In the search for experimental realizations of bond-anisotropic Kitaev interactions and resulting spin-liquid phases, the layered magnet $α$-RuCl$_3$ is a prime candidate. Its modelling typically involves Heisenberg, Kitaev, and symmetric off-diagonal $Γ$ interactions on the two-dimensional honeycomb lattice. However, recent neutron-scattering experiments point towards a sizeable magnetic interlayer coupling. Here we study three-dimensional exchange models for $α$-RuCl$_3$, for both possible $R\bar{3}$ and $C2/m$ crystal structures. We discuss the symmetry constraints on the interlayer couplings, construct minimal models, and use them to compute the magnetic mode dispersion and the dynamical spin structure factor, in both the zero-field zigzag phase and the paramagnetic high-field phase. Our predictions for the interlayer mode dispersion shall guide future experiments; they also call for a reevaluation of the quantitative model parameters relevant for $α$-RuCl$_3$.
In spite of flourishing studies on the topology of spin waves, a generic framework to classify and compute magnon band topology in non-collinear magnets is still missing. In this work we provide such a theory framework, by mapping an arbitrary linear spin wave into a local free-fermion Hamiltonian with exactly the same spectrum, symmetry implementation and band topology, which allows for a full classification and calculation on any topological properties of magnon bands. We apply this fermionization approach to honeycomb Kitaev magnet $α$-RuCl$_3$, and show the existence of topologically prote…
Revealing the spin excitations of complex quantum magnets is key to developing a minimal model that explains the underlying magnetic correlations in the ground state. We investigate the low-energy magnons in $α$-RuCl$_3$ by combining time-domain terahertz spectroscopy under an external magnetic field and model Hamiltonian calculations. We observe two absorption peaks around 2.0 and 2.4 meV, which we attribute to zone-center spin waves. Using linear spin-wave theory with only nearest-neighbor terms of the exchange couplings, we calculate the antiferromagnetic resonance frequencies and reveal th…
We study the nature of the debated thermal Hall effect in the candidate Kitaev material $α$-RuCl$_3$. Without assuming the existence of a gapped spin liquid, we show that a realistic minimal spin model in the canted zigzag phase suffices, at the level of linear spin-wave theory, to qualitatively explain the observed temperature and magnetic field dependence of the non-quantized thermal Hall conductivity $κ_{xy}$, with its origin lying in the Berry curvature of the magnon bands. The magnitude of the effect is however too small compared to the measurement by Czajka et al. [Nat. Mater. 22, 36-41 …
We use time-domain terahertz spectroscopy to measure the low energy conductivity and magnons in RuCl$_3$ under external magnetic field. At zero field, an oscillation with a frequency of 0.62 THz is clearly observed in time-domain spectrum below T$_N$, which is identified as a magnon excitation in the magnetic order state. The magnon excitation is not affected by the external magnetic field $\textbf{H}_{DC}$ when it is applied along the c-axis, but is clearly suppressed when $\textbf{H}_{DC}$ is applied within ab plane. More interestingly, when the magnetic component of THz wave $\textbf{h}(t)$…
The Kitaev quantum spin liquid (KSL) is a theoretically predicted state of matter whose fractionalized quasiparticles are distinct from bosonic magnons, the fundamental excitation in ordered magnets. The layered honeycomb antiferromagnet $α$-RuCl$_3$ is a KSL candidate material, as it can be driven to a magnetically disordered phase by application of an in-plane magnetic field, with $H_c \sim 7$ T. Here we report a detailed characterization of the magnetic excitation spectrum of this material by high-resolution time-domain terahertz (THz) spectroscopy. We observe two sharp magnon resonances wh…
The pure Kitaev honeycomb model harbors a quantum spin liquid in zero magnetic fields, while applying finite magnetic fields induces a topological spin liquid with non-Abelian anyonic excitations. This latter phase has been much sought after in Kitaev candidate materials, such as $α$-RuCl$_3$. Currently, two competing scenarios exist for the intermediate field phase of this compound ($B=7-10$ T), based on experimental as well as theoretical results: (i) conventional multiparticle magnetic excitations of integer quantum number vs. (ii) Majorana fermionic excitations of possibly non-Abelian natu…
Thermal Hall conductivity originating from topological magnons is observed in the Kitaev candidate $α$-RuCl$_3$ in broad intervals of temperature and in-plane magnetic field, raising questions on the role of the Majorana mode in heat conduction.
