We re-examine evidence that the Galactic Center Excess (GCE) originates primarily from point sources (PSs). We show that in our region of interest, non-Poissonian template fitting (NPTF) evidence for GCE PSs is an artifact of unmodeled north-south asymmetry of the GCE. This asymmetry is strongly favored by the fit (although it is unclear if this is physical), and when it is allowed, the preference for PSs becomes insignificant. We reproduce this behavior in simulations, including detailed properties of the spurious PS population. We conclude that NTPF evidence for GCE PSs is highly susceptible to certain systematic errors, and should not at present be taken to robustly disfavor a dominantly smooth GCE.

We perform a composite likelihood analysis of subdivided regions within the central $26^\circ\times20^\circ$ of the Milky Way, with the aim of characterizing the spectrum of the gamma-ray galactic center excess in regions of varying galactocentric distance. Observations by HAWC indicate that many young pulsars (including Geminga and Monogem) are surrounded by spatially extended, multi-TeV emitting regions. It is not currently known, however, whether TeV emission is also produced by recycled, millisecond pulsars (MSPs). In this study, we perform a stacked analysis of 24 MSPs within HAWC's field-of-view, finding between 2.6-3.2 sigma evidence that these sources are, in fact, surrounded by TeV halos. We search for a unified instrumental explanation of the spectral features seen near $E_γ=130$ GeV in photons collected by Fermi-LAT from the galactic center and from the Earth's limb. We show that the $\mathinner{\mathrm{GeV}}$ scale $γ$-ray excess from the direction of the Galactic Center can be naturally explained by the pair annihilation of Abelian vector dark matter (VDM) into a pair of dark Higgs bosons $VV \rightarrow ϕϕ$, followed by the subsequent decay of $ϕ$ into $ϕ\rightarrow b\bar{b} , τ\barτ $. All the processes are described by a renormalizable VDM model with the Higgs portal, which is naturally flavor-dependent. Some parameter space of this scenario can be tested at the near future direct dark matter search experiments such as LUX and XENON1T.

Studies of Fermi data indicate an excess of GeV gamma rays around the Galactic center (GC), possibly due to dark matter. We show that young gamma-ray pulsars can yield a similar signal. First, a high concentration of GC supernovae naturally leads to a population of kicked pulsars symmetric about the GC. Second, while very-young pulsars with soft spectra reside near the Galactic plane, pulsars with spectra that have hardened with age accumulate at larger angles. Several groups have analyzed the publicly-available Fermi-LAT data and reported a spatially extended $γ-$ray excess of around $1-3$ GeV from the region surrounding the Galactic Center that might originate from annihilation of dark matter particles with a rest mass $m_χ\sim 30-40$ GeV. We present simplified models for the galactic center gamma-ray excess where Dirac dark matter annihilates into pairs or triplets of on-shell bosonic mediators to the Standard Model. These annihilation modes allow the dark matter mass to be heavier than those of conventional effective theories for the gamma-ray excess. Because the annihilation rate is set by the dark matter--mediator coupling, the Standard Model coupling can be made parametrically small to `hide' the dark sector by suppressing direct detection and collider signals.
