Many interactive image segmentation techniques are based on semi-supervised learning. The user may label some pixels from each object and the SSL algorithm will propagate the labels from the labeled to the unlabeled pixels, finding object boundaries. This paper proposes a new SSL graph-based interactive image segmentation approach, using undirected and unweighted kNN graphs, from which the unlabeled nodes receive contributions from other nodes (either labeled or unlabeled). It is simpler than many other techniques, but it still achieves significant classification accuracy in the image segmentation task. Computer simulations are performed using some real-world images, extracted from the Microsoft GrabCut dataset. The segmentation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
The central goal of this paper is to establish two commonly available dimensionality reduction (DR) methods i.e. t-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE) and Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) in Matlab and to observe their application in several datasets. These DR techniques are applied to nine different datasets namely CNAE9, Segmentation, Seeds, Pima Indians diabetes, Parkinsons, Movement Libras, Mammographic Masses, Knowledge, and Ionosphere acquired from UCI machine learning repository. By applying t-SNE and MDS algorithms, each dataset is transformed to the half of its original di…

Nearest neighbor (kNN) methods utilizing deep pre-trained features exhibit very strong anomaly detection performance when applied to entire images. A limitation of kNN methods is the lack of segmentation map describing where the anomaly lies inside the image. In this work we present a novel anomaly segmentation approach based on alignment between an anomalous image and a constant number of the similar normal images. Our method, Semantic Pyramid Anomaly Detection (SPADE) uses correspondences based on a multi-resolution feature pyramid. SPADE is shown to achieve state-of-the-art performance on u…

Medical image segmentation is one of the fundamental problems for artificial intelligence-based clinical decision systems. Current automatic medical image segmentation methods are often failed to meet clinical requirements. As such, a series of interactive segmentation algorithms are proposed to utilize expert correction information. However, existing methods suffer from some segmentation refining failure problems after long-term interactions and some cost problems from expert annotation, which hinder clinical applications. This paper proposes an interactive segmentation framework, called inte…
Interpretability has attracted increasing attention in earth observation problems. We apply interactive visualization and representation analysis to guide interpretation of glacier segmentation models. We visualize the activations from a U-Net to understand and evaluate the model performance. We build an online interface using the Shiny R package to provide comprehensive error analysis of the predictions. Users can interact with the panels and discover model failure modes. Further, we discuss how visualization can provide sanity checks during data preprocessing and model training.

The central aim of this paper is to implement Deep Autoencoder and Neighborhood Components Analysis (NCA) dimensionality reduction methods in Matlab and to observe the application of these algorithms on nine unlike datasets from UCI machine learning repository. These datasets are CNAE9, Movement Libras, Pima Indians diabetes, Parkinsons, Knowledge, Segmentation, Seeds, Mammographic Masses, and Ionosphere. First of all, the dimension of these datasets has been reduced to fifty percent of their original dimension by selecting and extracting the most relevant and appropriate features or attribute…

For complex segmentation tasks, the achievable accuracy of fully automated systems is inherently limited. Specifically, when a precise segmentation result is desired for a small amount of given data sets, semi-automatic methods exhibit a clear benefit for the user. The optimization of human computer interaction (HCI) is an essential part of interactive image segmentation. Nevertheless, publications introducing novel interactive segmentation systems (ISS) often lack an objective comparison of HCI aspects. It is demonstrated, that even when the underlying segmentation algorithm is the same throu…
We provide a high fidelity deep learning algorithm (HyperSeg) for interactive video segmentation tasks using a convolutional network with context-aware skip connections, and compressed, hypercolumn image features combined with a convolutional tessellation procedure. In order to maintain high output fidelity, our model crucially processes and renders all image features in high resolution, without utilizing downsampling or pooling procedures. We maintain this consistent, high grade fidelity efficiently in our model chiefly through two means: (1) We use a statistically-principled tensor decomposi…
The popularity of Artificial intelligence and machine learning have prompted researchers to use it in the recent researches. The proposed method uses K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm for segmentation of medical images, extracting of image features for analysis by classifying the data based on the neural networks. For complex segmentation tasks, fully automatic systems are inherently limited in their achievable accuracy for extracting relevant objects. Especially in cases where only few data sets need to be processed for a highly accurate result, semi-automatic segmentation techniques exhibit a clear benefit for the user. One area of application is medical image processing during an intervention for a single patient. We propose a learning-based cooperative segmentation approach which includes the computing entity as well as the user into the task. Our system builds upon a state-of-the-art fully convolut…
We provide a probabilistic interpretation of attention and show that the standard dot-product attention in transformers is a special case of Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) inference. The proposed approach suggests the use of Expectation Maximization algorithms for online adaptation of key and value model parameters. This approach is useful for cases in which external agents, e.g., annotators, provide inference-time information about the correct values of some tokens, e.g, the semantic category of some pixels, and we need for this new information to propagate to other tokens in a principled manner.…
