Weak lensing peak abundance analyses have been applied in different surveys and demonstrated to be a powerful statistics in extracting cosmological information complementary to cosmic shear two-point correlation studies. Future large surveys with high number densities of galaxies enable tomographic peak analyses. Focusing on high peaks, we investigate quantitatively how the tomographic redshift binning can enhance the cosmological gains. We also perform detailed studies about the degradation of cosmological information due to photometric redshift (photo-z) errors. We show that for surveys with the number density of galaxies $\sim40\,{\rm arcmin^{-2}}$, the median redshift $\sim1$, and the survey area of $\sim15000\,{\rm deg^{2}}$, the 4-bin tomographic peak analyses can reduce the error contours of $(Ω_{\rm m},σ_{8})$ by a factor of $5$ comparing to 2-D peak analyses in the ideal case of photo-z error being absent. More redshift bins can hardly lead to significantly better constraints. The photo-z error model here is parametrized by $z_{\rm bias}$ and $σ_{\rm ph}$ and the fiducial values of $z_{\rm bias}=0.003$ and $σ_{\rm ph}=0.02$ is taken. We find that using tomographic peak analyses can constrain the photo-z errors simultaneously with cosmological parameters. For 4-bin analyses, we can obtain $σ(z_{\rm bias})/z_{\rm bias}\sim10\%$ and $σ(σ_{\rm ph})/σ_{\rm ph}\sim5\%$ without assuming priors on them. Accordingly, the cosmological constraints on $Ω_{\rm m}$ and $σ_{8}$ degrade by a factor of $\sim2.2$ and $\sim1.8$, respectively, with respect to zero uncertainties on photo-z parameters. We find that the uncertainty of $z_{\rm bias}$ plays more significant roles in degrading the cosmological constraints than that of $σ_{\rm ph}$.
We investigate how the lensing potential can be measured tomographically with future galaxy surveys using their number counts. Such a measurement is an independent test of the standard $Λ$CDM framework and can be used to discern modified theories of gravity. We perform a Fisher matrix forecast based on galaxy angular-redshift power spectra, assuming specifications consistent with future photometric Euclid-like surveys and spectroscopic SKA-like surveys. For the Euclid-like survey we derive a fitting formula for the magnification bias. Our analysis suggests that the cross correlation between di…
In a tomographic approach, we measure the cross-correlation between the CMB lensing reconstructed from the Planck satellite and the galaxies of the photometric redshift catalogue based on the combination of the South Galactic Cap u-band Sky Survey (SCUSS), Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), and Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) data. We perform the analyses considering six redshift bins spanning the range of $0.1 <z<0.7$. From the estimates of the galaxy-galaxy and galaxy-CMB lensing power spectrum, we derive the galaxy bias and the amplitude of the cross-correlation for each redshift b…

We explore the effect of massive neutrinos on the weak lensing shear bispectrum using the Cosmological Massive Neutrino Simulations. We find that the primary effect of massive neutrinos is to suppress the amplitude of the bispectrum with limited effect on the bispectrum shape. The suppression of the bispectrum amplitude is a factor of two greater than the suppression of the small scale power-spectrum. For an LSST-like weak lensing survey that observes half of the sky with five tomographic redshift bins, we explore the constraining power of the bispectrum on three cosmological parameters: the s…
We present the tomographic cross-correlation between galaxy lensing measured in the Kilo Degree Survey (KiDS-450) with overlapping lensing measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB), as detected by Planck 2015. We compare our joint probe measurement to the theoretical expectation for a flat $Λ$CDM cosmology, assuming the best-fitting cosmological parameters from the KiDS-450 cosmic shear and Planck CMB analyses. We find that our results are consistent within $1σ$ with the KiDS-450 cosmology, with an amplitude re-scaling parameter $A_{\rm KiDS} = 0.86 \pm 0.19$. Adopting a Planck cos…
Massive cosmic neutrinos change the structure formation history by suppressing perturbations on small scales. Weak lensing data from galaxy surveys probe the structure evolution and thereby can be used to constrain the total mass of the three active neutrinos. However, much of the information is at small scales where the dynamics are nonlinear. Traditional approaches with second order statistics thus fail to fully extract the information in the lensing field. In this paper, we study constraints on the neutrino mass sum using lensing peak counts, a statistic which captures non-Gaussian informat…
Subject of this paper are intrinsic ellipticity correlations between galaxies, their statistical properties, their observability with future surveys and their interference with weak gravitational lensing measurements. Using an angular momentum-based, quadratic intrinsic alignment model we derive correlation functions of the ellipticity components and project them to yield the four non-zero angular ellipticity spectra $C^ε_E(\ell)$, $C^ε_B(\ell)$, $C^ε_C(\ell)$ and $C^ε_S(\ell)$ in their generalisation to tomographic surveys. For a Euclid-like survey, these spectra would have amplitudes smaller…