Acoustic phonons have recently been posited as playing an integral role in explaining the half-quantized thermal Hall effect in $α$-RuCl$_3$. Therefore, we present much needed inelastic x-ray scattering measurements of its acoustic phonon dispersion, along with calculations using the frozen-phonon method. We also discuss a temperature study which conclusively shows a first-order structural transition to a non-$C2/m$ space group at low temperature. Together these results are an important backbone for future theoretical and experimental studies of $α$-RuCl$_3$.
Proposed effective Hamiltonians from the literature for the material $α$-RuCl${}_3$ are used to compute the magnon thermal Hall conductivity, $κ_{xy}$, using linear spin wave theory for the magnetically ordered state. No model previously proposed that was tested explains published experimental data. Models with Kitaev interaction $K>0$ are seen to predict $κ_{xy}\gtrsim 0$, which is inconsistent with the data. Fluctuations toward a Kitaev-type spin liquid would have the wrong sign to explain the data. However, a slight variant of a previously proposed model predicts a large $κ_{xy}$, demonstra…
An external magnetic field can induce a transition in $α$-RuCl$_3$ from an ordered zigzag state to a disordered state that is possibly related to the Kitaev quantum spin liquid. Here we present new field dependent inelastic neutron scattering and magnetocaloric effect measurements implying the existence of an additional transition out of the quantum spin liquid phase at an upper field limit $B_u$. The neutron scattering shows three distinct regimes of magnetic response. In the low field ordered state the response shows magnon peaks; the intermediate field regime shows only continuum scattering…
The description of quantized collective excitations stands as a landmark in the quantum theory of condensed matter. A prominent example occurs in conventional magnets, which support bosonic magnons - quantized harmonic fluctuations of the ordered spins. In striking contrast is the recent discovery that strongly spin-orbital coupled magnets, such as $α$-RuCl$_3$, may display a broad excitation continuum inconsistent with conventional magnons. Due to incomplete knowledge of the underlying interactions unraveling the nature of this continuum remains challenging. The most discussed explanation ref…
We report detailed measurements of the Onsager-like planar thermal Hall conductivity $κ_{xy}$ in $α$-RuCl$_3$, a spin-liquid candidate of topical interest. With the thermal current ${\bf J}_{\rm Q}$ and magnetic field $\bf B\parallel a$ (zigzag axis), the observed $κ_{xy}/T$ varies strongly with temperature $T$ (1-10 K). The results are well-described by bosonic edge excitations which evolve to topological magnons at large $B$. Fits to $κ_{xy}/T$ yield a Chern number $\sim 1$ and a band energy $ω_1\sim$1 meV, in agreement with sharp modes seen in electron spin-resonance experiments. The bosoni…
We report on the unusual behavior of the in-plane thermal conductivity ($κ$) and torque ($τ$) response in the Kitaev-Heisenberg material $α$-RuCl$_3$. $κ$ shows a striking enhancement with linear growth beyond H = 7 T, where magnetic order disappears, while $τ$ for both of the in-plane symmetry directions shows an anomaly at the same field. The temperature- and field-dependence of $κ$ are far more complex than conventional phonon and magnon contributions, and require us to invoke the presence of unconventional spin excitations whose properties are characteristic of a field-induced spin-liquid …
We present comprehensive electron spin resonance (ESR) studies of in-plane oriented single crystals of $α$-RuCl$_3$, a quasi-two-dimensional material with honeycomb structure, focusing on its high-field spin dynamics. The measurements were performed in magnetic fields up to 16 T, applied along the [110] and [100] directions. Several ESR modes were detected. Combining our findings with recent inelastic neutron- and Raman-scattering data, we identify most of the observed excitations. Most importantly, we show that the low-temperature ESR response beyond the boundary of the magnetically ordered r…
We argue that several empirical constraints strongly restrict parameters of the effective microscopic spin model describing $α$-RuCl$_3$. In particular, such constraints dictate a substantial \emph{positive} off-diagonal anisotropic coupling, $Γ^\prime\!>\!0$, not anticipated previously. The renormalization by quantum fluctuations allows to reconcile larger values of the advocated bare parameters with their earlier assessments and provides a consistent description of the field evolution of spin excitations in the paramagnetic phase. We assert that large anisotropic terms inevitably result in s…
