We consider two-dimensional determinantal processes which are rotation-invariant and study the fluctuations of the number of points in disks. Based on the theory of mod-phi convergence, we obtain Berry-Esseen as well as precise moderate to large deviation estimates for these statistics. These results are consistent with the Coulomb gas heuristic from the physics literature. We also obtain functional limit theorems for the stochastic process $(\# D_r)_{r>0}$ when the radius $r$ of the disk $D_r$ is growing in different regimes. We present several applications to invariant determinantal process, including the polyanalytic Ginibre ensembles, Gaussian analytic function and other hyperbolic models. As a corollary, we compute the precise asymptotics for the entanglement entropy of (integer) Laughlin states for all Landau levels.
We prove precise deviations results in the sense of Cramér and Petrov for the upper tail of the distribution of the maximal value for a special class of determinantal point processes that play an important role in random matrix theory. Here we cover all three regimes of moderate, large and superlarge deviations for which we determine the leading order description of the tail probabilities. As a corollary of our results we identify the region within the regime of moderate deviations for which the limiting Tracy-Widom law still predicts the correct leading order behavior. Our proofs use that the…
We give a formula for the bivariate generating function of a stationary 1-dependent counting process in terms of its run probability generating function, with a probabilistic proof. The formula reduces to the well known bivariate generating function of the Eulerian distribution in the case of descents of a sequence of indepependent and identically distributed random variables. The formula is compared with alternative expressions from the theory of determinantal point processes and the combinatorics of sequences.
We establish a moderate deviation principle (MDP) for the number of eigenvalues of a Wigner matrix in an interval. The proof relies on fine asymptotics of the variance of the eigenvalue counting function of GUE matrices due to Gustavsson. The extension to large families of Wigner matrices is based on the Tao and Vu Four Moment Theorem and applies localization results by Erdös, Yau and Yin. Moreover we investigate families of covariance matrices as well.
In this paper, we consider the maximum of the $\text{Sine}_β$ counting process from its expectation. We show the leading order behavior is consistent with the predictions of log-correlated Gaussian fields, also consistent with work on the imaginary part of the log-characteristic polynomial of random matrices. We do this by a direct analysis of the stochastic sine equation, which gives a description of the continuum limit of the Prüfer phases of a Gaussian $β$-ensemble matrix.
Random spanning trees are among the most prominent determinantal point processes. We give four examples of random spanning trees on ladder-like graphs whose rungs form stationary renewal processes or regenerative processes of order two, respectively. Up to a trivial thinning with additional coin flips, for each of the first two examples the renewal processes exhaust the whole class of stationary regenerative (of order one) determinantal point processes. We also give an example of a regenerative process of order two that has no representation in terms of a random spanning tree. Our examples ill…
The purpose of the present paper is to establish moderate deviation principles for a rather general class of random variables fulfilling certain bounds of the cumulants. We apply a celebrated lemma of the theory of large deviations probabilities due to Rudzkis, Saulis and Statulevicius. The examples of random objects we treat include dependency graphs, subgraph-counting statistics in Erdős-Rényi random graphs and $U$-statistics. Moreover, we prove moderate deviation principles for certain statistics appearing in random matrix theory, namely characteristic polynomials of random unitary matrices…
We consider a branching random walk with immigration in a random environment, where the environment is a stationary and ergodic sequence indexed by time. We focus on the asymptotic properties of the sequence of measures $(Z_n)$ that count the number of particles of generation $n$ located in a Borel set of real line. In the present work, a series of limit theorems related to the above counting measures are established, including a central limit theorem, a moderate deviation principle and a large deviation result as well as a convergence theorem of the free energy.
We study a class of interacting particle systems on $\mathbb{R}$ which was recently investigated by F. Götze and the second author [GV14]. These ensembles generalize eigenvalue ensembles of Hermitian random matrices by allowing different interactions between particles. Although these ensembles are not known to be determinantal one can use the stochastic linearization method of [GV14] to represent them as averages of determinantal ones. Our results describe the transition between universal behavior in the regime of the Tracy-Widom law and non-universal behavior for large deviations of the right…
We consider a $\mathbb{R}^d$-valued branching random walk with a stationary and ergodic environment $ξ=(ξ_n)$ indexed by time $n\in\mathbb{N}$. Let $Z_n$ be the counting measure of particles of generation $n$. With the help of the uniform convergence of martingale and the multifractal analysis, we establish a large deviation result for the measures $Z_n$ as well as a moderate deviation principle.
We establish sharp global rigidity upper bounds for universal determinantal point processes describing edge eigenvalues of random matrices. For this, we first obtain a general result which can be applied to general (not necessarily determinantal) point processes which have a smallest (or largest) point: it allows to deduce global rigidity upper bounds from the exponential moments of the counting function of the process. By combining this with known exponential moment asymptotics for the Airy and Bessel point processes, we improve on the best known upper bounds for the global rigidity of the Ai…
The bead process introduced by Boutillier is a countable interlacing of the determinantal sine-kernel point processes. We construct the bead process for general sine beta processes as an infinite dimensional Markov chain whose transition mechanism is explicitly described. We show that this process is the microscopic scaling limit in the bulk of the Hermite beta corner process introduced by Gorin and Shkolnikov, generalizing the process of the minors of the Gaussian unitary and orthogonal ensembles. In order to prove our results, we use bounds on the variance of the point counting of the circul…
We consider a branching random walk on $\mathbb{R}$ with a stationary and ergodic environment $ξ=(ξ_n)$ indexed by time $n\in\mathbb{N}$. Let $Z_n$ be the counting measure of particles of generation $n$ and $\tilde Z_n(t)=\int e^{tx}Z_n(dx)$ be its Laplace transform. We show the $L^p$ convergence rate and the uniform convergence of the martingale $\tilde Z_n(t)/\mathbb E[\tilde Z_n(t)|ξ]$, and establish a moderate deviation principle for the measures $Z_n$.
