In this paper, we investigate the existence of KAM tori for an infinite dimensional Hamiltonian system with finite number of zero normal frequencies. By constructing a constant quantity we show that, for "most" frequencies in the sense of Lebesgue measure, either if the quantity is zero, there is a KAM tori or if the quantity is not zero, there is no KAM tori in some domain. As application, we show that the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a zero frequency possesses many quasi-periodic solutions.
In this paper we develop some new KAM-technique to prove two general KAM theorems for nearly integrable hamiltonian systems without assuming any non-degeneracy condition. Many of KAM-type results (including the classical KAM theorem) are special cases of our theorems under some non-degeneracy condition and some smoothness condition. Moreover, we can obtain some interesting results about KAM tori with prescribed frequencies.
We prove an infinite-dimensional KAM theorem for a Hamiltonian system with sublinear growth frequencies at infinity. As an application, we prove the reducibility of the linear fractional Schrödinger equation with quasi-periodic time-dependent forcing.
By constructing an infinite dimensional KAM theorem of the normal frequencies being dense at finite-point, we show that some shallow water equations such as Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation and the generalized $d$-Dim. Pochhammer-Chree equation subject to some boundary conditions possess many (a family of initial values of positive Lebesgue measure of finite dimension) smooth solutions which are quasi-periodic in time.
We develop a new KAM scheme that applies to SL(2,R) cocycles with one frequency, irrespective of any Diophantine condition on the base dynamics. It gives a generalization of Dinaburg-Sinai's Theorem to arbitrary frequencies: under a closeness to constant assumption, the non-Abelian part of the classical reducibility problem can always be solved for a positive measure set of parameters.
We consider the persistence of smooth families of invariant tori in the reversible context 2 of KAM theory under various weak nondegeneracy conditions via Herman's method. The reversible KAM context 2 refers to the situation where the dimension of the fixed point manifold of the reversing involution is less than half the codimension of the invariant torus in question. The nondegeneracy conditions we employ ensure the preservation of any prescribed subsets of the frequencies of the unperturbed tori and of their Floquet exponents (the eigenvalues of the coefficient matrix of the variational equa…
A generalized Benjamin-Bona-Mahony (gBBM) equation subject to the periodic boundary condition is studied in this paper. Based on a new infinite dimensional Kolomogorov-Arnold-Moser (KAM) theorem with normal frequencies of finite limit-points, it is shown that the gBBM equation admits plenty of time-quasi-periodic solutions with two frequencies of high modes.
We consider the standard family of area-preserving twist maps of the annulus and the corresponding KAM curves. Addressing a question raised by Kolmogorov, we show that, instead of viewing these invariant curves as separate objects, each of which having its own Diophantine frequency, one can encode them in a single function of the frequency which is naturally defined in a complex domain containing the real Diophantine frequencies and which is monogenic in the sense of Borel; this implies a remarkable property of quasianalyticity, a form of uniqueness of the monogenic continuation, although real…
It is widespread since the beginning of KAM Theory that, under "sufficiently small" perturbation, of size $ε$, apart a set of measure $O(\sqrtε)$, all the KAM Tori of a non-degenerate integrable Hamiltonian system persist up to a small deformation. However, no explicit, self-contained proof of this fact exists so far. In the present Thesis, we give a detailed proof of how to get rid of a logarithmic correction (due to a Fourier cut-off) in Arnold's scheme and then use it to prove an explicit and "sharp" Theorem of integrability on Cantor-type set. In particular, we give an explicit proof of th…
It is proved that the KAM tori (thus quasi-periodic solutions) are long time stable for infinite dimensional Hamiltonian systems generated by nonlinear wave equation, by constructing a partial normal form of higher order around the KAM torus and showing $p$-tame property persists under KAM iterative procedure and normal form iterative procedure.
We apply the general normal form theorems in Kolmogorov spaces to three classical cases: deformations of hypersurface singularities, normal forms of vector fields and invariant tori in Hamiltonian systems.
We consider the KAM theory for rotational flows on an $n$-dimensional torus. We show that if its frequencies are diophantine of type $n-1$, then Moser's KAM theory with parameters applies to small perturbations of weaker regularity than $C^n$. Derivatives of order $n$ need not be continuous, but rather $L^2$ in a certain strong sense. This disproves the long standing conjecture that $C^n$ is the minimal regularity assumption for KAM to apply in this setting while still allowing for Herman's $C^{n-ε}\!$-counterexamples.
We consider Gevrey perturbations $H$ of a completely integrable Gevrey Hamiltonian $H_0$. Given a Cantor set $Ω_κ$ defined by a Diophantine condition, we find a family of KAM invariant tori of $H$ with frequencies $ω\in Ω_κ$ which is Gevrey smooth in a Whitney sense. Moreover, we obtain a symplectic Gevrey normal form of the Hamiltonian in a neighborhood of the union $Λ$ of the invariant tori. This leads to effective stability of the quasiperiodic motion near $Λ$.
