In this paper, we study tradeoffs between curve complexity and area of Right Angle Crossing drawings (RAC drawings), which is a challenging theoretical problem in graph drawing. Given a graph with $n$ vertices and $m$ edges, we provide a RAC drawing algorithm with curve complexity $6$ and area $O(n^{2.75})$, which takes time $O(n+m)$. Our algorithm improves the previous upper bound $O(n^3)$, by Di Giacomo et al., on the area of RAC drawings.

Planar Lombardi Drawings for Subcubic Graphs

We prove that every planar graph with maximum degree three has a planar drawing in which the edges are drawn as circular arcs that meet at equal angles around every vertex. Our construction is based on the Koebe-Thurston-Andreev circle packing theorem, and uses a novel type of Voronoi diagram for circle packings that is invariant under Moebius transformations, defined using three-dimensional hyperbolic geometry. Drawing Subcubic 1-Planar Graphs with Few Bends, Few Slopes, and Large Angles

We show that the 1-planar slope number of 3-connected cubic 1-planar graphs is at most 4 when edges are drawn as polygonal curves with at most 1 bend each. This bound is obtained by drawings whose vertex and crossing resolution is at least $π/4$. On the other hand, if the embedding is fixed, then there is a 3-connected cubic 1-planar graph that needs 3 slopes when drawn with at most 1 bend per edge. An IC-plane graph is a topological graph where every edge is crossed at most once and no two crossed edges share a vertex. We show that every IC-plane graph has a visibility drawing where every vertex is an L-shape, and every edge is either a horizontal or vertical segment. As a byproduct of our drawing technique, we prove that an IC-plane graph has a RAC drawing in quadratic area with at most two bends per edge.
