The elementary excitations of skyrmion crystals experience both emergent magnetic fields and anharmonic interactions brought about by the topologically nontrivial noncollinear texture. The resulting flat bands cause strong spontaneous quasiparticle decay, dressing the eigenmodes of skyrmion crystals with a finite zero-temperature quantum lifetime. Sweeping the flat bands through the spectrum by changing the magnetic field leads to an externally controllable energy-selective magnon breakdown. In particular, we uncover that the three fundamental modes, i.e., the anticlockwise, breathing, and clockwise mode, exhibit distinct decay behavior, with the clockwise (anticlockwise) mode being the least (most) stable mode out of the three.
We investigate quasiparticles in bilayer quantum Hall systems around total filling factor nu =1 by current-pumped and resistively detected NMR. The measured Knight shift reveals that the spin component in the quasiparticle increases continuously with $Δ_{SAS}$. Combined with results for the pseudospin component obtained by activation gap measurements, this demonstrates that both spin and pseudospin are contained in a quasiparticle at intermediate $Δ_{SAS}$, providing evidence for the existence of the spin-pseudospin intermixed SU(4) skyrmion. Nuclear spin relaxation measurements show that the …
Magnetic skyrmions have attracted enormous research interest since their discovery a decade ago. The non-trivial real-space topology of these nano-whirls leads to fundamentally interesting and technologically relevant consequences - the skyrmion Hall effect of the texture and the topological Hall effect of the electrons. Furthermore, it grants skyrmions in a ferromagnetic surrounding great stability even at small sizes, making skyrmions aspirants to become the carriers of information in the future. Still, the utilization of skyrmions in spintronic devices has not been achieved yet, among other…
We theoretically predict and classify the localized modes of a skyrmion in a collinear uniaxial antiferromagnet and discuss how they can be excited. As a central result, we find two branches of skyrmion eigenmodes with distinct physical properties characterized by being low or high energy excitations. The frequency dependence of the low-energy modes scales as $R_0^{-2}$ for skyrmions with large radius $R_0$. Furthermore, we predict localized high-energy eigenmodes, which have no direct ferromagnetic counterpart. Except for the breathing mode, we find that all localized antiferromagnet skyrmion…
Spectrum of spin eigenmodes localized on a ferromagnetic skyrmion pinned by a geometrical defect (bump) of magnetic films is studied theoretically. By means of direct numerical solution of the corresponding eigenvalue problem and finite element micromagnetic simulations we demonstrate, that the curvature can induce localized modes with higher azimuthal and radial quantum numbers, which are absent for planar skyrmions (for the same parameters). The eigenfrequencies of all modes, except the breathing and gyromodes decreases with increasing curvature. Due to the translational symmetry break, the …
We analyze bilayer quantum Hall ferromagnets, whose underlying symmetry group is SU(4). Spin-pseudospin coherence develops spontaneously when the total electron density is low enough. Quasiparticles are CP^3 skyrmions. One skyrmion induces charge modulations on both of the two layers. At the filling factor$ν=2/m$ one elementary excitation consists of a pair of skyrmions and its charge is $2e/m$. Recent experimental data due to Sawada et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 80}, 4534 (1998)] support this conclusion.
We present a theory of magnetoelectric magnon-photon coupling in cavities hosting noncentrosymmetric magnets. Analogously to nonreciprocal phenomena in multiferroics, the magnetoelectric coupling is time-reversal and inversion asymmetric. This asymmetry establishes a means for exceptional tunability of magnon-photon coupling, which can be switched on and off by reversing the magnetization direction. Taking the multiferroic skyrmion-host Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$ with ultralow magnetic damping as an example, we reveal the electrical activity of skyrmion eigenmodes and propose it for magnon-photon splittin…
We demonstrate that an electric field could activate the three low-energy eigenmodes of the Neel-type skyrmion lattice via the electrically induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. In particular, we predict that the relative intensity of the clockwise rotation mode against the counter-clockwise rotation mode is significantly enhanced for the electrical activation in comparison with the magnetic activation. We also discover that the electrically and magnetically active modes obey unique selection rules. These findings promise a fresh pathway towards energy-efficient electrical manipulation of…
We theoretically discover that unique eigenmodes of skyrmion crystal (SkX) are not only magnetically active to ac magnetic field (H^w) but also electrically active to ac electric field (E^w) in a multiferroic chiral-lattice magnet Cu2OSeO3, which amplifies the dynamical magnetoelectric coupling between E^w and the spin texture. The resulting intense interference between their electric and magnetic activation processes can lead to unprecedentedly large diode effect on the microwave, i.e., its absorption by SkX changes up to ~20% when the incident direction is reversed. Our results demonstrate t…
The advent of Moiré materials has galvanized interest in the nature of charge carriers in topological bands. In contrast to conventional materials where charge carriers are electron-like quasiparticles, topological bands allow for more exotic possibilities where charge is carried by nontrivial topological textures, such as skyrmions. However, the real space description of skyrmions is ill-suited to address the limit of small or `baby' skyrmions which consist of an electron and a few spin flips. Here, we study the formation of the smallest skyrmions -- spin polarons, formed as bound states of a…
Skyrmions are topological magnetic textures that can arise in non-centrosymmetric ferromagnetic materials. In most systems experimentally investigated to date, skyrmions emerge as classical objects. However, the discovery of skyrmions with nanometer length scales has sparked interest in their quantum properties. Here, we simulate the ground states of two-dimensional spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg lattices with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions and discover a broad region in the zero-temperature phase diagram which hosts quantum skyrmion lattices. We argue that the quantum skyrmion lattice phase can be…
It is well-known that disordered quantum magnets usually host localized elementary excitations in gapped phases. Here we show that long-range magnetodipolar interaction can lead to quasiparticles delocalization in the three-dimensional case, similarly to the phenomenon previously described for localized vibrational modes in disordered solids. Employing renormalization group-like ideas, the average eigenmode occupation number is found to scale with the system size, which also leads to sub-diffusive dynamical properties of the system.