Cosmology and Source Redshift Constraints from Galaxy Clustering and Tomographic Weak Lensing with HSC Y3 and SDSS using the Point-Mass Correction Model
We perform weak lensing tomographic peak studies using the first-year shear data from Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) survey. The effective area used in our analyses after field selection, mask and boundary exclusions is $\sim 58 °^2$. The source galaxies are divided into low- and high-redshift bins with $0.2\le z_p\le0.85$ and $0.85\le z_p\le1.5$, respectively. We utilize our halo-based theoretical peak model including the projection effect of large-scale structures to derive cosmological constraints from the observed tomographic high peak abundances with the signal-to-no…
We address key points for an efficient implementation of likelihood codes for modern weak lensing large-scale structure surveys. Specifically, we focus on the joint weak lensing convergence power spectrum-bispectrum probe and we tackle the numerical challenges required by a realistic analysis. Under the assumption of (multivariate) Gaussian likelihoods, we have developed a high performance code that allows highly parallelised prediction of the binned tomographic observables and of their joint non-Gaussian covariance matrix accounting for terms up to the 6-point correlation function and super-s…
The tangential shear signal receives contributions from physical scales in the galaxy-matter correlation function well below the transverse scale at which it is measured. Since small scales are difficult to model, this non-locality has generally required stringent scale cuts or new statistics for cosmological analyses. Using the fact that uncertainty in these contributions corresponds to an uncertainty in the enclosed projected mass around the lens, we provide an analytic marginalization scheme to account for this. Our approach enables the inclusion of measurements on smaller scales without re…
We forecast and optimize the cosmological power of various weak-lensing aperture mass ($M_{\rm ap}$) map statistics for future cosmic shear surveys, including peaks, voids, and the full distribution of pixels (1D $M_{\rm ap}$). These alternative methods probe the non-Gaussian regime of the matter distribution, adding complementary cosmological information to the classical two-point estimators. Based on the SLICS and cosmo-SLICS $N$-body simulations, we build Euclid-like mocks to explore the $S_8 - Ω_{\rm m} - w_0$ parameter space. We develop a new tomographic formalism which exploits the cross…
We use luminous red galaxies selected from the imaging surveys that are being used for targeting by the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) in combination with CMB lensing maps from the Planck collaboration to probe the amplitude of large-scale structure over $0.4\le z\le 1$. Our galaxy sample, with an angular number density of approximately $500\,\mathrm{deg}^{-2}$ over 18,000 sq.deg., is divided into 4 tomographic bins by photometric redshift and the redshift distributions are calibrated using spectroscopy from DESI. We fit the galaxy autospectra and galaxy-convergence cross-spectra …
Gravitational waves from inspiraling compact objects provide us with information of the distance scale since we can infer the absolute luminosity of the source from analysis of the wave form, which is known as standard sirens. The first detection of the gravitational wave signal of the binary black hole merger event by Advanced LIGO has opened up the possibility of utilizing standard sirens as cosmological probe. In order to extract information of the distance-redshift relation, we cross-correlate weak lensing, which is an unbiased tracer of matter distribution in the Universe, with the projec…
The Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Lensing Survey (CFHTLenS) comprises deep multi-colour (u*g'r'i'z') photometry spanning 154 square degrees, with accurate photometric redshifts and shape measurements. We demonstrate that the redshift probability distribution function summed over galaxies provides an accurate representation of the galaxy redshift distribution accounting for random and catastrophic errors for galaxies with best fitting photometric redshifts z_p < 1.3. We present cosmological constraints using tomographic weak gravitational lensing by large-scale structure. We use two broad reds…
We present a finely-binned tomographic weak lensing analysis of the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Lensing Survey, CFHTLenS, mitigating contamination to the signal from the presence of intrinsic galaxy alignments via the simultaneous fit of a cosmological model and an intrinsic alignment model. CFHTLenS spans 154 square degrees in five optical bands, with accurate shear and photometric redshifts for a galaxy sample with a median redshift of zm =0.70. We estimate the 21 sets of cosmic shear correlation functions associated with six redshift bins, each spanning the angular range of 1.5<theta<35 …
