We present measurements of single- and double-differential cross-sections in $t\bar{t}$ final states in the lepton+jets channel, unfolded to particle and parton levels with both resolved and boosted topologies considered. Fully corrected spectra are presented as functions of the top-quark as well as $t\bar{t}$ system kinematic variables and jet multiplicities in data from pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV collected in 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to integrated luminosity of $36\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ . Measurements provided detailed information on the top-quark production and decay, enabling precision tests of modern Monte Carlo generators as well as latest fixed-order Standard Model predictions. Good agreement between the theoretical predictions and the data is observed within reduced systematic uncertainties w.r.t. previous ATLAS measurements.

We present preliminary results for the search for the top quark in D-Zero in the electron + jets channel where one of the b quark jets is tagged by means of a soft muon, using 13.5 pb-1 of data. Standard model decay modes for the top quark are assumed. We present the resulting top cross section and error as a function of top mass using this channel combined with the dilepton channel and the untagged lepton + jets channel . At present, no significant signal for top quark production can be established.
The top quark mass has been measured using the template method in the top antitop -> lepton + jets channel based on data recorded in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The data were taken at a proton-proton centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.04/fb. The analyses in the electron + jets and muon + jets decay channels yield consistent results. The top quark mass is measured to be m_top = 174.5 +/- 0.6_stat +/- 2.3_syst GeV.
This Letter reports measurements of differential cross sections for the production of two Z bosons in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 8 and 13 TeV. The analysis is based on data samples collected at the LHC with the CMS detector, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 19.7 and 35.9 fb$^{-1}$ at 8 and 13 TeV, respectively. The measurements are performed in the leptonic decay modes ZZ $\to\ell^+ \ell^- \ell'^+ \ell'^-$, where $\ell,\ell' =$ e, $μ$. The differential cross sections as a function of the jet multiplicity, the transverse momentum $p_\mathrm{T}$,…
Cross section predictions of W and Z bosons in association with jets (up to 6 jets, $W\to\ell^{\pm}ν$ and $Z\to\ell^{\pm}$ where $\ell^{\pm}$=$e^{\pm}$ or $μ^{\pm}$) in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=14 TeV is performed using Alpgen MC generator with CTEQ6L1 leading order parton distribution function. In addition, W and Z boson cross sections are obtained up to next to next to leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections using MCFM MC generator. To validate the predictions, a detailed comparison of NNLO QCD calculations with 8 TeV CMS results for total cross section is performed and a fiducial…
Evidence is presented for the electroweak (EW) production of two jets (jj) in association with two Z bosons and constraints on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are set. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 13 TeV collected with the CMS detector in 2016-2018, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb$^{-1}$. The search is performed in the fully leptonic final state ZZ $\to$ $\ell\ell\ell'\ell'$, where $\ell,\ell' = $ e, $μ$. The EW production of two jets in association with two Z bosons is measured with an observed (expected) signifi…
We present the first exclusive observation of the ttbar to hadronic tau + jets decay channel. Using these events from 1.96 TeV ppbar collisions at CDF, we measure the ttbar cross section as well as the top quark mass. Events require a single hadronic tau, large missing transverse energy, and exactly 4 jets of which at least one must be tagged as a b jet. The cross section measurement is extracted from a Poisson likelihood function based on the observed number of events and the predicted number of signal and background events for a given ttbar cross section. The mass is extracted from a likelih…
We have used the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF II) to search for the flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) top quark decay ${t\goes Zc}$ using a technique employing ratios of $W$ and $Z$ production, measured in \ppbar data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.52 $fb^{-1}$. The analysis uses a comparison of two decay chains, ${p\bar{p}\goes t\bar{t}\goes WbWb\goes\ellνbjjb}$ and ${p\bar{p}\goes t\bar{t}\goes ZcWb\goes\ell\ell cjjb}$, to cancel systematic uncertainties in acceptance, efficiency, and luminosity. We validate the modeling of acceptance and efficiency for lepton iden…
We present a measurement of the mass of the top quark using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9fb^-1 of ppbar collisions collected at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV with the CDF II detector at Fermilab's Tevatron. This is the first measurement of the top quark mass using top-antitop pair candidate events in the lepton + jets and dilepton decay channels simultaneously. We reconstruct two observables in each channel and use a non-parametric kernel density estimation technique to derive two-dimensional probability density functions from simulated signal and background samples. The observables…
We report a measurement of the charge asymmetry in top quark pair production with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC using 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collision data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV. The data are unfolded using a fully Bayesian unfolding method. Differential measurements of the charge asymmetry are performed.
A search has been performed for scalar top quark pair production in the lepton+jets channel in ~1 fb^(-1) of data. Kinematic differences between the exotic stop-stopbar and the dominant ttbar process are used to separate the two possible contributions. For scalar top quark masses of 145-175 GeV and chargino masses of 105-135 GeV we obtain upper cross section limits at 95% confidence level for stop-stopbar production that are a factor of ~7-12 higher than expected for the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM).
In this note we present a measurement of the VZ (V=W,Z) production cross section in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$8 TeV in the VZ$\rightarrow$V$b\bar{b}$ decay mode with V$=$Z$\rightarrow (ν\barν$,$\ell\ell$), V$=$W$\rightarrow \ellν$, ($\ell=e,μ$). The results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 18.9 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the CMS experiment. The process is observed for the first time in this particular final state with a significance exceeding six standard deviations ($σ$). The measured cross sections are consistent with the predictions of NLO calculatio…
A top quark mass measurement is performed using 35.9 fb$^{-1}$ of LHC proton-proton collision data collected with the CMS detector at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV. The measurement uses the $\mathrm{t\overline{t}}$ all-jets final state. A kinematic fit is performed to reconstruct the decay of the $\mathrm{t\overline{t}}$ system and suppress the multijet background. Using the ideogram method, the top quark mass ($m_\mathrm{t}$) is determined, simultaneously constraining an additional jet energy scale factor (JSF). The resulting value of $m_\mathrm{t}$ = 172.34 $\pm$ 0.20 (stat+JSF) $\pm$ 0.70 (syst) GeV …
We present the first direct search for single top quark production using tau leptons. The search is based on 4.8 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=1.96 TeV with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with a final state including an isolated tau lepton, missing transverse energy, two or three jets, one or two of them $b$ tagged. We use a multivariate technique to discriminate signal from background. The number of events observed in data in this final state is consistent with the signal plus background expectation. We…
A measurement of WZ electroweak (EW) vector boson scattering is presented. The measurement is performed in the leptonic decay modes WZ $\to$ $\ellν\ell'\ell'$, where $\ell, \ell' = $ e, $μ$. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV at the LHC collected with the CMS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb$^{-1}$. The WZ plus two jet production cross section is measured in fiducial regions with enhanced contributions from EW production and found to be consistent with standard model predictions. The EW WZ production in ass…

