In recent years many-body perturbation theory encountered a renaissance in the field of ab initio nuclear structure theory. In various applications it was shown that perturbation theory, including novel flavors of it, constitutes a useful tool to describe atomic nuclei, either as a full-fledged many-body approach or as an auxiliary method to support more sophisticated non-perturbative many-body schemes. In this work the current status of many-body perturbation theory in the field of nuclear structure is discussed and novel results are provided that highlight its power as a efficient and yet accurate (pre-processing) approach to systematically investigate medium-mass nuclei. Eventually a new generation of chiral nuclear Hamiltonians is benchmarked using several state-of-the-art flavours of many-body perturbation theory.
The analytic THO method is generalized to study three-body nuclei of astrophysical interest, and applied to $^6$He. Results are consistent with previous publications and experimental data.

We apply the Hybrid-Multi-Determinant method using the recent chiral two-body interactions of Entem-Machleidt-Nosyk (EMN) without renormalization to few nuclei up to A=48. Mostly we use the bare fifth order NN interaction N4LO-450. For ${}^{24}Mg$ and ${}^{48}Cr$ the excitation energies of the $2^+_1$ states are far larger than the corresponding experimental values.
Few-body systems, such as cold atoms and halo nuclei, share universal features at low energies, which are insensitive to the underlying inter-particle interactions at short ranges. These low-energy properties can be investigated in the framework of effective field theory with two-body and three-body contact interactions. I review the effective-field-theory studies of universal physics in three-body systems, focusing on the application in cold atoms and halo nuclei.
In light and medium-mass nuclei, two-body weak currents from chiral effective field theory account for a significant portion of the phenomenological quenching of Gamow-Teller transition matrix elements. Here we examine the systematic effects of two-body axial currents on Gamow-Teller strength and $β$-decay rates in heavy nuclei within energy-density functional theory. Using a Skyrme functional and the charge-changing finite amplitude method, we add the contributions of two-body currents to the usual one-body linear response in the Gamow-Teller channel, both exactly and though a density-matrix …

