A numerical semigroup $S$ is a cofinite, additively-closed subset of the nonnegative integers that contains $0$. In this paper, we initiate the study of atomic density, an asymptotic measure of the proportion of irreducible elements in a given ring or semigroup, for semigroup algebras. It is known that the atomic density of the polynomial ring $\mathbb{F}_q[x]$ is zero for any finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$; we prove that the numerical semigroup algebra $\mathbb{F}_q[S]$ also has atomic density zero for any numerical semigroup~$S$. We also examine the particular algebra $\mathbb{F}_2[x^2,x^3]$ in more detail, providing a bound on the rate of convergence of the atomic density as well as a counting formula for irreducible polynomials using Möbius inversion, comparable to the formula for irreducible polynomials over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$.
A numerical semigroup is irreducible if it cannot be obtained as intersection of two numerical semigroups containing it properly. If we only consider numerical semigroups with the same Frobenius number, that concept is generalized to atomic numerical semigroup. Based on a previous one developed to obtain all irreducible numerical semigroups with a fixed Frobenius number, we present an algorithm to compute all atomic numerical semigroups with a fixed Frobenius number.
We study two classes of inverse semigroups built from directed graphs, namely graph inverse semigroups and a new class of semigroups that we refer to as Leavitt inverse semigroups. These semigroups are closely related to graph $C^*$-algebras and Leavitt path algebras. We provide a topological characterization of the universal groups of the local submonoids of these inverse semigroups. We study the relationship between the graph inverse semigroups of two graphs when there is a directed immersion between the graphs. We describe the structure of graphs that admit a directed cover or directed imme…
We determine the possible functions that can occur, up to asymptotic equivalence, as growth functions of semigroups, hereditary languages, and algebras.
We establish representation types (finite, tame or wild) of finite dimensional Munn algebras with semisimple bases. As an application, we establish representation types of finite 0-simple semigroups and their mutually annihilating unions.
We study the semigroup $\boldsymbol{B}_ω^{\mathscr{F}}$, which is introduced in [O. Gutik and M. Mykhalenych, \emph{On some generalization of the bicyclic monoid}, Visnyk Lviv. Univ. Ser. Mech.-Mat. \textbf{90} (2020), 5--19], in the case when the family $\mathscr{F}$ of subsets of cardinality $\leqslant 1$ in $ω$. We show that $\boldsymbol{B}_ω^{\mathscr{F}}$ is isomorphic to the subsemigroup $\mathscr{B}_ω^{\Rsh}(\boldsymbol{F}_{\min})$ of the Brandt $ω$-extension of the semilattice $\boldsymbol{F}_{\min}$ and describe all shift-continuous feebly compact $T_1$-topologies on the semigroup $\m…
$E$-Ehresmann semigroups are a commonly studied generalization of inverse semigroups. They are closely related to Ehresmann categories in the same way that inverse semigroups are related to inductive groupoids. We prove that under some finiteness condition, the semigroup algebra of an $E$-Ehresmann semigroup is isomorphic to the category algebra of the corresponding Ehresmann category. This generalizes a result of Steinberg who proved this isomorphism for inverse semigroups and inductive groupoids and a result of Guo and Chen who proved it for ample semigroups. We also characterize $E$-Ehresma…
We study groupoids and semigroup C*-algebras arising from graphs of monoids, in the setting of right LCM monoids. First, we establish a general criterion when a graph of monoids gives rise to a submonoid of the fundamental group which is right LCM. Moreover, we carry out a detailed analysis of structural properties of semigroup C*-algebras arising from graphs of monoids, including closed invariant subspaces and topological freeness of the groupoids as well as ideal structure, nuclearity and K-theory of the semigroup C*-algebras. As an application, we construct families of pairwise non-conjugat…
The representation theory of finite groups began with Frobenius's factorization of Dedekind's group determinant. In this paper, we consider the case of the semigroup determinant. The semigroup determinant is nonzero if and only if the complex semigroup algebra is Frobenius, and so our results include applications to the study of Frobenius semigroup algebras. We explicitly factor the semigroup determinant for commutative semigroups and inverse semigroups. We recover the Wilf-Lindström factorization of the semigroup determinant of a meet semilattice and Wood's factorization for a finite commutat…
