We prove from the modified gravity (MG) galaxy/halo mock catalogs that the shape of the pairwise kinematic Sunyaev-Zeldovich (kSZ) power spectrum $P_{\rm kSZ}$ has constraining power on discriminating different gravity theories on cosmological scales. By varying the effective optical depth $τ_{\rm T}$ as a free parameter, we verify that the $τ_{\rm T}$-$f$ (the linear growth rate) degeneracy in the linear theory of $P_{\rm kSZ}$ is broken down by the non-linear structure growth and the scale-dependence of $f$ in some MG theories. Equivalently speaking, the shape of $P_{\rm kSZ}$ alone could be used to constrain the MG theories on cosmological scales. With a good knowledge of galaxy density biases, we verify that, a combination of the next generation of CMB and galaxy spectroscopic redshift surveys, e.g. BOSS+CMB-S4 or DESI+CMB-S4, could potentially discriminate $f(R)$ models from the general relativity at $\sim5σ$ level using the shape of the galaxy pairwise kSZ dipole $P_{{\rm kSZ},\ell=1}$ alone, when $f_{R0}=10^{-4}$.
Starting from a covariant formalism of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect for the thermal and non-thermal distributions, we derive the frequency redistribution function identical to Wright's method assuming the smallness of the photon energy (in the Thomson limit). We also derive the redistribution function in the covariant formalism in the Thomson limit. We show that two redistribution functions are mathematically equivalent in the Thomson limit which is fully valid for the cosmic microwave background photon energies. We will also extend the formalism to the kinematical Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. Wi…
Based upon the rate equations for the photon distribution function obtained in the previous paper, we study the formal solutions in three different representation forms for the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. By expanding the formal solution in the operator representation in powers of both the derivative operator and electron velocity, we derive a formal solution that is equivalent to the Fokker-Planck expansion approximation. We extend the present formalism to the kinematical Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. The properties of the frequency redistribution functions are studied. We find that the kinematical…
We study a covariant formalism for the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effects developed in the previous papers by the present authors, and derive analytic expressions for the redistribution functions in the Thomson approximation. We also explore another covariant formalism recently developed by Poutanen and Vurm. We show that the two formalisms are mathematically equivalent in the Thomson approximation which is fully valid for the cosmic microwave background photon energies. The present finding will establish a theoretical foundation for the analysis of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effects for the clusters of gal…
We study the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect for clusters of galaxies. The Boltzmann equations for the CMB photon distribution function are studied in three Lorentz frames. We clarify the relations of the SZ effects among the different Lorentz frames. We derive analytic expressions for the photon redistribution functions. These formulas are applicable to the nonthermal electron distributions as well as the standard thermal distribution. We show that the Fokker-Planck expansion of the Boltzmann equation can be expanded by the power series of the diffusion operator of the original Kompaneets equation.
Large-angle fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background temperature induced by the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect and Compton-y distortions from the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect are both due to line-of-sight density perturbations. Here we calculate the cross-correlation between these two signals. Measurement of this cross-correlation can be used to test the redshift distribution of the tSZ distortion, which has implications for the redshift at which astrophysical processes in clusters begin to operate. We also evaluate the detectability of a yT cross-correlation from exotic early-…
We study the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect for clusters of galaxies. The Boltzmann equations for the cosmic microwave background photon distribution function are studied in three Lorentz frames. We extend the previous work and derive analytic expressions for the integrated photon redistribution functions over the photon frequency. We also derive analytic expressions in the power series expansion approximation. By combining two formulas, we offer a simple and accurate tool to analyse observation data. These formulas are applicable to the non-thermal electron distributions as well as the standard the…
The latest Planck results on the power spectrum of the Compton-$y$ parameter are the most accurate probe of the thermal Sunyaev Zeldovich (tSZ) effect caused by resolved and un-resolved clusters of galaxies. On large angular scales, the power spectrum amplitude is mostly due to the statistical distribution of clusters in the sky and therefore is an indirect probe of the clustering of matter, $σ_8$, as well as the angular diameter distance that depends on other cosmological parameters such as the Hubble parameter, $h$, and the matter density $Ω_m$. Here I discuss the constraining power of the t…
