We study evolution of perturbations in dark matter and dark energy for spherical collapse. We study Tachyon models of dark energy using the approach outlined in Rajvanshi and Bagla (2018). We work with models that are allowed by current observations. We find that as with Quintessence models allowed by observations, dark energy perturbations do not affect evolution of perturbations in dark matter in a significant manner. Perturbations in dark energy remain small for such models. In order to compare different classes of dark energy models, we use reconstruction of potentials and study dark matter and dark energy perturbations for same expansion history in the two models. We find that dark matter perturbations carry no imprint of the class of dark energy models for the same expansion history: this is significant in that we can work with any convenient model to study clustering of dark matter. We find that the evolution of dark energy perturbations carries an imprint of the class of models in that these grow differently in Tachyon models and Quintessence models. However, the difference between these diminishes for (1+w)<<1 and hence prospects for differentiating between models using characteristics of perturbations are limited in our Universe.
We present a nonparametric form-invariance transformation through which we establish a link between phantom and tachyonic models in flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies.
We use linear perturbation theory to study perturbations in dynamical dark energy models. We compare quintessence and tachyonic dark energy models with identical background evolution. We write the corresponding equations for different models in a form that makes it easier to see that the two models are very hard to distinguish in the linear regime, especially for models with $(1 + w) \ll 1$. We use Cosmic Microwave Background data and parametric representations for the two models to illustrate that they cannot be distinguished for the same background evolution with existing observations. Furth…
The string inspired tachyon field can serve as a candidate of dark energy. Its equation of state parameter $w$ varies from 0 to -1. In case of tachyon field potential $V(ϕ)\to 0$ slower(faster) than $1/ϕ^2$ at infinity, dark energy(dark matter) is a late time attractor. We investigate the tachyon dark energy models under the assumption that $w$ is close to -1. We find that all the models exhibit unique behavior around the present epoch which is exactly same as that of the thawing quintessence.
In this work we determine the correspondence between quintessence and tachyon dark energy models with a constant dark energy equation of state parameter, $w_e$. Although the evolution of both the Hubble parameter and the scalar field potential with redshift is the same, we show that the evolution of quintessence/tachyon scalar fields with redshift is, in general, very different. We explicity demonstrate that if $w_e \neq -1$ the potentials need to be very fine-tuned for the relative perturbation on the equation of state parameter, $Δw_e/(1+w_e) \ll 1$, to be very small around the present time.…

Dynamical models for dark energy are an alternative to the cosmological constant. It is important to investigate properties of perturbations in these models and go beyond the smooth FRLW cosmology. This allows us to distinguish different dark energy models with the same expansion history. For this, one often needs the potential for a particular expansion history. We study how such potentials can be reconstructed obtaining closed formulae for potential or reducing the problem to quadrature. We consider three classes of models here: tachyons, quintessence, and, interacting dark energy. We presen…
We study the spherical collapse model in the presence of quintessence with negligible speed of sound. This case is particularly motivated for w<-1 as it is required by stability. As pressure gradients are negligible, quintessence follows dark matter during the collapse. The spherical overdensity behaves as a separate closed FLRW universe, so that its evolution can be studied exactly. We derive the critical overdensity for collapse and we use the extended Press-Schechter theory to study how the clustering of quintessence affects the dark matter mass function. The effect is dominated by the modi…
We use the spherical collapse method to investigate the non-linear density perturbations of pressureless matter in the cosmological models with the extended quintessence as dark energy in the metric and Palatini formalisms. We find that for both formalisms, when the coupling constant is negative, the deviation from the $Λ$CDM model is the least according to the evolutionary curves of the linear density contrast $δ_{c}$ and virial overdensity $Δ_{v}$, and it is less than one percent. And this indicates that, in the extended quintessence cosmological models in which the coupling constant is nega…
We consider ideal fluid and equivalent scalar field dark energy universes where all four known types of finite-time, future singularities occur at some parameter values. It is demonstrated that pressure/energy density of such quintessence/phantom dark energy diverges in spherically-symmetric spacetime at finite radius or at the center. This may cause the instability of the relativistic star or black hole in such universe. The resolution of the problem via the extra modification of the equation of state is briefly discussed.
