We analyze the many-particle Schrodinger equation for fermions in a thermal ensemble by introducing an exponential operator expansion, defined in the context of thermofield dynamics. The expansion is optimized variationally at each time step through changes in the basis of excitations, which leads to a method of generating approximate differential equations to solve the time dependent problem, and can also be used to cool the system in imaginary time. The method is applied for a specific set of basis transformations and truncation scheme, leading to an explicit set of differential equations that reduce to the Hartree Fock solution in the low temperature limit. This procedure can also be generalized to include quantum correlation, which will be pursued in a future publication.
In this work we show the existence of supersymmetry and degeneracy for an arbitrary number of Majorana fermions (even or odd) without to invoke any symmetry of Hamiltonian. Next, we analyze the supersymmetry at finite temperature using the thermofield dynamics formalism. Furthermore we derive thermal braiding operators through the Bogoliubov transformations and we find its action on a thermal Bell state.
We consider the Thermofield Dynamics bosonization to perform a field theory analysis of the effective Lagrangian model for incommensurate charge density waves (ICDW) in one-dimensional systems at finite temperature. The phonon degree of freedom is carryied by a dynamical phase field, contributing to the quantum dynamics and symmetry related features of the ICDW phenomenon. The electron chiral density and the phase of the phonon field condensate as a thermal soliton, carrying the symmetry under the linked electron-phonon $U_e^5(1) \otimes U_{ph}(1)$ global transformations. Using the Gell'Mann-L…
We study the entanglement dynamics of thermofield double (TFD) states in integrable spin chains and quantum field theories. We show that, for a natural choice of the Hamiltonian eigenbasis, the TFD evolution may be interpreted as a quantum quench from an initial state which is low-entangled in the real-space representation and displays a simple quasiparticle structure. Based on a semiclassical picture analogous to the one developed for standard quantum quenches, we conjecture a formula for the entanglement dynamics, which is valid for both discrete and continuous integrable field theories, and…
The recent discovery of quantum many-body scar states has revealed the possibility of having states with low entanglement that violate the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis in nonintegrable systems. Such states with low entanglement entropy are rare but naturally exist in the integrable system of free fermions. Here, we demonstrate analytically that these atypical states would be always eliminated when an arbitrary weak interaction is introduced between the fermions. In particular, we show that the probability of having a many-body scar state with entanglement entropy satisfying a sub-volum…
The Lindblad equation is commonly used for studying quantum dynamics in open systems that cannot be completely isolated from an environment, relevant to a broad variety of research fields, such as atomic physics, materials science, quantum biology and quantum information and computing. For electrons in condensed matter systems, the Lindblad dynamics is intractable even if their mutual Coulomb repulsion could somehow be switched off. This is because they would still be able to affect each other by interacting with the bath. Here, we develop an approximate approach, based on the Hubbard-Stratono…
We consider a system of one-dimensional non-interacting fermions in external harmonic confinement. Using an efficient Green's function method we evaluate the exact profiles and the pair correlation function, showing a direct signature of the Fermi statistics and of the single quantum-level occupancy. We also study the dynamical properties of the gas, obtaining the spectrum both in the collisionless and in the collisional regime. Our results apply as well to describe a one-dimensional Bose gas with point-like hard-core interactions.
The thermodynamical properties are calculated for a three-dimensional model of $N$ harmonically interacting spin-polarized fermions in a parabolic potential well. The obtained dependences of the chemical potential and of the internal energy on the complete range of the temperature and of the number of particles turn out to obey a scaling law, similar to the scaling from the continuum approximation for the density of states. The calculation technique is based on our path integral approach of symmetrized density matrices for identical particles in a parabolic confining well.
A simple equivalent circuit, which describes transport properties of a Two Dimensional Electron Gas in the Fractional Quantum Hall regime is presented. The physical justifications for this equivalent circuit are discussed in the frame work of the non-interacting Composite Fermions model. Quantum Shot Noise at an arbitrary filling factor and temperature is readily calculated.
