Using the solution phase space method, we investigate the thermodynamics of black holes in Einstein-aether-Maxwell theory, for which the traditional Wald method (covariant phase space method) fails. We show the first laws of thermodynamics and definitive entropy expressions at both Killing and universal horizons for some examples of exact black hole solutions, including 3-dimensional static charged quasi-BTZ black hole, two 4-dimensional static charged black holes and 3-dimensional rotating solution. At Killing horizons the entropies are exactly one quarter of the horizon area, but at universal horizons of 3-dimensional black holes, the entropies have a corrected term in addition to the one proportional to the horizon area.
We extend the Einstein-aether theory to include the Maxwell field in a nontrivial manner by taking into account its interaction with the time-like unit vector field characterizing the aether. We also include a generic matter term. We present a model with a Lagrangian that includes cross-terms linear and quadratic in the Maxwell tensor, linear and quadratic in the covariant derivative of the aether velocity four-vector, linear in its second covariant derivative and in the Riemann tensor. We decompose these terms with respect to the irreducible parts of the covariant derivative of the aether vel…
We consider a pp-wave symmetric model in the framework of the Einstein-Maxwell-aether-axion theory. Exact solutions to the equations of axion electrodynamics are obtained for the model, in which pseudoscalar, electric and magnetic fields were constant before the arrival of a gravitational pp-wave. We show that dynamo-optical interactions, i.e. couplings of the electromagnetic field to a dynamic unit vector field, attributed to the velocity of a cosmic substratum (aether, vacuum, dark fluid...), provide the response of axionically active electrodynamic system to display anomalous behavior.
We study the quasi-normal modes of the charged scalar perturbations in the background of the Einstein-Maxwell-aether black hole through three methods (WKB method, continued fraction method, generalized eigenvalue method). Then we propose the specific treatment for the generalized effective potential with $ω$-dependence and the complete procedure of transforming calculation continued fraction method into finding the zero point of the corresponding complex function numerically. These methods are valid because the results from different methods are consistent. We also investigate the allowed regi…
The extended Einstein-Maxwell-aether-axion model describes internal interactions inside the system, which contains gravitational, electromagnetic fields, the dynamic unit vector field describing the velocity of an aether, and the pseudoscalar field associated with the axionic dark matter. The specific feature of this model is that the axion field controls the dynamics of the aether through the guiding functions incorporated into the Jacobson's constitutive tensor. Depending on the state of the axion field these guiding functions can control and switch on or switch off the influence of accelera…
In the framework of the Einstein-Maxwell-aether theory, we present two new classes of exact charged black hole solutions, which are asymptotically flat and possess the universal as well as Killing horizons. We also construct the Smarr formulas, and calculate the temperatures of the horizons, using the Smarr mass-area relation. We find that, in contrast to the neutral case, such obtained temperature is not proportional to its surface gravity at any of the two kinds of the horizons. Einstein-Maxwell-aether black holes with the cosmological constant and their topological cousins are also given.
Aether theory is introduced to implement the violation of the Lorentz invariance in general relativity. For this purpose a unit timelike vector field introduced to theory in addition to the metric tensor. Aether theory contains four free parameters which satisfy some inequalities in order that the theory to be consistent with the observations. We show that the G{\" o}del type of metrics of general relativity are also exact solutions of the Einstein-aether theory. The only field equations are the 3-dimensional Maxwell field equations and the parameters are left free except $c_{1}-c_{3}=1$.
It was previously proved that the Gödel-type metrics with flat three-dimensional background metric solve exactly the field equations of the Einstein-Aether theory in four dimensions. We generalize this result by showing that the stationary Gödel-type metrics with nonflat background in $D$ dimensions solve exactly the field equations of the Einstein-Aether theory. The reduced field equations are the $(D-1)$-dimensional Euclidean Ricci-flat and the $(D-1)$-dimensional source-free Maxwell equations, and the parameters of the theory are left free except $c_{1}-c_{3}=1$. We give a method to produce…
The SU(N)-symmetric generalization of the model of the electromagnetically active dynamic aether is formulated. This generalization is based on the introduction of a Yang-Mills gauge field instead of the Maxwell field, and of a SU(N)-multiplet of vector fields instead of the standard single vector field. In the framework of the second order version of the effective field theory this generalization includes three constitutive tensors, which are the SU(N) extensions of the tensors appeared in the Einstein-Maxwell-aether theory; we reconstructed the full-format set of these constitutive tensors. …
Statistical entropies of a general relativistic ideal gas obeying Maxwell-Boltzmann, Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics are calculated in a general axisymmetry space-time of arbitrary dimension. This general formation can be used to discuss the entropy of a quantum field not only in the flat space-time but also in a curved space-time. It can also be used to compare the entropies in different dimensional space-times. Analytical expressions for the thermodynamic potentials are presented, and their behaviors in the high or low temperature approximation are discussed. The entropy of a quantu…
We propose that Strominger's method to derive the BTZ black hole entropy is in fact applicable to other asymptotically AdS_3 black holes and gives the correct functional form of entropies. We discuss various solutions in the Einstein-Maxwell theory, dilaton gravity, Einstein-scalar theories, and Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory. In some cases, solutions approach AdS_3 asymptotically, but their entropies do not have the form of Cardy's formula. However, it turns out that they are actually not "asymptotically $AdS_3$" solutions. On the other hand, for truly asymptotically AdS_3 solutions, their e…
We study analytically quantum tunneling of relativistic and non-relativistic particles at both Killing and universal horizons of Einstein-Maxwell-aether black holes, after high-order curvature corrections are taken into account, for which the dispersion relation of the particles becomes nonlinear. Our results at the Killing horizons confirm the previous ones, i.e., at high frequencies the corresponding radiation remains thermal and the nonlinearity of the dispersion does not alter the Hawking radiation significantly. In contrary, non-relativistic particles are created at universal horizons and…
In this paper we present the construction of the Maxwell equal area law in the Hawking temperature graph for a charged black hole in Anti-deSitter background. We are able to find exact solution for the corresponding isotherm and entropies for "gaseous" (large) black holes and "liquid" (near-extremal) black holes. Isothermal construction removes the unphysical, negative heat capacity, regions. Furthermore, extremal black holes turn out to be dual to "un-shrinkable" molecules of Van der Waals real fluid, which may explain their thermodynamical stability.