What is the correct low-energy spin Hamiltonian description of $α$-RuCl$_3$? The material is a promising Kitaev spin liquid candidate, but is also known to order magnetically, the description of which necessitates additional interaction terms. The nature of these interactions, their magnitudes and even signs, remain an open question. In this work we systematically investigate dynamical and thermodynamic magnetic properties of proposed effective Hamiltonians. We calculate zero-temperature inelastic neutron scattering (INS) intensities using exact diagonalization, and magnetic specific heat usin…
Layered α-RuCl3 is a promising material to potentially realize the long-sought Kitaev quantum spin liquid with fractionalized excitations. While evidence of this exotic state has been reported under a modest in-plane magnetic field, such behavior is largely inconsistent with theoretical expectations of Kitaev phases emerging only in out-of-plane fields. These predicted field-induced states have been mostly out of reach due to the strong easy-plane anisotropy of bulk crystals, however. We use a combination of tunneling spectroscopy, magnetotransport, electron diffraction, and ab initio calculat…
We present an accurate transfer matrix renormalization group calculation of the thermodynamics in a quantum spin-1 planar ferromagnetic chain. We also calculate the field dependence of the magnon gap and confirm the accuracy of the magnon dispersion derived earlier through an 1/n expansion. We are thus able to examine the validity of a number of previous calculations and further analyze a wide range of experiments on CsNiF_3 concerning the magnon dispersion, magnetization, susceptibility, and specific heat. Although it is not possible to account for all data with a single set of parameters, th…
Topologically ordered states of matter are generically characterized by excitations with quantum number fractionalization. A prime example is the spin liquid realized in Kitaev's honeycomb-lattice compass model where spin-flip excitations fractionalize into Majorana fermions and Ising gauge fluxes. While numerous compounds have been proposed to be proximate to such a spin-liquid phase, clear-cut evidence for fractionalized excitations is lacking. Here we employ microwave absorption measurements to study the low-energy excitations in $α$-RuCl$_3$ over a wide range of frequencies, magnetic field…
Layered $α$-RuCl3 has been discussed as a proximate Kitaev spin liquid compound. Raman and THz spectroscopy of magnetic excitations confirm that the low-temperature antiferromagnetic ordered phase features a broad Raman continuum, together with two magnon-like excitations at 2.7 and 3.6 meV, respectively. The continuum strength is maximized as long-range order is suppressed by an external magnetic field. The state above the field-induced quantum phase transition around 7.5 T is characterized by a gapped multi-particle continuum out of which a two-particle bound state emerges, together with a w…
We report measurements of optical absorption in the zig-zag antiferromagnet $α$-RuCl$_3$ as a function of temperature, $T$, magnetic field, $B$, and photon energy, $\hbarω$ in the range $\sim$ 0.3 to 8.3 meV, using time-domain terahertz spectroscopy. Polarized measurements show that 3-fold rotational symmetry is broken in the honeycomb plane from 2 K to 300 K. We find a sharp absorption peak at 2.56 meV upon cooling below the Néel temperature of 7 K at $B=0$ that we identify as magnetic-dipole excitation of a zero-wavevector magnon, or antiferromagnetic resonance (AFMR). With application of $B…
We investigate the phononic in-plane longitudinal low-temperature thermal conductivity kappa_ab of the Kitaev quantum magnet alpha-RuCl3 for large in-plane magnetic fields up to 33 T. Our data reveal for fields larger than the critical field Bc ~ 8 T, at which the magnetic order is suppressed, a dramatic increase of kappa_ab at all temperatures investigated. The analysis of our data shows that the phonons are not only strongly scattered by a magnetic mode at relatively large energy which scales roughly linearly with the magnetic field, but also by a small-energy mode which emerges near Bc with…
