Local supersymmetry (SUSY) provides an attractive framework for the incorporation of gravity and unification of gauge interactions within Grand Unified Theories (GUTs). Its breakdown can lead to a variety of models with softly broken SUSY at low energies. In this review article we focus on the SUSY extension of the Standard Model (SM) with an extra U(1)_{N} gauge symmetry originating from a string-inspired E_6 grand unified gauge group. Only in this U(1) extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) inspired by E_6 GUTs the right-handed neutrinos can be superheavy providing a mechanism for the generation of the lepton and baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The particle content of this exceptional supersymmetric standard model (E_6SSM) includes three 27 representations of the E_6 group, to ensure anomaly cancellation, plus a pair of SU(2)_W doublets as required for gauge coupling unification. Thus E_6SSM involves extra exotic matter beyond the MSSM. We consider symmetries that permit to suppress non-diagonal flavour transitions and rapid proton decay, as well as gauge coupling unification, the breakdown of the gauge symmetry and the spectrum of Higgs bosons in this model. The possible Large Hadron Collider (LHC) signatures caused by the presence of exotic states are also discussed.
We begin an investigation of supersymmetric theories based on exceptional groups. The flat directions are most easily parameterized using their correspondence with gauge invariant polynomials. Symmetries and holomorphy tightly constrain the superpotentials, but due to multiple gauge invariants other techniques are needed for their full determination. We give an explicit treatment of $G_2$ and find gaugino condensation for $N_f\leq 2$, and an instanton generated superpotential for $N_f=3$. The analogy with $SU(N_c)$ gauge theories continues with modified and unmodified quantum moduli spaces for…
We study electroweak baryogenesis in the E_6 inspired exceptional supersymmetric standard model ( E_6SSM ). The relaxation coefficients driven by singlinos and the new gaugino as well as the transport equation of the Higgs supermultiplet number density in the E_6SSM are calculated. Our numerical simulation shows that both CP-violating source terms from singlinos and the new gaugino can solely give rise to a correct baryon asymmetry of the Universe via the electroweak baryogenesis mechanism.
We discuss the spectrum of Higgs bosons in the framework of the exceptional supersymmetric standard model. The presence of a $Z'$ and exotic particles predicted by the exceptional SUSY model allows the lightest Higgs particle to be significantly heavier than in the MSSM and NMSSM. When the mass of the lightest Higgs boson is larger than $135-140 {GeV}$ the heaviest scalar, pseudoscalar and charged Higgs states lie beyond the ${TeV}$ range.
Supersymmetric unified models in which the Z' couples to the Higgs doublets, as in the E6 class of models, have large fine tuning dominated by the experimental mass limit on the Z'. To illustrate this we investigate the degree of fine tuning throughout the parameter space of the Constrained Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (cE6SSM) that is consistent with a Higgs mass m_h ~ 125 GeV. Fixing tan beta = 10, and taking specific values of the mass of the Z' boson, with M_Z' ~ 2-4 TeV. We find that the minimum fine tuning is set predominantly from the mass of Z' and varies from ~ 200-400 as…
We consider the renormalisation group flow of gauge couplings within the so-called exceptional supersymmetric standard model (E$_6$SSM) based on the low energy matter content of 27 dimensional representations of the gauge group $E_6$, together with two additional non-Higgs doublets. The two--loop beta functions are computed, and the threshold corrections are studied in the E$_6$SSM. Our results show that gauge coupling unification in the E$_6$SSM can be achieved for phenomenologically acceptable values of $α_3(M_Z)$, consistent with the central measured low energy value, unlike in the minimal …
In this paper we explain the diphoton excess in the invariant mass M $\approx$ 750 GeV , claimed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the run-2 LHC, as the signal of a scalar singlet in a string inspired exceptional supersymmetric standard model (ESSM). The scalar singlet might play a rule in the spontaneous breaking of the $U(1)^\prime$ gauge symmetry of the ESSM and couples to diphoton and/or gluon pair with the help of exotic quarks and Higgs-like supermultiplets, which are contained in the fundamental representation of the $E_6$ group. The model might give rise to a large enough producti…