We develop a model for the power spectrum of unresolved clusters of galaxies arising from the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect. The model is based on a'universal' gas pressure profile constrained by X-ray observations and includes a parameter to describe departures from self-similar evolution. The model is consistent with recent Planck observations of the tSZ effect for X-ray clusters with redshifts z<1 and reproduces the low amplitude for the tSZ inferred from recent ground based observations. By adjusting two free parameters, we are able to reproduce the tSZ power spectra from recent n…
The cosmological constraints from the kinetic Sunyaev-Zeldovich experiments are degenerate with the optical depth measurement, which is commonly known as the optical-depth degeneracy. In this work, we introduce a new statistic based on the first moment of relative velocity between pairs in a triplet, which is capable of constraining cosmological parameters independent of the optical depth, and $σ_8$. Using 22,000 $N$-body simulations from the Quijote suite, we quantify the information content in the new statistic using Fisher matrix forecast. We find that it is able to obtain strong constraint…
We use the Millennium simulation to probe the correlation between cluster velocities and their shapes and the consequences for measurements of the kinetic Sunyaev-Zeldovich (kSZ) effect. Halos are generally prolate ellipsoids with orientations that are correlated with those of nearby halos. We measure the mean streaming velocities of halos along the lines that separate them, demonstrating that the peculiar velocities and the long axes of halos tend to be somewhat aligned, especially for the most massive halos. Since the kSZ effect is proportional to the line-of-sight velocity and the optical d…
We study the multiple scattering Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) signature, extending our previous analysis to high-temperature clusters. We consistently treat the anisotropy of the ambient radiation field caused by the first scattering and also consider lowest order kinematic terms. We show that due to temperature corrections monopole through octupole anisotropy of the singly scattered SZ signal attain different spectra in the second scattering. The difference becomes more pronounced at high temperature, and thus could be used to constrain individual line of sight moments of the electron density and t…
We show the advantages of a wedding cake design for Sunyaev-Zel'dovich cluster surveys. We show that by dividing up a cluster survey into a wide and a deep survey, one can essentially recover the cosmological information that would be diluted in a single survey of the same duration due to the uncertainties in our understanding of cluster physics. The parameter degeneracy directions of the deep and wide surveys are slightly different, and combining them breaks these degeneracies effectively. A variable depth survey with a few thousand clusters is as effective at constraining cosmological parame…
Cosmography provides a direct method to map the expansion history of the Universe in a model-independent way. Recently, different kinds of observations have been used in cosmographic analyses, such as SNe Ia and gamma ray bursts measurements, weak and strong lensing, cosmic microwave background anisotropies, etc. In this work we examine the prospects for constraining cosmographic parameters from current and future measurements of galaxy clusters distances based on their Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect (SZE) and X-ray observations. By assuming the current observational error distribution, we perform M…
We investigate the impact of modified theories of gravity on the kinetic Sunyaev-Zeldovich (kSZ) effect of the cosmic microwave background. We focus on a specific class of $f(R)$ models of gravity and compare their predictions for the kSZ power spectrum to that of the $Λ$CDM model. We use a publicly available modified version of Halofit to properly include the nonlinear matter power spectrum of $f(R)$ in the modeling of the kSZ signal. We find that the well-known modifications of the growth rate of structure in $f(R)$ can indeed induce sizable changes in the kSZ signal, which are more signific…
The Planck Collaboration measured the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) decrement of optically selected clusters from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, finding that it falls significantly below expectations based on existing mass calibration of the maxBCG galaxy clusters. Resolving this tension requires either the data to go up, or the theoretical expectations to come down. Here, we use data from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) to perform an independent estimate of the SZ decrement of maxBCG clusters. The recovered signal is consistent with that obtained using Planck, though with larger erro…
