Detecting fashion landmarks is a fundamental technique for visual clothing analysis. Due to the large variation and non-rigid deformation of clothes, localizing fashion landmarks suffers from large spatial variances across poses, scales, and styles. Therefore, understanding contextual knowledge of clothes is required for accurate landmark detection. To that end, in this paper, we propose a fashion landmark detection network with a global-local embedding module. The global-local embedding module is based on a non-local operation for capturing long-range dependencies and a subsequent convolution operation for adopting local neighborhood relations. With this processing, the network can consider both global and local contextual knowledge for a clothing image. We demonstrate that our proposed method has an excellent ability to learn advanced deep feature representations for fashion landmark detection. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets show that the proposed network outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. Our code is available at https://github.com/shumming/GLE_FLD.

Visual fashion analysis has attracted many attentions in the recent years. Previous work represented clothing regions by either bounding boxes or human joints. This work presents fashion landmark detection or fashion alignment, which is to predict the positions of functional key points defined on the fashion items, such as the corners of neckline, hemline, and cuff. To encourage future studies, we introduce a fashion landmark dataset with over 120K images, where each image is labeled with eight landmarks. With this dataset, we study fashion alignment by cascading multiple convolutional neural …
Fashion landmark detection is a challenging task even using the current deep learning techniques, due to the large variation and non-rigid deformation of clothes. In order to tackle these problems, we propose Spatial-Aware Non-Local (SANL) block, an attentive module in deep neural network which can utilize spatial information while capturing global dependency. Actually, the SANL block is constructed from the non-local block in the residual manner which can learn the spatial related representation by taking a spatial attention map from Grad-CAM. We then establish our fashion landmark detection …

Fashion landmarks are functional key points defined on clothes, such as corners of neckline, hemline, and cuff. They have been recently introduced as an effective visual representation for fashion image understanding. However, detecting fashion landmarks are challenging due to background clutters, human poses, and scales. To remove the above variations, previous works usually assumed bounding boxes of clothes are provided in training and test as additional annotations, which are expensive to obtain and inapplicable in practice. This work addresses unconstrained fashion landmark detection, wher…

Recent advanced methods for fashion landmark detection are mainly driven by training convolutional neural networks on large-scale fashion datasets, which has a large number of annotated landmarks. However, such large-scale annotations are difficult and expensive to obtain in real-world applications, thus models that can generalize well from a small amount of labelled data are desired. We investigate this problem of few-shot fashion landmark detection, where only a few labelled samples are available for an unseen task. This work proposes a novel framework named MetaCloth via meta-learning, whic…

Detecting dense landmarks for diverse clothes, as a fundamental technique for clothes analysis, has attracted increasing research attention due to its huge application potential. However, due to the lack of modeling underlying semantic layout constraints among landmarks, prior works often detect ambiguous and structure-inconsistent landmarks of multiple overlapped clothes in one person. In this paper, we propose to seamlessly enforce structural layout relationships among landmarks on the intermediate representations via multiple stacked layout-graph reasoning layers. We define the layout-graph…

Clothing retrieval is a challenging problem in computer vision. With the advance of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), the accuracy of clothing retrieval has been significantly improved. FashionNet[1], a recent study, proposes to employ a set of artificial features in the form of landmarks for clothing retrieval, which are shown to be helpful for retrieval. However, the landmark detection module is trained with strong supervision which requires considerable efforts to obtain. In this paper, we propose a self-learning Visual Attention Model (VAM) to extract attention maps from clothing image…
In this paper, we develop a robust 3D garment digitization solution that can generalize well on real-world fashion catalog images with cloth texture occlusions and large body pose variations. We assumed fixed topology parametric template mesh models for known types of garments (e.g., T-shirts, Trousers) and perform mapping of high-quality texture from an input catalog image to UV map panels corresponding to the parametric mesh model of the garment. We achieve this by first predicting a sparse set of 2D landmarks on the boundary of the garments. Subsequently, we use these landmarks to perform T…
The success of deep learning methods relies on the availability of a large number of datasets with annotations; however, curating such datasets is burdensome, especially for medical images. To relieve such a burden for a landmark detection task, we explore the feasibility of using only a single annotated image and propose a novel framework named Cascade Comparing to Detect (CC2D) for one-shot landmark detection. CC2D consists of two stages: 1) Self-supervised learning (CC2D-SSL) and 2) Training with pseudo-labels (CC2D-TPL). CC2D-SSL captures the consistent anatomical information in a coarse-t…