Extending previous studies, we derive generic predictions for lower order cumulants and their correlators for individual tomographic bins as well as between two different bins. We derive the corresponding one- and two-point joint probability distribution function for the tomographic convergence maps from different bins as a function of angular smoothing scale. The modelling of weak lensing statistics is obtained by adopting a detailed prescription for the underlying density contrast. In this paper we concentrate on the convergence field $κ$ and use top-hat filter; though the techniques present…
In the context of tomographic cosmic shear surveys, there exists a nulling transformation of weak lensing observations (also called BNT transform) that allows us to simplify the correlation structure of tomographic cosmic shear observations, as well as to build observables that depend only on a localised range of redshifts and thus independent from the low-redshift/small-scale modes. This procedure renders possible accurate, and from-first-principles, predictions of the convergence and aperture mass one-point distributions (PDF). We here explore other consequences of this transformation on the…
We investigate a physical, composite alignment model for both spiral and elliptical galaxies and its impact on cosmological parameter estimation from weak lensing for a tomographic survey. Ellipticity correlation functions and angular ellipticity spectra for spiral and elliptical galaxies are derived on the basis of tidal interactions with the cosmic large-scale structure and compared to the tomographic weak lensing signal. We find that elliptical galaxies cause a contribution to the weak-lensing dominated ellipticity correlation on intermediate angular scales between $\ell\simeq40$ and $\ell\…
We present a method that accurately propagates residual uncertainties in photometric redshift distributions into the cosmological inference from weak lensing measurements. The redshift distributions of tomographic redshift bins are parameterised using a flexible modified Gaussian mixture model. We fit this model to pre-calibrated redshift distributions and implement an analytic marginalisation over the potentially several hundred redshift nuisance parameters in the weak lensing likelihood, which is demonstrated to accurately recover the cosmological posterior. By iteratively fitting cosmologic…
Forthcoming experiments will enable us to determine tomographic shear spectra at a high precision level. Most predictions about them have until now been biased on algorithms yielding the expected linear and non-linear spectrum of density fluctuations. Even when simulations have been used, so-called Halofit (Smith et al 2003) predictions on fairly large scales have been needed. We wish to go beyond this limitation. We perform N-body and hydrodynamical simulations within a sufficiently large cosmological volume to allow a direct connection between simulations and linear spectra. While covering l…
We measure the weak gravitational lensing shear power spectra and their cross-power in two photometric redshift bins from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Lensing Survey (CFHTLenS). The measurements are performed directly in multipole space in terms of adjustable band powers. For the extraction of the band powers from the data we have implemented and extended a quadratic estimator, a maximum likelihood method that allows us to readily take into account irregular survey geometries, masks, and varying sampling densities. We find the 68 per cent credible intervals in the $σ_8$-$Ω_{\rm m}$-plane…
We study the constraints on neutrino mass sum (M_nu) from the one-point probability distribution function (PDF) and power spectrum of weak lensing measurements for an LSST-like survey, using the MassiveNuS simulations. The PDF provides access to non-Gaussian information beyond the power spectrum. It is particularly sensitive to nonlinear growth on small scales, where massive neutrinos also have the largest effect. We find that tomography helps improve the constraint on M_nu by 14% and 32% for the power spectrum and the PDF, respectively, compared to a single redshift bin. The PDF alone outperf…
We present measurements of the weak gravitational lensing shear power spectrum based on $450$ sq. deg. of imaging data from the Kilo Degree Survey. We employ a quadratic estimator in two and three redshift bins and extract band powers of redshift auto-correlation and cross-correlation spectra in the multipole range $76 \leq \ell \leq 1310$. The cosmological interpretation of the measured shear power spectra is performed in a Bayesian framework assuming a $Λ$CDM model with spatially flat geometry, while accounting for small residual uncertainties in the shear calibration and redshift distributi…

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have recently been demonstrated on synthetic data to improve upon the precision of cosmological inference. In particular they have the potential to yield more precise cosmological constraints from weak lensing mass maps than the two-point functions. We present the cosmological results with a CNN from the KiDS-450 tomographic weak lensing dataset, constraining the total matter density $Ω_m$, the fluctuation amplitude $σ_8$, and the intrinsic alignment amplitude $A_{\rm{IA}}$. We use a grid of N-body simulations to generate a training set of tomographic weak l…