The hot gas in clusters of galaxies creates a distinctive spectral distortion in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) via the Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effect. To first order, the shape of the spectral distortion is fixed, but relativistic corrections (rSZ) introduce a dependence on the gas temperature. In this paper, we extract fluxes from a sample of 47 clusters in the Planck maps and make a ~5$σ$ detection of the rSZ effect by measuring the scaling relation between the SZ amplitude (a proxy for cluster mass) and the cluster temperature. Our measurement requires no prior knowledge of the clust…
The accumulation of redshifts provides a significant observational bottleneck when using galaxy cluster surveys to constrain cosmological parameters. We propose a simple method to allow the use of samples where there is a fraction of the redshifts that are not known. The simplest assumption is that the missing redshifts are randomly extracted from the catalogue, but the method also allows one to take into account known selection effects in the accumulation of redshifts. We quantify the reduction in statistical precision of cosmological parameter constraints as a function of the fraction of mis…
Future high-resolution, high-sensitivity Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) observations of individual clusters will allow us to study the dynamical state of the intra cluster medium (ICM). To exploit the full potential of this new observational window, it is crucial to understand the different contributions to the total SZ signal. Here, we investigate the signature caused by multiple scatterings at lowest order of the electron temperature. Previous analytic discussions of this problem used the isotropic scattering approximation (ISA), which even for the simplest cluster geometries is rather rough. We tak…
We propose a new method to use the kinematic Sunyaev-Zeldovich for measuring the baryon fraction in cluster of galaxies. In this proposal we need a configuration in which a supernova Type Ia resides in a brightest cluster galaxy of intermediate redshift clusters. We show this supernova Type Ia can be used to measure the bulk velocity of a galaxy cluster. We assert that the redshift range of $0.4<z<0.6$ is suitable for this proposal. The main contribution to the deviation of standard candles distance modulus from cosmological background prediction in this redshift range comes from peculiar velo…
Consistency relations of large-scale structures provide exact nonperturbative results for cross-correlations of cosmic fields in the squeezed limit. They only depend on the equivalence principle and the assumption of Gaussian initial conditions, and remain nonzero at equal times for cross-correlations of density fields with velocity or momentum fields, or with the time derivative of density fields. We show how to apply these relations to observational probes that involve the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect or the kinematic Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. In the squeezed limit, this allows us to expres…
We study the E and B mode polarisation of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) originating from the transverse peculiar velocity of free electrons, at second order in perturbation theory, during the reionisation and post-reionisation eras. Interestingly, the spectrum of this polarised kinetic Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effect can be decomposed into a blackbody part and a y-type distortion. The y-distortion part is distinguishable from the primary E and B modes and also the lensing B modes. Furthermore, it is also differentiable from the other y-type signals, such as the thermal SZ effect, which a…
We use numerical simulations to predict the soft X-ray ([0.4-0.6] keV) and Sunyaev-Zeldovich signal (at 150 GHz) from the large scale structure in the Universe and then compute 2-point statistics to study the spatial distribution and time evolution of the signals. The average X-ray signal predicted for the WHIM is in good agreement with observational constraints that set it at about 10% of the total Diffuse X-ray Background. The characteristic angle computed with the Autocorrelation Function is of the order of some arcminutes and becomes smaller at higher redshift. The power spectrum peak of t…

We develop a machine learning algorithm that generates high-resolution thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) maps of novel galaxy clusters given only halo mass and mass accretion rate. The algorithm uses a conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE) in the form of a convolutional neural network and is trained with SZ maps generated from the IllustrisTNG simulation. Our method can reproduce many of the details of galaxy clusters that analytical models usually lack, such as internal structure and aspherical distribution of gas created by mergers, while achieving the same computational feasibility, allow…
We investigate the constraining power of current and future Sunyaev-Zeldovich cluster surveys on the f(R) gravity model. We use a Fisher matrix approach, adopt self-calibration for the mass- observable scaling relation, and evaluate constraints for the SPT, Planck, SPTPol and ACTPol surveys. The modified gravity effects on the mass function, halo bias, matter power spectrum, and mass-observable relation are taken into account. We show that, relying on number counts only, the Planck cluster catalog is expected to reduce current upper limits by about a factor of four, to σfR0 = 3 {\times} 10-5 (…