In this work we study the growth of cold dark matter density perturbations in the nonlinear regime on a conformally coupled quintessence model in which the background is designed to mimic a $Λ$CDM cosmology. The spherical collapse of overdense regions is analyzed. We highlight the role of the coupling on the overall dynamics, trace the evolution of the density contrast throughout the cosmic history and compute perturbative parameters such as the critical density contrast. We find that the coupling has the influence of delaying the collapse due to the slower growth of matter perturbations. We f…
In this work we investigate the spherical collapse model in flat FRW universe containing dark energy component. We consider the Holographic Dark Energy (HDE) model as a dynamical dark energy scenario with slowly time varying EoS parameter $w_Λ$ in order to calculate the effect of dark energy on the scenario of structure formation in the universe. We first calculate the evolution of density perturbation in linear regime for both phantom and quintessence behavior of HDE model and compare the results with standard CDM and $Λ$ CDM models. Then we calculate the evolution of two parameters character…
Observations have confirmed the accelerated expansion of the universe. The accelerated expansion can be modelled by invoking a cosmological constant or a dynamical model of dark energy. A key difference between these models is that the equation of state parameter $w$ for dark energy differs from $-1$ in dynamical dark energy (DDE) models. Further, the equation of state parameter is not constant for a general DDE model. Such differences can be probed using the variation of scale factor with time by measuring distances. Another significant difference between the cosmological constant and DDE mod…
We reported results of our study on non-linear spherical perturbations in quintessence models of dark energy. In the process of some follow up studies we discovered that a scaling factor in the code used for numerical calculations that should have been set to unity was set to a large value. Thus the scale of perturbations was much larger than intended, and for the larger scales the amplitude of dark matter perturbations was much higher than realistic. We provide corrected results here in this erratum. We find that there is no change in the perturbations for dark matter. The amplitude of pertur…
In this paper we show that a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson (PNGB) quintessence of spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) is responsible for an epoch of the late time cosmic acceleration. We suggest that an N=2 PNGB quintessence with SSB can give rise to the fast-roll cosmic acceleration in evolution of the Universe. In the N=2 PNGB quintessence model, the standard slow-roll condition in which the absolute value of the tachyonic mass squared $|m_q^2|$ of this model is much less than the square of the Hubble constant $H^2$, is broken down to the fast-roll condition, $|m_q^2|=O(H^2)$. However, it is …
The spherical collapse model is often used to follow the evolution of overdensities into the nonlinear regime. We describe the correct approach to be used in coupled dark energy cosmologies, where a fifth force, different from gravity and mediated by the dark energy scalar field, influences the collapse. We reformulate the spherical collapse description by deriving it directly from the set of nonlinear hydrodynamical Navier Stokes equations. By comparing with the corresponding relativistic equations, we show how the fifth force should be taken into account within the spherical collapse picture…
We give a full investigation on the dynamics of power-law kinetic quintessence $L(X, ϕ)=V(ϕ)(-X+X^2)$ by considering the potential related parameter $Γ$($=\frac{V V''}{V'^2}$) as a function of another potential parameter $λ$($=\frac{V'}{κV^{3/2}}$), which correspondingly extends the analysis of the dynamical system of our universe from two-dimension to three-dimension. Beside the critical points found in previous papers, we find a new de-Sitter-like dominant attractor(\textit{cp$6$}) and give its stable condition using the center manifold theorem. For the dark energy dominant solution(\textit{…
We study how the evolution of a Dark Energy Quintessence fluid is modified by the presence of a matter inhomogeneity. To do so, we study linear perturbations of a flat FLRW background containing dust and a slowly rolling scalar field. Under the assumptions of spherical symmetry and a static density contrast, \textit{i.e.} $\dotδ=0$, we obtain simple analytical solutions for perturbations in the matter and dark energy-dominated epochs. As a consequence, we show that perturbations of the scalar field, if a coupling \textit{à la} Bekenstein is assumed, trigger a spatial dependence of the fine-str…
The self-gravitating gas in the Newtonian limit is studied in the presence of dark energy with a linear and constant equation of state. Entropy extremization associates to the isothermal Boltzmann distribution an effective density that includes `dark energy particles', which either strengthen or weaken mutual gravitational attraction, in case of quintessence or phantom dark energy, respectively, that satisfy a linear equation of state. Stability is studied for microcanonical (fixed energy) and canonical (fixed temperature) ensembles. Compared to the previously studied cosmological constant cas…
Motivated by the work [K. Karami, J. Fehri, {\it Phys. Lett. B} {\bf 684}, 61 (2010)] and [A. Sheykhi, {\it Phys. Lett. B} {\bf 681}, 205 (2009)], we generalize their work to the new holographic dark energy model with $ρ_D=\frac{3ϕ^2}{4ω}(μH^2+ν\dot{H})$ in the framework of Brans-Dicke cosmology. Concretely, we study the correspondence between the quintessence, tachyon, K-essence, dilaton scalar field and Chaplygin gas model with the new holographic dark energy model in the non-flat Brans-Dicke universe. Furthermore, we reconstruct the potentials and dynamics for these models. By analysis we c…
In this paper, we analyze the dynamical evolution of quintessence dark energy induced by the collapse of dark matter halos. Different from other previous studies, we develop a numerical strategy which allows us to calculate the dark energy evolution for the entire history of the spherical collapse of dark matter halos, without the need of separate treatments for linear, quasi-linear and nonlinear stages of the halo formation. It is found that the dark energy perturbations evolve with redshifts, and their specific behaviors depend on the quintessence potential as well as the collapsing process.…
