In this work, we explore the space of quantum states composed of $N$ particles. To investigate the entanglement resistant to particles loss, we introduce the notion of $m$-resistant states. A quantum state is $m$-resistant if it remains entangled after losing an arbitrary subset of m particles, but becomes separable after losing a number of particles larger than $m$. We establish an analogy to the problem of designing a topological link consisting of $N$ rings such that, after cutting any $(m + 1)$ of them, the remaining rings become disconnected. We present a constructive solution to this problem, which allows us to exhibit several distinguished $N$-particles states with the desired property of entanglement resistance to a particle loss.
We analyze robustness of correlations of the $N$-qubit GHZ and Dicke states against white noise admixture. For sufficiently large $N$, the Dicke states (for any number of excitations) lead to more robust violation of local realism than the GHZ states (e.g. for $N=9$ for the W state). We also identify states that are the most resistant to white noise. Surprisingly, it turns out that these states are partially product. As a by-product, we obtain a simple three-setting Bell inequality which is violated by any pure entangled state.
Future quantum information networks will likely consist of quantum and classical agents, who have the ability to communicate in a variety of ways with trusted and untrusted parties and securely delegate computational tasks to untrusted large-scale quantum computing servers. Multipartite quantum entanglement is a fundamental resource for such a network and hence it is imperative to study the possibility of verifying a multipartite entanglement source in a way that is efficient and provides strong guarantees even in the presence of multiple dishonest parties. In this work, we show how an agent o…
We use techniques for lower bounds on communication to derive necessary conditions in terms of detector efficiency or amount of super-luminal communication for being able to reproduce with classical local hidden-variable theories the quantum correlations occurring in EPR-type experiments in the presence of noise. We apply our method to an example involving n parties sharing a GHZ-type state on which they carry out measurements and show that for local-hidden variable theories, the amount of super-luminal classical communication c and the detector efficiency eta are constrained by eta 2^(-c/n) =…
We show that arbitrary functions of continuous variables, e.g. position and momentum, can be used to generate tests that distinguish quantum theory from local hidden variable theories. By optimising these functions, we obtain more robust violations of local causality than obtained previously. We analytically calculate the optimal function and include the effect of nonideal detectors and noise, revealing that optimized functional inequalities are resistant to standard forms of decoherence. These inequalities could allow a loophole-free Bell test with efficient homodyne detection.
We introduce algebriac sets in the products of complex projective spaces for multipartite mixed states, which are independent of their eigenvalues and only measure the "position" of their eigenvectors, as their non-local invariants (ie. remaining invariant after local untary transformations). These invariants are naturally arised from the physical consideration of checking multipartite mixed states by measuring them with multipartite separable pure states. The algebraic sets have to be the sum of linear subspaces if the multipartite mixed state is separable, and thus we give a new separability…
Construction of genuinely entangled multipartite subspaces with certain characteristics has become a relevant task in various branches of quantum information. Here we show that such subspaces can be obtained from an arbitrary collection of bipartite entangled subspaces under joining of their adjacent subsystems. In addition, it is shown that direct sums of such constructions under certain conditions are genuinely entangled. These facts are then used in detecting entanglement of tensor products of mixed states and constructing subspaces that are distillable across every bipartite cut, where for…
Building upon the results of [R. Augusiak et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 030404 (2015)] we develop a general approach to the generation of genuinely entangled multipartite states of any number of parties from genuinely entangled states of a fixed number of parties, in particular, the bipartite entangled ones. In our approach, certain isometries whose output subspaces are either symmetric or genuinely entangled in some multipartite Hilbert spaces are applied to local subsystems of bipartite entangled or multipartite genuinely entangled quantum states. To prove that entanglement of the resulting …
One of the key manifestations of quantum mechanics is the phenomenon of quantum entanglement. While the entanglement of bipartite systems is already well understood, our knowledge of entanglement in multipartite systems is still limited. This dissertation covers various aspects of the quantification of entanglement in multipartite states and the role of symmetry in such systems. Firstly, we establish a connection between the classification of multipartite entanglement and knot theory and investigate the family of states that are resistant to particle loss. Furthermore, we construct several exa…
Entanglement shared among multiple parties presents complex challenges for the characterisation of different types of entanglement. One of the most fundamental insights is the fact that some mixed states can feature entanglement across every possible cut of a multipartite system yet can be produced via a mixture of states separable with respect to different partitions. To distinguish states that genuinely cannot be produced from mixing such partition-separable states, the term genuine multipartite entanglement was coined. All these considerations originate in a paradigm where only a single cop…
Bipartite entanglement entropy of a segment with the length $l$ in $1+1$ dimensional conformal field theories (CFT) follows the formula $S=\frac{c}{3}\ln l+γ$, where $c$ is the central charge of the CFT and $γ$ is a cut-off dependent constant which diverges in the absence of an ultraviolet cutoff. According to this formula, systems with larger central charges have {\it{more}} bipartite entanglement entropy. Using quantum Fisher information (QFI), we argue that systems with bigger central charges not only have larger bipartite entanglement entropy but also have more multipartite entanglement co…
We develop a novel necessary condition of quantum correlation. It is utilized to construct $d$-level bipartite Bell-type inequality which is strongly resistant to noise and requires only analyses of $O(d)$ measurement outcomes compared to the previous result $O(d^{2})$. Remarkably, a connection between the arbitrary high-dimensional bipartite Bell-type inequality and entanglement witnesses is found. Through the necessary condition of quantum correlation, we propose that the witness operators to detect truly multipartite entanglement for a generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state wit…

