The isotope $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $, the generator of $ {}^{99m} \rm{Tc} $ used for diagnostic imaging, is supplied by extracting from fission fragments of highly enriched uranium in reactors. However, a reactor-free production method of $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ is searched over the world from the point of view of nuclear proliferation. Recently, $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ production through a muon capture reaction was proposed and it was found that about $ 50 \, \% $ of $ {}^{100} \rm{Mo} $ turned into $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ through $ {}^{100} \rm{Mo} \left( μ^-, n \right) $ reaction [arXiv:1908.08166]. However, the detailed physical process of the muon capture reaction is not completely understood. We, therefore, study the muon capture reaction of $ ^{100} \rm{Mo} $ by a theoretical approach. We used the proton-neutron QRPA to calculate the muon capture rate. The muon wave function is calculated with considering the electronic distribution of the atom and the nuclear charge distribution. The particle evaporation process from the daughter nucleus is calculated by a statistical model. From the model calculation, about $ 38 \, \% $ of $ {}^{100} \rm{Mo} $ is converted to $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ through the muon capture reaction, which is in a reasonable agreement with the experimental data. It is revealed that negative parity states, especially $ 1^- $ state, play an important role in $ {}^{100} \rm{Mo} \left( μ^-, n \right) {}^{99} \rm{Nb} $. The feasibility of $ {}^{99} \rm{Mo} $ production by the muon capture reaction is also discussed. Isotope production by the muon capture reaction strongly depends on the nuclear structure.
Rare isotopes are most often studied through nuclear reactions. Nuclear reactions can be used to obtain detailed structure information but also in connection to astrophysics to determine specific capture rates. In order to extract the desired information it is crucial to have a reliable framework that describes the reaction process accurately. A few recent developments for transfer and breakup reactions will be presented. These include recent studies on the reliability of existing theories as well as effort to reduce the ambiguities in the predicted observables.
Reactions are an important tool to study nuclear structure and for extracting reactions relevant for astrophysics. In this paper we focus on deuteron induced reactions which can provide information on neutron shell evolution as well as neutron capture cross sections. We review recent work on the systematic comparison of the continuum discretized coupled channel method, the adiabatic wave approximation and the Faddeev momentum-space approach. We also explore other aspects of the reaction mechanism and discuss in detail difficulties encountered in the calculations.
A systematic analysis is made on the total reaction cross sections for Ne, Mg, Si, and S isotopes. The high-energy nucleus-nucleus collision is described based on the Glauber model. Using the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock method in the three-dimensional grid-space representation, we determine the nuclear density distribution for a wide range of nuclei self-consistently without assuming any spatial symmetry. The calculated total reaction cross sections consistently agree with the recent cross section data on Ne$+^{12}$C collision at 240$A$\,MeV, which makes it possible to discuss the radius and deformati…
In this review article we discuss the present status of direct nuclear reactions and the nuclear structure aspects one can study with them. We discuss the spectroscopic information we can assess in experiments involving transfer reactions, heavy-ion-induced knockout reactions and quasifree scattering with (p,2p), (p,pn), and (e,e'p) reactions. In particular, we focus on the proton-to-neutron asymmetry of the quenching of the spectroscopic strength.
The interaction cross sections of $^{22,23}$O nuclei at 900 MeV/nucleon have been measured recently by Kanungo {\it et al.}. We show that the odd-even staggering parameter of interaction cross sections deduced from these new data agrees well with the theoretical systematics expected for the neutron separation energy of $S_n$=2.74$\pm$0.120 MeV for $^{23}$O. We also discuss briefly the energy dependence of the staggering parameter.
The nuclear reaction induced by photon is one of the important tools in the investigation of atomic nuclei. In the reaction, a target material is bombarded by photons with high-energies in the range of gamma-ray energy range. In the bombarding process, the photons can statistically be absorbed by a nucleus in the target material. Then the excited nucleus can decay by emitting proton, neutron, alpha and light particles or photons. By performing photonuclear reaction on the target, it can be easily investigated low-lying excited states of the nuclei. In the present work, (γ, n) photonuclear reac…
Taking into account more accurately the isospin dependence of nucleon-nucleon interactions in the in-medium many-body force term of the Gogny effective interaction, new expressions for the single nucleon potential and the symmetry energy are derived. Effects of both the spin(isospin) and the density dependence of nuclear effective interactions on the symmetry potential and the symmetry energy are examined. It is shown that they both play a crucial role in determining the symmetry potential and the symmetry energy at supra-saturation densities. The improved single nucleon potential will be usef…
The reaction rates of neutron capture reactions on light nuclei are important for reliably simulating nucleosynthesis in a variety of stellar scenarios. Neutron capture reaction rates on neutron-rich C-, N-, and O-isotopes are calculated in the framework of a hybrid compound and direct capture model. The results are tabulated and compared with the results of previous calculations as well as with experimental results.