We calculate flavour dependent lepton asymmetries within the $E_6$ inspired Supersymmetric Standard Model ($\rm E_6SSM$), which has an extra $U(1)_N$ symmetry. In this model, the right-handed neutrino doesn't participate in gauge interactions, allowing it to be used for both the see--saw mechanism and leptogenesis. Extra Higgs, leptons and leptoquarks predicted by the E$_6$SSM contribute to the ordinary lepton CP asymmetries induced by the decays of the lightest right--handed neutrino (and sneutrino) and give rise to a set of extra decay asymmetries. We find that the CP asymmetries can be rela…
We discuss two striking Large Hadron Collider (LHC) signatures of the constrained version of the exceptional supersymmetric standard model (cE6SSM), based on a universal high energy soft scalar mass m_0, soft trilinear coupling A_0 and soft gaugino mass M_{1/2}. The first signature we discuss is that of light exotic colour triplet charge 1/3 fermions, which we refer to as D-fermions. We calculate the LHC production cross section of D-fermions, and discuss their decay patterns. Secondly we discuss the E6 type U(1)_N spin-1 Z' gauge boson and show how it may decay into exotic states, increasing …
We discuss some phenomenological aspects of an $E_6$ inspired supersymmetric standard model with an extra $U(1)_{N}$ gauge symmetry under which right-handed neutrinos have zero charge, allowing a conventional see-saw mechanism. The $μ$ problem is solved in a similar way to the NMSSM, but without the accompanying problems of singlet tadpoles or domain walls. The above exceptional supersymmetric standard model (ESSM) involves the low energy matter content of three 27 representations of $E_6$, which is broken at the GUT scale, and allows gauge coupling unification due to an additional pair of Hig…
We discuss the predictions of a constrained version of the exceptional supersymmetric standard model (cE6SSM), based on a universal high energy soft scalar mass m_0, soft trilinear coupling A_0 and soft gaugino mass M_1/2. We predict a supersymmetry (SUSY) spectrum containing a light gluino, a light wino-like neutralino and chargino pair and a light bino-like neutralino, with other sparticle masses except the lighter stop being much heavier. In addition, the cE6SSM allows the possibility of light exotic colour triplet charge 1/3 fermions and scalars, leading to early exotic physics signals at …
We calculate threshold corrections to the running gauge and Yukawa couplings in the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E6SSM) and analyse the more precise and reliable mass spectra in a constrained model (CE6SSM). Full expressions for the corrections are provided and the implementation into a spectrum generator is described. We find a dramatic reduction in the matching scale dependency of the masses of many states and observe a significant adjustment of the correlation of low-scale physical masses and high-scale parameters. Still, in substantial regions of parameter space the mass of t…
We introduce a non-Abelian discrete $Δ_{27}$ family symmetry into the recently proposed classes of Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model ($E_6$SSM) based on a broken $E_6$ Grand Unified Theory (GUT) in order to solve the flavour problem in these models and in particular to account for tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing. We consider both the minimal version of the model (the ME$_6$SSM) with gauge coupling unification at the string scale and the E$_6$SSM broken via the Pati-Salam chain with gauge coupling unification at the conventional GUT scale. In both models there are low energy exotic colour…
We propose and study a constrained version of the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E6SSM), which we call the cE6SSM, based on a universal high energy scalar mass m_0, trilinear scalar coupling A_0 and gaugino mass M_{1/2}. We derive the Renormalisation Group (RG) Equations for the cE6SSM, including the extra U(1)_{N} gauge factor and the low energy matter content involving three 27 representations of E6. We perform a numerical RG analysis for the cE6SSM, imposing the usual low energy experimental constraints and successful Electro-Weak Symmetry Breaking (EWSB). Our analysis reveals t…
We study the parameter space of the constrained exceptional supersymmetric standard model (cE6SSM) consistent with a Higgs signal near 125 GeV and the LHC searches for squarks, gluinos and Z'. The cE6SSM parameter space consistent with correct electroweak symmetry breaking, is represented by scans in the (m0, M1/2) plane for fixed Z' mass and tan beta, with squark, gluino and Higgs masses plotted as contours in this plane. We find that a 125 GeV Higgs mass only arises for a sufficiently large Z' mass, mostly above current limits, and for particular regions of squark and gluino masses correspon…
The low energy structures of N=1 supersymmetric models with E_6, F_4 and E_7 gauge groups and fundamental irrep matter contents are studied herein. We identify sets of gauge invariant composites which label all flat directions in the confining/Higgs phases of these theories. The impossibility of mapping several of these primary operators rules out previously conjectured exceptional self duals reported in the literature.