We study the nature of many-body eigenstates of a system of interacting chiral spinless fermions on a ring. We find a coexistence of fermionic and bosonic types of eigenstates in parts of the many-body spectrum. Some bosonic eigenstates, native to the strong interaction limit, persist at intermediate and weak couplings, enabling persistent density oscillations in the system, despite it being far from integrability.
Entanglement measures such as the entanglement entropy have become an indispensable tool to identify the fundamental character of ground states of interacting quantum many-body systems. For systems of interacting spin or bosonic degrees of freedom much recent progress has been made not only in the analytical description of their respective entanglement entropies but also in their numerical classification. Systems of interacting fermionic degrees of freedom however have proved to be more difficult to control, in particular with regard to the numerical understanding of their entanglement propert…
We consider systems of weakly interacting fermions on a lattice. The corresponding free fermionic system is assumed to have a ground state separated by a gap from the rest of the spectrum. We prove that, if both the interaction and the free Hamiltonian are sums of sufficiently rapidly decaying terms, and if the interaction is sufficiently weak, then the interacting system has a spectral gap as well, uniformly in the lattice size. Our approach relies on convergent fermionic perturbation theory, thus providing an alternative method to the one used recently in [MB Hastings. arXiv:1706.02270], and…
Introducing the fermionic R-operator and solutions of the inverse scattering problem for local fermion operators, we derive a multiple integral representation for zero-temperature correlation functions of a one-dimensional interacting spinless fermion model. Correlation functions particularly considered are the one-particle Green's function and the density-density correlation function both for any interaction strength and for arbitrary particle densities. In particular for the free fermion model, our formulae reproduce the known exact results. Form factors of local fermion operators are also c…
We formulate correlation functions for a one-dimensional interacting spinless fermion model at finite temperature. By combination of a lattice path integral formulation for thermodynamics with the algebraic Bethe ansatz for fermion systems, the equal-time one-particle Green's function at arbitrary particle density is expressed as a multiple integral form. Our formula reproduces previously known results in the following three limits: the zero-temperature, the infinite-temperature and the free fermion limits.
In this paper, Non-Equilibrium Steady State induced by electric field and the conductivity of non-interacting fermion systems under the dissipative dynamics is discussed. The dissipation is taken into account within a framework of the quantum dynamical semigroup introduced by Davies (1977). We obtain a formula of the conductivity for the stationary state, which is applicable to arbitrary potentials. Our formula gives a justification of an adiabatic factor which is often introduced in practical calculation using Kubo formula. In addition the conductivity of crystals (i.e. periodic potentials) i…
As an intrinsically-unbiased approach, quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) is of vital importance in understanding correlated phases of matter. Unfortunately, it often suffers notorious sign problem when simulating interacting fermion models. Here, we show for the first time that there exist interacting fermion models whose sign problem becomes less severe for larger system sizes and eventually disappears in the thermodynamic limit, which we dub as "asymptotic sign free". We demonstrate asymptotically-free sign in determinant QMC for various interacting models. Moreover, based on renormalization-group-l…
We introduce and study a lattice fermion model in one dimension with explicit $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetry (SUSY). The Hamiltonian of the model is defined by the square of a supercharge built from Majorana fermion operators. The model describes interacting Majorana fermions and its properties depend only on a single parameter $g$. When $g=1$, we find that SUSY is unbroken and the ground states are identical to those of the frustration-free Kitaev chains. We also find a parameter regime in which SUSY is restored in the infinite volume limit. For sufficiently large $g$, we prove that SUSY is sp…
A nonlinear transformation approach is formulated for the correlated fermions' thermodynamics through a medium-scaling effective action. An auxiliary implicit variable-effective chemical potential is introduced to characterize the non-Gaussian fluctuations physics. By incorporating the nonlocal correlation effects, the achieved grand partition function is made of coupled highly nonlinear parametric equations. Analytically, the low temperature expansions for the strongly interacting unitary Fermi gas are performed for the adiabatic compressibility-sound speed and specific heat with the Sommerfe…
