We investigate an infinite, linear system of ordinary differential equations that models the evolution of fragmenting clusters. We assume that each cluster is composed of identical units (monomers) and we allow mass to be lost, gained or conserved during each fragmentation event. By formulating the initial-value problem for the system as an abstract Cauchy problem (ACP), posed in an appropriate weighted $\ell^1$ space, and then applying perturbation results from the theory of operator semigroups, we prove the existence and uniqueness of physically relevant, classical solutions for a wide class of initial cluster distributions. Additionally, we establish that it is always possible to identify a weighted $\ell^1$ space on which the fragmentation semigroup is analytic, which immediately implies that the corresponding ACP is well posed for any initial distribution belonging to this particular space. We also investigate the asymptotic behaviour of solutions, and show that, under appropriate restrictions on the fragmentation coefficients, solutions display the expected long-term behaviour of converging to a purely monomeric steady state. Moreover, when the fragmentation semigroup is analytic, solutions are shown to decay to this steady state at an explicitly defined exponential rate.
Let $ω$ be a weight on a right cancellative semigroup $S$. Let $\|\cdot\|_ω$ be the weighted norm on the weighted discrete semigroup algebra $\ell^1(S, ω)$. In this paper, we prove that the weight $ω$ satisfies F-property if and only if the operator norm $\| \cdot \|_{ωop}$ of $\| \cdot \|_ω$ is exactly equal to another weighted norm $\| \cdot \|_{\widetildeω_1}$ [Theorem 2.5 ($iii$)]. Though its proof is elementary, the result is unexpectedly surprising. In particular, $\| \cdot \|_{1 op}$ is same as $\| \cdot \|_1$ on $\ell^1(S)$. Moreover, various examples are discussed to understand the re…
We prove that the set of all integrable functions whose sequences of negative (resp. nonnegative) Fourier coefficients belong to $\ell^1\cap\ell^Φ_{ϕ,w}$ (resp. to $\ell^1\cap\ell^Ψ_{ψ,\varrho}$), where $\ell^Φ_{ϕ,w}$ and $\ell^Ψ_{ψ,\varrho}$ are two-weighted Orlicz sequence spaces, forms an algebra under pointwise multiplication whenever the weight sequences \[ ϕ=\{ϕ_n\},\quad ψ=\{ψ_n\},\quad w=\{w_n\},\quad \varrho=\{\varrho_n\} \] increase and satisfy the $Δ_2$-condition.
A weighted mean matrix whose weight sequence is linear with positive coefficients is shown to be a posinormal operator on $\ell^2$. This operator is also shown to be coposinormal, so it and its adjoint have the same null space and the same range. The posinormality result leads to a proof that the weighted mean matrix associated with the sequence of odd positive integers is hyponormal, as well as a conjecture regarding a more general linear case.
Unlike for $\ell_p$, $1<p\leq\infty$, the discrete Cesàro operator $C$ does not map $\ell_1$ into itself. We identify precisely those weights $w$ such that $C$ does map $\ell_1(w)$ continuously into itself. For these weights a complete description of the eigenvalues and the spectrum of $C$ are presented. It is also possible to identify all $w$ such that $C$ is a compact operator in $\ell_1(w)$. The final section investigates the mean ergodic properties of $C$ in $\ell_1(w)$. Many examples are presented in order to supplement the results and to illustrate the phenomena that occur.
We prove the subnormality of an operator-weighted composition operator whose symbol is a transformation of a discrete measure space and weights are multiplication operators in $L^2$-spaces under the assumption of existence of a family of probability measures whose Radon-Nikodym derivatives behave regular along the trajectories of the symbol. We build the quasinormal extension which is a weighted composition operator induced by the same symbol. We give auxiliary results concerning commutativity of operator-weighted composition operators with multiplication operators.
