We study the rapidity dependence of the cross section on the rapidity of the central exclusive production cross sections of C-even mesons in $pA$ and $AA$ collisions, where $A$ is a heavy ion. We observe qualitatively different behaviour of the contributions arising from $γ$-Odderon and Pomeron-Pomeron fusion mechanisms. This can be used to extract the Odderon signal from the events of $f_2$ mesons exclusively produced in the forward region. Estimates, obtained using expected values of the Odderon cross section, indicate that the $γ$-Odderon contribution may exceed by a few times the Pomeron-induced background in Pb-Pb collisions. Moreover, the Odderon effect can be clearly seen in terms of the asymmetry in $pA$ and $AA$ collisions with the beam and target reversed. It is particularly interesting to note that the asymmetry for $γ$-Odderon fusion reaches its maximum value close to 1 in the forward direction, whereas the asymmetry for the Pomeron-Pomeron fusion contribution is small. The role of additional interactions of the $f_2$ meson with nucleons in the heavy ion, and also the contributions from secondary Reggeons, are estimated. The photon-Odderon contribution has a large normalisation uncertainty but the enhances cross-section in the forward region combined with a large asymmetry increases the chance of experimentally detecting the Odderon.
We briefly present the QCD based calculation of exclusive J/psi production via pomeron-odderon fusion in proton-antiproton collisions. For the Tevatron energy the differential cross section dsigma/dy(y=0) is estimated to be around 1 nb.
We discuss the production of two pion pairs in photon collisions at high energies. We calculate the according matrix elements in k_T-factorization and discuss the possibility to reveal the existence of the perturbative Odderon by charge asymmetries.
We estimate the production of two meson pairs in high energy photon photon collisions produced in ultraperipheral collisions at LHC. We show that the study of charge asymmetries may reveal the existence of the perturbative Odderon and discuss the concrete event rates expected at the LHC. Sizable rates and asymmetries are expected in the case of proton-proton collisions and medium values of gamma-gamma energies \sqrt{s_{γγ}} \approx 20GeV. Proton-proton collisions will benefit from a high rate due to a large effective gamma-gamma luminosity and ion-ion collisions with a somewhat lower rate from…
We consider the possible contribution of Odderon (Reggeon with alpha_(Odd)(0) similar to 1 and negative signature) exchange to the differences in the total cross sections of particle and antiparticle, to the ratios of real/imaginary parts of the elastic pp amplitude, and to the differences in the inclusive spectra of particle and antiparticle in the central region. The experimental differences in total cross sections of particle and antiparticle are compatible with the existence of the Odderon component but such a large Odderon contribution seems to be inconsistent with the values of Re/Im rat…
We review some selected results of the tensor-pomeron and vector-odderon model of soft high-energy proton-proton scattering and central exclusive production of meson and baryon pairs in proton-proton collisions. We discuss the theoretical aspects of this approach and consider the phenomenological implications in a variety of processes at high energies, comparing to existing experimental data. We consider the diffractive dipion and dikaon production including the continuum and the dominant scalar and tensor resonance contributions as well as the photoproduction processes. The theoretical result…
We discuss the production of two pion pairs in photon collisions at high energies as it can take place in ultraperipheral collisions at hadron colliders such as the LHC. We calculate the according matrix elements in kT factorization and discuss the possibility to reveal the existence of the perturbative Odderon by charge asymmetries.
