Estimating the area of extreme inclusions in Reissner-Mindlin plates

We derive upper and lower estimates of the area of unknown defects in the form of either cavities or rigid inclusions in Mindlin-Reissner elastic plates in terms of the difference $δW$ of the works exerted by boundary loads on the defected and on the reference plate. It turns out that the upper estimates depend linearly on $δW$, whereas the lower ones depend quadratically on $δW$. These results continue a line of research concerning size estimates of extreme inclusions in electric conductors, elastic bodies and plates.

A generalized Korn inequality and strong unique continuation for the Reissner-Mindlin plate system

We prove constructive estimates for elastic plates modelled by the Reissner-Mindlin theory and made by general anisotropic material. Namely, we obtain a generalized Korn inequality which allows to derive quantitative stability and global H^2 regularity for the Neumann problem. Moreover, in case of isotropic material, we derive an interior three spheres inequality with optimal exponent from which the strong unique continuation property follows.

Size estimates for fat inclusions in an isotropic Reissner-Mindlin plate

In this paper we consider the inverse problem of determining, within an elastic isotropic thick plate modelled by the Reissner-Mindlin theory, the possible presence of an inclusion made of a different elastic material. On Stability of Hyperbolic Thermoelastic Reissner-Mindlin-Timoshenko Plates

In the present article, we consider a thermoelastic plate of Reissner-Mindlin-Timoshenko type with the hyperbolic heat conduction arising from Cattaneo's law. Port-Hamiltonian formulation and symplectic discretization of Plate models. Part I : Mindlin model for thick plates

The port-Hamiltonian formulation is a powerful method for modeling and interconnecting systems of different natures. In this paper, the port-Hamiltonian formulation in tensorial form of a thick plate described by the Mindlin-Reissner model is presented. Boundary control and observation are taken into account. Inf-sup condition and locking: Understanding and circumventing. Stokes, Laplacian, bi-Laplacian, Kirchhoff--Love and Mindlin--Reissner locking type, boundary conditions

The inf-sup condition, also called the Ladyzhenskaya--Babu\v ska--Brezzi (LBB) condition, ensures the existence, uniqueness and well-posedness of a saddle point problem, relative to a partial differential equation. Discretization by the finite element method gives the discrete problem which must satisfy the discrete inf-sup condition. But, depending on the choice of finite elements, the discrete condition may fail. This paper attempts to explain why it fails from an engineer's perspective, and reviews current methods to work around this failure. The last part recalls the mathematical bases.

Analysis and Comparison of Port-Hamiltonian Formulations for Field Theories - demonstrated by means of the Mindlin plate

This paper focuses on the port-Hamiltonian formulation of systems described by partial differential equations. Homogenization of the vibro-acoustic transmission on periodically perforated elastic plates with arrays of resonators

Based on our previous work, we propose a homogenized model of acoustic waves propagating through periodically perforated elastic plates with metamaterial properties due to embedded arrays of soft elastic inclusions serving for resonators. Such structures enable to suppress the acoustic transmission for selected frequency bands.