Halo nuclei projectiles can undergo into a fragmentation process when scattered by a nucleus target. The corresponding core from exotic nuclei is usually observed while the others fragments of the reaction are not. We use the recently proposed theory by [Phys. Lett. B767, 53 (2017)] with a four-body description of the inclusive breakup reaction where the projectile is 20C described like a two-neutron halo nucleus. The momentum of both neutrons are integrated out giving a generic description of the core angular distribution. In this preliminary study we perform an analysis of the inclusive inel…
The quantum phases of superconductivity and superfluidity are characterised mathematically by the Yang concept of Off-Diagonal Long Range Order (ODLRO), related to the existence of a large eigenvalue of the density matrix. We analyse how the Yang criterion applies for various Hamiltonians commonly employed to describe superfluid-type correlations in atomic nuclei. For like-particle pairing Hamiltonians the behaviour of the largest eigenvalue of two-body density matrix shows a clear evidence for a transition between a normal to a paired phase. However, this is not the case for the isoscalar pro…
The Transfer to the Continuum method has been applied to describe the $^{11}\text{Li}(p,pn)$ and $^{14}\text{Be}(p,pn)$ reactions in inverse kinematics, using structure overlaps computed within a full three-body model for the projectile. Calculations agree with the available experimental data on the unbound $^{10}$Li and $^{13}$Be nuclei.
Dimensionless ratios characterizing many-body systems are a powerful tool to reveal the main universal quantities involved. The recently-introduced localisation parameter allow to study the occurrence of crystal, clusterisation, and quantum liquid states in many-body systems such as nuclei. Its concomitant use with other dimensionless quantities such as the quantality, allows to pinpoint fundamental lengthscales and dimensionless ratios at work in nuclei. Within the present approach, the impact of delocalisation on nuclear saturation is discussed. The transition from a homogeneous to a cluster…
We study the effects of repulsive four-body interactions of $α$ particles on nuclear $α$-particle condensates in heavy self-conjugate nuclei using a semi-analytic approach, and find that the repulsive four-body interactions could decrease the critical number of $α$ particles, beyond which quasi-stable $α$-particle condensate states can no longer exist, even if these four-body interactions make only tiny contributions to the total energy of the Hoyle-like state of $^{16}$O. Explicitly, we study eight benchmark parameter sets, and find that the critical number $N_\text{cr}$ decreases by $|ΔN_\te…
We propose a novel idea to construct an effective interaction under energy-density-functional (EDF) theories which is adaptive to the enlargement of the model space. Guided by effective field theory principles, iterations of interactions as well as enlargements of the model space through particle-hole excitations are carried out for infinite nuclear matter and selected closed-shell nuclei ($^4$He, $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ca, $^{56}$Ni and $^{100}$Sn) up to next-to-leading order. Our approach provides a new way for handling the nuclear matter and finite nuclei within the same scheme, with advantages f…
Analytical transformed harmonic oscillator basis for three-body nuclei of astrophysical interest: Application to 6He
The challenging nuclear many-body problem is discussed along with classifications and qualitative descriptions of existing methods and models. We present detailed derivations of a new method where cluster correlations co-exist with an underlying mean-field described core-structure. The variation of an antisymmetrized product of cluster and core wave functions and a given nuclear interaction, provide sets of self-consistent equations of motion. After the applications on dripline nuclei we discuss perspectives with improvements and applications. In the conclusion we summarize while emphasizing t…
In this paper we present an evolution of our derivation of the shell-model effective Hamiltonian, namely introducing effects of three-body contributions. More precisely, we consider a three-body potential at next-to-next-to-leading order in chiral perturbation theory, and the induced three-body forces that arise from many-body correlations among valence nucleons. The first one is included, in the derivation of the effective Hamiltonian for one- and two-valence nucleon-systems, at first order in the many-body perturbation theory. Namely, we include only the three-body interaction between one or…
The nonrelativistic reduction of the self-consistent covariant density functional theory is realized for the first time with the similarity renormalization group (SRG) method. The reduced nonrelativistic Hamiltonian and densities are calculated by solving the corresponding flow equations with a novel expansion in terms of the inverse of the Dirac effective mass. The efficiency and accuracy of this newly proposed framework have been demonstrated for several typical spherical nuclei. It is found that the exact solutions of the total energies, traces of vector and scalar densities, and the root-m…

Current and future electron and neutrino scattering experiments will be greatly aided by a better understanding of the role played by short-range correlations in nuclei. Two-body physics, including nucleon-nucleon correlations and two-body electroweak currents, is required to explain the body of experimental data for both static and dynamical nuclear properties. In this work, we focus on examining nucleon-nucleon correlations from a chiral effective field theory perspective and provide a comprehensive set of new variational Monte Carlo calculations of one- and two-body densities and momentum d…
Potential energy surfaces of actinide and transfermium nuclei from multi-dimensional constraint covariant density functional theories
Multi-dimensional constrained covariant density functional theories were developed recently. In these theories, all shape degrees of freedom β_{λμ} deformations with even μare allowed, e.g., β_{20}, β_{22}, β_{30}, β_{32}, β_{40}, β_{42}, β_{44}, and so on and the CDFT functional can be one of the following four forms: the meson exchange or point-coupling nucleon interactions combined with the non-linear or density-dependent couplings. In this contribution, some applications of these theories are presented. The potential energy surfaces of actinide nuclei in the (β_{20}, β_{22}, β_{30}) deform…
Based on the leading-order covariant pionless effective field theory, a relativistic nuclear Hamiltonian is derived and solved using the variational Monte Carlo approach for $A\le 4$ nuclei by representing the nuclear many-body wave functions with a symmetry-based artificial neural network. It is found that the relativistic effects rescue the renormalizability of the theory, and overcome the energy collapse problem for $^3$H and $^4$He without promoting a repulsive three-nucleon interaction to leading order as in nonrelativistic calculations. Nevertheless, to exactly reproduce the experimental…
We present a new approach to identify fragments in computer simulations of relativistic heavy ion collisions. It is based on the simulated annealing technique and can be applied to n-body transport models like the Quantum Molecular Dynamics. This new approach is able to predict isotope yields as well as hyper-nucleus production. In order to illustrate its predicting power, we confront this new method with experimental data and show the sensitivity on the parameters which govern the cluster formation.