We extend the self-consistent Hartree-Fock-Popov calculations by Nikuni et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 5868 (2000)] concerning the Bose-Eistein condensation of magnons in TlCuCl3 to include a realistic dispersion of the excitations. The result for the critical field as a function of temperature behaves as Hc(T)-Hc(0) T^{3/2} below 2K but deviates from this simple power-law at higher temperature and is in very good agreement with the experimental results. The specific heat is computed as a function of temperature for different values of the magnetic field. It shows a lambda-like shape at the tran…
Searching for Kitaev quantum spin liquid (QSL) is a fascinating and challenging problem. Much effort has been devoted to honeycomb lattice candidates with strong spin-orbit coupling in 5d-electron iridates and 4delectron RuCl3. Recently, theoretical studies suggested that the 3d7 Co-based honeycomb materials with high spin state S=3/2 and effective orbital angular momentum L=1 could also be promising candidates of Kitaev QSL. One of the candidates, BaCo2(AsO4)2, was revisited recently. The long range magnetic order in BaCo2(AsO4)2 can be suppressed by very weak in-plane magnetic field, suggest…
We use quantum Monte Carlo simulations and numerical analytic continuation to study high-energy spin excitations in the two-dimensional S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet at low temperature. We present results for both the transverse and longitudinal dynamic spin structure factor S(q,w) at q=(pi,0) and (pi/2,pi/2). Linear spin-wave theory predicts no dispersion on the line connecting these momenta. Our calculations show that in fact the magnon energy at (pi,0) is 10% lower than at (pi/2,pi/2). We also discuss the transverse and longitudinal multi-magnon continua and their relevance to neutron sc…
Small angle neutron inelastic scattering measurement has been performed to study the magnon dispersion relation in the field-induced-ferromagnetic phase of the noncentrosymmetric binary compound MnSi. For the magnons propagating parallel or anti-parallel to the external magnetic field, we experimentally confirmed that the dispersion relation is asymmetrically shifted along the magnetic field direction. This magnon dispersion shift is attributed to the relativistic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, which is finite in noncentrosymmetric magnets, such as MnSi. The shift direction is found to be …
The magnetic properties of the interacting dimer system TlCuCl3 are investigated within a bond-operator formulation. The observed field-induced staggered magnetic order perpendicular to the field is described as a Bose condensation of magnons which are linear combinations of dimer singlet and triplet modes. This technique accounts for the magnetization curve and for the field dependence of the magnon dispersion curves observed by high-field neutron scattering measurements.
The topological properties of massive and massless fermionic quasiparticles have been intensively investigated over the past decade in topological materials without magnetism. Recently, the bosonic analogs of such quasiparticles arising from spin waves have been reported in the two-dimensional (2D) honeycomb lattice ferromagnet/antiferromagnet and the 3D antiferromagnet. Here we use time-of-flight inelastic neutron scattering to study spin waves of the S = 1 honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet BaNi2(AsO4)2, which has a zig-zag antiferromagnetic (AF) ground state identical to that of the Kitaev q…
$^7$Li nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and terahertz (THz) spectroscopies are used to probe magnetic excitations and their field dependence in the hyperhoneycomb Kitaev magnet $β$-Li$_2$IrO$_3$. Spin-lattice relaxation rate ($1/T_1$) measured down to 100\,mK indicates gapless nature of the excitations at low fields (below $H_c\simeq 2.8$\,T), in contrast to the gapped magnon excitations found in the honeycomb Kitaev magnet $α$-RuCl$_3$ at zero applied magnetic field. At higher temperatures in $β$-Li$_2$IrO$_3$, $1/T_1$ passes through a broad maximum without any clear anomaly at the Néel tempe…
We have extended our previous series studies of quantum antiferromagnets at zero temperature by computing the one-magnon dispersion curves and various structure factors for the linear chain, square and simple cubic lattices. Many of these results are new; others are a substantial extension of previous work. These results are directly comparable with neutron scattering experiments and we make such comparisons where possible.