In this paper, we establish an abstract infinite dimensional KAM theorem dealing with normal frequencies in weaker spectral asymptotics Ω_{i}(ξ)=i^d+o(i^{d})+o(i^δ), where $d>0, δ<0$, which can be applied to a large class of Hamiltonian partial differential equations in high dimensions. As a consequence, it is proved that there exist many invariant tori and thus quasi-periodic solutions for Schrödinger equations, the Klein-Gordon equations with exponential nonlinearity and other equations of any spatial dimension.

A method via the KAM technique is introduced to study the existence of invariant tori and quasiperiodic solutions for impulsive Duffing-type equations with time period 1. Basing on several planar symplectic homeomorphisms and some estimates of impulsive perturbations under each symplectic homeomorphisms, we prove via the Moser's twist theorem the boundedness (Lagrange stability) and the existence of an invariant circle for the equation with area-preserving impulsive terms. And this invariant circle having any rotation number $ω>ω_0$ with some $ω_0>0$, so we obtain also that the solutions start…
We develop an a-posteriori KAM theory for the equilibrium equations for quasi-periodic solutions in a quasi-periodic Frenkel-Kontorova model when the frequency of the solutions resonates with the frequencies of the substratum. The KAM theory we develop is very different both in the methods and in the conclusions from the more customary KAM theory for Hamiltonian systems or from the KAM theory in quasi-periodic media for solutions with frequencies which are Diophantine with respect to the frequencies of the media. The main difficulty is that we cannot use transformations (as in the Hamiltonian …
This paper is concerned with the stickiness of invariant tori obtained by KAM technics (so-called KAM tori) for higher dimensional beam equation. We prove that the KAM tori are sticky, i.e. the solutions starting in the $δ$-neighborhood of KAM torus still stay close to the KAM torus for a polynomial long time such as $|t|\leq δ^{-\mathcal{M}}$ with any $\mathcal{M}\geq 0$, by constructing a partial normal form of higher order, which satisfies $p$-tame property, around the KAM torus.
We study the accumulation of an elliptic fixed point of a real analytic Hamiltonian by quasi-periodic invariant tori. We show that a fixed point with Diophantine frequency vector $ø_0$ is always accumulated by invariant complex analytic KAM-tori. Indeed, the following alternative holds: If the Birkhoff normal form of the Hamiltonian at the invariant point satisfies a Rüssmann transversality condition, the fixed point is accumulated by real analytic KAM-tori which cover positive Lebesgue measure in the phase space (in this part it suffices to assume that $ø_0$ has rationally independent coordin…
In this note we use the normal forms of the completely resonant non--linear Schrödinger equation on a torus (NLS) derived in previous work in order to produce, under a KAM algorithm, large families of stable and unstable quasi periodic solutions for the NLS in any number of independent frequencies.
Motivated by the Lagrange top coupled to an oscillator, we consider the quasi-periodic Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation. To this end, we develop the normal linear stability theory of an invariant torus with a generic (i.e., non-semisimple) normal $1:-1$ resonance. This theory guarantees the persistence of the invariant torus in the Diophantine case and makes possible a further quasi-periodic normal form, necessary for investigation of the non-linear dynamics. As a consequence, we find Cantor families of invariant isotropic tori of all dimensions suggested by the integrable approximation.
In this paper we consider nonlinear Schrodinger systems with periodic boundary condition in high dimension. We establish an abstract infinite dimensional KAM theorem and apply it to the nonlinear Schrodinger equation systems with real Fourier Multiplier. By establishing a block-diagonal normal form, We prove the existence of a class of Whitney smooth small amplitude quasi-periodic solutions corresponding to finite dimensional invariant tori of an associated infinite dimensional dynamical system.
The purpose of this brief note is twofold. First, we summarize in a very concise form the principal information on Whitney smooth families of quasi-periodic invariant tori in various contexts of KAM theory. Our second goal is to attract (via an informal discussion and a simple example) the experts' attention to the peculiarities of the so-called excitation of elliptic normal modes in the reversible context 2.
We show that an analytic invariant torus $\cT_0$ with Diophantine frequency $ø_0$ is never isolated due to the following alternative. If the Birkhoff normal form of the Hamiltonian at $\cT_0$ satisfies a Rüssmann transversality condition, the torus $\cT_0$ is accumulated by KAM tori of positive total measure. If the Birkhoff normal form is degenerate, there exists a subvariety of dimension at least $d+1$ that is foliated by analytic invariant tori with frequency $ø_0$. For frequency vectors $ø_0$ having a finite uniform Diophantine exponent (this includes a residual set of Liouville vectors), …
We prove a general theorem on the persistence of Whitney infinitely smooth families of invariant tori in the reversible context 2 of KAM theory. This context refers to the situation where dim Fix G < (codim T)/2 where Fix G is the fixed point manifold of the reversing involution G and T is the invariant torus in question. Our result is obtained as a corollary of the theorem by H.W.Broer, M.-C.Ciocci, H.Hanssmann, and A.Vanderbauwhede of 2009 concerning quasi-periodic stability of invariant tori with singular "normal" matrices in reversible systems.
