In this work, I briefly report on constraints that can be obtained on new physics models that extend the scalar sector of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics at the LHC. I concentrate on a few simple examples which serve to demonstrate advantages as well as possible drawbacks of current experimental searches, and comment on the discovery prospects of such models at future colliders.
I briefly review the crucial role an $\emem$ linear collider could play in unravelling the nature of a non-minimal Higgs sector and/or strongly-interacting $WW$ sector.
Signatures of extended gauge models at high energy \epem\ linear colliders are summarized. Talk presented at the Workshop on Physics and Experiments with Linear \epem\ Colliders, Waikoloa, Hawaii, April 1993.
This Thesis is devoted to the study of the phenomenology of the Higgs sector of the minimal $B-L$ extension of the Standard Model at present and future colliders. Firstly, the motivations that call for the minimal $B-L$ extension are summarised. In addition, the model is analysed in its salient parts. Moreover, a detailed review of the phenomenological allowed Higgs sector parameter space is given. Finally, a complete survey of the distinctive Higgs boson signatures of the model at both the Large Hadron Collider and the future linear colliders is presented.
In this review we demonstrate physics potential of a photon linear collider by studying the neutral Higgs-boson sector of the MSSM in which interesting CP-violating Higgs mixing could arise via radiative corrections.
The theoretical structure of the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is briefly described. An outline of Higgs phenomenology at future lepton colliders is presented, and some opportunities for probing the physics of the MSSM Higgs sector at an e-e- collider are considered.
We present a comprehensive analysis on the MSSM Higgs sector CP violation at photon colliders including the chargino contributions as well as the contributions of other charged particles. The chargino loop contributions can be important for the would-be CP odd Higgs production at photon colliders. Polarization asymmetries are indispensable in determining the CP properties of neutral Higgs bosons.
I survey the characteristics of hadron colliders as tools to investigate top-quark physics and to explore the 1-TeV scale of electroweak symmetry breaking.
We give a brief overview of searches at TeV e^+e^- colliders for new particles that arise in models with extended gauge sectors. We concentrate on some recent developments in $W'$ searches and on leptoquark searches. We also briefly mention $Z'$ searches.
After the discovery of a particle that complies with the properties of the Higgs boson predicted by the Standard Model, particle physics has entered an exciting era. One important question is whether the scalar sector realized by Nature indeed corresponds to the one predicted by the SM, or whether the resonance at 125 GeV is a manifestation of a more extended scalar sector, and additional scalar states could be observed at current or future collider facilities.
After the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, particle physics has entered an exciting era. An important question is whether the Standard Model of particle physics correctly describes the scalar sector realized by nature, or whether it is part of a more extended model, featuring additional particle content. A prime way to test this is to probe models with extended scalar sectors at future collider facilities. We here discuss such models in the context of high-luminosity LHC, a possible proton-proton collider with 27 and 100 TeV center-of-mass energy, as well as future lepton colliders with v…
In this paper, we review the role of a multi-TeV $e^+e^-$ linear collider to complete the mapping of the Higgs boson profile and studying heavier bosons in extended scenarios with more than one Higgs doublet.
Dark sectors with strong interactions have received considerable interest. Assuming the existence of a minimally coupled dark sector which runs to strong interactions in the infrared, we address the question whether the scaling behavior of this dark sector can be observed in missing energy signatures at present and future hadron colliders. We compare these findings to the concrete case of self-interacting dark matter and demonstrate that the energy dependence of high-momentum transfer final states can in principle be used to gain information about the UV structure of hidden sectors at future h…
In this proceeding, I summarize results on various new physics extensions of the Standard Model, for models with and without dark matter candidates. I discuss current constraints as well as rates and discovery prospects at future colliders.
We discuss the prospects for detecting at a muon collider the massive new vector resonances V and light pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons P of a typical strongly interacting electroweak sector (as represented by the BESS model). Expected sensitivities to V's at a high energy collider are evaluated and the excellent prospects for discovering P's via scanning at a low energy collider are delineated.
In this work we have studied the phenomenological properties at future e+e- linear colliders of two models of strong electroweak symmetry breaking, characterized by the presence of new spin one strong interacting resonances.
The top quark data in the lepton plus $τ$ channel offers a viable probe for the charged Higgs boson signal. We analyse the recent Tevatron collider data in this channel to obtain a significant limit on the $H^\pm$ mass in the large $\tanβ$ region.