Within the Dyson-Maleev boson formalism, we study the zero-temperature magnon dispersions in a family of one-dimensional quantum Heisenberg ferrimagnets composed of two different spins $(S_1,S_2)$ in the elementary cell. It is shown that the spin-wave theory can produce precise quantitative results for the low-energy excitations. The spin-stiffness constant $ρ_s$ and the optical magnon gap $Δ$ of different $(S_1,S_2)$ ferrimagnetic systems are calculated, respectively, to second and third order in the quasiparticle interaction. The spin-wave results are compared with available numerical estima…
Proximity effects induced in the 2D Dirac material graphene potentially open access to novel and intriguing physical phenomena. Thus far, the coupling between graphene and ferromagnetic insulators has been experimentally established. However, only very little is known about graphene's interaction with antiferromagnetic insulators. Here, we report a low temperature study of the electronic properties of high quality van der Waals heterostructures composed of a single graphene layer proximitized with $α$-RuCl$_3$. The latter is known to become antiferromagnetically ordered below 10 K. Shubnikov d…
We calculate magnon dispersions and damping in the Kitaev-Heisenberg model with an off-diagonal exchange $Γ$ and isotropic third-nearest-neighbor interaction $J_3$ on a honeycomb lattice. This model is relevant to a description of the magnetic properties of iridium oxides $α$-Li$_2$IrO$_3$ and Na$_2$IrO$_3$, and Ru-based materials such as $α$-RuCl$_3$. We use an unconventional parametrization of the spin-wave expansion, in which each Holstein-Primakoff boson is represented by two conjugate hermitian operators. This approach gives us an advantage over the conventional one in identifying paramet…
The data on the dispersion of the magnetic excitations of CuGeO_3 in the spin-Peierls dimerized phase are analyzed. On the basis of the lattice structure it is shown that even along the chains the $d=2$ character cannot be neglected. The symmetry of the dispersion differs from the one assumed so far. The magnetic resonance data is reinterpreted. The possibility of interchain rather than intrachain frustration is discussed.
We derive higher-order corrections in the magnon dispersion relations for two- and three-dimensional antiferromagnets exposed to magnetic and staggered fields that are mutually aligned. "Dressing" the magnons is the prerequisite to separate the low-temperature representation of the pressure into a piece due to noninteracting magnons and a piece that corresponds to the magnon-magnon interaction. Both in two and three spatial dimensions, the interaction in the pressure turns out to be attractive. While concrete figures refer to the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ square-lattice and the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ sim…
Ab initio calculations of the magnon dispersion in ferromagnetic materials typically rely on the adiabatic local density approximation (ALDA) in which the effective exchange-correlation field is everywhere parallel to the magnetization. These calculations, however, tend to overestimate the "magnon stiffness", defined as the curvature of the magnon frequency vs. wave vector relation evaluated at zero wave vector. Here we suggest a simple procedure to improve the magnon dispersion by taking into account gradient corrections to the ALDA at the exchange-only level. We find that this gradient corre…
The magnon disp ersion in Ca2RuO4 has been determined by inelastic neutron scattering on single crytals containing 1% of Ti. The dispersion is well described by a conventional Heisenberg model suggesting a local moment model with nearest neighbor interaction of J=8 meV. Nearest and next-nearest neighbor interaction as well as inter-layer coupling parameters are required to properly describe the entire dispersion. Spin-orbit coupling induces a very large anisotropy gap in the magnetic excitations in apparent contrast with a simple planar magnetic model. Orbital ordering breaking tetragonal symm…
We use quantum Monte Carlo methods and single-mode approximation to study the magnon dispersion in the 2D half-filled Hubbard and phonon-coupled Heisenberg models. We find that in the Hubbard model with $U/t< 8$, high-energy magnon dispersion is similar to those observed in inelastic neutron scattering experiments in ${La}_2{CuO}_4$. On the other hand, our studies of a 2D Heisenberg model coupled to dynamic optical bond phonons, fails to reproduce the experimental dispersion. These results can be interpreted as evidence for intermediate $U/t$ and charge fluctuations in the cuprate materials.
We determine magnon spectra of an atomic bilayer magnet with ferromagnetic intra- and both ferro- and anti- ferromagnetic interlayer coupling. Analytic expressions for the full magnon band of the latter case reveal that both exchange interactions govern the fundamental magnon gap. The inter and intralayer magnetic ordering are not independent: the intralayer ferromagnetism stabilizes antiferromagnetic inter-layer order. The topology of these exchange-anisotropy spin models without spin-orbit interaction turns out to be trivial.
The spin wave dispersion relation in both clean and disordered itinerant quantum ferromagnets is calculated. It is found that effects akin to weak-localization physics cause the frequency of the spin-waves to be a nonanalytic function of the magnetization m. For low frequencies Ω, small wavevectors k, and small m, the dispersion relation is found to be of the form Ω~ m^{1-α} k^2, with α= (4-d)/2 (2<d<4) for disordered systems, and α= (3-d) (1<d<3) for clean ones. In d=4 (disordered) and d=3 (clean), Ω~ m ln(1/m) k^2. Experiments to test these predictions are proposed.
