We establish global regularity and stability for the irrotational relativistic Euler equations with equation of state $\overline{p}=K\overlineρ$, where $0<K<1/3$, for small initial data in the expanding direction of FLRW spacetimes of the form $(\mathbb R\times\mathbb T^3,-d\tb^2+\tb^2δ_{ij} dx^i dx^j)$. This provides the first case of non-dust fluid stabilization by spacetime expansion where the expansion rate is of power law type but non-accelerated. In particular, the time integral of the inverse scale factor diverges as $t\rightarrow\infty$.
The backreaction on the Randall-Sundrum warped spacetime is determined in presence of scalar field in the bulk. A general analysis shows that the stability of such a model can be achieved only if the scalar field action has non-canonical higher derivative terms. It is further shown that the gauge hierarchy problem can be resolved in such a stabilized scenario by appropriate choice of various parameters of the theory. The effective cosmological constant on the brane is shown to vanish.
We propose a definition of the accelerated frames in de Sitter spacetime whose metric recovers the Rindler approach in the flat limit. Unfortunately, this metric has no a satisfactory limit for vanishing acceleration such that its physical meaning remains obscure.
Analytical extensions and resulting Penrose diagrams are given for the solutions of a simple 2d dilaton gravity theory describing black holes which are static as viewed by asymptotically accelerated observers.
We use Generalized Fermi-Walker transport to construct a one-parameter family of inertial frames which are instantaneously comoving to a uniformly accelerated observer. We explain the connection between our approach and that of Mashhoon. We show that our solutions of uniformly accelerated motion have constant acceleration in the comoving frame. Assuming the Weak Hypothesis of Locality, we obtain local spacetime transformations from a uniformly accelerated frame $K'$ to an inertial frame $K$. The spacetime transformations between two uniformly accelerated frames with the same acceleration are L…
Geodesic completeness is typically regarded as a basic criterion to determine whether a given spacetime is regular or singular. However, the principle of general covariance does not privilege any family of observers over the others and, therefore, observers with arbitrary motions should be able to provide a complete physical description of the world. This suggests that in a regular spacetime, all physically acceptable observers should have complete paths. In this work we explore this idea by studying the motion of accelerated observers in spherically symmetric spacetimes and illustrate it by c…
Solutions of vacuum Einstein's field equations describing uniformly accelerated particles or black holes belong to the class of boost-rotation symmetric spacetimes. They are the only explicit solutions known which represent moving finite objects. Their Newtonian limit is analyzed using the Ehlers frame theory. Generic spacetimes with axial and boost symmetries are first studied from the Newtonian perspective. The results are then illustrated by specific examples such as C-metric, Bonnor-Swaminarayan solutions, self-accelerating "dipole particles", and generalized boost-rotation symmetric solut…
In the context of dark energy solutions, we consider a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime filled with a non-interacting mixture of dust and a viscous fluid, whose bulk viscosity is governed by the nonlinear model proposed in [15]. Through a phase space analysis of the equivalent dynamical system, existence and stability of critical solutions are established and the respective scale factors are computed. The results point towards the possibility of describing the current accelerated expansion of the Universe by means of the abovementioned nonlinear model for viscosity.
Spherical energy shells in General Relativity tend to collapse due to gravitational effects and/or due to tension effects. Shell stabilization may be achieved by modifying the gravitational properties of the background spacetime. Thus, gravastars consist of stiff matter shells with an interior deSitter space and an exterior Schwarzshild spacetime whose attractive gravity balances the interior repulsive gravity of the interior deSitter spacetime leading to a stable stiff matter shell. Similar stabilization effects may be achieved by considering rotating shells. Here we study the stability of sl…
In this note, we consider the response of a uniformly accelerated monopole detector that is coupled non-linearly to the nth power of a quantum scalar field in (D+1)-dimensional flat spacetime. We show that, when (D+1) is even, the response of the detector in the Minkowski vacuum is characterized by a Bose-Einstein factor for all n. Whereas, when (D+1) is odd, we find that a Fermi-Dirac factor appears in the detector response when n is odd, but a Bose-Einstein factor arises when n is even.
The acceleration transformations form a 4-parameter Abelian subgroup of the conformal group of Minkowski spacetime. The passive interpretation of acceleration transformations leads to a congruence of uniformly accelerated observers in Minkowski spacetime. The properties of this congruence are studied in order to illustrate the kinematics of accelerated observers in relativistic physics. The generalization of this approach under conformal rescaling of the spacetime metric is examined.
