We give examples of pseudoconvex domains of finite type in $\mathbb{C}^2$ where the Kohn algorithm for subelliptic estimates fails to yield an effective lower bound for the order of subellipticity in terms of the type. We show how to modify the algorithm to obtain an effective procedure to prove subellipticity on domains of finite type in $\mathbb{C}^2$ with real analytic boundary satisfying a condition slightly stronger than pseudoconvexity. We close with a generalization to higher dimensions.
We prove local hypoellipticity of the complex Laplacian $\Box$ and of the Kohn Laplacian $\Box_b$ in a pseudoconvex boundary when, for a system of cut-off $η$, the gradient $\partial_bη$ and the Levi form $\partial_b\bar\partial_bη^2$ are subelliptic multipliers in the sense of Kohn.
We provide a solution to the effectiveness problem in Kohn's algorithm for generating holomorphic subelliptic multipliers for $(0,q)$ forms for arbitrary $q$. As an application, we obtain subelliptic estimates for $(0,q)$ forms with effectively controlled order $ε>0$ (the Sobolev exponent) for domains given by sums of squares of holomorphic functions (J.J. Kohn called them "special domains"). These domains are of particular interest due to their relation with complex and algebraic geometry. Our methods include triangular resolutions introduced by the authors in their previous work.
A solution to the effectiveness problem in Kohn's algorithm for generating subelliptic multipliers is provided for domains that include those given by sums of squares of holomorphic functions (also including infinite sums). These domains are of particular interest due to their relation with complex and algebraic geometry and in particular, seem to include all previously known cases. Furthermore, combined with a recent result of M. Fassina, our effectiveness method allows establishing effective subelliptic estimates for more general classes of domains. Our main new tool, a triangular resolution…
This note discusses the problem of the effective termination of Kohn's algorithm for subelliptic multipliers for bounded smooth weakly pseudoconvex domains of finite type. We give a complete proof for the case of special domains of finite type and indicate briefly how this method is to be extended to the case of general bounded smooth weakly pseudoconvex domains of finite type.
In this short note we show that $\mathbb C^n\setminus\bar{\mathbb B^n}$ is not subelliptic for $n \geq 3$. This is done by proving a Hartogs type extension theorem for holomorphic vector bundles bundles.
We give a sufficient condition for subelliptic estimates for the d-bar-Neumann operator on smoothly bounded, pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$. This condition is a quantified version of McNeal's condition ($\tilde{P}$) for compactness of the d-bar-Neumann operator, and it extends Catlin's condition for subellipticity as it is less stringent.
For a domain $D$ of $\mathbb{C}^n$ which is weakly $q$-pseudoconvex or $q$-pseudoconcave we give a sufficient condition for subelliptic estimates for the $\bar{\partial}$-Neumann problem. The paper extends to domains which are not necessarily pseudoconvex, the results and the techniques of Catlin. MSC: 32D10, 32U05, 32V25
Little is known about the behaviour of the Oka property of a complex manifold with respect to blowing up a submanifold. A manifold is of Class $\mathscr A$ if it is the complement of an algebraic subvariety of codimension at least $2$ in an algebraic manifold that is Zariski-locally isomorphic to $\mathbb C^n$. A manifold of Class $\mathscr A$ is algebraically subelliptic and hence Oka, and a manifold of Class $\mathscr A$ blown up at finitely many points is of Class $\mathscr A$. Our main result is that a manifold of Class $\mathscr A$ blown up along an arbitrary algebraic submanifold (not ne…
We propose a new class of geometric invariants called jet vanishing orders, and use them to establish a new selection algorithm in the Kohn's construction of subelliptic multipliers for special domains in dimension $3$, inspired by the work of Y.-T. Siu [S10]. In particular, we obtain effective termination of our selection algorithm with explicit bounds both for the steps of the algorithm and the order of subellipticity in the corresponding subelliptic estimates. Our procedure possesses additional features of certain stability under high order perturbations, due to deferring the step of taking…
We show that compactness of the $\overline{\partial}$-Neumann operator is independent of the metric, and we give a new proof of this independence for subellipticity. We define an abstract obstruction to compactness, namely the common zero set of all the compactness multipliers, and we identify this subset of the boundary for convex domains in $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ and for complete Hartogs domains in $\mathbb{C}^{2}$.
Let $\mathfrak a$ be an ideal of holomorphic functions vanishing only at the origin in $\mathbb{C}^n$. The \textit{type} of $\mathfrak a$ is an invariant that measures the order of vanishing of the functions in $\mathfrak a$ along holomorphic curves; this invariant is of importance in the study of subelliptic estimates and subelliptic multiplier ideal sheaves. Recently there has been some interest in the question of which curves actually compute the type. In this note we prove that it is computed by one of the analytic irreducible components of the intersection of $n-1$ general functions in $\…
For $1<p<\infty$ and $0<s<1$, let $\mathcal{Q}^p_ s (\mathbb{T})$ be the space of those functions $f$ which belong to $ L^p(\mathbb{T})$ and satisfy \[ \sup_{I\subset \mathbb{T}}\frac{1}{|I|^s}\int_I\int_I\frac{|f(ζ)-f(η)|^p}{|ζ-η|^{2-s}}|dζ||dη|<\infty, \] where $|I|$ is the length of an arc $I$ of the unit circle $\mathbb{T}$ . In this paper, we give a complete description of multipliers between $\mathcal{Q}^p_ s (\mathbb{T})$ spaces. The spectra of multiplication operators on $\mathcal{Q}^p_ s (\mathbb{T})$ are also obtained.
