An overview of the recent first observation of CP violation in the Charm sector by the LHCb collaboration. Selection of theoretical models explaining this measurement is reviewed. Finally, experimental prospects for future measurements are discussed.
CP violation (CPV) in the baryon sectors has not yet been established experimentally. In this work, we propose to search for the hyperon CPV through the Cabibbo-favored charm-baryon decaying processes involving a hyperon in the final states, such as $Λ_c^+\to Λ^0π^+, Λ^0\to pπ^-$. The CPV of the hyperon decays are purely revealed in these chain processes, since the CPV in the Cabibbo-favored charm decays are vanishing in the Standard Model (SM). The hyperons are polarized in the weak charm decays, so that we can measure the Lee-Yang asymmetric parameter $α$ by the angular distributions, and th…
Very recently, the LHCb Collaboration observed the $CP$ violation (CPV) in the charm sector for the first time, with $ΔA_{CP}^{\rm dir}\equiv A_{CP}(D^0\to K^+K^-)-A_{CP}(D^0\to π^+π^-)=(-1.54\pm0.29)\times10^{-3}$. This result is consistent with our prediction of $ΔA_{CP}^{\rm SM}=(-0.57\sim -1.87)\times 10^{-3}$ obtained in the factorization-assisted topological-amplitude (FAT) approach in [PRD86,036012(2012)]. It implies that the current understanding of the penguin dynamics in charm decays in the Standard Model is reasonable. Motivated by the success of the FAT approach, we further suggest…
In these proceedings, recent results on time-dependent and time-integrated measurements of $C\!P$ violation and of meson mixing in the charm sector are presented, including the first observation of $C\!P$ violation in the charm system.
This document presents eight recent and new analyses from the LHCb experiment covering results on CKM angle $γ$ and high precision measurements on charm mixing parameters. In addition, the latest CP violation measurements in charm and beauty decays are reported.
LHCb has collected the world's largest sample of charmed hadrons. This sample is used to search for direct and indirect CP violation in charm and to measure $D^0$ mixing parameters. Preliminary measurements from several decay modes are presented, with complementary time-dependent and time-integrated analyses.
LHCb continues to expand its world-leading sample of charmed hadrons collected during LHC's Run 1 (2010-2012) and Run 2 (2015-present). This sample is yielding some of the most stringent tests of the Standard Model understanding of charm physics. This includes precise measurements of the neutral D-meson mixing parameters and some of the most sensitive searches for direct and indirect CP violation in charm interactions.
The Standard Model predicts CP asymmetries in charm decays of $O(10^{-3})$ and the observation of significantly larger CP violation could indicate non-Standard Model physics effects. During 2011 and 2012, the LHCb experiment collected a sample corresponding to 3/fb yielding the world's largest sample of decays of charmed hadrons. This allowed the CP violation in charm to be studied with unprecedented precision in many two- body and multibody decay modes. The most recent LHCb searches for direct CP violation are presented in these proceedings.
Precision measurements in charm physics offer a window into a unique sector of potential New Physics interactions. LHCb is poised to become a world leading experiment for charm studies, recording enormous statistics with a detector tailored for flavor physics. This article presents recent charm CPV and mixing studies from LHCb, including LHCb's first CP asymmetry measurement with 37 inverse pb of data collected in 2010. The difference of the CP asymmetries of D0 decays to the K-K+ and π-π+ final states is determined to be ΔA_{CP} = (-0.28 +/- 0.70 +/- 0.25)%. Significant updates to the materia…
A first measurement of \fplus, the \CP-even content of the decay D->4pi using decays of $ψ(3770)$ to quantum correlated $D\bar{D}$ decays collected by the CLEO-c experiment is presented. The measured value is \fplus=$0.737 \pm 0.028$. This relatively high value makes the decay mode particularly suitable for both measurements of the CKM angle $γ$ and charm \CP-violation in a model independent way. This novel approach to studying indirect \CP-violation in charm decays is based on the time-dependent inclusive analysis of multi body self-conjugate states. These final states can be used to determin…
We review basic phenomenology on $D^0$ mixing/CP violation and recent experimental results on them. $D^0$ mixing is established by combining results from multiple experiments but no CP violation in the charm sector has been seen. $D^0$ mixing from a single experiment will clarify the size of the mixing, and observation of CP violation in charm decays at the present level of experimental sensitivity would be clear signal of new physics beyond the standard model.

We present a brief review of CPV and mixing measurements in the charm sector, with emphasys in results published or presented since the previous edition of the Physics in Collision Symposia.