We present a tomographic cosmological weak lensing analysis of the HST COSMOS Survey. Applying our lensing-optimized data reduction, principal component interpolation for the ACS PSF, and improved modelling of charge-transfer inefficiency, we measure a lensing signal which is consistent with pure gravitational modes and no significant shape systematics. We carefully estimate the statistical uncertainty from simulated COSMOS-like fields obtained from ray-tracing through the Millennium Simulation. We test our pipeline on simulated space-based data, recalibrate non-linear power spectrum correctio…
Modelling Galaxy Clustering and Tomographic Galaxy-Galaxy Lensing with HSC Y3 and SDSS using the Point-Mass Correction Model and Redshift Self-Calibration
To accomplish correct Bayesian inference from weak lensing shear data requires a complete statistical description of the data. The natural framework to do this is a Bayesian Hierarchical Model, which divides the chain of reasoning into component steps. Starting with a catalogue of shear estimates in tomographic bins, we build a model that allows us to sample simultaneously from the the underlying tomographic shear fields and the relevant power spectra (E-mode, B-mode, and E-B, for auto- and cross-power spectra). The procedure deals easily with masked data and intrinsic alignments. Using Gibbs …
We present cosmological parameter constraints from a tomographic weak gravitational lensing analysis of ~450deg$^2$ of imaging data from the Kilo Degree Survey (KiDS). For a flat $Λ$CDM cosmology with a prior on $H_0$ that encompasses the most recent direct measurements, we find $S_8\equivσ_8\sqrt{Ω_{\rm m}/0.3}=0.745\pm0.039$. This result is in good agreement with other low redshift probes of large scale structure, including recent cosmic shear results, along with pre-Planck cosmic microwave background constraints. A $2.3$-$σ$ tension in $S_8$ and `substantial discordance' in the full paramet…
Dark energy may be the first sign of new fundamental physics in the Universe, taking either a physical form or revealing a correction to Einsteinian gravity. Weak gravitational lensing and galaxy peculiar velocities provide complementary probes of General Relativity, and in combination allow us to test modified theories of gravity in a unique way. We perform such an analysis by combining measurements of cosmic shear tomography from the Canada-France Hawaii Telescope Lensing Survey (CFHTLenS) with the growth of structure from the WiggleZ Dark Energy Survey and the Six-degree-Field Galaxy Survey…
Systematic errors in the galaxy redshift distribution $n(z)$ can propagate to systematic errors in the derived cosmology. We characterize how the degenerate effects in tomographic bin widths and galaxy bias impart systematic errors on cosmology inference using observational data from the Deep Lens Survey. For this we use a combination of galaxy clustering and galaxy-galaxy lensing. We present two end-to-end analyses from the catalogue level to parameter estimation. We produce an initial cosmological inference using fiducial tomographic redshift bins derived from photometric redshifts, then com…
We analyse three public cosmic shear surveys; the Kilo-Degree Survey (KiDS-450), the Dark Energy Survey (DES-SV) and the Canada France Hawaii Telescope Lensing Survey (CFHTLenS). Adopting the COSEBIs statistic to cleanly and completely separate the lensing E-modes from the non-lensing B-modes, we detect B-modes in KiDS-450 and CFHTLenS at the level of about 2.7 $σ$. For DES- SV we detect B-modes at the level of 2.8 $σ$ in a non-tomographic analysis, increasing to a 5.5 $σ$ B-mode detection in a tomographic analysis. In order to understand the origin of these detected B-modes we measure the B-m…
The subject of this paper is optimisation of weak lensing tomography: We carry out numerical minimisation of a measure of total statistical error as a function of the redshifts of the tomographic bin edges by means of a Nelder-Mead algorithm in order to optimise the sensitivity of weak lensing with respect to different optimisation targets. Working under the assumption of a Gaussian likelihood for the parameters of a $w_0 w_a$CDM-model and using Euclid's conservative survey specifications, we compare an equipopulated, equidistant and optimised bin setting and find that in general the equipopul…
When the gravitational lensing of the large-scale structure is calculated from a cosmological model a few assumptions enter: $(i)$ one assumes that the photons follow unperturbed background geodesics, which is usually referred to as the Born-approximation, $(ii)$ the lenses move slowly, $(iii)$ the source-redshift distribution is evaluated relative to the background quantities and $(iv)$ the lensing effect is linear in the gravitational potential. Even though these approximations are small individually they could sum up, especially since they include local effects such as the Sachs-Wolfe and p…
We present an improved and extended analysis of the cross-correlation between the map of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) lensing potential derived from the \emph{Planck} mission data and the high-redshift galaxies detected by the \emph{Herschel} Astrophysical Terahertz Large Area Survey (H-ATLAS) in the photometric redshift range $z_{\rm ph} \ge 1.5$. We compare the results based on the 2013 and 2015 \textit{Planck} datasets, and investigate the impact of different selections of the H-ATLAS galaxy samples. Significant improvements over our previous analysis have been achieved thanks to t…