Let $M^{(k)}$, $k=1,2,\ldots, n$, be the boundary of an unbounded polynomial domain $Ω^{(k)}$ of finite type in $\mathbb C ^2$, and let $\Box_b^{(k)}$ be the Kohn Laplacian on $M^{(k)}$. In this paper, we study multivariable spectral multipliers $m(\Box_b^{(1)},\ldots, \Box_b^{(n)})$ acting on the Shilov boundary $\widetilde{M}=M^{(1)} \times\cdots\times M^{(n)}$ of the product domain $Ω^{(1)}\times\cdots\times Ω^{(n)}$. We show that if a function $F(λ_1, \ldots ,λ_n)$ satisfies a Marcinkiewicz-type differential condition, then the spectral multiplier operator $m(\Box_b^{(1)}, \ldots, \Box_b^{…
In the smooth case, we prove quasi-flasqueness for the sheaves of all subelliptic multipliers as well as at each of the steps of the Kohn algorithm on a pseudoconvex domain in $\C^n.$ We use techniques by Jean-Claude Tougeron to show that if the domain has a real-analytic defining function, the modified Kohn algorithm involving generating ideals and taking real radicals only in the ring of real-analytic germs yields quasi-coherent sheaves. This sharpens a result obtained by J. J. Kohn in 1979.
If $\mathcal{H}$ denotes a Hilbert space of analytic functions on a region $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{C}^d$, then the weak product is defined by $$\mathcal{H}\odot\mathcal{H}=\left\{h=\sum_{n=1}^\infty f_n g_n : \sum_{n=1}^\infty \|f_n\|_{\mathcal{H}}\|g_n\|_{\mathcal{H}} <\infty\right\}.$$ We prove that if $\mathcal{H}$ is a first order holomorphic Besov Hilbert space on the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^d$, then the multiplier algebras of $\mathcal{H}$ and of $\mathcal{H}\odot\mathcal{H}$ coincide.
In this article, we follow the arguments in a paper of Y-T. Siu to study the effective termination of Kohn's algorithm for special domains in $\mathbb{C}^{3}$. We make explicit the effective constants and generic conditions that appear there, and we obtain an explicit expression for the regularity of the Dolbeault laplacian for the $\overline{\partial}$-Neumann problem. Specifically, on a local peudoconvex domain of the special shape \[ Ω:= \bigg\{(z_{1},z_{2},z_{3})\in\mathbb{C}^{3}:\ 2\text{Re}\ z_{3}+ \sum_{i=1}^{N}|F_{i}(z_{1},z_{2})|^{2}<0 \bigg\} \] with holomorphic function germs $F_{1}…
We define the notion of $Φ$-Carleson measures where $Φ$ is either a concave growth function or a convex growth function and provide an equivalent definition. We then characterize $Φ$-Carleson measures for Bergman-Orlicz spaces, and apply them to characterize multipliers between Bergman-Orlicz spaces.
Let $\mathbb B_n$ be the open unit ball in $\mathbb C^n$. We characterize the spectra of pointwise multipliers $M_u$ acting on Banach spaces of analytic functions on $\mathbb B_n$ satisfying some general conditions. These spaces include Bergman-Sobolev spaces $A^p_{α,β}$, Bloch-type spaces $\mathcal B_α$, weighted Hardy spaces $H^p_w$ with Muckenhoupt weights and Hardy-Sobolev Hilbert spaces $H^2_β$. Moreover, we describe the essential spectra of multipliers in most of the aforementioned spaces, in particular, in those spaces for which the set of multipliers is a subset of the ball algebra.
Let ${\rm {\mathbb G}}$ be a domain with closed rectifiable Jordan curve $\ell $ . Let $K({\rm {\mathbb G}})$ be the space of all analytic functions in ${\rm {\mathbb G}} $ representable by a Cauchy - Stieltjes integral. Let ${\rm {\mathfrak M}}(K)$ be the class of all multipliers of the space $K({\rm {\mathbb G}}).$ In this paper we prove that if $f$ is bounded analytic function on ${\rm {\mathbb G}}$ and $${\kern 1pt} {\kern 1pt} {\kern 1pt} \mathop{ess\sup}\limits_{η\in \ell } \int_{\ell} \frac{|f(ζ)-f(η)|}{|ζ-η|} |dζ|{\kern 1pt} {\kern 1pt} {\kern 1pt} {\kern 1pt} {\kern 1pt} {\kern 1pt} {…
We describe the idempotent Fourier multipliers that act contractively on $H^p$ spaces of the $d$-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^d$ for $d\geq 1$ and $1\leq p \leq \infty$. When $p$ is not an even integer, such multipliers are just restrictions of contractive idempotent multipliers on $L^p$ spaces, which in turn can be described by suitably combining results of Rudin and Andô. When $p=2(n+1)$, with $n$ a positive integer, contractivity depends in an interesting geometric way on $n$, $d$, and the dimension of the set of frequencies associated with the multiplier. Our results allow us to construct…
