Multivariate q-Polya and inverse q-Polya distributions

An urn containing specified numbers of balls of distinct ordered colors is considered. A multiple q-Polya urn model is introduced by assuming that the probability of q-drawing a ball of a specific color from the urn varies geometrically, with rate q, both with the number of drawings and the number of balls of the specific color, together with the total number of balls of the preceded colors, drawn in the previous q-drawings. Then, the joint distributions of the numbers of balls of distinct colors drawn (a) in a specific number of q-drawings and (b) until the occurrence of a specific number of balls of a certain color, are derived. These two distributions turned out to be q-analogues of the multivariate Polya and inverse Polya distributions, respectively. Also, the limiting distributions of the multivariate q-Polya and inverse q-Polya distributions, as the initial total number of balls in the urn tends to infinity, are shown to be q-multinomial and negative q-multinomial distributions, respectively.

Gaussian process approximations for multicolor Pólya urn models

Motivated by mathematical tissue growth modelling, we consider the problem of approximating the dynamics of multicolor Pólya urn processes that start with large numbers of balls of different colors and run for a long time. Using strong approximation theorems for empirical and quantile processes, we establish Gaussian process approximations for the Pólya urn processes. Subordination of Hilbert space valued Lévy processes

We generalise multivariate subordination of Lévy processes as introduced by Barndorff-Nielsen, Pedersen, and Sato to Hilbert space valued Lévy processes. The processes are explicitly characterised and conditions for integrability and martingale properties are derived under various assumptions of the Lévy process and subordinator. Exit times for multivariate autoregressive processes

We study exit times from a set for a family of multivariate autoregressive processes with normally distributed noise. By using the large deviation principle, and other methods, we show that the asymptotic behavior of the exit time depends only on the set itself and on the covariance matrix of the stationary distribution of the process. The results are extended to exit times from intervals for the univariate autoregressive process of order n, where the exit time is of the same order of magnitude as the exponential of the inverse of the variance of the stationary distribution.

Moments of inverses of $(m,n,β)$-Laguerre matrices

Wishart matrices are one of the fundamental matrix models in multivariate statistics. We consider the classical $(m,n,β)$-Laguerre ensemble and give a necessary and sufficient condition for finite moments for the inverse of $(m,n,β)$-Laguerre matrices to exist. We extend the result to inverse compound Wishart matrices for the values of $β= 1$ and $2$. Our result complements the result by Letac and Massam [6], Matsumoto [7] and Collins et al. [1].

Explicit formulas for the inverses of Toeplitz matrices, with applications

We derive novel explicit formulas for the inverses of truncated block Toeplitz matrices that correspond to a multivariate minimal stationary process. Approximation and sampling of multivariate probability distributions in the tensor train decomposition

General multivariate distributions are notoriously expensive to sample from, particularly the high-dimensional posterior distributions in PDE-constrained inverse problems. Measures with zeros in the inverse of their moment matrix

We investigate and discuss when the inverse of a multivariate truncated moment matrix of a measure $μ$ has zeros in some prescribed entries. We describe precisely which pattern of these zeroes corresponds to independence, namely, the measure having a product structure. A more refined finding is that the key factor forcing a zero entry in this inverse matrix is a certain conditional triangularity property of the orthogonal polynomials associated with $μ$.