Cosmological hydrodynamical simulations predict that a large fraction of all baryons reside within mildly non-linear structures with temperatures in the range $10^{5}-10^{7}$K. As the gas is highly ionized, it could be detected by the temperature anisotropies generated on the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation. We refine our previous estimates of the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect by introducing a non-polytropic equation of state to model the temperature distribution of the shock heated gas derived from temperature-density phase diagrams of different hydrodynamical simulations. Depending …
We propose a method of searching for radio sources exhibiting the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect in the multi-frequency emission maps from the Planck mission data using a convolutional neural network. A catalog for recognizing radio sources is compiled using the GLESP pixelation scheme at the frequencies of 100, 143, 217, 353, and 545 GHz. The quality of the proposed approach is evaluated and the quality of the dependence of model data on the S/N ratio is estimated. We show that the presented neural network approach allows the detection of sources with the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. The proposed meth…
We estimate the amount of the {\it missing baryons} detected by the \Planck\ measurements of the cosmic microwave background in the direction of Central Galaxies (CGs) identified in the Sloan galaxy survey. The peculiar motion of the gas inside and around the CGs unveils values of the Thomson optical depth $τ_{\rm T}$ in the range $0.2$--$2\times 10^{-4}$, indicating that the regions probed around CGs contain roughly half of the total amount of baryons in the Universe at the epoch where the CGs are found. If baryons follow dark matter, the measured $τ_{\rm T}$s are compatible with the detectio…
We develop an estimator to extract the mean radial velocity profile of cosmic voids via the kinematic Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect of pairs of galaxies surrounding them. The estimator is tested with simulated pure kSZ map and void catalogue data from the same simulation. The results show that the recovered signal could be attenuated by low angular resolution of the map or large aperture photometry filter radius size, but the mean radial velocity profile can be fully recovered with our estimator. By applying the estimator to the Planck 2D-ILC CMB map, with galaxy and void catalogues from BOSS DR12,…
We use microwave temperature maps from two seasons of data from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACTPol) at 146 GHz, together with the Constant Mass CMASS galaxy sample from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey to measure the kinematic Sunyaev-Zeľdovich (kSZ) effect over the redshift range z = 0.4 - 0.7. We use galaxy positions and the continuity equation to obtain a reconstruction of the line-of-sight velocity field. We stack the cosmic microwave background temperature at the location of each halo, weighted by the corresponding reconstructed velocity. The resulting best fit kSZ model i…
Non-Gaussian (NG) statistics of the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect carry significant information which is not contained in the power spectrum. Here, we perform a joint Fisher analysis of the tSZ power spectrum and bispectrum to verify how much the full bispectrum can contribute to improve parameter constraints. We go beyond similar studies of this kind in several respects: first of all, we include the complete power spectrum and bispectrum (auto- and cross-) covariance in the analysis, computing all NG contributions; furthermore we consider a multi-component foreground scenario and mod…
We present a first joint analysis of the power spectra of the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect measured by the Planck and the number density fluctuations of galaxies in the 2MASS redshift survey (2MRS) catalog, including their cross-correlation. Combining these measurements with the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data and CMB lensing of Planck assuming a flat $Λ$CDM model, we constrain the mass bias parameter as $B = 1.54 \pm 0.098\;(1σ)$ [$(1-b) = 0.649 \pm 0.041$, where $(1-b) \equiv B^{-1}$], i.e., the Planck cluster mass should be $35\%$ lower than the true mass. The mass bias det…
We report the first detection of a correlation between gravitational lensing by large scale structure and the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect. Using the mass map from the Canada France Hawaii Telescope Lensing Survey (CFHTLenS) and a newly-constructed tSZ map from Planck, we measure a non-zero correlation between the two maps out to one degree angular separation on the sky, with an overall significance of 6 sigma. The tSZ maps are formed in a manner that removes primary cosmic microwave background fluctuations and minimizes residual contamination by galactic and extragalactic dust emiss…