The measurement is performed in lepton+jets final states using a new kinematic fitting algorithm for events with four or more jets and a new partial reconstruction algorithm for events with only three jets. Corrected for detector acceptance and resolution effects, the asymmetry is evaluated to be 10.6+-3.0 %. Results are consistent with the standard model predictions which range from 5.0% to 8.8%. We also present the de…

We measure the inclusive cross section to be $1.41^{+0.44}_{-0.42}\mathrm{(stat+syst)} \mathrm{pb}$ assuming $m_t = 172.5 \mathrm{GeV}/c^2$.
Search for nonresonant new physics signals in high-mass dilepton events produced in association with b-tagged jets in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV
Recently ATLAS reported a $3.3σ$ excess in the stop search with $\ell+jets+E_T^{miss}$ channel. We try to interpret the signal by a light stop pair production in the MSSM. We find: (1) simple models where stop decays into a higgsino or a bino are not favored. (2) an extension of them can explain the data at $2σ$ level without conflicting with the other search channels. A surviving possibility includes a light stop and a light higgsino, which is expected in a natural SUSY scenario.
The inclusive $t\bar{t}$ production cross-section is measured in the lepton+jets channel using 20.2 fb$^{-1}$ of proton--proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Major systematic uncertainties due to the modelling of the jet energy scale and $b$-tagging efficiency are constrained by separating selected events into three disjoint regions. In order to reduce systematic uncertainties in the most important background, the W+jets process is modelled using Z+jets events in a data-based approach. The inclusive $t\bar{t}$ cross-section is m…
We present results of a search for R-parity-violating decay of the neutralino chi_1^0, taken to be the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle. It is assumed that this decay proceeds through one of the lepton-number violating couplings lambda-prime_2jk (j=1,2; k=1,2,3). This search is based on 77.5 pb-1 of data, collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.8 TeV in 1992-1995.
A search is presented for standard model (SM) production of four top quarks ($t\bar{t}t\bar{t}$) in pp collisions in the lepton + jets channel. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb$^{-1}$ recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. A combination of kinematic reconstruction and multivariate techniques is used to distinguish between the small signal and large background. The data are consistent with expectations of the SM, and an upper limit of 32 fb is set at a 95\% confidence level on the cross section for producing four top quarks …