In this paper, we use geometry of numbers to relate two dual Diophantine problems. This allows us to focus on simultaneous approximations rather than small linear forms. As a consequence, we develop a new approach to the perturbation theory for quasi-periodic solutions dealing only with periodic approximations and avoiding classical small divisors estimates. We obtain two results of stability, in the spirit of the KAM and Nekhoroshev theorems, in the model case of a perturbation of a constant vector field on the $n$-dimensional torus. Our first result, which is a Nekhoroshev type theorem, is t…
Eliasson and Kuksin developed a KAM approach to study the persistence of the invariant tori for nonlinear Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb{T}^{d}$. In this note, we improve Eliasson and Kuksin's KAM theorem by using Kolmogorov's iterative scheme and obtain a local normal form for the transformed Hamiltonian. As a consequence, we are able to derive the time $δ^{-1}$ stability of the obtained KAM tori.
We study the planetary system of $\upsilon$~Andromedæ, considering the three-body problem formed by the central star and the two largest planets, $\upsilon$~And~\emph{c} and $\upsilon$~And~\emph{d}. We adopt a secular, three-dimensional model and initial conditions within the range of the observed values. The numerical integrations highlight that the system is orbiting around a one-dimensional elliptic torus (i.e., a periodic orbit that is linearly stable). This invariant object is used as a seed for an algorithm based on a sequence of canonical transformations. The algorithm determines the no…
In this paper, we develop an approach to the problem of closing lemma based on KAM normal form. The new approach differs from existing $C^1$ perturbation approach and spectral approach, and can handle the high regularity, high dimensional cases and even Riemannian metric perturbations. Moreover, the proof is constructive and effective. We apply the method to the original nearly integrable setting of Poincaré and confirm several old and new conjectures with weak formulations. First, for Poincaré's original setting of nearly integrable systems, we prove that for typical perturbations, periodic o…
We investigate the stability loss of invariant n-dimensional quasi-periodic tori during a double Hopf bifurcation, where at bifurcation the two normal frequencies are in normal-normal resonance. Invariants are used to analyse the normal form approximations in a unified manner. The corresponding dynamics form a skeleton for the dynamics of the original system. Here both normal hyperbolicity and KAM theory are being used.
This is part I of a book on KAM theory. We start from basic symplectic geometry, review Darboux-Weinstein theorems action angle coordinates and their global obstructions. Then we explain the content of Kolmogorov's invariant torus theorem and make it more general allowing discussion of arbitrary invariant Lagrangian varieties over general Poisson algebras. We include it into the general problem of normal forms and group actions. We explain the iteration method used by Kolmogorov by giving a finite dimensional analog. Part I explains in which context we apply the theory of Kolmogorov spaces whi…
This is part II of our book on KAM theory. We start by defining functorial analysis and then switch to the particular case of Kolmogorov spaces. We develop functional calculus based on the notion of local operators. This allows to define the exponential and therefore relation between Lie algebra and Lie group actions in the infinite dimensional context. Then we introduce a notion of finite dimensional reduction and use it to prove a fixed point theorem for Kolmogorov spaces. We conclude by proving general normal theorems.
{\bf Abstract}: The existence of 2-dimensional KAM tori is proved for the perturbed generalized nonlinear vibrating string equation with singularities $u_{tt}=((1-x^2)u_x)_x-mu-u^3$ subject to certain boundary conditions by means of infinite-dimensional KAM theory with the help of partial Birkhoff normal form, the characterization of the singular function space and the estimate of the integrals related to Legendre basis.
We consider the nonlinear Schrödinger equation of degree five on the circle $\mathbb{S}^1 = \mathbb{R}/2π$. We prove the existence of quasi-periodic solutions which bifurcate from "resonant" solutions (studied in [14]) of the system obtained by truncating the Hamiltonian after one step of Birkhoff normal form, exhibiting recurrent exchange of energy between some Fourier modes. The existence of these quasi-periodic solutions is a purely nonlinear effect.
In this paper, it is proved that the infinite KAM torus with prescribed frequency exists in a sufficiently small neighborhood of a given $ I^{0}$ for nearly integrable and analytic Hamiltonian system $ H(I,θ) = H_{0}(I)+ εH_{1}(I,θ)$ of infinite degree of freedom and of short range. That is to say, we will give an extension of the original Kolmogorov theorem to the infinite-dimensional case of short range. The proof is based on the approximation of finite-dimensional Kolmogorov theorem and an improved KAM machinery which works for the normal form depending on initial $ I^{0}$.
We reconsider a control theory for Hamiltonian systems, that was introduced on the basis of KAM theory and applied to a model of magnetic field in previous articles. By a combination of Frequency Analysis and of a rigorous (Computer Assisted) KAM algorithm we prove that in the phase space of the magnetic field, due to the control term, a set of invariant tori appear, and it acts as a transport barrier. Our analysis, which is common (but often also limited) to Celestial Mechanics, is based on a normal form approach; it is also quite general and can be applied to quasi-integrable Hamiltonian sys…
