AdS instability: resonant system for gravitational perturbations of AdS${}_5$ in the cohomogeneity-two biaxial Bianchi IX ansatz

We consider five-dimensional, vacuum Einstein equations with negative cosmological constant within cohomogenity-two biaxial Bianchi IX ansatz. This model allows to investigate the stability of AdS without adding any matter to the energy-momentum tensor, thus analyzing instability of genuine gravtational degrees of freedom. We derive the resonant system and identify vanishing secular terms. The results resemble those obtained for Einstein equations coupled to a spherically-symmetric, massless scalar field, backing the evidence that the scalar field model captures well the relevant features of AdS instability problem. We also list recurrence relations for the interaction coefficients of the resonant system, which might be useful in both numerical simulations and further analytical studies.

Non-diagonal four-dimensional cohomogeneity-one Einstein metrics in various signatures

Most known four-dimensional cohomogeneity-one Einstein metrics are diagonal in the basis defined by the left-invariant one-forms, though some essentially non-diagonal ones are known. We consider the problem of explicitly seeking non-diagonal Einstein metrics, and we find solutions which in some cases exhaust the possibilities. In particular we construct new examples of neutral signature non--diagonal Bianchi type VIII Einstein metrics with self--dual Weyl tensor.

The no-boundary proposal in biaxial Bianchi IX minisuperspace

We implement the no-boundary proposal for the wave function of the universe in an exactly solvable Bianchi IX minisuperspace model with two scale factors. We extend our earlier work (Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 081302, 2018 / arXiv:1804.01102) to include the contribution from the $\mathbb{C}\text{P}^2 \setminus B^4$ topology. The resulting wave function yields normalizable probabilities and thus fits into a predictive framework for semiclassical quantum cosmology. We find that the amplitude is low for large anisotropies. A New Way to Derive the Taub-NUT Metric with Positive Cosmological Constant

We investigate a biaxial Bianchi IX model with positive cosmological constant, which is sometimes called the Lambda-Taub-NUT spacetime, whose exact solution is well known. The minisuperspace of biaxial Bianchi IX models admits two non-trivial Killing tensors that play an important role for deriving the Taub-NUT metric. We also give a brief discussion about the asymptotic behaviour of Bianchi IX models.

Gravitational turbulent instability of AdS${}_5$

We consider the problem of stability of anti-de Sitter spacetime in five dimensions under small purely gravitational perturbations satisfying the cohomogeneity-two biaxial Bianchi IX ansatz. In analogy to spherically symmetric scalar perturbations, we observe numerically a black hole formation on the time-scale $\mathcal{O}(\varepsilon^{-2})$, where $\varepsilon$ is the size of the perturbation.

Einstein-Weyl structures corresponding to diagonal Kähler Bianchi IX metrics

We analyse in a systematic way the four dimensionnal Einstein-Weyl spaces equipped with a diagonal Kähler Bianchi IX metric. In particular, we show that the subclass of Einstein-Weyl structures with a constant conformal scalar curvature is the one with a conformally scalar flat - but not necessarily scalar flat - metric ; we exhibit its 3-parameter distance and Weyl one-form. Remark on non-existence of self-similar solutions in 4+1 vacuum gravitational collapse

We give a very short proof that the vacuum Einstein equations in 4+1 dimensions have no cohomogeneity-two Bianchi IX continuously self-similar solutions.

Global dynamics of asymptotically locally AdS spacetimes with negative mass

The Einstein vacuum equations in five dimensions with negative cosmological constant are studied in biaxial Bianchi IX symmetry. We show that if initial data of Eguchi-Hanson type, modelled after the four-dimensional Riemannian Eguchi-Hanson space, have negative mass, the future maximal development does not contain horizons, i.e. the complement of the causal past of null infinity is empty. Codimension-two critical behavior in vacuum gravitational collapse

We consider the critical behavior at the threshold of black hole formation for the five dimensional vacuum Einstein equations satisfying the cohomogeneity-two triaxial Bianchi IX ansatz. Exploiting a discrete symmetry present in this model we predict the existence of a codimension-two attractor. This prediction is confirmed numerically and the codimension-two attractor is identified as a discretely self-similar solution with two unstable modes.

Nonlinear perturbations of the Kaluza-Klein monopole

We consider the nonlinear stability of the Kaluza-Klein monopole viewed as the static solution of the five dimensional vacuum Einstein equations. Using both numerical and analytical methods we give evidence that the Kaluza-Klein monopole is asymptotically stable within the cohomogeneity-two biaxial Bianchi IX ansatz recently introduced in \cite{bcs}. We also show that for sufficiently large perturbations the Kaluza-Klein monopole loses stability and collapses to a Kaluza-Klein black hole. The relevance of our results for the stability of BPS states in M/String theory is briefly discussed.

An anisotropic, non-singular early universe model leading to a realistic cosmology

We present a novel cosmological model in which scalar field matter in a biaxial Bianchi IX geometry leads to a non-singular `pancaking' solution: the hypersurface volume goes to zero instantaneously at the `Big Bang', but all physical quantities, such as curvature invariants and the matter energy density remain finite, and continue smoothly through the Big Bang.