We have investigated the field-angle behaviors of magnetic excitations under an in-plane magnetic field for proximate Kitaev systems. By employing the exact diagonalization method in conjunction with the linear spin wave theory, we have demonstrated that the magnetic excitation gap in the polarized phase is determined by the magnon excitation at $M$ points and has a strong anisotropy with respect to the field direction in the vicinity of the critical field limit. The specific heat from this magnon excitation bears qualitatively the same anisotropic behaviors as expected one for the non-Abelian…
Inelastic neutron scattering was used to systematically investigate the spin-wave excitations (magnons) in ferromagnetic manganese perovskites. In spite of the large differences in the Curie temperatures ($T_C$s) of different manganites, their low-temperature spin waves were found to have very similar dispersions with the zone boundary magnon softening. From the wavevector dependence of the magnon lifetime effects and its correlation with the dispersions of the optical phonon modes, we argue that a strong magneto-elastic coupling is responsible for the observed low temperature anomalous spin d…
We present elastic and inelastic neutron scattering data on LaSrFeO$_4$. We confirm the known magnetic structure with the magnetic moments lying in the tetragonal basal plane, but contrarily to previous reports our macroscopic and neutron diffraction data do not reveal any additional magnetic phase transition connected to a spin reorientation or to a redistribution of two irreducible presentations. Our inelastic neutron scattering data reveals the magnon dispersion along the main-symmetry directions [0 $ξ$ 0] and [$ξ$ -$ξ$ 0]. The dispersion can be explained within linear spin-wave theory yiel…
The magnon dispersion of Ca$_2$RuO$_4$ has been studied by polarized and unpolarized neutron scattering experiments on crystals containing 0, 1 and 10 % of Ti. The entire dispersion of transverse magnons can be well described by a conventional spin-wave model with interaction and anisotropy parameters that agree with density functional theory calculations. Spin-orbit coupling strongly influences the magnetic excitations, which is most visible in large energies of the magnetic zone-center modes arising from magnetic anisotropy. We find evidence for a low-lying additional mode that exhibits stro…
We theoretically investigate the microscopic conditions for emergent nonreciprocal magnons toward unified understanding on the basis of a microscopic model analysis. We show that the products of the Bogoliubov Hamiltonian obtained within the linear spin wave approximation is enough to obtain the momentum-space functional form and the key ingredients in the nonreciprocal magnon dispersions in an analytical way even without solving the eigenvalue problems. We find that the odd order of an effective antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and/or the even order of an effective symmetric an…
$α$-RuCl$_3$ has been studied extensively because of its proximity to the Kitaev quantum-spin-liquid (QSL) phase and the possibility of approaching it by tuning the competing interactions. Here we present the first polarized inelastic neutron scattering study on $α$-RuCl$_3$ single crystals to explore the scattering continuum around the $Γ$ point at the Brillouin zone center, which was hypothesized to be resulting from the Kitaev QSL state but without concrete evidence. With polarization analyses, we find that while the spin-wave excitations around the M point vanish above the transition tempe…
Inelastic neutron scattering measurements on Ba(Fe$_{0.963}$Ni$_{0.037}$)$_2$As$_2$ manifest a neutron spin resonance in the superconducting state with anisotropic dispersion within the Fe layer. Whereas the resonance is sharply peaked at Q$_{AFM}$ along the orthorhombic a axis, the resonance disperses upwards away from Q$_{AFM}$ along the b axis. In contrast to the downward dispersing resonance and hour-glass shape of the spin excitations in superconducting cuprates, the resonance in electron-doped BaFe$_2$As$_2$ compounds possesses a magnon-like upwards dispersion.
The notion of a quasiparticle, such as a phonon, a roton, or a magnon, is used in modern condensed matter physics to describe an elementary collective excitation. The intrinsic zero-temperature magnon damping in quantum spin systems can be driven by the interaction of the one-magnon states and multi-magnon continuum. However, detailed experimental studies on this quantum many-body effect induced by an applied magnetic field are rare. Here we present a high-resolution neutron scattering study in high fields on an S=1/2 antiferromagnet C9H18N2CuBr4. Compared with the non-interacting linear spin-…