The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E$_6$SSM) provides a low energy alternative to the MSSM, with an extra gauged U(1)$_N$ symmetry, solving the $μ$-problem of the MSSM. Inspired by the possible embedding into an E$_6$ GUT, the matter content fills three generations of E$_6$ multiplets, thus predicting exciting exotic matter such as diquarks or leptoquarks. We present predictions from a constrained version of the model (cE$_6$SSM), with a universal scalar mass $m_0$, trilinear mass $A$ and gaugino mass $M_{1/2}$. We reveal a large volume of the cE$_6$SSM parameter space where the co…
The coset spaces E$_8$/SO(10)$\times$H$_F$ allow complex structures which can account for three quark-lepton generations including right-handed neutrinos. We show that in the context of supersymmetric SO(10) gauge theories in 6 dimensions they also provide the Higgs fields which are needed to break the electroweak and ${B-L}$ gauge symmetries, and to generate small neutrino masses via the seesaw mechanism.
The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E$_6$SSM) is a low energy alternative to the MSSM with an extra $U(1)$ gauge symmetry and three generations of matter filling complete 27-plet representations of $E_6$. This provides both new D and F term contributions that raise the Higgs mass at tree level, and a compelling solution to the $μ$-problem of the MSSM by forbidding such a term with the extra $U(1)$ symmetry. Instead, an effective $μ$-term is generated from the VEV of an SM singlet which breaks the extra $U(1)$ symmetry at low energies, giving rise to a massive $Z^\prime$. We explore …
We make a comprehensive study of the theory and phenomenology of a low energy supersymmetric standard model originating from a string-inspired $E_6$ grand unified gauge group. The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (ESSM) considered here is based on the low energy SM gauge group together with an extra $Z'$ corresponding to an extra $U(1)_{N}$ gauge symmetry under which right--handed neutrinos have zero charge. The low energy matter content of the ESSM corresponds to three 27 representations of the $E_6$ symmetry group, to ensure anomaly cancellation, plus an additional pair of Higgs--li…
The 750-760 GeV diphoton resonance may be identified as one or two scalars and/or one or two pseudoscalars contained in the two singlet superfields S_{1,2} arising from the three 27-dimensional representations of E_6 . The three 27s also contain three copies of colour-triplet charge \mp 1/3 vector-like fermions D,\bar{D} and two copies of charged inert Higgsinos \tilde{H}^{+},\tilde{H}^{-} to which the singlets S_{1,2} may couple. We propose a variant of the E_6SSM where the third singlet S_3 breaks a gauged U(1)_N above the TeV scale, predicting Z'_N, D,\bar{D}, \tilde{H}^{+},\tilde{H}^{-} at…
We propose a class of E6-based local orbifold Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) which yield an exceptional supersymmetric standard model as their low energy theory including leptoquark and unhiggs exotics and a Z' at the TeV scale. Unification is achieved in two steps through an intermediate scale symmetry breaking.
We present $Z_3$ orbifold compactifications of $E_8\times E_8^\prime$ heterotic string with three Wilson lines, resulting to the maximum number of SU(3) factors. Here, all the matter spectrums are in the SU(3) trits($\equiv $ three representations ${\bf 3,\bar 3,1}$) of the $SU(3)^8$ GUT. Using this information, we show how three family supersymmetric standard models(SSM) can be obtained. Also, the low lying interesting representations(fundamental and adjoint) of $E_6$ and $E_8$ are given in terms of trits, establishing simple criteria for treating these low lying representations of exceptiona…
In this review article we study the Minimal Supersymmetric Electro-Weak theory (of leptons). The Lagrangian is constructed step by step in great detail, both in the superfield and component field formalism --- both on and off shell. Furthermore the Lagrangian is written in the more familiar four component formalism. Electro weak symmetry breaking is discussed, and the physical chargino- and neutralino states are introduced and discussed.