We provide expansions of the Detweiler-Whiting singular field for motion along arbitrary, planar accelerated trajectories in Schwarzschild spacetime. We transcribe these results into mode-sum regularization parameters, computing previously unknown terms that increase the convergence rate of the mode-sum. We test our results by computing the self-force along a variety of accelerated trajectories. For non-uniformly accelerated circular orbits we present results from a new 1+1D discontinuous Galerkin time-domain code which employs an effective-source. We also present results for uniformly acceler…
The scalar and electromagnetic fields of charges uniformly accelerated in de Sitter spacetime are constructed. They represent the generalization of the Born solutions describing fields of two particles with hyperbolic motion in flat spacetime. In the limit Lambda -> 0, the Born solutions are retrieved. Since in the de Sitter universe the infinities I^+- are spacelike, the radiative properties of the fields depend on the way in which a given point of I^+- is approached. The fields must involve both retarded and advanced effects: Purely retarded fields do not satisfy the constraints at the past …
We investigate the quantum radiation emitted by a uniformly accelerated Unruh-DeWitt detector in de Sitter spacetime. We find that there exists a non-vanishing quantum radiation at late times in the radiation zone of the conformally flat coordinates, which cover the region behind the cosmological horizon for the accelerated detector. The theoretical structure of producing the late-time quantum radiation is similar to that of the same model in Minkowski spacetime: it comes from a nonlocal correlation of the quantum field in the Bunch-Davies vacuum state, which can be traced back to the entangle…
In Minkowski space, an accelerated reference frame may be defined as one that is related to an inertial frame by a sequence of instantaneous Lorentz transformations. Such an accelerated observer sees a causal horizon, and the quantum vacuum of the inertial observer appears thermal to the accelerated observer, also known as the Unruh effect. We argue that an accelerating frame may be similarly defined (i.e. as a sequence of instantaneous Lorentz transformations) in noncommutative Moyal spacetime, and discuss the twisted quantum field theory appropriate for such an accelerated observer. Our anal…
We investigate the entanglement dynamics for a quantum system composed of two uniformly accelerated Unruh-DeWitt detectors in different spacetime dimensions. It is found that the range of parameters in which entanglement can be generated is expanded but the amount of generated entanglement is decreased with the increasing spacetime dimension, by calculating the evolution of two-atom states using the method for open quantum systems. We study the entanglement evolution between two accelerated atoms for different initial two-atom states, and the influence of corresponding spacetime dimensions for…
The scalar and electromagnetic fields produced by the geodesic and uniformly accelerated discrete charges in de Sitter spacetime are constructed by employing the conformal relation between de Sitter and Minkowski space. A special attention is paid to new effects arising in spacetimes which, like de Sitter space, have spacelike conformal infinities. Under the presence of particle and event horizons, purely retarded fields (appropriately defined) become necessarily singular or even cannot be constructed at the "creation light cones" -- future light cones of the "points" at which the sources "ent…
This paper provides an analytical treatment of accelerated and geodesic motion within the framework of the Friedmann -Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetime. By employing conformal time transformations we manage to convert second order differential equations of motion in FLRW spacetime to first order equations in the conformally transformed spacetime. This allows us to derive a general analytical solution in closed-form for accelerated motion in spatially curved FLRW spacetime. We provide few examples of this general solution for the spatially flat cases. The last part of our work focuses …
We have investigated the Unruh effect in Anti de-Sitter (AdS) spacetime by examining the response function of an Unruh-DeWitt particle detector with uniform constant acceleration. An exact expression of the detector response function for the scalar field has been obtained with different levels of non-linearity in even dimensional AdS spacetime. We also showed how the response of the accelerated Unruh detector coupled quadratically to massless Dirac field in $D$ dimensional $(D \geq 2)$ AdS spacetime is proportional to that of a detector linearly coupled to a massless scalar field in $2D$ dimen…
The C-metric is one of few known exact solutions of Einstein's field equations which describes the gravitational field of moving sources. For a vanishing or positive cosmological constant, the C-metric represents two accelerated black holes in asymptotically flat or de Sitter spacetime. For a negative cosmological constant the structure of the spacetime is more complicated. Depending on the value of the acceleration, it can represent one black hole or a sequence of pairs of accelerated black holes in the spacetime with an anti-de Sitter-like infinity. The global structure of this spacetime is …
We study the scalar curvature of spacelike hypersurfaces in the family of cosmological models known as generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes, and give several rigidity results under appropriate mathematical and physical assumptions. On the other hand, we show that this family of spacetimes provides suitable models obeying the null convergence condition to explain accelerated expanding universes.