No conclusive evidence for top quark production for an integrated luminosity of 13.5+/-1.6pb-1 is observed.
The top-quark pair production cross section in 7 TeV center-of-mass energy proton-proton collisions is measured using data collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurement uses events with one jet identified as a hadronically decaying tau lepton and at least four additional energetic jets, at least one of which is identified as coming from a b quark. The analyzed data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.9 inverse femtobarns recorded by a dedicated multijet plus hadronically decaying tau trigger. The top quark mass was measured in the channels $t\bar{t} \to \mathrm{lepton+jets}$ and $t\bar{t} \to \mathrm{dilepton}$ (lepton=$e, μ$) based on ATLAS data recorded in 2011. The data were taken at the LHC with a proton--proton centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6fb$^{-1}$. The $t\bar{t} \to \mathrm{lepton+jets}$ analysis uses a three-dimensional template technique which determines the top quark mass together with a global jet energy scale factor (JSF), and a relative $b$-to-light-jet energy scale factor (bJSF), where the terms $b$-jets an…
We present, in detail, a search for the standard model Higgs boson, $H$, in final states with a charged lepton (electron or muon), missing energy, and two or more jets in data corresponding to 9.7 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected at a center of mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.96 TeV with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ Collider. The search uses $b$-jet identification to categorize events for improved signal versus background separation and is sensitive to associated production of the $H$ with a $W$ boson, $WH\to\ellνb\bar{b}$; gluon fusion with the Higgs decaying …
The top quark mass is measured using a template method in the $t\bar{t}\to$ lepton+jets channel (lepton is $e$ or $μ$) using ATLAS data recorded in 2012 at the LHC. The data were taken at a proton-proton centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb$^{-1}$. The $t\bar{t}\to$ lepton+jets channel is characterized by the presence of a charged lepton, a neutrino and four jets, two of which originate from bottom quarks ($b$). We present a measurement of the mass of the top quark from ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV observed with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) at the Fermilab Tevatron Run II. The events have the decay signature of ppbar to ttbar in the lepton plus jets channel in which at least one jet is identified as coming from a secondary vertex and therefore a b-hadron. The largest systematic uncertainty, the jet energy scale (JES), is convoluted with the statistical error using an in-situ measurement of the hadronic W boson mass. We calculate a likelihood for each event using leading-order ttbar and W+je…