The next-to-minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (NMSSM) is one of the most favored supersymmetric models. After an introduction to the model, the Higgs sector and the neutralino sector are discussed in detail. Theoretical, experimental, and cosmological constraints are studied. Eventually, the Higgs potential is investigated in the approach of bilinear functions. Emphasis is placed on aspects which are different from the minimal supersymmetric extension.
I give an introductory review of recent, fascinating developments in supersymmetric gauge theories. I explain pedagogically the miraculous properties of supersymmetric gauge dynamics allowing one to obtain exact solutions in many instances. Various dynamical regimes emerging in supersymmetric Quantum Chromodynamics and its generalizations are discussed. I emphasize those features that have a chance of survival in QCD and those which are drastically different in supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric gauge theories. Unlike most of the recent reviews focusing almost entirely on the progress in ex…
A summary is reported on our previous publications about four-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric Spin(10) gauge theory with chiral superfields in the spinor and vector representations in the non-Abelian Coulomb phase. Carrying out the method of a-maximization, we studied decoupling operators in the infrared and the renormalization flow of the theory. We also give a brief review on the non-Abelian Coulomb phase of the theory after recalling the unitarity bound and the a-maximization procedure in four-dimensional conformal field theory. This is a review article invited to International Journal of Mo…
In this lectures, we give a review about the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and the General Singlet Extensions of the MSSM (GSEMSSM). We, first introduce the minimal set of fields to built both models. Then we introduce their superfields and using them we build the lagrangian of those models in the superspace formalism. We show how to get the mass spectrum of those model in the $R$-parity scenarios and we also show how to get some Feynman Rules with the Gauge Bosons.
The discovery of the Higgs boson is both a milestone achievement for the Standard Model and an exciting probe of new physics beyond the SM. One of the most important properties of the Higgs is its mass, a number that has proven to be highly constraining for models of new physics, particularly those related to the electroweak hierarchy problem. Perhaps the most extensively studied examples are supersymmetric models, which, while capable of producing a 125 GeV Higgs boson with SM-like properties, do so in non-generic parts of their parameter spaces. We review the computation of the Higgs mass in…
I review the bounds on the $R$-parity-violating supersymmetric Yukawa couplings from the considerations of proton stability, $n$--$\bar{n}$ oscillation, $ν_e$-Majorana mass, neutrino-less double $β$ decay, charged-current universality, $e$--$μ$--$τ$ universality, $ν_μ$--$e$ scattering, atomic parity violation, $ν_μ$ deep-inelastic scattering, $K^{+}$-decays, $τ$-decays, $D$-decays and from the precision LEP electroweak observables. I also mention about the sparticle bounds at colliders when the assumption of $R$-parity-conservation is relaxed. Finally, I mention how $R$-parity-violating models…
We briefly review the SUGRA, GMSB and AMSB supersymmetry breaking models. We then discuss the phenomenological differences between them and consequent characteristic experimental signatures. This is followed by a review of the discovery potential for supersymmetry at the Tevatron, LHC and a future e+e- linear collider.
We have reached a new era of particle physics in which the properties of the Higgs boson, in particular its mass, turned into precision observables. Therefore, it is necessary to have accurate predictions of these properties in models for new physics. I give an overview of available tools for supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric models which are publically available. Afterwards, the main idea behind generic tools to study a large variety of models is summarised. Also some remarks about the validity of checks for perturbative unitarity, which are often applied for non-supersymmetric models, ar…
We present a self--consistent $E_6$ inspired supersymmetric model with an extra $U(1)_{N}$ gauge symmetry under which right-handed neutrinos have zero charge. We explore the particle spectrum within the constrained version of this exceptional supersymmetric standard model (E$_6$SSM) and discuss its possible collider signatures.
The minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) is reviewed. In the most general framework with minimal field content and R-parity conservation, the MSSM is a 124-parameter model (henceforth called MSSM-124). An acceptable phenomenology occurs only at exceptional points (and small perturbations around these points) of MSSM-124 parameter space. Among the topics addressed in this review are: gauge coupling unification, precision electroweak data, phenomenology of the MSSM Higgs sector, and supersymmetry searches at present and future colliders. The implications of approaches be…
We review the most relevant LHC searches at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV looking for low mass bosons arising from exotic decay of the Standard Model Higgs and highlighting their impact on both supersymmetric and not supersymmetric Beyond the Standard Model scenarios.
