Magnetized color flavor locked state and compact stars

The stability of the color flavor locked phase in the presence of a strong magnetic field is investigated within the phenomenological MIT bag model, taking into account the variation of the strange quark mass, the baryon density, the magnetic field, as well as the bag and gap parameters. It is found that the minimum value of the energy per baryon in a color flavor locked state at vanishing pressure is lower than the corresponding one for unpaired magnetized strange quark matter and, as the magnetic field increases, the energy per baryon decreases. Axial Anomaly and Chiral Asymmetry in Magnetized Relativistic Matter

The generation of a chiral shift parameter in the normal ground state of magnetized relativistic matter is discussed. The chiral shift contributes to the axial current density, but does not modify the conventional axial anomaly relation. The analysis based on gauge invariant regularization schemes suggests that this finding is also valid in gauge theories. We argue that the chiral shift parameter can affect observable properties of compact stars. In the regime of heavy ion collisions, the chiral shift parameter can modify the key features of the chiral magnetic effect.

We study the propagation of neutrinos from compact astrophysical objects with strong magnetic field, such as magnetars. Both neutrino spin rotation and oscillations in a realistic three-flavor model are taken into account. We solve the neutrino evolution equation in the magnetic field near the object and obtain the probabilities of all possible spin-flavor transitions. It has a point-like Fermi surface, which is very sensitive to external potentials. Expulsion of Magnetic Flux Lines from the Growing Superconducting Core of a Magnetized Quark Star

The expulsion of magnetic flux lines from a growing superconducting core of a quark star has been investigated. The idea of impurity diffusion in molten alloys and an identical mechanism of baryon number transport from hot quark-gluon-plasma phase to hadronic phase during quark-hadron phase transition in the early universe, micro-second after big bang has been used. The possibility of Mullins-Sekerka normal-superconducting interface instability has also been studied.

Cold magnetized quark matter phase diagram within a generalized SU(2) NJL model

We study the effect of intense magnetic fields on the phase diagram of cold, strongly interacting matter within an extended version of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model that includes flavor mixing effects and vector interactions. Different values of the relevant model parameters in acceptable ranges are considered. Charge neutrality and beta equilibrium effects, which are specially relevant to the study of compact stars, are also taken into account. In this case the behavior of leptons is discussed.

Towards the stabilization of extra dimensions by brane dynamics

All the models of elementary particles and their interactions derived from String Theory involve a compact six-dimensional internal space. Its volume and shape should be fixed or stabilized, since otherwise massless scalar fields (moduli) reflecting their deformations appear in our four-dimensional space-time, with sizable effects on known particles and fields.