For every event a top quark mass likelihood is calculated taking into account all possible jet assignments and the probability that an event is signal or background. Lifetime-based identification of b jets is employed to enhance the separation between t-tbar signal and …
This letter reports a measurement of the top quark mass, M_{top}, in data from p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV corresponding to 2.7 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity at the Fermilab Tevatron using the CDF II detector. Events with the lepton+jets topology are selected. An unbinned likelihood is constructed based on the dependence of the lepton transverse momentum, P_T, on M_{top}. A maximum likelihood fit to the data yields a measured mass M_{top} = (176.9 +/- 8.0 stat +/- 2.7 syst) GeV/c^2. In this measurement, the contribution by the jet energy scale uncertainty to the systematic error…
This paper presents a study of the production of $WW$ or $WZ$ boson pairs, with one $W$ boson decaying to $eν$ or $μν$ and one $W$ or $Z$ boson decaying hadronically. The analysis uses 20.2 fb$^{-1}$ of $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV $pp$ collision data, collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Cross-sections for $WW/WZ$ production are measured in high-$p_{T}$ fiducial regions defined close to the experimental event selection. The measurement is based on an integrated luminosity of about 330 ${\rm pb}^{-1}$. A cross section times branching ratio of $σ(Z+b {\rm jets}) \times {\cal B}(Z \to \ell^+ \ell^-)= 0.93 \pm 0.36$ pb is found, where ${\cal B}(Z\to \ell^+ \…
The LEP centre of mass energy has been increased since 1996 in the aim of producing the Higgs boson. We present a measurement of tbar-t production using multijet final states in pbar-p collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV, with an integrated luminosity of 110.3 pb(-1). The analysis has been optimized using neural networks to achieve the smallest expected fractional uncertainty on the tbar-t production cross section, and yields a cross section of 7.1 +/- 2.8(stat.) +/- 1.5(syst.) pb, assuming a top quark mass of 172.1 GeV/c^(2). Combining this result with previous D0 measurements, where one or both of the W bosons decay leptonically, gives a tbar-t production cross section of 5.9 +…

We present new results on the search for the top quark in p anti-p collisions at S**(1/2) = 1.8 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 13.5 +- 1.6 pb**(-1). We have considered t anti-t production in the Standard Model using electron and muon dilepton decay channels (t anti-t -> e mu + jets, e e + jets, and mu mu + jets) and single-lepton decay channels (t anti-t -> e + jets and mu + jets) with and without tagging of b quark jets. From all channels, we have 9 events with an expected background of 3.8 +- 0.9. If we assume that the excess is due to t anti-t production, and assuming a top mass of 18…
The ATLAS Collaboration has reported the first results of the search for SUSY particles in 1-lepton + 3 jets + MET final states. An essential ingredient for these results is a reliable background estimation in the signal region, in particular of the ttbar, W+jets and QCD backgrounds. The estimation of these three backgrounds is explained in this paper. The ttbar and W+jets backgrounds are obtained from a background dominated control region and extrapolated to the signal region, whereas for the estimation of the QCD background a matrix method is used.

The search is performed in the electron+jets and muon+jets decay channels, with one or more b-tagged jets, on nearly 370 pb^{-1} of D0 Run II data collected between August 2002 and October 2004. Impact-parameter based b-quark tagging is used to select signal-like events. We use a likelihood discriminant method to separate signals from backgrounds. The resulting expected/observed 95% confidence level upper limits on the single top quark production cross sections are 3.3/5.0pb (s-chan…
Measurements of differential cross-sections of top-quark pair production in fiducial phase-spaces are presented as a function of top-quark and $t\bar{t}$ system kinematic observables in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $3.2$ fb${}^{-1}$, recorded in 2015 with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Events with exactly one electron or muon and at least two jets in the final state are used for the measurement. Two separate selections are applied that each focus on different top-quark mo…

Diboson production in this decay channel has yet to be observed at hadron colliders due to the large single W plus jets background. The production of top-quark pairs that subsequently decay hadronically and leptonically (lepton+jets channel) is one of the key processes for the study of top-quark properties at the LHC. In this article, NLO QCD corrections of order $\mathcal{O}{\left(α_{\rm s}^3α^{4}\right)}$ to the hadronic process ${\rm p}{\rm p}\to μ^-\barν_μ{\rm b}\bar{\rm b} {\rm j} {\rm j}$ are presented. The computation includes off-shell as well as non-resonant contributions, and experimental event selections are used in order to provide realistic predictions. The results are provided in the form of cross sections an…
How massive elementary particles get their mass is one of the greatest open questions in physics. Two of the major goals of the current LEP2 physics program that help to address this question are (a) to measure as precisely as possible the W Boson mass mW and (b) to exclude or discover the Higgs Boson within the available kinematic region. The reconstruction of invariant masses with jets from 4-jet channels (e.g. WW -> q qbar q qbar and HZ -> b bbar q qbar) and missing energy channels (e.g WW -> e nu q qbar and e+e- -> H nu nubar) is discussed. The emphasis is on the determination of mW, from …