The cross sections of the nuclear reactions induced by neutrons at $E_n$= 14.6 MeV on the isotopes of Dy, Er, Yb with emission of neutrons, proton and alpha-particle are studied by the use of new experimental data and different theoretical approaches. New and improved experimental data are measured by the neutron-activation technique. The experimental and evaluated data from EXFOR, TENDL, ENDF libraries are compared with different systematics and calculations by codes of EMPIRE~3.0 and TALYS~1.2. Contribution of pre-equilibrium decay is discussed. Different systematics for estimations of the c…
Neutron reaction data for the set of major chromium isotopes were reevaluated from the thermal energy range up to 20 MeV. In the low energy region, updates to the thermal values together with an improved $R$-matrix analysis of the resonance parameters characterizing the cluster of large $s$-wave resonances for $^{50,53}$Cr isotopes were performed. In the intermediate and high energy range up to 20 MeV, the evaluation methodology used statistical nuclear reaction models implemented in the EMPIRE code within the Hauser-Feshbach framework to evaluate the reaction cross sections and angular distri…
A novel pathway for the formation of multi-particle-multi-hole (np-mh) excited states in rare isotopes is reported from highly energy- and momentum-dissipative inelastic-scattering events measured in reactions of an intermediate-energy beam of 38Ca on a Be target. The negative-parity,complex-structure final states in 38Ca were observed following the in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy of events in the 9Be(38Ca,38Ca+gamma)X reaction in which the scattered projectile lost longitudinal momentum of order p = 700 MeV/c. The characteristics of the observed final states are discussed and found to be consi…
The cross sections for the $Z=$ 10 -- 19 with isotopes $T_{z}=-3/2$ to $-5$ in the 140$A$ MeV $^{40}$Ca + $^{9}$Be projectile fragmentation reaction have been predicted. An empirical formula based on the correlation between the cross section and average binding energy of isotope has been adopted to predict the cross section. The binding energies in the AME16, WS4, and the theoretical prediction by the spherical relativistic continuum Hartree$-$Bogoliubov theory have been used. Meanwhile, the {\sc fracs} parametrization and the modified statistical abrasion-ablation model are also used to predi…
Reaction cross sections of carbon isotopes for proton scattering are calculated in large energy region. Density distributions of carbon isotopes are obtained from relativistic mean field results. Calculations are based on two procedures: the Glauber theory and relativistic impulse approximation, and results are compared with each other as well as with experimental data. A strong relationship between reaction cross section and root-mean-square radius is clearly shown for 12C using a model distribution.
The negative-muon capture reaction (MCR) on the enriched $^{100}Mo$ isotope was studied for the first time to investigate neutrino nuclear response for neutrino-less double beta decays and supernova neutrino nuclear interactions. MCR on $^{100}Mo$ proceeds mainly as $^{100}Mo(mu,xn)^{100-x}Nb$ with $x$ being the number of neutrons emitted from MCR. The Nb isotope mass distribution was obtained by measuring delayed gamma-rays from radioactive $^{100-x}Nb$. By using the neutron emission model after MCR, the neutrino response (the strength distribution) for MCR was derived. Giant resonance (GR)-l…
We explore two-particle transfer reactions as a unique probe of the occurence of shape coexistence in shape phase transitions. The (t,p) reactions to the ground state and to excited $0^+$ states are calculated for the isotope chain of even-even Zirconium isotopes starting from stable nuclei up to beyond current experimental limits. Two-particle spectroscopic factors derived from Monte Carlo Shell Model calculations are used, together with the sequential description of the two-particle transfer reaction mechanism. The calculation shows a clear signature for a shape phase transition between $^{9…
177 neutron spectroscopic factors for nickel isotopes have been extracted by performing a systematic analysis of the angular distributions measured from (d,p) transfer reactions. A subset of the extracted spectroscopic factors are compared to predictions of large-basis shell models in the full pf model space using the GXPF1A effective interaction, and the (f5/2, p3/2, p1/2, g9/2) model space using the JJ4PNA interaction. For ground states, the predicted spectroscopic factors using the GXPF1A effective interaction in the full pf model space agree very well with the experimental values, while pr…
We discuss the role of pairing anti-halo effect in the observed odd-even staggering in reaction cross sections for $^{30,31,32}$Ne and $^{36,37,38}$Mg isotopes by taking into account the ground state deformation of these nuclei. To this end, we construct the ground state density for the $^{30,31}$Ne and $^{36,37}$Mg nuclei based on a deformed Woods-Saxon potential, while for the $^{32}$Ne and $^{38}$Mg nuclei we also take into account the pairing correlation using the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method. We demonstrate that, when the one-neutron separation energy is small for the odd-mass nuclei, a…
Isotope-dependence of measured reaction cross sections in scattering of $^{28-32}$Ne isotopes from $^{12}$C target at 240 MeV/nucleon is analyzed by the double-folding model with the Melbourne $g$-matrix. The density of projectile is calculated by the mean-field model with the deformed Wood-Saxon potential. The deformation is evaluated by the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. The deformation of projectile enhances calculated reaction cross sections to the measured values.