We discuss the Newtonian limit of boost-rotation symmetric spacetimes by means of the Ehler's frame theory. Conditions for the existence of such a limit are given and, in particular, we show that asymptotic flatness is an essential requirement for the existence of such a limit. Consequently, generalized boost-rotation symmetric spacetimes describing particles moving in uniform fields will not possess a Newtonian limit. In the cases where the boost-rotation symmetric spacetime is asymptotically flat and its Newtonian limit exists, then it is non-zero only for the instant of time symmetry and it…
We present here a general relativistic mechanism for accelerated cosmic expansion and the Hubble's constant. It is shown that spacetime vorticity coupled to the magnetic field density in galaxies causes the galaxies to recede from one another at a rate equal to the Hubble's constant. We therefore predict an oscillatory universe, with zero curvature, without assuming violation of Newtonian gravity at large distances or invoking dark energy/dark matter hypotheses. The value of the Hubble's constant, along with the scale of expansion, as well as the high isotropy of CMB radiation are deduced from…
A way to encode acceleration directly into fields has recently being proposed, thus establishing a new kind of fields, the accelerated fields. The definition of accelerated fields points to the quantization of space and time, analogously to the way quantities like energy and momentum are quantized in usual quantum field theories. Unruh effect has been studied in connection with quantum field theory in curved spacetime and it is described by recruiting a uniformly accelerated observer. In this work, as a first attempt to demonstrate the utility of accelerated fields, we present an alternative w…
Boost-rotation symmetric spacetimes are the only locally asymptotically flat axially symmetric electrovacuum spacetimes with a further symmetry that are radiative. They are realized by uniformly accelerated particles of various kinds or black holes. Their general properties are summarized. Several examples of boost-rotation symmetric solutions of the Maxwell and Einstein equations are studied: uniformly accelerated electric and magnetic multipoles, the Bonnor-Swaminarayan solutions, the C-metric and the spinning C-metric.
Physicists have been interested in accelerated observers for quite some time. Since the advent of special relativity, many authors have tried to understand these observers in the framework of Minkowski spacetime. One of the most important issues related to these observers is the problematic definition of rigid motion. In this paper, I write the metric in terms of the Frenet-Serret curvatures and the proper coordinate system of a general accelerated observer. Then, I use this approach to create a systematic way to construct a rigid motion in Minkowski spacetime. Finally, I exemplify the benefit…
In this paper we study the Dirac equation in the Rindler spacetime. The solution of the wave equation in an accelerated reference frame is obtained. The differential equation associated to this wave equation is mapped into a Sturm-Liouville problem of a Schrödinger-like equation. We derive a compact expression for the energy spectrum associated with the Dirac equation in an accelerated reference. It is shown that the noninertial effect of the accelerated reference frame mimics an external potential in the Dirac equation and, moreover, allows the formation of bound states.
Assuming that an accelerated observer with four-velocity ${\bf u}_{\rm R}$ in a curved spacetime attributes the standard Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and Unruh temperature to his "local Rindler horizon", we show that the $\rm \it change$ in horizon area under parametric displacements of the horizon has a very specific thermodynamic structure. Specifically, it entails information about the time-time component of the Einstein tensor: $\bf G({\bf u}_{\rm R}, {\bf u}_{\rm R})$. Demanding that the result holds for all accelerated observers, this actually becomes a statement about the full Einstein te…
Simple derivation of the classical generalized Moller-Wu-Lee transformations from general master equation is presented. We will argue that in fact we can implement Born's notion of rigid motion in both flat spacetime and arbitrary curved non-holonomic spacetimes containing classical and Colombeau's distributional sources.
We establish the future nonlinear stability of a large class of FLRW models as solutions to the Einstein-Dust system. We consider the case of a vanishing cosmological constant, which in particular implies that the expansion rate of the respective models is linear i.e. has zero acceleration. The resulting spacetimes are future globally regular. These solutions constitute the first generic class of future regular Einstein-Dust spacetimes not undergoing accelerated expansion and are thereby the slowest expanding generic family of future complete Einstein-Dust spacetimes currently known.