We present a field-based signal extraction of weak lensing from noisy observations on the curved and masked sky. We test the analysis on a simulated Euclid-like survey, using a Euclid-like mask and noise level. To make optimal use of the information available in such a galaxy survey, we present a Bayesian method for inferring the angular power spectra of the weak lensing fields, together with an inference of the noise-cleaned tomographic weak lensing shear and convergence (projected mass) maps. The latter can be used for field-level inference with the aim of extracting cosmological parameter i…
We present novel statistical tools to cross-correlate frequency cleaned thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (tSZ) maps and tomographic weak lensing (wl) convergence maps. Moving beyond the lowest order cross-correlation, we introduce a hierarchy of mixed higher-order statistics, the cumulants and cumulant correlators, to analyze non-Gaussianity in real space, as well as corresponding polyspectra in the harmonic domain. Using these moments, we derive analytical expressions for the joint two-point probability distribution function (2PDF) for smoothed tSZ (y_s) and convergence (κ_s) maps. The presence of …
Using about 450,000 galaxies in the Deep Lens Survey, we present a detection of the gravitational magnification of z > 4 Lyman Break Galaxies by massive foreground galaxies with 0.4 < z < 1.0, grouped by redshift. The magnification signal is detected at S/N greater than 20, and rigorous checks confirm that it is not contaminated by any galaxy sample overlap in redshift. The inferred galaxy mass profiles are consistent with earlier lensing analyses at lower redshift. We then explore the tomographic lens magnification signal by splitting our foreground galaxy sample into 7 redshift bins. Combini…
The next generation of weak lensing probes can place strong constraints on cosmological parameters by measuring the mass distribution and geometry of the low redshift universe. We show that a future all-sky tomographic cosmic shear survey with design properties similar to Euclid can provide the statistical accuracy required to distinguish between different dark energy models. Using a fiducial cosmological model which includes cold dark matter, baryons, massive neutrinos (hot dark matter), a running primordial spectral index and possible spatial curvature as well as dark energy perturbations, w…
We perform a principal component analysis to assess ability of future observations to measure departures from General Relativity in predictions of the Poisson and anisotropy equations on linear scales. In particular, we focus on how the measurements of redshift-space distortions (RSD) observed from spectroscopic galaxy redshift surveys will improve the constraints when combined with lensing tomographic surveys. Assuming a Euclid-like galaxy imaging and redshift survey, we find that adding the 3D information decreases the statistical uncertainty by a factor between 3 and 10 compared to the case…
We introduce the skew-spectrum statistic for weak lensing convergence $κ$ maps and test it against state-of-the-art high-resolution all-sky numerical simulations. We perform the analysis as a function of source redshift and smoothing angular scale for individual tomographic bins. We also analyse the cross-correlation between different tomographic bins. We compare the numerical results to fitting-functions used to model the bispectrum of the underlying density field as a function of redshift and scale. We derive a closed form expression for the skew-spectrum for gravity-induced secondary non-Ga…
This paper presents the first application of 3D cosmic shear to a wide-field weak lensing survey. 3D cosmic shear is a technique that analyses weak lensing in three dimensions using a spherical harmonic approach, and does not bin data in the redshift direction. This is applied to CFHTLenS, a 154 square degree imaging survey with a median redshift of 0.7 and an effective number density of 11 galaxies per square arcminute usable for weak lensing. To account for survey masks we apply a 3D pseudo-Cl approach on weak lensing data, and to avoid uncertainties in the highly non-linear regime, we separ…
In the past decade, weak gravitational lensing has become an important tool in the study of the universe at the largest scale, giving insights into the distribution of dark matter, the expansion of the universe, and the nature of dark energy. This thesis research explores several applications of Karhunen-Loeve (KL) analysis to speed and improve the comparison of weak lensing shear catalogs to theory in order to constrain cosmological parameters in current and future lensing surveys. After providing a brief introduction to cosmology and to KL analysis, this work addresses three related aspects …