We have studied nuclear structure and reaction properties of Ne, Mg and Si isotopes, using relativistic mean field densities, in the frame work of Glauber model. Total reaction cross section $σ_R$ for Ne isotopes on 12C target have been calculated at incident energy 240 MeV. The results are compared with the experimental data and with the recent theoretical study [W. Horiuchi et al., Phys. Rev. C, 86, 024614 (2012)]. Study of $σ_R$ using deformed densities have shown a good agreement with the data. We have also predicted total reaction cross section $σ_R$ for Ne, Mg and Si isotopes as projecti…
The production cross section of neutron-rich isotopes of Ca, Zn, Te, Xe, and Pt are predicted in the diffusive multi-nucleon transfer reactions with stable and radioactive beams. With these isotopes one can treat the neutron shell evolution beyond N = 28, 50, 82, and 126. Because of the small cross sections, the production of nuclei near the neutron drip line requires the optimal choice of reaction partners and bombarding energies.
The excitation functions for (n,p) reactions from reaction threshold to 20 MeV on four stable Iron isotopes viz; 54Fe,56Fe,57Fe and 58Fe were calculated using Talys-1.2 nuclear model code, this essentially involves fitting a set of global parameters. An excellent agreement between the calculated and experimental data is obtained with minimal effort on parameter fitting and only one free parameter called 'Shell damping factor' has been adjusted. This is very importance to the validation of nuclear model approaches with increased predictive power. The systematic decrease in (n, p) cross-sections…
The role of the entrance channel in fusion-fission reactions was studied by the theoretical analysis of the experimental evaporation residue excitation functions for reactions leading to the same compound nucleus. The evaporation residues cross sections for xn-channels were calculated in the frame of the combined dinuclear system concept and advanced statistical model. The revealed differences between experimental data on the evaporation residues in the ^{40}Ar+^{176}Hf, ^{86}Kr + ^{130}Xe and ^{124}Sn + ^{92}Zr reactions leading to the ^{216}Th^* compound nucleus are explained by the differen…
A campaign of intermediate energy (300-450 MeV/u) proton-induced nucleon knockout measurements in inverse kinematics has been recently undertaken at the R 3 B/LAND setup at GSI. We present a systematic theoretical analysis of these data with the aim of studying the quenching of the single-particle strengths and its binding-energy dependence. For that, the measured semi-inclusive (p, 2p) and (p, pn) cross sections are compared with theoretical predictions based on single-particle cross sections derived from a novel coupled-channels formalism and shell-model spectroscopic factors. A systematic r…
A systematic analysis of nuclear deformation is made for neutron-rich Ti, Cr, and Fe isotopes to explore the nuclear structure in the island of inversion near N = 40, where strong nuclear deformation is predicted. The nuclear ground states are obtained by the Skyrme Hartree-Fock method in three-dimensional coordinate space, which properly describes any nuclear shape. Three types of Skyrme interactions are employed to generate various deformed states in its isotopic chain. We find that in the island of inversion the occupation of highly elongated intruder orbits induces not only large quadrupol…

Within the dinuclear system model, unknown neutron-deficient isotopes Np, Pu, Am, Cm, Bk, Cf, Es, Fm are investigated in $^{40}$Ca, $^{36,40}$Ar, $^{32}$S, $^{28}$Si,$^{24}$Mg induced fusion-evaporation reactions and multinucleon transfer reactions with radioactive beams $^{59}$Cu,$^{69}$As,$^{90}$Nb,$^{91}$Tc, $^{94}$Rh, $^{105,110}$Sn, $^{118}$Xe induced with $^{238}$U near Coulomb barrier energies. The production cross sections of compound nuclei in the fusion-evaporation reactions and fragments yields in the multinucleon transfer reactions are calculated within the model. A statistical app…
The isotopic dependence of the complete fusion (capture) cross section is analyzed in the reactions $^{130,132,134,136,138,140,142,144,146,148,150}$Xe+$^{48}$Ca with stable and radioactive beams. It is shown for the first time that the very neutron-rich nuclei $^{186-191}$W can be reached with relatively large cross sections by complete fusion reactions with radioactive ion beams at incident energies near the Coulomb barrier. A comparison between the complete fusion and fragmentation reactions for the production of neutron-rich W and neutron-deficient Rn isotopes is performed.