A direct consequence of quantization of gravity would be quantum gravitational vacuum fluctuations which induce quadrupole moments in gravitationally polarizable atoms. In this paper, we study the spontaneous excitation of a gravitationally polarizable atom with a uniform acceleration $a$ in interaction with a bath of fluctuating quantum gravitational fields in vacuum, and compare the result with that of a static one in a thermal bath of gravitons at the Unruh temperature. We find that, under the fluctuations of spacetime itself, transitions to higher-lying excited states from the ground state…
In many cases a nonlinear scalar field with potential $V$ can lead to accelerated expansion in cosmological models. This paper contains mathematical results on this subject for homogeneous spacetimes. It is shown that, under the assumption that $V$ has a strictly positive minimum, Wald's theorem on spacetimes with positive cosmological constant can be generalized to a wide class of potentials. In some cases detailed information on late-time asymptotics is obtained. Results on the behaviour in the past time direction are also presented.
An accelerated boundary correspondence (ABC) is solved for the de Sitter moving mirror cosmology. The beta Bogoliubov coefficients reveal the particle spectrum is a Planck distribution with temperature inversely proportional to horizon radius. The quantum stress-tensor indicates a constant emission of energy flux consistent with eternal equilibrium, while the total energy carried by the particles remains finite. The curved spacetime transformation to flat spacetime with an accelerated boundary is illustrated, and also shown for Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime.
We study the asymptotic dynamics of $f(T, B)$-theory in an anisotropic Bianchi III background geometry. We show that an attractor always exists for the field equations, which depends on a free parameter provided by the specific $f(T, B)$ functional form. The attractor is an accelerated spatially flat FLRW or non-accelerated LRS Bianchi III geometry. Consequently, the $f(T, B)$-theory provides a spatially flat and isotropic accelerated Universe.
We propose a definition of uniform accelerated frames in de Sitter spacetimes applying the Nachtmann method of introducing coordinates using suitable point-dependent isometries. In order to recover the well-known Rindler approach in the flat limit, we require the transformation between the static frame and the accelerated one to depend continuously on acceleration, obtaining thus the natural generalization of the Rindler transformation to the de Sitter spacetimes of any dimensions.
We study a two-level atom in interaction with a real massless scalar quantum field in a spacetime with a reflecting boundary. The presence of the boundary modifies the quantum fluctuations of the scalar field, which in turn modifies the radiative properties of atoms. We calculate the rate of change of the mean atomic energy of the atom for both inertial motion and uniform acceleration. It is found that the modifications induced by the presence of a boundary make the spontaneous radiation rate of an excited inertial atom to oscillate near the boundary and this oscillatory behavior may offer a p…
This paper deals thoroughly with the scalar and electromagnetic fields of uniformly accelerated charges in de Sitter spacetime. It gives details and makes various extensions of our Physical Review Letter from 2002. The basic properties of the classical Born solutions representing two uniformly accelerated charges in flat spacetime are first summarized. The worldlines of uniformly accelerated particles in de Sitter universe are defined and described in a number of coordinate frames, some of them being of cosmological significance, the other are tied naturally to the particles. The scalar and el…
We study the cosmological implications of interactions between spacetime quanta in the Group Field Theory (GFT) approach to Quantum Gravity from a phenomenological perspective. Our work represents a first step towards understanding Early Universe Cosmology by studying the dynamics of the emergent continuum spacetime, as obtained from a fundamentally discrete microscopic theory. In particular, we show how GFT interactions lead to a recollapse of the Universe while preserving the bounce replacing the initial singularity, which has already been shown to occur in the free case. It is remarkable th…
Several recent investigations have shown that there is a holographic relationship between the bulk degrees of freedom and the surface degrees of freedom in the spacetime. Furthermore, the entropy on the horizon can produce an entropic force effect on the bulk degrees of freedom. In this paper, we explore the dynamic evolution law of the universe based on the idea of the entropic force and asymptotically holographic equipartition and further analyze the thermodynamic properties of the current model. We get the age of the universe, the relation between the luminosity distance and the redshift fa…

The Rindler spacetime describing a series of accelerating observers is Ricci flat, but it still has novel optical effects. In the case of WKB approximation, we derive the light geodesics in the Rindler frame based on the covariant wave equation and geodesic equations. Then, we use ABCD matrix optics method to explore the propagation characteristics of Rindler frame, thus link three different optical transformation scenes (geometry, gravity and vacuum refractive index) together. Moreover, the propagation characteristics of hollow beam in Rindler spacetime are described analytically. Those chara…
If the current acceleration of our Universe is due to a cosmological constant, then a Coleman-De Luccia bubble will nucleate in our Universe. In this work, we consider that our observations could be likely in this framework, consisting in two infinite spaces, if a foliation by constant mean curvature hypersurfaces is taken to count the events in the spacetime. Thus, we obtain and study a particular foliation, which covers the existence of most observers in our part of spacetime.
