As the only lattice vector current that does not require renormalisation is the point-split conserved current it is convenient to have a robust, precise and computationally cheap methodology for the calculation of vector current renormalisation factors, $Z_V$. Momentum subtraction schemes, such as RI-SMOM, implemented nonperturbatively on the lattice provide such a method if it can be shown that the systematic errors, e.g. from condensates, are well controlled.
We present $Z_V$ calculations for the conserved current in both the RI-SMOM and RI$'$-MOM momentum subtraction schemes as well as local current renormalisation in the RI-SMOM scheme. By performing these calculations at various values of the momentum scale $μ$ and different lattice spacings we can investigate the presence of power suppressed nonperturbative contributions and compare the results to expectations arising from the Ward-Takahashi identity. Our results show that the RI-SMOM scheme provides a well controlled determination of $Z_V$ but the standard RI$'$-MOM scheme does not.
We then present some preliminary uses of these $Z_V$ calculations in charm physics.
We calculate the one loop renormalisation parameters for the heavy-light axial-vector and vector currents using lattice perturbation theory. We use NonRelativistic QCD (NRQCD) heavy quarks and the Highly Improved Staggered Quark (HISQ) action for the light quarks. We present results for heavy-light currents with massless HISQ quarks and briefly discuss the extension to heavy-heavy currents with massive HISQ quarks.
We match the continuum and lattice axial vector and vector currents at one loop in perturbation theory. For the heavy quarks we use the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) action and for the light quarks the Highly Improved Staggered Quark (HISQ) action. We present results for both massless and massive HISQ quarks and as part of the matching procedure we include a discussion of the one loop HISQ renormalisation parameters.
Lattice QCD provides several avenues for the high precision determination of quark masses. Using the RI-SMOM scheme applied to lattice calculations with the HISQ action, we obtain mass renormalisation factors that we use to provide strange and charm quark masses with 1% precision. The calculation involves the study of various sources of systematic uncertainty, including an analysis of possible nonperturbative (condensate) contributions. These results allow a comparison of different mass determination methods of comparable precision. In particular we (HPQCD) find good agreement between RI-SMOM …
We examine the renormalisation of flavour-diagonal vector currents in lattice QCD with the aim of understanding and quantifying the systematic errors from nonperturbative artefacts associated with the use of intermediate momentum-subtraction schemes. Our study uses the Highly Improved Staggered Quark (HISQ) action on gluon field configurations that include $n_f=2+1+1$ flavours of sea quarks, but our results have applicability to other quark actions. Renormalisation schemes that make use of the exact lattice vector Ward-Takahashi identity for the conserved current also have renormalisation fact…
We compare correlators for pseudoscalar and vector mesons made from valence strange quarks using the clover quark and highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) formalisms in full lattice QCD. We use fully nonperturbative methods to normalise vector and axial vector current operators made from HISQ quarks, clover quarks and from combining HISQ and clover fields. This allows us to test expectations for the renormalisation factors based on perturbative QCD, with implications for the error budget of lattice QCD calculations of the matrix elements of clover-staggered $b$-light weak currents, as well a…
We show that the application of twisted mass QCD (tmQCD) with four (Wilson) quark flavours to the computation of lattice weak matrix elements relevant to $ΔI=1/2$ transitions has important advantages: the renormalisation of $K \to π$ matrix elements does not require the subtraction of other dimension six operators, the divergence arising from the subtraction of lower dimensional operators is softened by one power of the lattice spacing and quenched simulations do not suffer from exceptional configurations at small pion mass. This last feature is also retained in the tmQCD computation of $K \to…
We present details of a lattice QCD calculation of the $B_s\to D_s^*$ axial form factor at zero recoil using the Highly Improved Staggered Quark (HISQ) formalism on the second generation MILC gluon ensembles that include up, down, strange and charm quarks in the sea. Using the HISQ action for all valence quarks means that the lattice axial vector current that couples to the $W$ can be renormalized fully non-perturbatively, giving a result free of the perturbative matching errors that previous lattice QCD calculations have had. We calculate correlation functions at three values of the lattice s…
We present new results for the renormalisation and subtraction constants for the four fermion Delta F=2 operators, computed non-perturbatively in the RI-MOM scheme (in the Landau gauge). From our preliminary analysis of the lattice data at beta=6.45, for the B-bar B mixing bag-parameter we obtain B_B^{RGI} = 1.46(7)(1).