We investigate the potential of exploiting the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect (SZE) to study the properties of hot gas in galaxy groups. It is shown that, with upcoming SZE surveys, one can stack SZE maps around galaxy groups of similar halo masses selected from large galaxy redshift surveys to study the hot gas in halos represented by galaxy groups. We use various models for the hot halo gas to study how the expected SZE signals are affected by gas fraction, equation of state, halo concentration, and cosmology. Comparing the model predictions with the sensitivities expected from the SPT, ACT and Pl…
We calculate the constraints on dark energy and cosmic modifications to gravity achievable with upcoming cosmic microwave background (CMB) surveys sensitive to the Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effects. The analysis focuses on using the mean pairwise velocity of clusters as observed through the kinematic SZ effect (kSZ), an approach based on the same methods used for the first detection of the kSZ effect, and includes a detailed derivation and discussion of this statistic's covariance under a variety of different survey assumptions. The potential of current, Stage II, and upcoming, Stage III and Stag…
We present the results of optical identifications and spectroscopic redshifts measurements for galaxy clusters from 2-nd Planck catalogue of Sunyaev-Zeldovich sources (PSZ2), located at high redshifts, $z\approx0.7-0.9$. We used the data of optical observations obtained with Russian-Turkish 1.5-m telescope (RTT150), Sayan observatory 1.6-m telescope, Calar Alto 3.5-m telescope and 6-m SAO RAS telescope (Bolshoi Teleskop Alt-azimutalnyi, BTA). Spectroscopic redshift measurements were obtained for seven galaxy clusters, including one cluster, PSZ2 G126.57+51.61, from the cosmological sample of P…
The cycle of baryons through the circumgalactic medium (CGM) is important to understand in the context of galaxy formation and evolution. In this study we forecast constraints on the feedback processes heating the CGM with current and future Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) observations. To constrain these processes, we use a suite of cosmological simulations, the Cosmology and Astrophysics with MachinE Learning Simulations (CAMELS), that varies four different feedback parameters of two previously existing hydrodynamical simulations, IllustrisTNG and SIMBA. We capture the dependencies of SZ radial profi…
Future high resolution, high sensitivity Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) observations of individual clusters will provide an exciting opportunity to answer specific questions about the dynamical state of the intra-cluster medium (ICM). In this paper we develop a new method that clearly shows the connection of the SZ signal with the underlying cluster model. We include relativistic temperature and kinematic corrections in the single-scattering approximation, allowing studies of hot clusters. In our approach, particular moments of the temperature and velocity field along the line-of-sight determine the p…
We probe the statistical isotropy hypothesis of the large-scale structure with the second Planck Sunyaev-Zeldovich (PSZ2) galaxy clusters data set. Our analysis adopts a statistical-geometrical method which compares the 2-point angular correlation function of objects in antipodal patches of the sky. Given possible observational biases, such as the presence of anisotropic sky cuts and the non-uniform exposure of Planck's instrumentation, ensembles of Monte Carlo realisations are produced in order to assess the significance of our results. When these observational effects are properly taken into…
We examine sources of scatter in scaling relations between galaxy cluster mass and thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effect using cluster samples extracted from cosmological hydrodynamical simulations. Overall, the scatter of the mass-SZ scaling relation is well correlated with the scatter in the mass-halo concentration relation with more concentrated halos having stronger integrated SZ signals at fixed mass. Additional sources of intrinsic scatter are projection effects from correlated structures, which cause the distribution of scatter to deviate from log-normality and skew it towards higher in…
We consistently include the effect of massive neutrinos in the thermal Sunyaev Zeldovich (SZ) power spectrum and cluster counts analyses, highlighting subtle dependencies on the total neutrino mass and data combination. In particular, we find that using the transfer functions for Cold Dark Matter (CDM) + baryons in the computation of the halo mass function, instead of the transfer functions including neutrino perturbations, as prescribed in recent work, yields a $\approx$ 0.25\% downward shift of the $σ_8$ constraint from tSZ power spectrum data, with a fiducial neutrino mass $Σm_ν=0.06$ eV. I…
Mass calibration uncertainty is the largest systematic effect for using clusters of galaxies to constrain cosmological parameters. We present weak lensing mass measurements from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Stripe 82 Survey for galaxy clusters selected through their high signal-to-noise thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) signal measured with the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT). For a sample of 9 ACT clusters with a tSZ signal-to-noise greater than five the average weak lensing mass is $\left(4.8\pm0.8\right)\,\times10^{14}\,\mathrm{M}_\odot$, consistent with the tSZ mass estimate of $\lef…