The latest, production, version of the Los Alamos Monte Carlo N-Particle transport code MCNP6 has been used to simulate a variety of particle-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus reactions of academic and applied interest to the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), medical isotope production, space-radiation shielding, cosmic-ray propagation, and accelerator applications, including several reactions induced by radioactive isotopes, analyzing production of both stable and radioactive residual nuclei. Here, we discuss examples of validation and verification of MCNP6 compared to recent neutron spectra …
We systematically calculate the total reaction cross sections of oxygen isotopes, $^{15-24}$O, on a $^{12}$C target at high energies using the Glauber theory. The oxygen isotopes are described with Slater determinants generated from a phenomenological mean-field potential. The agreement between theory and experiment is generally good, but a sharp increase of the reaction cross sections from ^{21}O to ^{23}O remains unresolved. To examine the sensitivity of the diffraction pattern of elastic scattering to the nuclear surface, we study the differential elastic-scattering cross sections of proton…
New measurements and reaction model calculations are reported for single neutron pickup reactions onto a fast \nuc{22}{Mg} secondary beam at 84 MeV per nucleon. Measurements were made on both carbon and beryllium targets, having very different structures, allowing a first investigation of the likely nature of the pickup reaction mechanism. The measurements involve thick reaction targets and $γ$-ray spectroscopy of the projectile-like reaction residue for final-state resolution, that permit experiments with low incident beam rates compared to traditional low-energy transfer reactions. From meas…
The recoil properties of the product nuclei from the interaction of 2.2 GeV/nucleon 12-C ions from Nuclotron of the Laboratory of High Energies (LHE), Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) at Dubna with a 118-Sn target have been studied using catcher foils. The experimental data were analyzed using the mathematical formalism of the standard two-step vector model. The results for 12-C ions are compared with those for deuterons and protons. Three different Los Alamos versions of the Quark-Gluon String Model (LAQGSM) were used for comparison with our experimental data.
The gamma-strength functions and level densities in the quasi-continuum of 147;149Sm isotopes have been extracted from particle-coincidences using the Oslo method. The nuclei of interest were populated via (p,d) reactions on pure 148;150Sm targets and the reaction products were recorded by the Hyperion array. An upbend in the low-energy region of the gSF has been observed. The systematic analysis of the gSF for a range of Sm isotopes highlights the interplay between scissors mode and the upbend. Shell-model calculations show reasonable agreement with the experimental gSFs and confirm the corre…
We systematically study total reaction cross sections of carbon isotopes with N=6-16 on a proton target for wide range of incident energies, putting an emphasis on the difference from the case of a carbon target. The analysis includes the reaction cross sections of ^{19,20,22}C at 40 AMeV, the data of which have recently been measured at RIKEN. The Glauber theory is used to calculate the reaction cross sections. To describe the intrinsic structure of the carbon isotopes, we use a Slater determinant generated from a phenomenological mean-field potential, and construct the density distributions.…
We systematically analyze total reaction cross sections of carbon isotopes with N=6--16 on a $^{12}$C target for wide range of incident energy. The intrinsic structure of the carbon isotope is described by a Slater determinant generated from a phenomenological mean-field potential, which reasonably well reproduces the ground state properties for most of the even $N$ isotopes. We need separate studies not only for odd nuclei but also for $^{16}$C and $^{22}$C. The density of the carbon isotope is constructed by eliminating the effect of the center of mass motion. For the calculations of the cro…
We study the presence of entangled states of nucleon pairs from nuclear decays and in reactions with exotic nuclei, e.g., 11Li, or 6He. It is shown that the fingerprints of entangled states in these subsystems are visible in correlation measurements and can be accessed with present experimental techniques. This shows that not only atomic and optical systems, but also nuclear systems serve as important tools to obtain dichotomic outcomes for tests of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox.