$Z^\prime$ boson as a new gauge boson has been proposed in many new physics models. The interactions of $Z^\prime$ coupling to fermions are detailed studied at the large hadron collider. A $Z^\prime$ with the mass of a few TeV has been excluded in some special models. The future lepton colliders will focus on the studies of Higgs physics which provide the advantage to investigate the interactions of Higgs boson with the new gauge bosons. We investigate the $Z^\prime ZH$ interaction via the process of $e^+e^- \to Z^\prime/Z \to ZH \to l^+l^- b \bar{b}$. The angular distribution of the final lep…
We explore the possibility that the dark matter relic density is not produced by thermal mechanism directly, but by the decay of other heavier dark sector particles which on the other hand can be produced by the thermal freeze-out mechanism. Using a concrete model with a light dark matter from dark sector decay, we study the collider signature of the dark sector particles in association with Higgs production processes. We find that the future lepton colliders can be a better place to probe the signature of this kind of light dark matter model than the hadron collider such as LHC. Meanwhile, it…
In the Randall-Sundrum model there can be a rich new phenomenology associated with Higgs-radion mixing. A photon-photon collider would provide a crucial complement to the LHC and a future ILC collider for fully determining the parameters of the model and definitively testing it.
The CP properties of Higgs bosons can be probed through their s-channel resonance productions via photon-photon collisions by use of circularly and/or linearly polarized backscattered laser photons at a TeV-scale linear e^+ e^- collider. Exploiting this powerful tool, we investigate in detail the Higgs sector of the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model with explicit CP violation.
We explore the collider signatures of the Higgs sectors in singlet-extended MSSM models. We find that even with reduced couplings due to singlet mixing, a significant portion of the parameter spaces have a discoverable Higgs via traditional decay modes or via invisible decays (directly to neutralinos or through cascade decays to neutralinos and neutrinos). For illustrative points in parameter space we give the likelihood of Higgs discovery. In cases where neither traditional nor invisible modes can discover the Higgs, the neutralino sector may provide evidence for the extended models.
We summarize the results of the New Gauge Boson Subgroup on the physics of extended gauge sectors at future colliders as presented at the 1996 Snowmass workshop. We discuss the direct and indirect search reaches for new gauge bosons at both hadron and lepton colliders as well as the ability of such machines to extract detailed information on the couplings of these particles to the fermions and gauge bosons of the Standard Model. [To appear in the Proceedings of the 1996 DPF/DPB Summer Study on New Directions for High Energy Physics-Snowmass96, Snowmass, CO, 25 June-12 July, 1996.]
Minimal scenarios with light (sub-GeV) thermal dark matter are usually accompanied by a correspondingly light "dark sector". Taking as an example a simple fermionic dark matter model, we will show that the presence of the dark sector plays a key role in constraining such scenarios at accelerators experiments. The effect of including a dark Higgs boson in the light spectrum is in particular investigated.
We summarise the phenomenology of the Higgs sector of the minimal $B-L$ extension of the Standard Model at an $e^+e^-$ Linear Collider. Within such a scenario, we show that (in comparison with the Large Hadron Collider) several novel production and decay channels involving the two physical Higgs states could experimentally be accessed at such a machine. In particular, we present the scope of the $Z'$ strahlung process for single and double Higgs production, the only suitable mechanism for accessing an almost decoupled heavy scalar state.
Leptoquarks are one of the possible candidates for explaining various anomalies in flavour physics. Nonetheless, their existence is yet to be confirmed from experimental side. In this paper we have shown how zeros of single photon tree-level amplitude can be used to extract information about leptoquarks in case of $e$-$γ$ colliders. Small number of standard model backgrounds keep the signal clean in this kind of colliders. Unlike other colliders, the zeros of single photon amplitude here depend on $\sqrt{s}$ as well as the mass of leptoquark along with its electric charge. We perform a PYTHIA …
An effective lagrangian describing a strong interacting electroweak sector is considered. It contains new vector and axial-vector resonances all degenerate in mass and mixed with $W$ and $Z$. The model, for large mass of these degenerate gauge bosons, becomes identical to the standard model in the classical limit of infinite Higgs mass. The limits on the parameter space of this model from future $e^+e^-$ colliders are presented.