The thermal time hypothesis proposed by Rovelli [1] regards the physical basis for the flow of time as thermodynamical and provides a definition of the temperature for some special cases. We verify this hypothesis in the case of de Sitter spacetime by relating the uniformly accelerated observer in de Sitter spacetime to the diamond in Minkowski spacetime. Then, as an application of it, we investigate the thermal effect for the uniformly accelerated observer with a finite lifetime in dS spacetime, which generalizes the corresponding result for the case of Minkowski spacetime [2]. Furthermore, n…
We calculate the singular field of an accelerated point particle (scalar charge, electric charge or small gravitating mass) moving on an accelerated (non-geodesic) trajectory in a generic background spacetime. Using a mode-sum regularization scheme, we obtain explicit expressions for the self-force regularization parameters. In the electromagnetic and gravitational case, we use a Lorenz gauge. This work extends the work of Barack and Ori [1] who demonstrated that the regularization parameters for a point particle in geodesic motion in a Schwarzschild spacetime can be described solely by the le…
The spinning C-metric was discovered by Plebanski and Demianski as a generalization of the standard C-metric which is known to represent uniformly accelerated non-rotating black holes. We first transform the spinning C-metric into Weyl coordinates and analyze some of its properties as Killing vectors and curvature invariants. A transformation is then found which brings the metric into the canonical form of the radiative spacetimes with the boost-rotation symmetry. By analytically continuing the metric across "acceleration horizons", two new regions of the spacetime arise in which both Killing …
An uniformly accelerated (Rindler) observer will detect particles in the Minkowski vacuum, known as Unruh effect. The spectrum is thermal and the temperature is given by that of the Killing horizon, which is proportional to the acceleration. Considering these particles are kept in a thermal bath with this temperature, we find that the correlation function of the random force due to radiation acting on the particles as measured by the accelerated frame, shows the fluctuation-dissipation relation. It is observed that the correlations, in both ($1+1$) spacetime and ($1+3$) dimensional spacetimes,…
We study the decay of solutions of the wave equation in some expanding cosmological spacetimes, namely flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) models and the cosmological region of the Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter (RNdS) solution. By introducing a partial energy and using an iteration scheme, we find that, for initial data with finite higher order energies, the decay rate of the time derivative is faster than previously existing estimates. For models undergoing accelerated expansion, our decay rate appears to be (almost) sharp.
We investigate the limitations of length measurements by accelerated observers in Minkowski spacetime brought about via the hypothesis of locality, namely, the assumption that an accelerated observer at each instant is equivalent to an otherwise identical momentarily comoving inertial observer. We find that consistency can be achieved only in a rather limited neighborhood around the observer with linear dimensions that are negligibly small compared to the characteristic acceleration length of the observer.
The `runaway solutions' of the Lorentz-Dirac equation of a charged particle interacting with its own field in classical electrodynamics are well-known. This type of self accelerated phenomena also exists in the solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations in general relativity. In particular, runaway solutions occur in a class of simple models known as the `Asymptotically Flat Robinson-Trautman Einstein-Maxwell' (AFRTEM) spacetimes. Consequently these spacetimes cannot evolve to their unique regular steady state, viz. a charged non-rotating black hole. This seems to contradict the established r…
We investigate radial Rindler trajectories in a static spherically symmetric black hole spacetime. We assume the trajectory to remain linearly uniformly accelerated throughout its motion, in the sense of the curved spacetime generalisation of the Letaw-Frenet equations. For the Schwarzschild spacetime, we arrive at a bound on the magnitude of the acceleration $|a|$ for radially inward moving trajectories, in terms of the mass $M$ of the black hole given by $|a| \leq 1/(\sqrt{27} M)$ for a particular choice of asymptotic initial data $h$, such that, for acceleration $|a|$ greater than the bound…