Distribution and distillation of entanglement over quantum networks is a basic task for Quantum Internet applications. A fundamental question is then to determine the ultimate performance of entanglement distribution over a given network. Although this question has been extensively explored for bipartite entanglement-distribution scenarios, less is known about multipartite entanglement distribution. Here we establish the fundamental limit of distributing multipartite entanglement, in the form of GHZ states, over a quantum network. In particular, we determine the multipartite entanglement distr…

Entanglement properties of random multipartite quantum states which are invariant under global SU($d$) action are investigated. The random states live in the tensor power of an irreducible representation of SU($d$). We calculate and analyze the expectation and fluctuation of the second-order Rényi entanglement measure of the random invariant and near-invariant states in high dimension, and reveal the phenomenon of concentration of measure the random states exhibit. We show that with high probability a random SU($d$)-invariant state is close to being maximally entangled with respect to any bipa…
Quantum computing is among the most far-reaching technologies of the 21st century, tackling challenges at the cutting edge of physics. This new paradigm in computer science harnesses quantum entanglement, one striking non-intuitive feature of quantum mechanics and a cornerstone of quantum information, to provide computation with a quantum speed-up over the best-known classical algorithms and to enable encrypted data communication against eavesdropping. The bulk of this article is focused on providing a deep and abiding understanding of non-relativistic matrix mechanics by demonstrating the fun…
Quantum networks will allow to implement communication tasks beyond the reach of their classical counterparts. A pressing and necessary issue for the design of quantum network protocols is the quantification of the rates at which these tasks can be performed. Here, we propose a simple recipe that yields efficiently computable lower and upper bounds on the maximum achievable rates. For this we make use of the max-flow min-cut theorem and its generalization to multi-commodity flows to obtain linear programs. We exemplify our recipe deriving the linear programs for bipartite settings, settings wh…
We propose a new classification scheme for quantum entanglement based on topological links. This is done by identifying a non-rigid ring to a particle, attributing the act of cutting and removing a ring to the operation of tracing out the particle, and associating linked rings to entangled particles. This analogy naturally leads us to a classification of multipartite quantum entanglement based on all possible distinct links for a given number of rings. To determine all different possibilities, we develop a formalism which associates any link to a polynomial, with each polynomial thereby defini…

The hypergraph states are pure multipartite quantum states corresponding to a hypergraph. It is an equal superposition of the states belonging to the computational basis. Given any hypergraph, we can construct a hypergraph state determined by a Boolean function. In contrast, we can find a hypergraph, corresponding to a Boolean function. This investigation develops a number of combinatorial structures concerned with the hypergraph states. For instance, the elements of the computational basis generate a lattice. The chains and antichains in this lattice assist us to find the equation of the Bool…