$CP$ violation asymmetry is expected to be very small within the Standard Model. Observation of $CP$ violation in charm sector would hint towards New Physics. Time-reversal asymmetry is sensitive to $CPV$ via the $CPT$ Theorem, and is a clean and alternative way to search for CP violation in charm decays. This is achieved by the use of triple-product correlations in 4-body charm meson decays. The results from previous searches at BaBar and LHCb Collaborations and the latest results from Belle are reported. The most recent result from Belle performed in $D^{0} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{-}$ decays u…
High-precision flavor physics measurements play a complementary role to the direct searches for new physics by CMS and ATLAS experiments at LHC. Such measurements will be performed with the Belle II detector at the upgraded KEKB accelerator (SuperKEKB) in Japan. The physics potential with emphasis on the charm sector, current status and future prospects of the Belle II experiment are presented in these proceedings.
We review the prospects of measurements of the CKM matrix elements corresponding to the first two generations of quarks, as well as measurements of leptonic and semileptonic charm meson decays at LHCb. We review the status of searches for Lepton Non-Universality in the charm sector, and provide motivation to continue such searches.
We investigate the potential for discovering new physics through the low-energy scattering processes $e^-p\to e^-(μ^-)Λ_c$, which could be accessible in the forthcoming $ep$ scattering experiments once adapted to our proposed setups. In the framework of a general low-energy effective Lagrangian, we demonstrate that, compared with the conventional flavor-changing neutral-current weak decays of charmed hadrons and the dilepton productions at high-energy colliders, the low-energy scattering processes can provide more competitive potentials for hunting the underlying new physics. In some specific …
In this paper, we discuss the theoretical framework and the experimental measurements of the magnetic moment of the charm baryons. The $Λ_c^+$ magnetic moment is particularly interesting since it is equal to the magnetic moment of the charm quark. The measurements of the magnetic moments of other charm baryons, such as $Ξ_c$, allow to perform detailed spectroscopy studies. The magnetic moment of the $Λ_c$ can be determined using radiative charmonium decay and the present results show a tension with majority of theoretical predictions. As recently pointed out, the magnetic moment of the charm b…
Although CP violation is predicted to be small in the Standard Model, there exists a continuing theoretical interest within the charm sector due to enhancements of CPV through new physics processes. We present an overview of the measurements of direct CP violation in the charm sector at Belle. We give a brief review of the theory of CP violation in charm physics, then discuss recent measurements for the decay modes $D^{+}_{(s)}\rightarrow ϕπ^{+}$; $D^{0}\rightarrow K^{0}_{S}π^{0}, K^{0}_{S}η^{(\prime)}$; $D^{+}\rightarrow π^{+}η^{(\prime)}$; and $D^{+}\rightarrow K^{0}_{S}π^{+}$.
In the Standard Model \CP violation in charm decays is expected to be very small, at the level of 0.1% or less. A significant excess of \CP violation with respect to the Standard Model predictions would be a signature of new physics. We report on recent searches for \CP violation in charm meson decays at \babar, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 470 \invfb. In particular, we report on searches for \CPV in the 3-body $\Dp\to\Kp\Km\pip$ decay and for decay modes with a \KS in the final state, such as $\Dp\to\KS\Kp$, $\Ds\to\KS\Kp$, $\Ds\to\KS\pip$. A lifetime…
We discuss the prospects to probe the light-quark Yukawa couplings to the Higgs boson. The Higgs coupling to the charm quark can be probed both via inclusive and exclusive approaches. On the inclusive frontier, we use our recently proposed method together with published experimental studies for the sensitivity of the Higgs coupling to bottom quarks to find that the high-luminosity LHC can be sensitive to modifications of the charm Yukawa of the order of a few times its standard model (SM) value. We also present a preliminary study of this mode for a 100 TeV hadronic machine (with similar lumin…
Hadrons containing b-quarks represent a great opportunity to investigate the flavor sector of the Standard Model (SM) and to look for New Physics effects (NP). In this report we review the most up-to-date results on b-hadron decay rates and CP violating asymmetries: among other results, we report Branching Ratio (BR) and CP Violation (CPV) of B0, B0s and Lambda0b decay modes into pairs of charmless charged hadrons (pions, kaons and protons), the first search for CPV in B0s to phiphi decays and the first observation of bs to K0starK0star decay. Two new results from the CDF collaboration are rep…
We currently live in the age of the CKM paradigm. The $3\times 3$ matrix that links $(d,\ s,\ b)$ quarks to $(u,\ c,\ t)$ in the charged current weak interaction, being complex and nominally with 18 parameters, can be accounted for by just 3 rotation angles and one $CP$ violating (CPV) phase, with unitarity and the CKM phases triumphantly tested at the B factories. But the CKM picture is unsatisfactory and has too many parameters. The main aim of Flavor Physics and $CP$ violation (FPCP) studies is the pursuit to uncover New Physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). Two highlights of LHC Run~1 pe…
The Belle II experiment is under construction at the KEK laboratory in Japan. Belle II will study e+e- collisions at or near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the goal of collecting 50 ab-1 of data, which is a large increase over that recorded by the Belle and BaBar experiments. This data will provide a large sample of charm meson decays, and Belle II will have a very active charm physics program. Here we discuss some highlights of this program, focusing on measurements of mixing, CP violation, and leptonic decays.
