We analyze nucleon decay modes in a no-scale supersymmetric flipped SU(5) GUT model, and contrast them with the predictions for proton decays via dimension-6 operators in a standard unflipped supersymmetric SU(5) GUT model. We find that these GUT models make very different predictions for the ratios $Γ(p \to π^0 μ^+)/Γ(p \to π^0 e^+)$, $Γ(p \to π^+ \barν)/Γ(p \to π^0 e^+)$, $Γ(p \to K^0 e^+)/Γ(p \to π^0 e^+)$ and $Γ(p \to K^0 μ^+)/Γ(p \to π^0 μ^+)$, and that predictions for the ratios $Γ(p \to π^0 μ^+)/Γ(p \to π^0 e^+)$ and $Γ(p \to π^+ \barν)/Γ(p \to π^0 e^+)$ also differ in variants of the flipped SU(5) model with normal- or inverse-ordered light neutrino masses. Upcoming large neutrino experiments may have interesting opportunities to explore both GUT and flavour physics in proton and neutron decays.
We revisit supersymmetric hybrid inflation in the context of flipped $SU(5)$ model. With minimal superpotential and minimal Kähler potential, and soft SUSY masses of order $(1 - 100)$ TeV, compatibility with the Planck data yields a symmetry breaking scale $M$ of flipped $SU(5)$ close to $(2 - 4) \times 10^{15}$ GeV. This disagrees with the lower limit $M \gtrsim 7 \times 10^{15}$ GeV set from proton decay searches by the Super-Kamiokande collaboration. We show how $M$ close to the unification scale $2\times 10^{16}$ GeV can be reconciled with SUSY hybrid inflation by employing a non-minimal K…
We study colored Higgsino-mediated proton decay (dimension-five proton decay) in a model based on the flipped $SU(5)$ GUT. In the model, the GUT-breaking ${\bf10}$, ${\bf \overline{10}}$ fields have a GUT-scale mass term and gain VEVs through higher-dimensional operators, which induces an effective mass term between the color triplets in the ${\bf 5}$, ${\bf \bar{5}}$ Higgs fields that is not much smaller than the GUT scale. This model structure gives rise to observable dimension-five proton decay, and at the same time achieves moderate suppression on dimension-five proton decay that softens t…
We explore proton decay in a class of realistic supersymmetric flipped $SU(5)$ models supplemented by a $U(1)_R$ symmetry which plays an essential role in implementing hybrid inflation. Two distinct neutrino mass models, based on inverse seesaw and type I seesaw, are identified, with the latter arising from the breaking of $U(1)_R$ by nonrenormalizable superpotential terms. Depending on the neutrino mass model an appropriate set of intermediate scale color triplets from the Higgs superfields play a key role in proton decay channels that include $p \rightarrow (e^{+},μ^+)\, π^0$, $p \rightarrow…
We consider proton decay and $g_μ- 2$ in flipped SU(5) GUT models. We first study scenarios in which the soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters are constrained to be universal at some high scale $M_{in}$ above the standard GUT scale where the QCD and electroweak SU(2) couplings unify. In this case the proton lifetime is typically $\gtrsim 10^{36}$~yrs, too long to be detected in the foreseeable future, and the supersymmetric contribution to $g_μ- 2$ is too small to contribute significantly to resolving the discrepancy between the experimental measurement and data-driven calculations within the…
We construct a supersymmetric flipped SU(5) grand unified model that possesses an $R$ symmetry. This $R$ symmetry forbids dangerous non-renormalizable operators suppressed by a cut-off scale up to sufficiently large mass dimensions so that the SU(5)-breaking Higgs field develops a vacuum expectation value of the order of the unification scale along the $F$- and $D$-flat directions, with the help of the supersymmetry-breaking effect. The mass terms of the Higgs fields are also forbidden by the $R$ symmetry, with which the doublet-triplet splitting problem is solved with the missing partner mech…
In the simplest potentially realistic renormalizable variants of the flipped $SU(5)$ unified model the right-handed neutrino masses are conveniently generated by means of the Witten's two-loop mechanism. As a consequence, the compactness of the underlying scalar sector provides strong correlations between the low-energy flavor observables such as neutrino masses and mixing and the flavor structure of the fermionic currents governing the baryon and lepton number violating nucleon decays. In this study, the associated two-loop Feynman integrals are fully evaluated and, subsequently, are used to …
We study the feasibility of realizing supersymmetric new inflation model, introduced by Senoguz and Shafi in [1], for $SU(5)$ and flipped $SU(5)$ models of grand unified theories (GUTs). This realization requires an additional $U(1)_R \times Z_{n}$ symmetry for its successful implementation. The standard model (SM) gauge singlet scalar components of $24_H$ and $10_H$ GUT Higgs superfields are respectively employed to realize successful inflation in $SU(5)$ and flipped $SU(5)$ models. The predictions of the various inflationary observables lie within the recent Planck bounds on the scalar spect…
Proton decay is a smoking gun signature of Grand Unified Theories (GUTs). Searches by Super-Kamiokande have resulted in stringent limits on the GUT symmetry breaking scale. The large-scale multipurpose neutrino experiments DUNE, Hyper-Kamiokande and JUNO will either discover proton decay or further push the symmetry breaking scale above $10^{16}$ GeV. Another possible observational consequence of GUTs is the formation of a cosmic string network produced during the breaking of the GUT to the Standard Model gauge group. The evolution of such a string network in the expanding Universe produces a …
We extend our previous study of supersymmetric Higgs inflation in the context of no-scale supergravity and grand unification, to include models based on the flipped SU(5) and the Pati-Salam group. Like the previous SU(5) GUT model, these yield a class of inflation models whose inflation predictions interpolate between those of the quadratic chaotic inflation and Starobinsky-like inflation, while avoiding tension with proton decay limits. We further analyse the reheating process in these models, and derive the number of e-folds, which is independent of the reheating temperature. We derive the c…