For 2-variable weighted shifts W_{(α,β)}(T_1, T_2) we study the invariance of (joint) k- hyponormality under the action (h,\ell) -> W_{(α,β)}^{(h,\ell)}(T_1, T_2):=(T_1^k,T_2^{\ell}) (h,\ell >=1). We show that for every k >= 1 there exists W_{(α,β)}(T_1, T_2) such that W_{(α,β)}^{(h,\ell)}(T_1, T_2) is k-hyponormal (all h>=2,\ell>=1) but W_{(α,β)}(T_1, T_2) is not k-hyponormal. On the positive side, for a class of 2-variable weighted shifts with tensor core we find a computable necessary condition for invariance. Next, we exhibit a large nontrivial class for which hyponormality is indeed invar…
We study the removability of a singular set for elliptic equations involving weight functions and variable exponents. We consider the case where the singular set satisfies conditions related to some generalization of upper Minkowski content or a net measure, and give sufficient conditions for removability of this singularity for equations in the weighted variable exponent Sobolev spaces.
Given a unilateral shift $B_w$ (determined by a bounded sequence $w$), a sequence $x \in \ell^2$ is "hypercyclic" for $w$ iff the forward iterates of $x$ under $B_w$ are dense in $\ell^2$. We show that it is possible to make the set of $x \in \ell^2$ which are simultaneously hypercyclic for all $w$ in a fixed $W \subseteq \ell^\infty$ arbitrarily complicated by choosing $W$ appropriately.
We study the cyclicity in weighted $\ell^p(\mathbb{Z})$ spaces. For $p \geq 1$ and $β\geq 0$, let $\ell^p\_β(\mathbb{Z})$ be the space of sequences $u=(u\_n)\_{n\in \mathbb{Z}}$ such that $(u\_n |n|^β)\in \ell^p(\mathbb{Z}) $. We obtain both necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for $u$ to be cyclic in $\ell^p\_β(\mathbb{Z})$, in other words, for $ \{(u\_{n+k})\_{n \in \mathbb{Z}},~ k \in \mathbb{Z} \}$ to span a dense subspace of $\ell^p\_β(\mathbb{Z})$. The conditions are given in terms of the Hausdorff dimension and the capacity of the zero set of the Fourier transform of $u$.
In this study, we consider weighted stochastic field exponent function spaces $L_{\vartheta }^{p(.,.)}\left( D\times Ω\right) $ and $W_{\vartheta }^{k,p(.,.)}\left( D\times Ω\right) $. Also, we investigate some basic properties and embeddings of these spaces. Finally, we present an application of these spaces to the stochastic partial differential equations with stochastic field growth.
In this paper we study elliptic and parabolic boundary value problems with inhomogeneous boundary conditions in weighted function spaces of Sobolev, Bessel potential, Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin type. As one of the main results, we solve the problem of weighted $L_{q}$-maximal regularity in weighted Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces for the parabolic case, where the spatial weight is a power weight in the Muckenhoupt $A_{\infty}$-class. In Besov space case we have the restriction that the microscopic parameter equals to $q$. Going beyond the $A_{p}$-range, where $p$ is the integrability paramet…
Let $n\ge2$ and $Ω$ be a bounded Lipschitz domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$. In this article, the authors investigate global (weighted) estimates for the gradient of solutions to Robin boundary value problems of second order elliptic equations of divergence form with real-valued, bounded, measurable coefficients in $Ω$. More precisely, let $p\in(n/(n-1),\infty)$. Using a real-variable argument, the authors obtain two necessary and sufficient conditions for $W^{1,p}$ estimates of solutions to Robin boundary value problems, respectively, in terms of a weak reverse Hölder inequality with exponent $p$ or …
We show that every non-compact weighted composition operator $f \mapsto u\cdot (f\circϕ)$ acting on a Hardy space $H^p$ for $1 \leq p < \infty$ fixes an isomorphic copy of the sequence space $\ell^p$ and therefore fails to be strictly singular. We also characterize those weighted composition operators on $H^p$ which fix a copy of the Hilbert space $\ell^2$. These results extend earlier ones obtained for unweighted composition operators.
In previous works, an approach to the study of cyclic functions in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces has been presented, based on the study of so called \emph{optimal polynomial approximants}. In the present article, we extend such approach to the (non-Hilbert) case of spaces of analytic functions whose Taylor coefficients are in $\ell^p(ω)$, for some weight $ω$. When $ω=\{(k+1)^α\}_{k\in \mathbb{N}}$, for a fixed $α\in \mathbb{R}$, we derive a characterization of the cyclicity of polynomial functions and, when $1<p<\infty$, we obtain sharp rates of convergence of the optimal norms.