In this paper, we focused on the recent progress of $γ/ϕ_{3}$ from $B\rightarrow DK$, DCPV effects in charmless hadronic $B_{(S)}$ decays and the prospects of SuperB and BelleII experiments.
The analysis of quantum-correlated $D-\bar{D}$ decays produced at the $ψ(3770)$ resonance gives unique insight into quantities such as strong-phase differences and coherence factors. Knowledge of these parameters is invaluable for measurements of the CKM-angle $γ$ ($ϕ_3$) in $B \to DK$ decays. Results from CLEO-c analyses performed at the $ψ(3770)$ resonance in a variety of decay channels are reported, and their consequences for the determination of $γ$ is assessed. Future prospects are given for extensions to the present studies.
Belle II is a major upgrade of the Belle experiment and will operate at the $B$-factory SuperKEKB in Japan. Here we discuss the expected sensitivity of Belle II for $D^0 - \bar{D}^0$ mixing and $CP$ violation measurements in the charm sector, which will benefit from a factor 50 increase in statistics and an improved vertex detection and particle identification. The impact on the determination of CKM parameters from the measurements of purely leptonic $D$ mesons decays is discussed. Finally a novel method of flavour tagging to substantially increase the sample of $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ is presen…
We present the most recent results from the BESIII experiment. This review covers the studies of charmonium decays, light hadron spectroscopy and charm physics. Especially, the prospects for weak decays of charm mesons are addressed at the BESIII.
Resonances and final state interactions (FSI) play a role in the formation of CP violation (CPV) constrained by CPT invariance. We provide a general formulation of CPV including resonances and FSI starting from the CPT constraint. Our discussion is elaborated within a simple $B$ decay model with the $ρ$ and $f_0(980)$ resonances plus a non resonant background including the $ππ\to KK$ coupled amplitude. We consider few illustrative examples to show the interference patterns appearing in the CP asymmetry, namely, that from the $ρ$ resonance plus a non-resonant amplitude, and that from the interf…
Precision measurements in charm physics offer a window into a unique sector of potential New Physics interactions. LHCb is well equipped to take advantage of the enormous production cross-section of charm mesons in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV. The measurement of the $D^0 -\bar{D}^0$ mixing parameters and the search for CP-violation in the charm sector are key physics goals of the LHCb programme. The first CP violation measurements in the charm sector, with 37 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected in 2010, are discussed. The study of $D^+ \rightarrow K^- K^+ π^+$ decays shows no indication of CP …
High-precision measurements performed by the LHCb collaboration have opened a new era in charm physics. Several crucial measurements, particularly in spectroscopy, rare decays and CP violation, can benefit from the increased statistical power of an upgraded LHCb detector. The upgrade of LHCb detector, its software infrastructure, and the impact on charm physics are discussed in detail.
Fermilab operates the world's most intense antiproton source. Newly proposed experiments can use those antiprotons either parasitically during Tevatron Collider running or after the end of the Tevatron Collider program. For example, the annihilation of 5 to 8 GeV antiprotons is expected to yield world-leading sensitivities to hyperon rare decays and CP violation. It could also provide the world's most intense source of tagged D^0 mesons, and thus the best near-term opportunity to study charm mixing and, via CP violation, to search for new physics. Other measurements that could be made include …
This review will present the future prospects for physics at electron-positron colliders running near the Upsilon(4S) as well as at the charm and tau thresholds. It includes a review of the Belle II and SuperB projects. Also reviewed are the plans for BES III, which operates near the charm threshold at the IHEP BEPC machine in Bejing and the status of the Super Charm/Tau Factory proposed for the Budker Institute for Nuclear Physics (BINP) in Novosibirsk.
The Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider will provide a large sample of charm mesons in addition to its primary goal of B meson production. The large data sample and wide variety of accessible D meson decay modes in a clean experimental environment provide sensitivity to new physics via D meson mixing and CP violation measurements. This contribution briefly describes selected components of the upgrade from Belle to Belle II and KEKB to SuperKEKB, and some prospects for new physics searches in the areas of charm mixing and CP violation.
We report on the observation of the charm mesons D^\ast \pm, D^\pm and D_s ^\pm with 1.4 nb^-1 of data, and of the J/psi-->mu+mu- resonance with 78 nb-1 of data from the ATLAS detector in 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The resultant signals support the high performance of the ATLAS detector as predicted from simulation and prospects for future measurements in the charm and charmonium sector.