The reactions gamma-gamma to eta_c eta_c and gamma gamma to eta_c + X are discussed within the three gluon exchange model. We give predictions for the differential cross-sections and discuss feasibility of measuring these processes at LEP2 and TESLA. The total cross-sections were estimated to be approximately equal to 40 fb and 120 fb for gamma-gamma to eta_c eta_c and gamma-gamma to eta_c + X respectively assuming exchange of elementary gluons that corresponds to the odderon with intercept equal to unity. These values can be enhanced by a factor equal to 1.9 and 2.1 for LEP2 and TESLA energie…
We explore the possibility of observing Odderon exchange in proton--ion collisions at the LHC, via the ultraperipheral photoproduction of C-even mesons. As well as the signal, we consider in detail the principle backgrounds, due to QCD--initiated production (i.e. double Pomeron exchange) and $γγ$ fusion. We find that while the photon--initiated background is dominant at very small momentum transfer, this can be effectively removed by placing a reasonable cut on the transverse momentum of the produced meson. In the case of QCD--initiated production, we show this is in general strongly suppresse…
We propose to look for the Odderon through the production of two pion pairs in photon collisions at high energies. We calculate the corresponding matrix elements in kT-factorization and discuss the possibility to reveal the existence of the perturbative Odderon by charge asymmetries, relying on models for the generalized distribution amplitudes of pi+ pi-. The application of this strategy to ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC suffers from the difficulty to trigger on interesting events and is plagued with severe background problems in p-p mode. Electron - positron colliders like ILC seem to…
In this contribution we discuss the production of two pion pairs in high energy photon collisions as they can be produced in ultraperipheral collisions at hadron colliders such as the Tevatron, RHIC or LHC. We find that charge asymmetries may reveal the existence of the perturbative Odderon.
Phenomenological studies of odderon effects are shortly reviewed. Special emphasis is devoted to a recent study of the exclusive production of J/psi or Upsilon in pp and bar p p collisions, where the meson emerges from the pomeron--odderon and the pomeron--photon fusion.
We study the exclusive production of J/psi or Upsilon in pp and bar pp collisions, where the meson emerges from the pomeron--odderon and the pomeron--photon fusion. We estimate the cross sections for these processes for the kinematical conditions of the Tevatron and of the LHC.
We study pp and p\bar p collisions which lead to the exclusive production of J/psi or Upsilon from the pomeron-odderon and the pomeron-photon fusion. We calculate scattering amplitudes of these processes in the lowest order approximation and in the framework of k_T factorization. We present estimates of cross sections for the kinematic conditions of the Tevatron and of the LHC.
Although the Odderon is an unambiguous prediction of Quantum Chromodynamics, its existence still was not confirmed experimentally. One of the processes where the Odderon contribution is expected to be dominant is the diffractive photoproduction of tensor mesons. In this paper we study the diffractive $f_2(1270)$ photoproduction in $pA$ collisions at LHC and RHIC considering the model of the stochastic vacuum to treat the non - perturbative process. We demonstrate that this process dominates the $f_2$ production at mid - rapidities, and large values for the cross section are predicted. Our resu…
We consider the first LHC data for pp collisions in the framework of Regge theory. The integral cross sections and inclusive densities of secondaries are determined by the Pomeron exchange, and we present the corresponding predictions for them. The first measurements of inclusive densities in midrapidity region are in agreement with these predictions. The possible contribution of Odderon (Reggeon with alpha(Odd)(0) ~ 1 and negative signature) exchange to the differences in the inclusive spectra of particle and antiparticle in the central region could be significant at LHC energies. The first d…
Single-spin asymmetry appears due to the interference of single and double gluon exchange between protons. A heavy fermion model is used to describe the jet production in the interaction of gluon with the proton implying the further averaging over its mass. As usually in one-spin correlations, the imaginary part of the double gluon exchange amplitude play the relevant role. The asymmetry in the inclusive set-up with the pion tagged in the fragmentation region of the polarized proton does not depend on the center of mass energy in the limits of its large values. The lowest order radiative corre…
The unitarily extended Bialas-Bzdak model of elastic proton-proton scattering is applied, without modifications, to describe the differential cross-section of elastic proton-antiproton collisions in the TeV energy range, and to extrapolate these differential cross-sections to LHC energies. In this model-dependent study we find that the differential cross-sections of elastic proton-proton collision data at 2.76 and 7 TeV energies differ significantly from the differential cross-section of elastic proton-antiproton collisions extrapolated to these energies. The elastic proton-proton differential…
Based on the AdS/CFT correspondence, we present a holographic description of various C-odd exchanges in high energy baryon-baryon and baryon-antibaryon scattering, and calculate their respective contributions to the difference in the total cross sections. We predict that, due to the warp factor of AdS_5, the total cross section in pp collisions is larger than in p\bar{p} collisions at asymptotically high energies.
