Building Efficient and Compact Data Structures for Simplicial Complexes

The Simplex Tree (ST) is a recently introduced data structure that can represent abstract simplicial complexes of any dimension and allows efficient implementation of a large range of basic operations on simplicial complexes. In this paper, we show how to optimally compress the Simplex Tree while retaining its functionalities. In addition, we propose two new data structures called the Maximal Simplex Tree (MxST) and the Simplex Array List (SAL). We analyze the compressed Simplex Tree, the Maximal Simplex Tree, and the Simplex Array List under various settings.

Computing discrete Morse complexes from simplicial complexes

We consider the problem of efficiently computing a discrete Morse complex on simplicial complexes of arbitrary dimension and very large size. Based on a common graph-based formalism, we analyze existing data structures for simplicial complexes, and we define an efficient encoding for the discrete Morse gradient on the most compact of such representations. Invariant Representations of Embedded Simplicial Complexes

Analyzing embedded simplicial complexes, such as triangular meshes and graphs, is an important problem in many fields. We propose a new approach for analyzing embedded simplicial complexes in a subdivision-invariant and isometry-invariant way using only topological and geometric information. Our approach is based on creating and analyzing sufficient statistics and uses a graph neural network. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach using a synthetic mesh data set.