We perform a Fisher matrix analysis to forecast the capability of ongoing and future Sunyaev-Zeldovich cluster surveys in constraining the deviations from Gaussian distribution of primordial density perturbations. We use the constraining power of the cluster number counts and clustering properties to forecast limits on the $\fnl$ parameter. The primordial non-Gaussianity effects on the mass function and halo bias are considered. We adopt self-calibration for the mass-observable scaling relation, and evaluate constraints for the SPT, Planck, CCAT--like, SPTPol and ACTPol surveys. We show that t…
The properties of galaxy clusters as a function of redshift can be utilized as an important cosmological tool. We present initial results from a program of follow-up observations of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect (SZE) in high redshift galaxy clusters detected at infrared wavelengths in the Massive and Distant Clusters of WISE Survey (MaDCoWS). Using typical on-source integration times of 3-4 hours per cluster, MUSTANG2 on the Green Bank Telescope was able to measure strong detections of SZE decrements and statistically significant masses on 14 out of 16 targets. On the remaining two, weaker (3.…
Upcoming millimeter experiments that probe the cosmic microwave background (CMB) will observe tens of thousands of galaxy clusters through the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect. tSZ selected clusters are powerful probes of cosmological models, as they trace the late-time growth of structure. Late-time structure growth is highly sensitive to extensions to the standard cosmological model ($Λ$CDM), such as the sum of the neutrino masses, the dark energy equation of state, and modifications to general relativity. The nominal statistic used for cluster observations is their abundances as a fun…
We use the cosmo-OWLS suite of cosmological hydrodynamical simulations, which includes different galactic feedback models, to predict the cross-correlation signal between weak gravitational lensing and the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) $y$-parameter. The predictions are compared to the recent detection reported by van Waerbeke and collaborators. The simulations reproduce the weak lensing-tSZ cross-correlation, $ξ_{yκ}(θ)$, well. The uncertainty arising from different possible feedback models appears to be important on small scales only ($θ\lesssim 10$ arcmin), while the amplitude of the corr…
The presence of massive neutrinos has a characteristic impact on the growth of large scale structures such as galaxy clusters. We forecast on the capability of the number count and power spectrum measured from the ongoing and future Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) cluster surveys, combined with cosmic microwave background (CMB) observation to constrain the total neutrino mass $\mnu$ in a flat $Λ$CDM cosmology. We adopt self-calibration for the mass-observable scaling relation, and evaluate constraints for the South Pole Telescope normal and with polarization (SPT, SPTPol), Planck, and Atacama Cosmology…
It is well known that recombination radiation of primordial hydrogen-helium plasma leads to the distortions of the planckian spectrum shape of the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB). We discuss the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) effect with taking into account primordial recombination radiation (PRR). Since in the thermal SZ effect the redistribution of the photons depends on the derivatives of the spectrum, the value of relative correction to SZ effect due to PRR significantly higher than relative corrections due to PRR in the initial spectrum. Calculations of corrections to the ther…
We present panco2, an open-source Python library designed to extract galaxy cluster pressure profiles from maps of the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. The extraction is based on forward modeling of the total observed signal, allowing to take into account usual features of millimeter observations, such as beam smearing, data processing filtering, and point source contamination. panco2 offers a large flexibility in the inputs that can be handled and in the analysis options, enabling refined analyses and studies of systematic effects. We detail the functionalities of the code, the algorithm use…
In this paper, new bounds on possible variations of the fine structure constant, $α$, for a class of runaway dilaton models are performed. By considering a possible evolution with redshift, $z$, such as $\frac{Δα}α=-γ\ln(1+z)$, where in $γ$ are the physical properties of the model, we constrain this parameter by using a deformed cosmic distance duality relation jointly with gas mass fraction (GMF) measurements of galaxy clusters and luminosity distances of type Ia supernovae. The GMF's used in our analyses are from cluster mass data from 82 galaxy clusters in the redshift range $0.12<z<1.36$, …