We propose a new Patch-based Iterative Network (PIN) for fast and accurate landmark localisation in 3D medical volumes. PIN utilises a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to learn the spatial relationship between an image patch and anatomical landmark positions. During inference, patches are repeatedly passed to the CNN until the estimated landmark position converges to the true landmark location. PIN is computationally efficient since the inference stage only selectively samples a small number of patches in an iterative fashion rather than a dense sampling at every location in the volume. Our …

In this paper, we present a two-stream multi-task network for fashion recognition. This task is challenging as fashion clothing always contain multiple attributes, which need to be predicted simultaneously for real-time industrial systems. To handle these challenges, we formulate fashion recognition into a multi-task learning problem, including landmark detection, category and attribute classifications, and solve it with the proposed deep convolutional neural network. We design two knowledge sharing strategies which enable information transfer between tasks and improve the overall performance.…

3D face shape is more expressive and viewpoint-consistent than its 2D counterpart. However, 3D facial landmark localization in a single image is challenging due to the ambiguous nature of landmarks under 3D perspective. Existing approaches typically adopt a suboptimal two-step strategy, performing 2D landmark localization followed by depth estimation. In this paper, we propose the Joint Voxel and Coordinate Regression (JVCR) method for 3D facial landmark localization, addressing it more effectively in an end-to-end fashion. First, a compact volumetric representation is proposed to encode the p…

Fashion products typically feature in compositions of a variety of styles at different clothing parts. In order to distinguish images of different fashion products, we need to extract both appearance (i.e., "how to describe") and localization (i.e.,"where to look") information, and their interactions. To this end, we propose a biologically inspired framework for image-based fashion product retrieval, which mimics the hypothesized twostream visual processing system of human brain. The proposed attentional heterogeneous bilinear network (AHBN) consists of two branches: a deep CNN branch to extra…
Heatmap regression has been used for landmark localization for quite a while now. Most of the methods use a very deep stack of bottleneck modules for heatmap classification stage, followed by heatmap regression to extract the keypoints. In this paper, we present a single dendritic CNN, termed as Pose Conditioned Dendritic Convolution Neural Network (PCD-CNN), where a classification network is followed by a second and modular classification network, trained in an end to end fashion to obtain accurate landmark points. Following a Bayesian formulation, we disentangle the 3D pose of a face image e…

Understanding fashion images has been advanced by benchmarks with rich annotations such as DeepFashion, whose labels include clothing categories, landmarks, and consumer-commercial image pairs. However, DeepFashion has nonnegligible issues such as single clothing-item per image, sparse landmarks (4~8 only), and no per-pixel masks, making it had significant gap from real-world scenarios. We fill in the gap by presenting DeepFashion2 to address these issues. It is a versatile benchmark of four tasks including clothes detection, pose estimation, segmentation, and retrieval. It has 801K clothing i…
In this study, we investigate in-shop clothing retrieval performance of densely-connected Capsule Networks with dynamic routing. To achieve this, we propose Triplet-based design of Capsule Network architecture with two different feature extraction methods. In our design, Stacked-convolutional (SC) and Residual-connected (RC) blocks are used to form the input of capsule layers. Experimental results show that both of our designs outperform all variants of the baseline study, namely FashionNet, without relying on the landmark information. Moreover, when compared to the SOTA architectures on cloth…

Instance-level image retrieval is the task of searching in a large database for images that match an object in a query image. To address this task, systems usually rely on a retrieval step that uses global image descriptors, and a subsequent step that performs domain-specific refinements or reranking by leveraging operations such as geometric verification based on local features. In this work, we propose Reranking Transformers (RRTs) as a general model to incorporate both local and global features to rerank the matching images in a supervised fashion and thus replace the relatively expensive p…