Three dimensional Gödel black hole is a solution to Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with a negative cosmological constant. We have studied the hidden conformal symmetry for massive scalar field without any additional condition in the background of three dimensional non-extremal and extremal Gödel black holes. This conformal symmetry is uncovered by the observation that the radial wave equations in both cases can all be rewritten in the form of $SL(2, R)$ Casimir operators through introducing two sets of conformal coordinates to write the $SL(2, R)$ generators. At last, we give the hologra…
We find analytic solutions of hyperbolic black holes with scalar hair in anti-de Sitter (AdS) space, and they do not have spherical or planar counterparts. The system is obtained by taking a neutral limit of an Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system whose special cases are maximal gauged supergravities, while the dilaton is kept nontrivial. There are phase transitions between these black holes and the hyperbolic Schwarzschild-AdS black hole. We discuss two AdS/CFT applications of these hyperbolic black holes. One is phase transitions of holographic Renyi entropies, and the other is phase transitions …
Black holes are famous for their universal behavior. New thermodynamic relations have been found recently for the product of gravitational entropies over all the horizons of a given stationary black hole. This product has been found to be independent of the mass for all such solutions of Einstein-Maxwell theory in d=4,5. We study the universality of this mass independence by introducing a number of possible higher curvature corrections to the gravitational action. We consider finite temperature black holes with both asymptotically flat and (A)dS boundary conditions. Although we find examples f…
We use the entropy function formalism introduced by A. Sen to obtain the entropy of $AdS_{2}\times S^{d-2}$ extremal and static black holes in four and five dimensions, with higher derivative terms of a general type. Starting from a generalized Einstein--Maxwell action with nonzero cosmological constant, we examine all possible scalar invariants that can be formed from the complete set of Riemann invariants (up to order 10 in derivatives). The resulting entropies show the deviation from the well known Bekenstein--Hawking area law $S=A/4G$ for Einstein's gravity up to second order derivatives.
In the paper we further refine the thermodynamics method of black hole/CFT correspondence. We show that one can derive the central charges of different holographic pictures directly from the entropy product $S_+S_-$ if it is mass-independent, for a black hole in the Einstein gravity or the gravity without diffeomorphism anomaly. For a general black hole in the Einstein gravity that admits holographic descriptions, we show that the thermodynamics method and asymptotic symmetry group (ASG) analysis can always give consistent results in the extreme limit. Furthermore, we discuss the relation betw…
The action for a class of three-dimensional dilaton-gravity theories, with an electromagnetic Maxwell field and a cosmological constant, can be recast in a Brans-Dicke-Maxwell type action, with its free $ω$ parameter. For a negative cosmological constant, these theories have static, electrically charged, and spherically symmetric black hole solutions. Those theories with well formulated asymptotics are studied through a Hamiltonian formalism, and their thermodynamical properties are found. The theories studied are general relativity, a dimensionally reduced cylindrical four-dimensional general…
The Anti-de Sitter-Reissner-Nordstrom (AdS-RN) black hole in the canonical ensemble undergoes a phase transition similar to the liquid-gas phase transition, i.e. the isocharges on the entropy-temperature plane develop an unstable branch when the charge is smaller than a critical value. It was later discovered that the isocharges on the entanglement entropy-temperature plane also exhibit the same van der Waals-like structure, for spherical entangling regions. In this paper, we present numerical results which sharpen this similarity between entanglement entropy and black hole entropy, by showing…
This thesis is divided in two parts, each one addressing problems that can be relevant in the study of compact objects. The first part deals with the study of a magnetized and self-gravitating gas of degenerated fermions (electrons and neutrons) as sources of a Bianchi-I space-time. We solve numerically the Einstein-Maxwell field equations for a large set of initial conditions of the dynamical variables. The collapsing singularity is isotropic for the neutron gas and can be anisotropic for the electron gas. This result is consistent with the fact that electrons exhibit a stronger coupling with…