We explore the complementarity of weak lensing and galaxy peculiar velocity measurements to better constrain modifications to General Relativity. We find no evidence for deviations from GR on cosmological scales from a combination of peculiar velocity measurements (for Luminous Red Galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey) with weak lensing measurements (from the CFHT Legacy Survey). We provide a Fisher error forecast for a Euclid-like space-based survey including both lensing and peculiar velocity measurements, and show that the expected constraints on modified gravity will be at least an ord…
We have proposed a method for measuring weak lensing using the Lyman-alpha forest. Here we estimate the noise expected in weak lensing maps and power spectra for different sets of observational parameters. We find that surveys of the size and quality of the ones being done today and ones planned for the future will be able to measure the lensing power spectrum at a source redshift of z~2.5 with high precision and even be able to image the distribution of foreground matter with high fidelity on degree scales. For example, we predict that Lyman-alpha forest lensing measurement from the Dark Ener…
We measure the cross-correlation between redMaGiC galaxies selected from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Year-1 data and gravitational lensing of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) reconstructed from South Pole Telescope (SPT) and Planck data over 1289 sq. deg. When combining measurements across multiple galaxy redshift bins spanning the redshift range of $0.15<z<0.90$, we reject the hypothesis of no correlation at 19.9$σ$ significance. When removing small-scale data points where thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich signal and nonlinear galaxy bias could potentially bias our results, the detection signi…
The abundance of peaks in weak gravitational lensing maps is a potentially powerful cosmological tool, complementary to measurements of the shear power spectrum. We study peaks detected directly in shear maps, rather than convergence maps, an approach that has the advantage of working directly with the observable quantity, the galaxy ellipticity catalog. Using large numbers of numerical simulations to accurately predict the abundance of peaks and their covariance, we quantify the cosmological constraints attainable by a large-area survey similar to that expected from the Euclid mission, focuss…
Future data sets will enable cross-correlations between redshift space distortions (RSD) and weak lensing (WL). While photometric lensing and clustering cross-correlations have provided some of the tightest cosmological constraints to date, it is not well understood how to optimally perform similar RSD/WL joint analyses in a lossless way. RSD is typically measured in $3D$ redshift space, but WL is inherently a projected signal, making angular statistics a natural choice for the combined analysis. Thus, we determine the amount of RSD information that can be extracted using projected statistics.…
We describe the first spectroscopic tomographic (spectrotomographic) weak lensing measurement for a galaxy cluster based only on background galaxies with spectroscopically determined redshifts. We use the massive cluster A2029 to demonstrate the power of combining spectroscopy and lensing to obtain accurate masses and to overcome biases from contamination and photometric redshift errors. We detect the shear signal from the cluster at $>3.9 σ$. The shear signal scales with source redshift in a way that is consistent with the angular diameter distance ratio variation in a $Λ$CDM Universe. Furthe…
Intrinsic alignments of galaxies are recognised as one of the most important systematic in weak lensing surveys on small angular scales. In this paper we investigate ellipticity correlation functions that are measured separately on elliptical and spiral galaxies, for which we assume the generic alignment mechanisms based on tidal shearing and tidal torquing, respectively. Including morphological information allows to find linear combinations of measured ellipticity correlation functions which suppress the gravitational lensing signal completely or which show a strongly boosted gravitational le…
In order to investigate the origin of the ongoing tension between the amplitude of matter fluctuations measured by weak lensing experiments at low redshifts and the value inferred from the cosmic microwave background anisotropies, we reconstruct the evolution of this amplitude from $z\sim2$ using existing large-scale structure data. To do so, we decouple the linear growth of density inhomogeneities from the background expansion, and constrain its redshift dependence making use of a combination of 6 different data sets, including cosmic shear, galaxy clustering and CMB lensing. We analyze these…
We present current and future constraints on equations of state for dark sector perturbations. The equations of state considered are those corresponding to a generalized scalar field model and time-diffeomorphism invariant $L(g)$ theories that are equivalent to models of a relativistic elastic medium and also Lorentz violating massive gravity. We develop a theoretical understanding of the observable impact of these models. In order to constrain these models we use CMB temperature data from Planck, BAO measurements, CMB lensing data from Planck and the South Pole Telescope, and weak galaxy lens…