CP violation is an excellent tool for probing flavor dynamics as we learnt first with $K_L \to 2 π$ and later also with the weak decays of beauty mesons. LHCb 2019 data have shown CP violation for the first time in $D^0\to K^-K^+$ vs. $D^0\toπ^-π^+$. Searching for CP asymmetries is of great interest in charm quark sector in the Standard Model (SM) or even more beyond it. In charm hadron decays, lots of work had focused on two-body final states, and the measurements of CP asymmetries in three- or four-body final states are rare. Dalitz plots have shown an excellent record for three-body final s…
We present recent results from charmonium and open charm production at the LHCb experiment at CERN, Geneva. We concentrate on studies for the measurement of the cross section pp ->JPsi+X in its decay channel with two muons, showing the agreement of the simulation with the data in few key distributions. We also show the reconstructed modes of D0->K-pi+, D0 K-pi+pi0, LambdaC+ -> p K-pi+ and D+ ->Ks0 pi+ and their prospects.
The CKM paradigm has been tested thoroughly over the last 40 years in both the neutral $K$ and $B$ systems. The recent discovery of neutral charm meson mixing has prompted the search for CP violation in $D$ decays. We discuss the prospects of performing time-dependent CP asymmetry measurements at facilities either taking data or under construction. Such measurements can (i) provide precision determinations of the charm mixing phase, and (ii) be used to probe for possible new physics effects (and perhaps ultimately constrain the CKM paradigm). We propose the use of the time-dependent asymmetry …
Observation in astronomy suggests that our Universe contains an abundance of matter over antimatter, which can only be explained if the combined CP symmetry is violated. Studies of CP violation have driven the flavor physics with the aim of testing the Standard Model of particle physics and searching for physics beyond. CP violation is discovered in strange, beauty and charm meson systems, however no conclusive sign of CP violation in baryon decays has been observed yet. This review summarizes CP violation studies performed by the LHCb experiment in charmless decays and rare decays of beauty b…
We present a summary of the latest measurements of branching fractions and direct CP violations in the charmless hadronic two-body B decays B -> K^+ pi^-, K^+ pi^0, K^0 pi^+ and K^0 pi^0, performed by the Belle, BABAR, CDF and CLEO experiments. The interpretations and the future prospects about discrepancies, called "Kpi puzzle", between theoretical expectations and measurements are discussed.
The LHCb experiment is running at the Large Hadron Collider to study CP violation and rare decays in the beauty and charm sectors. The physics potential is given for five key observables sensitive to new physics in nominal conditions. The motivation and the strategy of the upgrade envisaged for 2016 is presented with the expected performance for an integrated luminosity of 50 1/fb.
We give a brief review of the current constraints and prospects for detection of higgsino dark matter in low-scale supersymmetry. In the first part we argue, after performing a survey of all potential dark matter particles in the MSSM, that the (nearly) pure higgsino is the only candidate emerging virtually unscathed from the wealth of observational data of recent years. In doing so by virtue of its gauge quantum numbers and electroweak symmetry breaking only, it maintains at the same time a relatively high degree of model-independence. In the second part we properly review the prospects for d…
These proceedings review direct CP violation in hadronic B decays. The experimental results include those related to the measurement of the unitarity triangle angle gamma using B->D(*)K(*) decays and measurements of charmless hadronic B decays. The results reported have been made by the BABAR, Belle and LHCb collaborations. Theoretical calculations related to these decays are also summarised. The importance of inputs from the charm sector in determining gamma from B->D(*)K(*) decays is discussed. In addition, the future prospects for these measurements will be reviewed.
Multibody charm decays have a rich phenomenology and potentially unique sensitivity to CP violation. In these proceedings we discuss recent results, challenges and prospects in searches for CP violation in three and four body charm decays.
LHCb has started its charm physics programme using the data taken at the LHC. The first measurements of open charm production cross-sections for proton proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7 \tev$ are presented. The cross-sections of the \PDzero, $\PDstar^+$, \PDplus, and \PDsplus mesons are found to be in broad agreement with theory predictions. The prospects for measurements of charm mixing, CP and T violation in decays of neutral \PD mesons at LHCb are discussed. Furthermore, plans for CP violation measurements using charged \PD mesons are presented. Most analyses are expected to yield results im…
Decays of the type $B\to D hh^\prime$, where a $b$~hadron decays to a neutral charm meson that can be an admixture of $D^0$ and $\overline{D}{}^0$ states together with two light particles that are typically a kaon and a pion, have demonstrated potential to enable precise determinations of the angle $γ$ of the CKM Unitarity Triangle. The current status and future prospects of these measurements are reviewed.