Supersymmetric (SUSY) grand unified theories based on exceptional gauge groups such as E6 have recently triggered a lot of interest. Aside from top-down motivations, they contain phenomenologically interesting states with leptoquark quantum numbers. Their SUSY partners, leptoquarkinos, will appear similar to all R-odd particles in decay cascades, but mass edges in kinematic distributions- originating from the same semiexclusive final states-will however have major differences to the corresponding edges of ordinary squarks. This distortion of standard observables bears the opportunity to detect…
In this note we briefly review our recent studies on a 125 GeV Higgs and its di-photon signal rate in different low energy supersymmetric models, namely the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM), the nearly minimal supersymmetric standard model (nMSSM) and the constrained MSSM. Our conclusion is: (i) In the allowed parameter space the SM-like Higgs boson can easily be 125 GeV in the MSSM, NMSSM and nMSSM, while it is hard to realize in the constrained MSSM; (ii) The di-photon Higgs signal rate in the nMSSM and constrained MSSM i…
In this lectures, we give a review about the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with $R$-Parity Violation because it provides an attractive way to generate neutrino masses, lepton mixing angles in acconcordance to present neutrino data.
The second part of this review is devoted to the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The properties of the neutral and charged Higgs bosons of the extended Higgs sector are summarized and their decay modes and production mechanisms at hadron colliders and at future lepton colliders are reviewed.
Recent developments in supersymmetric unified theories are reviewed, with particular emphasis on supersymmetric grand unification and a brief discussion of recent ideas about extra dimensions.
In supersymmetric (SUSY) extensions of the seesaw mechanism the neutrino Yukawa interaction induces the flavor and CP violating sfermion mass terms via the radiative correction. In this article we review the CP violating phenomena in the SUSY seesaw models.
We review the realization of the Brout-Englert-Higgs mechanism in the electroweak theory and describe the experimental and theoretical constraints on the mass of the single Higgs boson expected in the minimal Standard Model. We also discuss the couplings of this Higgs boson and its possible decay modes as functions of its unknown mass. We then review the structure of the Higgs sector in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM), noting the importance of loop corrections to the masses of its five physical Higgs bosons. Finally, we discuss some non-minimal models.
We review very nice mechanism to generate masses to all the neutrinos in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) without break $R$-parity. In consequence we get viable axion as Dark Matter candidate and at the same time solve the $μ$-problem in a similar way as done in the Next to Minimal Supersymmetric Model (NMSSM).
I review the mechanism of electroweak baryogenesis within the framework of a string motivated supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model with large flavor-independent CP-violating phases. Possible implications for the Higgs sector are considered in correlation with the properties of the right-handed stop. I also comment on the compatibility of supersymmetric electroweak baryogenesis with various CP-violating observables.
We review the TeV scale $B-L$ extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (BLSSM) where an inverse seesaw mechanism of light neutrino mass generation is naturally implemented and concentrate on its hallmark manifestations at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
We review the possibility of formation for a bound state made out of a stop quark and its antiparticle. The detection of a signal from its decay has been investigated for the case of a $e^+e^-$ collider.
I address the question of whether supersymmetry provides a viable candidate for the dark matter in the Universe. I review the properties of the lightest neutralino as a candidate for solving the dark matter problem. I discuss the neutralino's phenomenological and cosmological properties, and constraints from present and future experiments. In the minimal supersymmetric model, the neutralino mass has been experimentally excluded below some $20$ GeV, and is not expected to be significantly larger than about $150$ GeV. I identify a gaugino-like neutralino as the most natural dark matter candidate…
A number of searches at the LHC looking for low mass ($2m_μ - 62\ \mathrm{GeV}$) bosons in $\sqrt{s} = 8\ \mathrm{TeV}$ data have recently been published. We summarise the most pertinent ones, and look at how their limits affect a variety of supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric models which can give rise to such light bosons: the 2HDM (Types I and II), the NMSSM, and the nMSSM.
The supersymmetric extension to the Standard Model offers a promising cold dark matter candidate, the lightest neutralino. I will review the prospects for the detection of this candidate in both accelerator and direct detection searches.
