An accurate determination of the Higgsstrahlung cross section is one of the main objectives at a future electron-positron collider. It allows for the only Higgs boson decay model independent measurement of the total Higgs width. Current results use the recoil mass shape method. That technique can be applied to Higgsstrahlung events with Z boson decays into muons, into electrons and, with reservations, into quarks. The samples built from Higgsstrahlung events with Z boson decays into taus and neutrinos are not used in previous analyses. We present here a new method, the reference sample method. It extends the recoil mass method to be usable with the tau and neutrino samples as well.
The extension promises a model independent determination of the inclusive Higgsstrahlung cross section with a 2.1-2.2% uncertainty from each of the two ILC polarization scenarios at $\sqrt{s}$=250 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 250 $\mathrm{fb^{-1}}$. This represents an improvement of 20-30% on the accuracy from the application of the new approach without additional data collection.
The precision of the yield measurement of the Higgs boson decaying into a pair of $Z$ bosons process at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) is evaluated. Including the recoil $Z$ boson associated with the Higgs production (Higgsstrahlung) total three $Z$ bosons are involved for this channel, from which final states characterized by the presence of a pair of leptons, quarks, and neutrinos are chosen for the signal. Two analysis approaches are compared and the final precision of $σ_{\mathrm{ZH}}{\cdot}$BR($H \rightarrow ZZ^{*}$) is estimated to be 7.9% using a multivariate analysis te…
BSAURUS is a software package for the inclusive reconstruction of B-hadrons in Z-decay events taken by the DELPHI detector at LEP. The BSAURUS goal is to reconstruct B-decays, by making use of as many properties of b-jets as possible, with high efficiency and good purity. This is achieved by exploiting the capabilities of the DELPHI detector to their extreme, applying wherever possible physics knowledge about B production and decays and combining different information sources with modern tools- mainly artificial neural networks. This note provides a reference of how BSAURUS outputs are formed,…
Single- and double-differential inclusive dijet cross sections in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering have been measured with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 374 pb^-1. The measurement was performed at large values of the photon virtuality, Q^2, between 125 and 20000 GeV^2. The jets were reconstructed with the k_T cluster algorithm in the Breit reference frame and selected by requiring their transverse energies in the Breit frame, E_T,B^jet, to be larger than 8 GeV. In addition, the invariant mass of the dijet system, M_jj, was required to be greater than 20 GeV. T…
We present measurements of Collins asymmetries in the inclusive process e+e- -->pi pi X, where pi stands for charged pions, at a center-of-mass energy of 10.6 GeV. We use a data sample of 468 fb-1 collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B factory at SLAC, and consider pairs of charged pions produced in opposite hemispheres of hadronic events. We observe clear asymmetries in the distributions of the azimuthal angles in two distinct reference frames. We study the dependence of the asymmetry on several kinematic variables, finding that it increases with increasing pion momentum and moment…
Inclusive semileptonic decays of beauty baryons are studied using the heavy quark expansion to ${\cal O}(1/m_b^3)$, at leading order in $α_s$. The case of a polarized decaying baryon is examined, with reference to $Λ_b$. An extension of the Standard Model effective Hamiltonian inducing $b \to U \ell {\bar ν}_ \ell$ transitions ($U=u,\,c$ and $\ell=e,\,μ,\,τ$) is considered, which comprises the full set of D=6 semileptonic operators with left-handed neutrinos. The effects of the new operators in several observables are described.
A selection of recent jet measurements are presented from the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV, focusing on substructure results for inclusive and charmed jets. The groomed jet momentum fractions ($z_g$) of inclusive full jets are shown for various jet resolution parameters, and $z_g$, the groomed splitting radius ($θ_g$) as well as the number of soft drops ($n_{\rm SD}$) of inclusive and charmed charged-particle jets are compared. The first direct measurement of the dead cone in heavy-flavor jets is also presented. Furthermore, the parallel mom…
Jet reconstruction and jet fragmentation variables provide important information to study the interaction between hard scattered partons and the Quark-Gluon Plasma. This paper presents the measurement of the inclusive cross section for fully reconstructed jets in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 2.76 TeV, which provides an essential reference for jet measurements in Pb-Pb collisions at the same sqrt(s_NN). In addition, we report jet fragmentation measurements for charged particle jets in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. These measurements utilize the ALICE central barrel tracking system to detect c…
Inclusive jet production in pPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon (NN) center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s[NN]) = 5.02 TeV is studied with the CMS detector at the LHC. A data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 inverse nanobarns is analyzed. The jet transverse momentum spectra are studied in seven pseudorapidity intervals covering the range -2.0 < eta[CM] < 1.5 in the NN center-of-mass frame. The jet production yields at forward and backward pseudorapidity are compared and no significant asymmetry about eta[CM] = 0 is observed in the measured kinematic range. The measurements in t…
We report on the measurement of the inclusive J/$ψ$ polarization parameters in pp collisions at a center of mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 8$ TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.23 pb$^{-1}$. J/$ψ$ resonances are reconstructed in their di-muon decay channel in the rapidity interval $2.5 < y < 4.0$ and over the transverse-momentum interval $2 < p_{\rm T} < 15$ GeV/$c$. The three polarization parameters ($λ_θ$, $λ_φ$, $λ_{θφ}$) are measured as a function of $p_{\rm T}$ both in the helicity and Collins-Soper refere…
We present a study of the inclusive J/psi cross section at 2.76 TeV and 5.5 TeV. The energy dependence of the cross section, rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are evaluated phenomenologically. Their knowledge is crucial as a reference for the interpretation of A-A and p-A J/psi results at the LHC. Our approach is the following: first, we estimate the energy evolution of the pt-integrated J/psi cross section at mid-rapidity; then, we evaluate the rapidity dependence; finally, we study the transverse momentum distribution trend. Whenever possible, both theory driven (based on pQCD p…
Recent results, obtained by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations, are presented on differential cross sections, for inclusive prompt photon production in DIS and for photoproduction of prompt photons accompanied by a hadronic jet. Also presented are cross sections of normalised scaled momentum distribution of charged final state hadrons, measured by H1 in DIS $ep$ collisions at high $Q^2$ in the Breit frame of reference.