A project of using a target consisting of the mixture of (249-252)Cf isotopes to be bombarded with the 48Ca beam, aimed to synthesize new isotopes of the heaviest known element Z = 118, is under way at the FLNR in Dubna. In the present work excitation functions for all the reactions: 249Cf(48Ca,xn)(297-x)118, 250Cf(48Ca,xn)(298-x)118, 251Cf(48Ca,xn)(299-x)118 and 252Cf(48Ca,xn)(300-x)118 have been calculated in the framework of the fusion-by-diffusion model, assuming fission barriers, ground-state masses and shell effects of the superheavy nuclei predicted by Kowal et al. Energy dependence of …
The mechanism of multinucleon transfer (MNT) reactions for producing neutron-rich heavy nuclei around N = 126 is investigated within two different theoretical frameworks: dinuclear system (DNS) model and isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model. The effects of mass asymmetry relaxation, N=Z equilibration, and shell closures on production cross sections of neutron-rich heavy nuclei are investigated. For the first time, the advantages for producing neutron-rich heavy nuclei around N = 126 is found in MNT reactions based on 238U target. We propose the reactions with 238U target f…
The total cross sections of the neutron radiative capture on 12B at astrophysical energies to the ground state of 13B have been calculated in the energy range of 10E-8 to 10 MeV within the framework of a modified potential cluster model with the classification of orbital states according to Young diagrams. Reaction rates in the temperature range of 0.01 to 10 T9 and their analytical parameterization were obtained. The calculated rates of 12B(n,gamma)13B excess the previous results by approximately to one order. Cross sections and reaction rates of 12C(n,gamma)13C are calculated and compared to…
Background: Challenging questions of the $α$-particle optical-model potential (OMP) are still pointed out by recent high-precision measurements of $α$-induced reaction data below the Coulomb barrier. Moreover, the reliability of a previous OMP for $α$-particles on nuclei within the mass number range 45$\leq$$A$$\leq$209 has been recently proved for emitted $α$ particles as well, but only in the case of proton-induced reactions on Zn isotopes [Phys. Rev. C {\bf 91}, 064611 (2015), Paper I]. Purpose: Analysis of most recent $(α,γ)$ reaction data for Ge and Zr isotopes, which provides an addition…
The multinucleon transfer reactions has been investigated within the dinuclear system model. The nucleon transfer is coupled to the dissipation of relative motion energy and angular momentum by solving a set of microscopically derived master equations. A barrier distribution approach is implemented in the model in order to including the contributions of different orientations and dynamical effects. The available data of fragment production via multinucleon transfer reactions could be understood with the model for the reactions of $^{136}$Xe + $^{198}$Pt/$^{208}$Pb near Coulomb barrier energies…
The dynamics of transfer reactions in collisions of two very heavy nuclei $^{238}$U+$^{238}$U is studied within the dinuclear system (DNS) model. Collisions of two actinide nuclei form a super heavy composite system during a very short time, in which a large number of charge and mass transfers may take place. Such reactions have been investigated experimentally as an alternative way for the production of heavy and superheavy nuclei. The role of collision orientation in the production cross sections of heavy nuclides is analyzed systematically. Calculations show that the cross sections decrease…
A number of accelerator-based isotope production facilities utilize 100- to 200-MeV proton beams due to the high production rates enabled by high-intensity beam capabilities and the greater diversity of isotope production brought on by the long range of high-energy protons. However, nuclear reaction modeling at these energies can be challenging because of the interplay between different reaction modes and a lack of existing guiding cross section data. A Tri-lab collaboration has been formed among the Lawrence Berkeley, Los Alamos, and Brookhaven National Laboratories to address these complexit…
An IAEA research project was dedicated to the compilation, evaluation and recommendation of cross-section data for the accelerator production of $^{11}$C, $^{13}$N, $^{15}$O, $^{18}$F, $^{64}$Cu, and $^{124}$I positron-emitting radionuclides clinically used for PET imaging, and for the accelerator production of two gamma emitters, $^{81}$Rb and $^{123}$I, used in SPECT imaging. Cross sections for 19 charged-particle induced reactions that can be employed for radionuclide accelerator production were evaluated including uncertainties. The resulting reference cross-section data were obtained from…
The dynamical mechanism of multinucleon transfer (MNT) reactions has been investigated within the dinuclear system (DNS) model, in which the sequential nucleon transfer is described by solving a set of microscopically derived master equations. Production cross sections, total kinetic energy spectra, angular distribution of formed fragments in the reactions of $^{124,132}$Sn+ $^{238}$U/$^{248}$Cm near Coulomb barrier energies are thoroughly analyzed. It is found that the total kinetic energies of primary fragments are dissipated from the relative motion energy and rotational energy of the two c…
The present status of theoretical and experimental studies of muon capture reactions on light nuclei is reviewed. In particular, the recent results for the two reactions 2H(μ^-,ν_μ)nn and 3He(μ^-,ν_μ)3H are presented, and the unresolved discrepancies among different measurements and calculations, open problems, and future developments are discussed.