One of the open questions of the strong interaction theory is the existence of the Odderon, which is an unambiguous prediction of Quantum Chromodynamics, but still not confirmed experimentally. An alternative to probe the Odderon is the exclusive $η_c$ photoproduction in hadronic collisions. As the Pomeron exchange cannot contribute to this process, its observation would indicate the existence of the Odderon. In this paper we estimate the $η_c$ production in photon - induced interactions in hadronic collisions at the AFTER@LHC experiment. We demonstrate that the experimental analysis of this p…
We discuss the possibility to use the $pp \to pp ϕϕ$ process in identifying the odderon exchange. So far there is no unambiguous experimental evidence for the odderon, the charge conjugation $C = -1$ counterpart of the $C= +1$ pomeron. Last year results of the TOTEM collaboration suggest that the odderon exchange can be responsible for a disagreement of theoretical calculations and the TOTEM data for elastic proton-proton scattering. Here we present recent studies for central exclusive production (CEP) of $ϕϕ$ pairs in proton-proton collisions. We consider the pomeron-pomeron fusion to $ϕϕ$ ($…
We compute the transverse single spin asymmetry in forward $p^\uparrow p \to hX$ and $p^\uparrow A \to hX$ collisions from the odderon mechanism originally suggested by Kovchegov and Sievert [1]. Working in the hybrid approach of the Color Glass Condensate effective theory we firstly identify the relevant collinear parton distribution function (PDF) of the transversely polarized proton $p^\uparrow$ as the intrinsic twist-3 $g_T(x)$ distribution. We further argue that the complete polarized cross section also contains contributions from the kinematical and the dynamical twist-3 PDFs, in additio…
The transverse single-spin asymmetry A_N observed in high energy proton-proton collisions p^\uparrow p \to pi X has been found to increase with the momentum fraction x_F of the pion up to the largest measured x_F \sim 0.8, where A_N \simeq 40%. We consider the possibility that the asymmetry is due to a non-perturbatively generated spin-flip coupling in soft rescattering on the target proton. We demonstrate using perturbation theory that a non-vanishing asymmetry can be generated through interference between exchanges of even and odd charge conjugation provided both helicity flip and non-flip c…
One of the open questions of the strong interaction theory is the existence of the Odderon, which is an unambiguous prediction of Quantum Chromodynamics, but still not confirmed in the experiment. In this paper we propose the study of the diffractive $η_c$ photoproduction in coherent interactions as a new alternative to probe the Odderon in $pp$ and $PbPb$ collisions at CERN - LHC. As the Pomeron exchange cannot contribute to this process, its observation would indicate the existence of the Odderon. We predict total cross sections of order of $pb \, (μb)$ for $pp \, (PbPb)$ collisions and larg…
We describe a new and model-independent Lévy imaging method of quality fits to the published datasets and reconstruct the amplitude of high-energy $pp$ and $p\bar p$ elastic scattering processes. This method allows us to determine the excitation function of the shadow profile $P(b)$, the elastic slope $B(t)$ and the nuclear phase $ϕ(t)$ functions of $pp$ and $p\bar p$ collisions directly from the data. Surprisingly, notable qualitative differences in $B(t)$ for $pp$ and for $p\bar p$ collisions point towards an Odderon effect. As a by-product, we clearly identify the proton substructure with t…
We show that in the Mclerran-Venugopalan model, an axial asymmetrical valence quark distributions in the transverse plane of a transversely polarized proton can give rise to a spin dependent odderon. Such polarized odderon is responsible for the transverse single spin asymmetries(SSAs) for jet production in the backward region of pp collisions and open charm production in semi-inclusive DIS process.

High intensity back-scattered laser beams will allow the efficient conversion of a substantial fraction of the incident lepton energy into high energy photons, thus significantly extending the physics capabilities of an electron-electron or electron-positron linear collider. The annihilation of two photons produces C=+ final states in virtually all angular momentum states. The annihilation of polarized photons into the Higgs boson determines its fundamental two-photon coupling as well as determining its parity. Other novel two-photon processes include the two-photon production of charged lepto…
We present a study of the exclusive $pp \to pp K^{+} K^{-} K^{+} K^{-}$ reaction at high energies. We consider diffractive mechanisms with the intermediate $ϕϕ$ state with its decay into the $K^{+} K^{-} K^{+} K^{-}$ system. We include the $ϕ(1020)$ $\hat{t}/\hat{u}$-channel exchanges and the $f_{2}(2340)$ $s$-channel exchange mechanism. This $f_{2}$ state is a candidate for a tensor glueball. We discuss the possibility to use the $pp \to pp ϕϕ$ process in identifying the odderon exchange. An upper limit for the $\mathbb{P} \mathbb{O} ϕ$ coupling is extracted from the WA102 experimental data. …
Within the framework of a simple model, we study single-spin asymmetries for pion production in hadron-hadron collisions at high-energies with one hadron polarised. The asymmetries are generated via a mechanism of final (initial) state interactions. For peripheral kinematics, when the pion belongs to the fragmentation region of the polarised proton, we find non-zero asymmetries in the high-energy limit. Numerical results and comparision with existing experimental data are presented. We also discuss the relationship with odderon exchange phenomenology.