A measurement of inclusive, prompt, and non-prompt ${\rm J}/ψ$ production in p$-$Pb collisions at a nucleon$-$nucleon centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV is presented. The inclusive ${\rm J}/ψ$ mesons are reconstructed in the dielectron decay channel at midrapidity down to a transverse momentum $p_{\rm T} = 0$. The inclusive ${\rm J}/ψ$ nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm pPb}$ is calculated by comparing the new results in p$-$Pb collisions to a recently measured proton$-$proton reference at the same centre-of-mass energy. Non-prompt ${\rm J}/ψ$ mesons, which originate fr…
We compute inclusive electron-nucleus cross sections using ab initio spectral functions of $^4$He and $^{16}$O obtained within the Self Consistent Green's Function approach. The formalism adopted is based on the factorization of the spectral function and the nuclear transition matrix elements. This allows to provide an accurate description of nuclear dynamics and to account for relativistic effects in the interaction vertex. Our calculations use a saturating chiral Hamiltonian in order reproduce the correct nuclear sizes. When final state interactions for the struck particle are accounted for,…
The first measurements of the production of muons and electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.44 TeV, using the ALICE detector at the LHC, are reported. The measurement of the nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm AA}$ is performed as a function of transverse momentum $p_{\rm T}$ in several centrality classes at forward rapidity ($2.5 < y <4$) and midrapidity ($\vert y \vert < 0.8$) for muons and electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays, respectively. A suppression by a factor up to about 2.5 compared to the binary-scaled pp reference is observ…
The electromagnetic responses obtained from Green's function Monte Carlo (GFMC) calculations are based on realistic treatments of nuclear interactions and currents. The main limitations of this method comes from its nonrelativistic nature and its computational cost, the latter hampering the direct evaluation of the inclusive cross sections as measured by experiments. We extend the applicability of GFMC in the quasielastic region to intermediate momentum transfers by performing the calculations in a reference frame that minimizes nucleon momenta. Additional relativistic effects in the kinematic…
The world experimental data on cross section and kinematic distribution in $p+p$ and $p+A$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 6.8 - 7000 GeV are examined in systematic way. The $\sqrt{s}$ dependence of the inclusive cross section, rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are studied phenomenologically. We explore empirical formulas to obtain the total cross section, rapidity and transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) distribution. This is crucial for the interpretation of A$+$A $J/ψ$ results at RHIC when the $p+p$ reference data are not available. In addition, the cross section at mid-rapidity and transv…
Measurements of fiducial integrated and differential cross sections for inclusive $W^+$, $W^-$ and $Z$ boson production are reported. They are based on $25.0 \pm 0.5$ pb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data at $\sqrt{s} = 5.02$ TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Electron and muon decay channels are analysed, and the combined $W^+$, $W^-$ and $Z$ integrated cross sections are found to be $σ_{W^+}$ = 2266 $\pm$ 9 (stat) $\pm$ 29 (syst) $\pm$ 43 (lumi) pb, $σ_{W^-}$ = 1401 $\pm$ 7 (stat) $\pm$ 18 (syst) $\pm$ 27 (lumi) pb, and $σ_Z$ = 374.5 $\pm$ 3.4 (stat) $\pm$ 3.…
We present the computational framework MATRIX which allows us to evaluate fully differential cross sections for a wide class of processes at hadron colliders in next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD. The processes we consider are $2\to 1$ and $2\to 2$ hadronic reactions involving Higgs and vector bosons in the final state. All possible leptonic decay channels of the vector bosons are included for the first time in the calculations, by consistently accounting for all resonant and non-resonant diagrams, off-shell effects and spin correlations. We briefly introduce the theoretical framework MA…
We report on new measurements of inclusive J/$ψ$ polarization at mid-rapidity in p+p collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The polarization parameters, $λ_θ$, $λ_ϕ$, and $λ_{θϕ}$, are measured as a function of transverse momentum ($p_T$) in both the Helicity and Collins-Soper (CS) reference frames within $p_T< 10$ GeV/$C$. Except for $λ_θ$ in the CS frame at the highest measured $p_T$, all three polarization parameters are consistent with 0 in both reference frames without any strong $p_T$ dependence. Several model calculations are compared with data, and the one u…

We report a new measurement of the production cross section for inclusive electrons from open heavy-flavor hadron decays as a function of transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) at mid-rapidity ($|y|<$ 0.7) in $p$+$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 200$ GeV. The result is presented for 2.5 $<p_{\rm T}<$ 10 GeV/$c$ with an improved precision above 6 GeV/$c$ with respect to the previous measurements, providing more constraints on perturbative QCD calculations. Moreover, this measurement also provides a high-precision reference for measurements of nuclear modification factors for inclusive electrons from op…