A sufficiently light scalar field slowly evolving in a potential can account for the dark energy that presently dominates the universe. This quintessence field is expected to couple directly to matter components, unless some symmetry of a more fundamental theory protects or suppresses it. Such a coupling would leave distinctive signatures in the background expansion history of the universe and on cosmic structure formation, particularly at galaxy cluster scales. Using semi--analytic expressions for the CDM halo mass function, we make predictions for halo abundance in models where the quintesse…
We use the spherical collapse model of structure formation to investigate the separation in the collapse of uncoupled matter (essentially baryons) and coupled dark matter in an interacting dark energy scenario. Following the usual assumption of a single radius of collapse for all species, we show that we only need to evolve the uncoupled matter sector to obtain the evolution for all matter components. This gives us more information on the collapse with a simplified set of evolution equations compared with the usual approaches. We then apply these results to four quintessence potentials and sho…
One of the non-canonical descriptions of scalar field dark energy is the tachyon. The present work is devoted to study the dynamics of dark matter overdensity in a conformally coupled tachyon field dark energy model. The model is tuned to mimic the $Λ$CDM cosmology at background level. The semi-analytic spherical collapse model of dark matter overdensity is adopted to study the nonlinear evolution. The effects of non-minimal coupling in the energy budget on the clustering of dark matter is investigated. It is observed that the growth rate of matter overdensity is higher in presence of the non-…
We study the entropy-corrected version of the holographic dark energy (HDE) model in the framework of modified FRW cosmology. We consider a non-flat universe filled with an interacting viscous entropy-corrected HDE (ECHDE) with dark matter. We also include the case of variable gravitational constant G in our model. We obtain the equation of state and the deceleration parameters of the interacting viscous ECHDE. Moreover, we reconstruct the potential and the dynamics of the quintessence, tachyon, K-essence and dilaton scalar field models according to the evolutionary behavior of the interacting…
We review different dark energy cosmologies. In particular, we present the $Λ$CDM cosmology, Little Rip and Pseudo-Rip universes, the phantom and quintessence cosmologies with Type I, II, III and IV finite-time future singularities and non-singular dark energy universes. In the first part, we explain the $Λ$CDM model and well-established observational tests which constrain the current cosmic acceleration. After that, we investigate the dark fluid universe where a fluid has quite general equation of state (EoS) [including inhomogeneous or imperfect EoS]. All the above dark energy cosmologies fo…
We consider different classes of scalar field models including quintessence, and tachyon scalar fields with a variety of generic potential belonging to thawing type. Assuming the scalar field is initially frozen at $w=-1$, we evolve the system until the present time. We focus on observational quantities like Hubble parameter, luminosity distance as well as quantities related to the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation measurement. Our study shows that with present state of observations, one can not distinguish amongst various models which in turn can not be distinguished from cosmological constant. Thi…
Dark energy models and modified gravity theories have been actively studied and the behaviors in the solar system have been also carefully investigated in a part of the models. However, the isotropic solutions of the field equations in the simple models of dark energy, e.g. quintessence model without matter coupling, have not been well investigated. One of the reason would be the nonlinearity of the field equations. In this paper, a method to evaluate the solution of the field equations is constructed, and it is shown that there is a model that can easily pass the solar system tests, whereas, …
A global monopole (or other topological defect) formed during a recent phase transition with core size comparable to the present Hubble scale, could induce the observed accelerating expansion of the universe. In such a model, topological considerations trap the scalar field close to a local maximum of its potential in a cosmologically large region of space. We perform detailed numerical simulations of such an inhomogeneous dark energy system (topological quintessence) minimally coupled to gravity, in a flat background of initially homogeneous matter. We find that when the energy density of the…

In this paper we study the evolution of a spherical matter overdensity in the context of the recently introduced Galileon field theory. Our analysis considers the complete covariant Lagrangian in four dimensions. This theory is composed by a potential and a standard kinetic term, a cubic kinetic term and two additional terms that include the coupling between the Galileon and the metric, to preserve the original properties of Galileons also in curved space-times. Here we extend previous studies, which considered both the quintessence and the cubic terms, by focussing on the role of the last two…
We consider a model of dark energy/matter unification based on a k-essence type of theory similar to tachyon condensate models. Using an extension of the general relativistic spherical model which incorporates the effects of both pressure and the acoustic horizon we show that an initially perturbative k-essence fluid evolves into a mixed system containing cold dark matter like gravitational condensate in significant quantities.
In the framework of the spherical collapse model we study the influence of shear and rotation terms for dark matter fluid in clustering dark energy models. We evaluate, for different equations of state, the effects of these terms on the linear overdensity threshold parameter, $δ_{\rm c}$, and on the virial overdensity, $Δ_{\rm V}$. The evaluation of their effects on $δ_{\rm c}$ allows us to infer the modifications occurring on the mass function. Due to ambiguities in the definition of the halo mass in the case of clustering dark energy, we consider two different situations: the first is the cl…
Many theoretical attempts toward reconstructing the potential and dynamics of the scalar fields have been done in the literature by establishing a connection between holographic/agegraphic energy density and a scalar field model of dark energy. However, in most of these cases the analytical form of the potentials in terms of the scalar field have not been reconstructed due to the complexity of the equations involved. In this paper, by taking Hubble radius as system's IR cutoff, we are able to reconstruct the analytical form of the potentials as a function of scalar field, namely $V=V(ϕ)$ as we…