We study two one-parameter families of point processes connected to random matrices: the Sine_beta and Sch_tau processes. The first one is the bulk point process limit for the Gaussian beta-ensemble. For beta=1, 2 and 4 it gives the limit of the GOE, GUE and GSE models of random matrix theory. In particular, for beta=2 it is a determinantal point process conjectured to have similar behavior to the critical zeros of the Riemann zeta-function. The second process can be obtained as the bulk scaling limit of the spectrum of certain discrete one-dimensional random Schrödinger operators. Both proces…
Given a Gromov-hyperbolic group $G$ endowed with a finite symmetric generating set, we study the statistics of counting measures on the spheres of the associated Cayley graph under linear representations of $G$. More generally, we obtain a weak law of large numbers for subadditive functions, echoing the classical Fekete lemma. For strongly irreducible and proximal representations, we prove a counting central limit theorem with a Berry--Esseen type error rate and exponential large deviation estimates. Moreover, in the same setting, we show convergence of interpolated normalized matrix norms alo…
In this paper we consider suitable families of power series distributed random variables, and we study their asymptotic behavior in the fashion of large (and moderate) deviations. We also present two examples of fractional counting processes, where the normalizations of the involved power series distributions can be expressed in terms of the Prabhakar function. The first example allows to consider the counting process in \cite{PoganyTomovski}, the second one is inspired by a model studied in \cite{GarraOrsingherPolito}.
We establish precise bounds on cumulants for a rather general class of non-linear geometric functionals satisfying the stabilization property under a simple, stationary (marked) point process admitting fast decay of its correlation functions and thereby conclude a Berry-Esseen bound, a concentration inequality, a moderate deviation principle and a Marcinkiewicz-Zygmund-type strong law of large numbers. The result is applied to the germ-grain model as well as to random sequential absorption for $α$-determinantal point processes having fast decaying kernels and certain Gibbsian point processes. …
Consider Ginibre's ensemble of $N \times N$ non-Hermitian random matrices in which all entries are independent complex Gaussians of mean zero and variance $\frac{1}{N}$. As $N \uparrow \infty$ the normalized counting measure of the eigenvalues converges to the uniform measure on the unit disk in the complex plane. In this note we describe fluctuations about this {\em Circular Law}. First we obtain finite $N$ formulas for the covariance of certain linear statistics of the eigenvalues. Asymptotics of these objects coupled with a theorem of Costin and Lebowitz then result in central limit theorem…
This paper studies a problem of Bayesian parameter estimation for a sequence of scaled counting processes whose weak limit is a Brownian motion with an unknown drift. The main result of the paper is that the limit of the posterior distribution processes is, in general, not equal to the posterior distribution process of the mentioned Brownian motion with the unknown drift. Instead, it is equal to the posterior distribution process associated with a Brownian motion with the same unknown drift and a different standard deviation coefficient. The difference between the two standard deviation coeffi…
We consider the number ${\cal N}_{θ_A}(θ)$ of eigenvalues $e^{i θ_j}$ of a random unitary matrix, drawn from CUE$_β(N)$, in the interval $θ_j \in [θ_A,θ]$. The deviations from its mean, ${\cal N}_{θ_A}(θ) - \mathbb{E}({\cal N}_{θ_A}(θ))$, form a random process as function of $θ$. We study the maximum of this process, by exploiting the mapping onto the statistical mechanics of log-correlated random landscapes. By using an extended Fisher-Hartwig conjecture for Toeplitz determinants, supplemented with the freezing duality conjecture for log-correlated fields, we obtain the cumulants of the distr…
We prove a Central Limit Theorem for the linear statistics of two-dimensional Coulomb gases, with arbitrary inverse temperature and general confining potential, at the macroscopic and mesoscopic scales and possibly near the boundary of the support of the equilibrium measure. This can be stated in terms of convergence of the random electrostatic potential to a Gaussian Free Field. Our result is the first to be valid at arbitrary temperature and at the mesoscopic scales, and we recover previous results of Ameur-Hendenmalm-Makarov and Rider-Virág concerning the determinantal case, with weaker ass…
We consider the $1d$ one-component plasma (OCP) in thermal equilibrium, consisting of $N$ equally charged particles on a line, with pairwise Coulomb repulsion and confined by an external harmonic potential. We study two observables: (i) the distribution of the gap between two consecutive particles in the bulk and (ii) the distribution of the number of particles $N_I$ in a fixed interval $I=[-L,+L]$ inside the bulk, the so-called full-counting-statistics (FCS). For both observables, we compute, for large $N$, the distribution of the typical as well as atypical large fluctuations. We show that t…