In this letter we demonstrate that a model which is based on the CGC/saturation approach, is able to describe soft interaction collisions for the wide range of $W=\sqrt{s} = 30 \,GeV ÷\, 13 \,TeV$ including the new TOTEM data at 13 TeV. We have incorporated the secondary Reggeons in our approach which enables us to describe the complete set of the soft data, including the energy behaviour of $ρ$ the ratio of the real to imaginary parts of the elastic scattering amplitude. We argue that it is premature to claim that an odderon contribution is necessary, but estimate its possible strength as $1 …
We analyze the differences between the $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ differentia l elastic cross section measurements by the D0 and TOTEM Collaborations at the Tevatron, Fermilab, and the LHC, CERN that lead to a significance larger than 3$σ$ of the existence of the colourless $C$-odd three-gluon state, the odderon.
We present a simple model for generating initial-state azimuthal asymmetries in pA collisions from dipole scattering on an anisotropic dense target. Parity even angular harmonics arise from the C-even real part of the dipole S-matrix which spontaneously breaks rotational symmetry in two dimensions due to a condensate for the color electric field. This leads to an angular correlation with the direction of $\vec E$. Parity odd harmonics are generated by the C-odd imaginary part (odderon) due to coupling to coherent target fluctuations which again break rotational invariance. We perform a first q…
We present a study of exclusive production of $π^{0}$ meson in proton-proton collisions at high energies. Both diffractive bremsstrahlung (Drell-Hiida-Deck type model), photon-photon, photon-omega and photon-odderon exchange mechanisms are included in the calculation. The $π^{0}$-bremsstrahlung contribution dominates at large (forward, backward) pion rapidities and contributes at small $π^0 p$ invariant mass and could be therefore misinterpreted as the Roper resonance $N^{*}(1440)$. Large cross sections of the order of mb are predicted. We predict strong dependence of the slope in $t$ (squared…
We calculate the cross section of diffractive charge-parity C=+1 neutral meson production in virtual photon proton collision at high energies. Due to the opposite C-parities of photon and meson M (M = eta_C, pi^0, a_2) this process probes the t-channel C=-1 odderon exchange which is described here as noninteracting three-gluon exchange. Estimates for the cross section of the inelastic diffractive process gamma^* p -> eta_C X_p are presented. The total cross section of diffractive η_C meson photoproduction is found to be 47 pb. The cross sections for the diffractive production of light mesons (…
The central diffractive production of mesons f0(980) and f2(1270) at the energy of CERN-LHC experiment on proton-proton collisions is investigated. The processes initiated by quasi-real photon-photon collisions and by central diffraction processes are considered. The role played by the photon-Odderon production channel is also studied. The cross sections for these distinct production channels are compared and analyzed.