We calculate the production rate of gauge-boson pairs at $e^+e^-$ colliders in a model with a ``hidden'' electroweak symmetry breaking sector - i.e. one in which there are a large number of particles in the symmetry breaking sector other than the $W^{\pm}$ \thinspace and the $Z^0$. In such a model, the elastic $W^{\pm}$ \thinspace and $Z^0$ scattering amplitudes are small and structureless, i.e. lacking any discernable resonances, at all energies. We show that two gauge boson fusion signal of electroweak symmetry breaking is swamped by the background. Therefore, we cannot rely on gauge boson p…
We study the phenomenological implications of the Higgs sector CP violation at a photon collider. In our model, the CP violation is radiatively induced by the non-trivial CP phases of the third-generation scalar-quark sector in the MSSM. We re-evaluate the $s$-channel resonance production cross sections and the polarization asymmetries of the neutral Higgs bosons based on the calculation of the mass matrix of the neutral Higgs bosons which is valid for any values of the relevant SUSY parameters. The CP properties of the Higgs bosons can be precisely probed through their $s$-channel resonance p…
We investigate the potential collider signatures of singly-charged and doubly-charged Higgs bosons such as those arising in minimal left-right symmetric models. Focusing on multileptonic probes in the context of the high-luminosity run of the Large Hadron Collider, we separately assess the advantages of the four-leptonic and trileptonic final states for a representative benchmark setup designed by considering a large set of experimental constraints. Our study establishes possibilities of identifying singly-charged and doubly-charged scalars at the Large Hadron Collider with a large significanc…
If there are no light Higgs bosons found below $\cal O$(800 GeV) or so, the interactions among longitudinally-polarized vector bosons ($\wl$) will become strong at the TeV region, and new physics that is responsible for the electroweak symmetry breaking must emerge at this energy scale. We discuss the phenomenological prospects of the Strongly-interacting Electro-Weak Sector (SEWS) at future TeV linear colliders and hadronic supercolliders.
We add fermions to an abelian-gauged hidden sector. We show that the lightest can be the dark matter with the right thermal relic abundance, and discovery is within reach of upcoming dark matter detectors. We also show that these fermions change Higgs boson phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and in particular could induce a large invisible width to the lightest Higgs boson state. Such an invisibly decaying Higgs boson can be discovered with good significance in the vector boson fusion channel at the LHC.
The phenomenology of dark sector is complicated if dark sector is charged under a confined hidden gauge group. In such kind of model, a dark parton produced at a high energy collider showers and hadronize to a cluster of dark mesons. Dark mesons then decay to visible particles and produce a jet-like signal, which is called "dark jet" in this work. Collider signal of dark jet depends on the property of dark mesons. For example, a finite lifetime of dark meson would provide displaced vertex or displaced track, thus one can use these displaced objects to tag dark jet. However if the lifetime of d…
Loop driven decay modes of the Higgs are sensitive to new physics contributions because of new particles in the loops. To highlight this we look at the dilepton-dijet signal in the dominant Higgs production channel at a linear e+e- collider. We show that by taking a simple ratio between cross-sections of two different final states such contributions can be very easily identified.
We study the expected phenomenology at present (Tevatron) and future (Tevatron Upgrade, LHC) hadronic colliders of a model describing a strong electroweak symmetry breaking sector with both vector and axial vector strong interacting bosons degenerate in mass. Due to decoupling, this model at low energies is almost indistinguishable from the Standard Model, passing therefore all low energy precision tests at LEPI. We will show that it gives quite visible signals at forthcoming hadronic accelerators. The new charged vector bosons can be detected more easily than the neutral ones.
In this proceeding, I discuss several models that extend the scalar sector of the Standard Model by additional matter states. I here focus on results for models with singlet extensions, which have been obtained recently and update some of the results presented in previous work. In more detail, I will briefly review the option to test a strong first-order electroweak phase transition using precision measurements in the electroweak sector, as well as production cross-sections for non-standard scalar production at Higgs factories.
We consider a general two-Higgs-doublet model with CP violation in the scalar sector. Three neutral Higgs fields of the model all mix and the resulting physical Higgs bosons have no definite CP properties. That leads, at the one-loop level of the perturbation expansion, to CP-violating form factors for gamma-t-tbar, Z-t-tbar and W-t-b interaction vertices. We discuss asymmetries sensitive to CP violation induced by the form factors for the process e^+ e^- -> t tbar -> l^\pm ... and e^+ e^- -> t tbar -> b/bbar ... at future linear e+ e- colliders.
