CausalML is a Python implementation of algorithms related to causal inference and machine learning. Algorithms combining causal inference and machine learning have been a trending topic in recent years. This package tries to bridge the gap between theoretical work on methodology and practical applications by making a collection of methods in this field available in Python. This paper introduces the key concepts, scope, and use cases of this package.
This paper presents the philosophy, design and feature-set of Neural Network Distiller, an open-source Python package for DNN compression research. Distiller is a library of DNN compression algorithms implementations, with tools, tutorials and sample applications for various learning tasks. Its target users are both engineers and researchers, and the rich content is complemented by a design-for-extensibility to facilitate new research. Distiller is open-source and is available on Github at https://github.com/NervanaSystems/distiller.
We introduce PyChEst, a Python package which provides tools for the simultaneous estimation of multiple changepoints in the distribution of piece-wise stationary time series. The nonparametric algorithms implemented are provably consistent in a general framework: when the samples are generated by unknown piece-wise stationary processes. In this setting, samples may have long-range dependencies of arbitrary form and the finite-dimensional marginals of any (unknown) fixed size before and after the changepoints may be the same. The strength of the algorithms included in the package is in their ab…
We introduce geomstats, a python package that performs computations on manifolds such as hyperspheres, hyperbolic spaces, spaces of symmetric positive definite matrices and Lie groups of transformations. We provide efficient and extensively unit-tested implementations of these manifolds, together with useful Riemannian metrics and associated Exponential and Logarithm maps. The corresponding geodesic distances provide a range of intuitive choices of Machine Learning loss functions. We also give the corresponding Riemannian gradients. The operations implemented in geomstats are available with di…
We introduce GGLasso, a Python package for solving General Graphical Lasso problems. The Graphical Lasso scheme, introduced by (Friedman 2007) (see also (Yuan 2007; Banerjee 2008)), estimates a sparse inverse covariance matrix $Θ$ from multivariate Gaussian data $\mathcal{X} \sim \mathcal{N}(μ, Σ) \in \mathbb{R}^p$. Originally proposed by (Dempster 1972) under the name Covariance Selection, this estimation framework has been extended to include latent variables in (Chandrasekaran 2012). Recent extensions also include the joint estimation of multiple inverse covariance matrices, see, e.g., in (…
The direpack package aims to establish a set of modern statistical dimension reduction techniques into the Python universe as a single, consistent package. The dimension reduction methods included resort into three categories: projection pursuit based dimension reduction, sufficient dimension reduction, and robust M estimators for dimension reduction. As a corollary, regularized regression estimators based on these reduced dimension spaces are provided as well, ranging from classical principal component regression up to sparse partial robust M regression. The package also contains a set of cla…
In this paper we present SurvLIMEpy, an open-source Python package that implements the SurvLIME algorithm. This method allows to compute local feature importance for machine learning algorithms designed for modelling Survival Analysis data. Our implementation takes advantage of the parallelisation paradigm as all computations are performed in a matrix-wise fashion which speeds up execution time. Additionally, SurvLIMEpy assists the user with visualization tools to better understand the result of the algorithm. The package supports a wide variety of survival models, from the Cox Proportional Ha…
Structural equation modelling (SEM) is a multivariate statistical technique for estimating complex relationships between observed and latent variables. Although numerous SEM packages exist, each of them has limitations. Some packages are not free or open-source; the most popular package not having this disadvantage is $\textbf{lavaan}$, but it is written in R language, which is behind current mainstream tendencies that make it harder to be incorporated into developmental pipelines (i.e. bioinformatical ones). Thus we developed the Python package $\textbf{semopy}$ to satisfy those criteria. The…
Shape-constrained nonparametric regression is a growing area in econometrics, statistics, operations research, machine learning and related fields. In the field of productivity and efficiency analysis, recent developments in the multivariate convex regression and related techniques such as convex quantile regression and convex expectile regression have bridged the long-standing gap between the conventional deterministic-nonparametric and stochastic-parametric methods. Unfortunately, the heavy computational burden and the lack of powerful, reliable, and fully open access computational package h…
Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is an umbrella term that includes numerous multivariate statistical techniques that are employed throughout a plethora of research areas, ranging from social to natural sciences. Until recently, SEM software was either commercial or restricted to niche languages, and the lack of SEM packages compatible with more mainstream programming languages was dire. To combat that, we introduced a Python package semopy 1 that surpassed other state-of-the-art software in terms of performance and estimation accuracy. Yet, it was lacking in functionality and its usage was b…
In this research, we provide a comprehensive empirical summary of the Python Package Repository, PyPI, including both package metadata and source code covering 178,592 packages, 1,745,744 releases, 76,997 contributors, and 156,816,750 import statements. We provide counts and trends for packages, releases, dependencies, category classifications, licenses, and package imports, as well as authors, maintainers, and organizations. As one of the largest and oldest software repositories as of publication, PyPI provides insight not just into the Python ecosystem today, but also trends in software deve…