Skyrmions are small magnetic quasiparticles, which are uniquely characterized by their topological charge and their helicity. In this Rapid Communication, we show via calculations how both properties can be determined without relying on real-space imaging. The orbital magnetization and topological Hall conductivity measure the arising magnetization due to the circulation of electrons in the bulk and the occurrence of topologically protected edge channels due to the emergent field of a skyrmion crystal. Both observables quantify the topological Hall effect and distinguish skyrmions from antisky…
Spin ordering and its effect on the low energy quasiparticles in a p-wave superconducting fluid are investigated. We study the properties of a new 2D quantum spin triplet superconducting liquid where the ground state is spin rotation invariant. In quantum spin disordered cases, zero energy skyrmions are topologically stable because of a fermionic zero mode in space-time monopoles which serve as a quantum protectorate. The low energy quasiparticles are bound states of the bare Bogolubov- De Gennes ({\em BdeG})quasiparticles and skyrmions, which are charge neutral bosons at the zero energy limit.…
When two magnetic skyrmions - whirl-like, topologically protected quasiparticles - form a bound pair, a biskyrmion state with a topological charge of $N_\mathrm{Sk}=\pm 2$ is constituted. Recently, especially the case of two partially overlapping skyrmions has brought about great research interest. Since for its formation the individual skyrmions need to posses opposite in-plane magnetizations, such a biskyrmion cannot be stabilized by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya-interaction (DMI), which is the interaction that typically stabilizes skyrmions in non-centrosymmetric materials and at interfaces. He…
Magnonics is now an attractive field which focuses on the dynamic characteristics of magnons, a kind of quasiparticles in magnetic media, and attempt to apply magnons for functional devices. In order to construct magnon based devices, it is necessary to fabricate materials with specific and tunable magnon bands and band gaps. Skyrmion based magnonic crystals is one of the most suitable materials which possess periodical skyrmion structure and show applicative magnon bands and band gaps. In this review, we provide an overview over recent theoretical and experimental research on skyrmion based m…
We study formation of a periodical structure of quasiparticle-like magnetic configurations with non-trivial topological charge, known as a magnetic skyrmion phase, on a frustrated triangular lattice antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) by means of Monte Carlo simulations. The existence of such a phase, formed on the three interpenetrating sublattices, has been demonstrated for a sufficiently large strength of DMI. The goal of the present investigation is to establish the minimum values of both the DM interaction strength as well as the magnetic field …

In non-centrosymmetric crystals such as MnSi, magnetic order can take the form of a skyrmion crystal (SkX) . In this phase, conduction electrons coupled to the local magnetic moments acquire a Berry's phase, leading to an emergent electromagnetism. Motivated by experimental reports of a non-Fermi liquid phase in MnSi, in which resistivity is observed to scale as $Δρ\sim T^{3/2}$, here we examine the effect of coupling phonons of an incommensurate SkX to electrons. Despite the formal similarity to a system consisting of a Fermi surface coupled to an electromagnetic field, the Berry phase fluctu…
Spinful superfluids of ultracold atoms are ideal for investigating the intrinsic properties of spin current and texture because they are realized in an isolated, nondissipative system free from impurities, dislocations, and thermal fluctuations. This study theoretically reveals the impact of spin current on a magnetic domain wall in spinful superfluids. An exact wall solution is obtained in the ferromagnetic phase of a spin-1 Bose--Einstein condensate with easy-axis anisotropy at zero temperature. The bosonic-quasiparticle mechanics analytically show that the spin current along the wall become…
