Zeros of exceptional Hermite polynomials

We study the zeros of exceptional Hermite polynomials associated with an even partition $λ$. We prove several conjectures regarding the asymptotic behavior of both the regular (real) and the exceptional (complex) zeros. The real zeros are distributed as the zeros of usual Hermite polynomials and, after contracting by a factor $\sqrt{2n}$, we prove that they follow the semi-circle law. The non-real zeros tend to the zeros of the generalized Hermite polynomial $H_λ$, provided that these zeros are simple. The irreducibility of some Wronskian Hermite polynomials

We study the irreducibility of Wronskian Hermite polynomials labelled by partitions. It is known that these polynomials factor as a power of x times a remainder polynomial. We show that the remainder polynomial is irreducible for the partitions (n, m) with m <= 2, and (n, n) when n + 1 is a square. Our main tools are two theorems that we prove for all partitions. The first result gives a sharp upper bound for the slope of the edges of the Newton polygon for the remainder polynomial. Are lines much bigger than line segments?

We pose the following conjecture: (*) If A is the union of line segments in R^n, and B is the union of the corresponding full lines then the Hausdorff dimensions of A and B agree. We prove that this conjecture would imply that every Besicovitch set (compact set that contains line segments in every direction) in R^n has Hausdorff dimension at least n-1 and (upper) Minkowski dimension n. We also prove that conjecture (*) holds if the Hausdorff dimension of B is at most 2, so in particular it holds in the plane.

The $p$-adic Kakeya conjecture

We prove that all bounded subsets of $\mathbb{Q}_p^n$ containing a line segment of unit length in every direction have Hausdorff and Minkowski dimension $n$. This is the analogue of the classical Kakeya conjecture with $\mathbb{R}$ replaced by $\mathbb{Q}_p$.

Restricting directions for Kakeya sets

We prove that the Kakeya maximal conjecture is equivalent to the $Ω$-Kakeya maximal conjecture. This completes a recent result in [2] where Keleti and Math{é} proved that the Kakeya conjecture is equivalent to the $Ω$-Kakeya conjecture. Moreover, we improve concrete bound on the Hausdorff dimension of a $Ω$-Kakeya set : for any Bore set $Ω$ in S n--1 , we prove that if X $\subset$ R n contains for any e $\in$ $Ω$ a unit segment oriented along e then we have dX $\ge$ 6 11 d$Ω$ + 1 where dE denotes the Hausdorff dimension of a set E.