We investigate the potential of current and planned hadron colliders operating at the TeV scale in disentangling the structure of the Higgs sector of non-minimal Supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model with an extra gauge singlet. We assume universality of the soft Supersymmetry breaking terms at the GUT scale as well as a CP-even Higgs boson with mass around 115 GeV, as suggested by LEP. We find that mixing angles between the doublet and singlet Higgs states are always small. However, concrete prospects exist at both the Tevatron (Run II) and the Large Hadron Collider of detecting at …
We perform a preliminary study of the deviations from the Standard Model prediction for the cross section for the process $e γ\rightarrow ν_e W γ$. We work in the context of a higgsless chiral lagrangian model that includes an extra vector resonance $V$ and an anomalous $γW V$ coupling. We find that this cross section can provide interesting constraints on the free parameters of the model once it is measured in future $e γ$ colliders.
If the length scale of possible extra dimensions is large enough, the effective Planck scale is lowered such that microscopic black holes could be produced in collisions of high-energy particles at colliders. These black holes evaporate through Hawking radiation of a handful of energetic particles drawn from the set of all kinematically and thermally allowed degrees of freedom, including dark matter. Here, we perform the first numerical black hole spectroscopic study of the dark sector. We find that if the next generation of colliders can produce microscopic black holes, then missing momentum …
We survey techniques for finding a CP-odd Higgs boson, A, at the Linear Collider that do not depend upon the presence of other light Higgs bosons. The potential reach in $[m_A,\tanβ]$ parameter space for various production/discovery modes is evaluated and regions where discovery might not be possible at a given $\sqrt{s}$ are delineated. We give, for the first time, results for $\epem\to ν\antiνA$ one-loop $W$ boson fusion production.
We discuss the model independent parameterization for a strongly interacting electroweak sector. Phenomenological studies are made to probe such a sector for future colliders such as the LHC, $e^+e^-$ Linear collider and a muon collider.
We discuss the phenomenology of several Beyond the Standard Model (SM) extensions that include extended Higgs sectors. The models discussed are: the SM extended by a complex singlet field (CxSM), the 2-Higgs-Doublet Model with a CP-conserving (2HDM) and a CP-violating (C2HDM) scalar sector, the singlet extension of the 2-Higgs-Doublet Model (N2HDM), and the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric SM extension (NMSSM). All the above models have at least three neutral scalars, with one being the 125 GeV Higgs boson. This common feature allows us to compare the production and decay rates of the other two …
We study the dilepton-dijet signal in the dominant Higgs production channel at a linear e+ e- collider. We estimate the effects of Universal Extra Dimension (UED) by a simple analysis of the cross-sections. The heavy Kaluza-Klein excitations of the Standard Model fields in UED can significantly alter the decay properties of the Higgs boson to loop-driven final states. We show that by taking a simple ratio between cross-sections of two different final states this difference can be very easily highlighted.
We study the possibility of measuring the muon Yukawa couplings in s-channel Higgs boson production at a muon collider with transversely polarized beams. We investigate sensitivity to the relative size of the CP-odd and CP-even muon Yukawa couplings. Provided the event rate observed justifies the operation of the mu+mu- Higgs boson factory, we find that 40% polarization for both beams is sufficient to resolve the CP nature of a single resonance as well as disentangle it from two overlapping CP conserving resonances.