The occupancies and vacancies of the valence neutron orbitals across the stable tin isotopic chain from $112\leq A\leq 124$ have been determined. These were inferred from the cross sections of neutron-adding and -removing reactions. In each case, the reactions were chosen to have good angular-momentum matching for transfer to the low- and high-$\ell$ orbitals present in this valence space. These new data are compared to older systematic studies. The effective single-neutron energies are determined by combining information from energy centroids determined from the adding and removing reactions.…
Within the framework of the dinuclear system model, the reaction mechanisms for synthesizing target-like isotopes from Bk to compound nuclei Lv are thoroughly investigated in complete and incomplete fusion reaction of $^{48}$Ca +$^{248}$Cm around Coulomb barrier energies. Production cross-section of $^{292,293}$Lv as a function of excitation energy in fusion-evaporation reactions and target-like isotopic yields in multinucleon transfer reactions are evaluated, in which a statistical approach is used to describe the decay process of excited nuclei. The available experimental data can be reprodu…
Assuming a binary reaction mechanism, the yield of isotopes near the heaviest $N=Z$ neutron-deficit nucleus $^{100}$Sn is studied with a microscopic transport model. The large influence of nuclear shell structure and isotope composition of the colliding nuclei on the production of exotic nuclei is demonstrated. It is shown that the reaction $^{54}$Fe+$^{106}$Cd seems to be most favourable for producing primary exotic Sn isotopes which may survive if the excitation energy in the entrance reaction channel is less than about 100 MeV. In the case of large differences in the charge (mass) numbers b…

The study of the $^{48}$Ca+$^{249,250,251,252}$Cf reactions in a wide energy interval around the external barrier has been achieved with the aim of investigating the dynamical effects of the entrance channel via the $^{48}$Ca induced reactions on the $^{249-252}$Cf targets and to analyze the influence of odd and even neutron composition in target on the capture, quasifission and fusion cross sections. Moreover, we also present the results of the individual evaporation residue excitation functions obtained from the de-excitation cascade of the various even-odd and even-even $^{297-300}$118 supe…
Using the Sao Paulo potential and the barrier penetration formalism we have calculated the astrophysical factor S(E) for 946 fusion reactions involving stable and neutron-rich isotopes of C, O, Ne, and Mg for center-of-mass energies E varying from 2 MeV to 18-30 MeV (covering the range below and above the Coulomb barrier). We have parameterized the energy dependence S(E) by an accurate universal 9-parameter analytic expression and present tables of fit parameters for all the reactions. We also discuss the reduced 3-parameter version of our fit which is highly accurate at energies below the Cou…
Low-lying electric-dipole ($E1$) strength of a neutron-rich nucleus contains information on neutron-skin thickness, deformation, and shell evolution. We discuss the possibility of making use of total reaction cross sections on $^{40}$Ca, $^{120}$Sn, and $^{208}$Pb targets to probe the $E1$ strength of neutron-rich Ca, Ni, and Sn isotopes. They exhibit large enhancement of the $E1$ strength at neutron number $N > 28$, $50$, and $82$, respectively, due to a change of the single-particle orbits near the Fermi surface participating in the transitions. The density distributions and the electric-mul…