We discuss the reaction $e p \to e \tilde{p} X$ in the one-photon exchange approximation, where it is in essence the reaction $γ^{*} p \to \tilde{p} X$. A large rapidity gap is required between the particle or particles of the proton remnant $\tilde{p}$ and those of $X$. We define a suitable azimuthal angle $φ$ between a leptonic and a hadronic plane. The dependence of the cross section on $φ$ is given explicitly and can be used to extract cross sections and interference terms for the reaction $γ^{*} p \to \tilde{p} X$ corresponding to the various helicities of the virtual photon $γ^{*}$. The …
We investigate the potentialities offered by the study of lepton-pair production in ultraperipheral collisions at a fixed-target experiment using the proton and ion LHC beams. In these collisions, exclusive or semi-exclusive lepton-pair production can be used as luminosity monitor as well as a check of the equivalent-photon approximation, via the measurement of the Bethe-Heitler cross section. It can also serve as a probe of the inner hadron structure via the measurement of the lepton-pair azimuthal asymmetry which is sensitive to the timelike virtual Compton scattering. We also briefly discus…
In this paper we investigate the $η_c$ production by photon - photon and photon - hadron interactions in $pp$ and $pA$ collisions at the LHC energies. The inclusive and diffractive contributions for the $η_c$ photoproduction are estimated using the nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD) formalism. We estimate the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions for the $η_c$ photoproduction in hadronic collisions at the LHC and present our estimate for the total cross sections at the Run 2 energies. A comparison with the predictions for the exclusive $η_c$ photoproduction, which is a dir…
We consider the central exclusive production of the $p\bar{p}$ in the continuum and via resonances in proton-proton collisions at high energies. We discuss the diffractive mechanism calculated within the tensor-pomeron approach including pomeron, odderon, and reggeon exchanges. The theoretical results are discussed in the context of existing WA102 and ISR experimental data and predictions for planned or current experiments at the RHIC and the LHC are presented. The distribution in ${\rm y}_{diff}$, the rapidity distance between proton and antiproton, is particularly interesting. We find a dip …
The local nuclear slope $B(s,t) = {d \over d t} (\ln {dσ_n (s,t)\over dt})$ is reconstructed from the experimental angular distributions with a procedure that uses overlapping $t$-bins, for an energy that ranges from the ISR to the $S\bar ppS$ and the Tevatron. Predictions of several models of ($p,p$) and ($\bar p,p$) elastic scattering at high energy are tested in $B(s,t)$ at small $|t|$. Only a model with two-components Pomeron and Odderon gives a satisfactory agreement with the (non fitted) slope data, in particular for the evolution of $B(s,t)$ with $s$ as a function of $t$ in $\bar pp$ sc…
We propose a new mechanism for generating a single transverse spin asymmetry (STSA) in polarized proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions in the high-energy scattering approximation. In this framework the STSA originates from the q->q G splitting in the projectile (proton) light-cone wave function followed by a perturbative (C-odd) odderon interaction, together with a C-even interaction, between the projectile and the target. We show that some aspects of the obtained expression for the STSA of the produced quarks are in qualitative agreement with experiment: STSA decreases with decreasing p…
In this talk I discuss the antenna subtraction method for isolating infrared (IR) singularities of jet cross sections in perturbative QCD. The method is applied at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) to dijet production in hadron collisions at the LHC. The double real radiative corrections to the dijet cross section are considered and their IR behaviour is examined. IR subtraction terms are constructed to absorb numerical divergences of the cross section in the single and double unresolved regions of phase space using the antenna subtraction method. A pictorial representation of matrix elemen…
We discuss diffractive processes in proton-proton collisions at small momentum transfers without and with photon radiation. We consider the soft exclusive reactions $pp \to pp$, $p\bar{p} \to p\bar{p}$, and $pp \to pp γ$ within the tensor-pomeron and vector-odderon approach. We compare our results with the data for $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ total cross sections, for the ratio of real to imaginary part of the forward scattering amplitude, and for the elastic $pp$ cross sections, especially those from TOTEM. To describe the low-energy data more accurately the secondary reggeons must be included. We wr…
We present the first steps in an effort to incorporate the physics of transverse spin asymmetries into the saturation formalism of high energy QCD. We consider a simple model in which a transversely polarized quark scatters on a proton or nuclear target. Using the light-cone perturbation theory the hadron production cross section can be written as a convolution of the light-cone wave function squared and the interaction with the target. To generate the single transverse spin asymmetry (STSA) either the wave function squared or the interaction with the target has to be T-odd. In this work we us…
High-multiplicity pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies have created special importance in view of the Underlying Event (UE) observables. The recent results of LHC, such as long range angular correlation, flow-like patterns, strangeness enhancement etc. in high multiplicity events are not yet completely understood. In the same direction, the understanding of multiplicity dependence of J/$ψ$ production is highly necessary. Transverse spherocity, which is an event shape variable, helps to investigate the particle production by isolating the hard and the soft components. In th…