The study of the scattering at high energy of the gauge bosons W and Z, in particular longitudinally polarized W and Z, can clarify the mechanism of spontaneous symmetry breaking in the Standard Model of the electroweak interactions. Different models of strong electroweak sector, based on the effective lagrangian approach are briefly reviewed. They include models with no resonance, with scalar resonance, additional vector and axial-vector resonances. The effective Lagrangians are derived from the chiral symmetry of the symmetry breaking sector. Limits on these models from existing measurements…
The CP structure of the Higgs sector will be of great interest to future colliders. The measurement of the CP properties of candidate Higgs particles will be essential in order to distinguish models of electroweak symmetry breaking, and to discover or place limits on CP-violation in the Higgs sector. In this report we briefly summarize various methods of determining the CP properties of Higgs bosons at different colliders and identify areas where more study is required. We also provide an example of a synergy between the LHC, an e+e- Linear Collider and a Photon Collider, for the examination o…
The status of the Standard Model (SM) is reviewed. We emphazize the fact that in spite of the success of the SM for the descrition of the fermionic sector, the status of the bosonic sector (gauge and scalar) suffers from many theoretical deficiencies and from the lack of empirical support. This situation, which leaves room for several types of extensions or alternatives to SM, strongly motivates the pursue of intense efforts for finding hints of New Physics (NP) effects. We present a phenomenological description valid for energies lying below the NP scale. We discuss the indirect constraints e…
We examine the prospects for determining $tan β$ from heavy Higgs scalar production in the minimal supersymmetric standard model at a future $e^+ e^-$ collider. Our analysis is independent of assumptions of parameter unification, and we consider general radiative corrections in the Higgs sector. Bounds are presented for $\sqrt{s} = 500$ GeV and 1 TeV, several Higgs masses, a variety of integrated luminosities and b-tagging efficiencies, and in scenarios with and without supersymmetric decays of the Higgs bosons. We find stringent constraints for $3 \alt tan β\alt 10$, and, for some scenarios, …
We consider a broad class of supersymmetric theories in which dark matter (DM) is the lightest superpartner (LSP) of a hidden sector that couples very weakly to visible sector fields. Portal interactions connecting visible and hidden sectors mediate the decay of the lightest observable superpartner (LOSP) into the LSP, allowing the LHC to function as a spectacular probe of the origin of hidden sector DM. As shown in a companion paper, this general two-sector framework allows only for a handful of DM production mechanisms, each of which maps to a distinctive window in lifetimes and cross-sectio…
The possibility of a scalar messenger that can couple the Standard Model (SM) to a hidden sector has been discussed in a variety of contexts in the literature in recent years. We consider the case that a new scalar singlet charged under an exotic spontaneously broken Abelian gauge symmetry mixes weakly with the SM Higgs resulting in two scalar mass states, one of which has heavily suppressed couplings to the SM particles. Previous phenomenological studies have focussed on potential signatures for such a model at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). However, there are interesting regions of the par…
Little experimental data bears on the question of whether there is a spontaneously broken hidden sector that has no Standard Model quantum numbers. Here we discuss the prospects of finding evidence for such a hidden sector through renormalizable interactions of the Standard Model Higgs boson with a Higgs boson of the hidden sector. We find that the lightest Higgs boson in this scenario has smaller rates in standard detection channels, and it can have a sizeable invisible final state branching fraction. Details of the hidden sector determine whether the overall width of the lightest state is sm…
If dark matter (DM) interacts with the Standard Model (SM) via the kinetic mixing (KM) portal, it necessitates the existence of massive, likely $\gsim 1$ TeV, enabler portal matter (PM) particles that carry both dark and SM quantum numbers which will appear in vacuum polarization-like loop graphs. Such heavy states are only directly accessible at high energy colliders and apparently lie at mass scales beyond the direct kinematic reach of the ILC, CEPC and FCC-ee. A likely possibility is that these new particles are part of the 'next step' toward a UV-complete scenario describing both the SM an…
One of the main motivations for low energy supersymmetric theories is their ability to address the hierarchy and naturalness problems in the Higgs sector of the Standard Model. In these theories, at least two doublets of scalar fields are required to break the electroweak symmetry and to generate the masses of the elementary particles, resulting in a rather rich Higgs spectrum. The search for the Higgs bosons of Supersymmetry and the determination of their basic properties is one of the major goals of high--energy colliders and, in particular, the LHC which will soon start operation. We review…
We proposed the spontaneous CP-violation in the Simplest Little Higgs model. In this model, the pseudoscalar field can acquire a nonzero vacuum expected value. It leads to a mixing between the two scalars with different CP-charge, which means spontaneous CP-violation happens. It is also a connection between composite Higgs mechanism and CP-violation. Facing the experimental constraints, the model is still alive for both scenarios in which the extra scalar appears below or around the electro-weak scale. We also discussed the future collider tests on CP-violation in the scalar sector through mea…
We investigate the phenomenology of the Higgs sector of the minimal $B-L$ extension of the Standard Model at a future $e^+e^-$ Linear Collider. We consider the discovery potential of both a sub-TeV and a multi-TeV machine. We show that, within such a theoretical scenario, several novel production and decay channels involving the two physical Higgs states, precluded at the LHC, could experimentally be accessed at such machines. Amongst these, several Higgs signatures have very distinctive features with respect to those of other models with enlarged Higgs sector, as they involve interactions of …