We present the results of a lattice QCD calculation of the scalar and vector form factors for the unphysical $B_s\toη_s$ decay, over the full physical range of $q^2$. This is a useful testing ground both for lattice QCD and for our wider understanding of the behaviour of form factors. Calculations were performed using the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action on $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ gluon ensembles generated by the MILC Collaboration with an improved gluon action and HISQ sea quarks. We use three lattice spacings and a range of heavy quark masses from that of charm to bottom, all in the H…
We present the result of lattice QCD calculation of the scalar, vector and tensor form factors for the $B\to K\ell^+\ell^-$ decay, across the full physical range of momentum transfer. We use the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) formalism for all valence quarks on eight ensembles of gluon field configurations generated by the MILC collaboration. These include four flavours of HISQ quarks in the sea, with three ensembles having the light $u/d$ quarks at physical masses. In the first fully relativistic calculation of these form factors, we use the heavy-HISQ method. This allows us to determ…
Twisted mass lattice QCD (tmQCD), generalised to four Wilson quark flavours, can be used for the computation of some weak matrix elements related to $ΔI=1/2$ transitions. Besides eliminating unphysical zero modes, tmQCD may alleviate long-standing renormalisation problems of the four-quark operators which contribute to CP-conserving $K\toπ$ transitions. With an active charm quark, the renormalisation of the $K\toπ$ matrix elements requires at most the subtraction of a linearly divergent counterterm. Furthermore, in the (partially) quenched approximation the twist angles can be chosen so that o…
We present the vector, scalar and tensor renormalization constants (RCs) using overlap fermions with either regularization independent momentum subtraction (RI/MOM) or symmetric momentum subtraction (RI/SMOM) as the intermediate scheme on the lattice with lattice spacings $a$ from 0.04 fm to 0.12 fm. Our gauge field configurations from the MILC and RBC/UKQCD collaborations include sea quarks using either the domain wall or the HISQ action, respectively. The results show that RI/MOM and RI/SMOM can provide consistent renormalization constants to the $\overline{\textrm{MS}}$ scheme, after proper…
Lattice QCD calculations of form factors for rare Standard Model processes such as $B \to K \ell^+ \ell^-$ use tensor currents that require renormalisation. These renormalisation factors, $Z_T$, have typically been calculated within perturbation theory and the estimated uncertainties from missing higher order terms are significant. Here we study tensor current renormalisation using lattice implementations of momentum-subtraction schemes. Such schemes are potentially more accurate but have systematic errors from nonperturbative artefacts. To determine and remove these condensate contributions w…
We present a lattice-QCD calculation of the pion distribution amplitudes using large-momentum effective theory (LaMET). Our calculation is carried out using five ensembles with 2+1+1 flavors of highly improved staggered quarks (HISQ), generated by MILC collaboration, at 310 MeV and 220 MeV pion mass with 0.06, 0.09, 0.12 and 0.15 fm lattice spacings. We use clover fermion action for the valence quarks and tune the quark mass to match the lightest light and strange masses in the sea. The resulting lattice matrix elements are nonperturbatively renormalized in regularization-independent momentum-…
We compute the flavorless running coupling constant of QCD from the three gluon vertex in the (regularisation independent) momentum subtraction renormalisation scheme. This is performed on the lattice with high statistics. The expected color dependence of the Green functions is verified. There are significant $O(a^2μ^2)$ effects which can be consistently controlled. Scaling is demonstrated when the renormalisation scale is varied between 2.1 GeV and 3.85 GeV. Scaling when the lattice spacing is varied is very well satisfied. The resulting flavorless conventional two loop $Λ^{(c)}_{\bar{MS}}$ i…
We determine the charm and strange quark masses in the $\overline{\text{MS}}$ scheme, using $n_f=2+1+1$ lattice QCD calculations with highly improved staggered quarks (HISQ) and the RI-SMOM intermediate scheme to connect the bare lattice quark masses to continuum renormalisation schemes. Our study covers analysis of systematic uncertainties from this method, including nonperturbative artefacts and the impact of the non-zero physical sea quark masses. We find $m_c^{\overline{\text{MS}}}(3 \text{GeV}) = 0.9896(61)$ GeV and $m_s^{\overline{\text{MS}}}(3 \text{GeV}) = 0.08536(85)$ GeV, where the u…
We compute the running QCD coupling on the lattice by evaluating two-point and three-point off-shell gluon Green's functions in a fixed gauge and imposing non-perturbative renormalisation conditions on them. Our exploratory study is performed in the quenched approximation at beta=6.0 on 16^4 and 24^4 lattices. We show that, for momenta in the range 1.8-2.3 Gev, our coupling runs according to the two-loop asymptotic formula, allowing a precise determination of the corresponding Lambda parameter. The role of lattice artifacts and finite-volume effects is carefully analysed and these appear to be…
We report a state-of-the-art lattice calculation of the isovector quark transversity distribution of the proton at the physical pion mass. Within the framework of large-momentum effective theory (LaMET), we compute the transversity quasi-distributions using clover valence fermions on 2+1+1-flavor (up/down, strange, charm) HISQ-lattice configurations with boosted proton momenta as large as 3.0~GeV. The relevant lattice matrix elements are nonperturbatively renormalized in regularization-independent momentum-subtraction (RI/MOM) scheme and systematically matched to the physical transversity dist…
The quark-gluon vertex in Landau gauge is studied in the quenched approximation using the Sheikholeslami-Wohlert (SW) fermion action with mean-field improvement coefficients in the action and for the quark fields. We see that the form factor that includes the running coupling is substantially enhanced in the infrared, over and above the enhancement arising from the infrared suppression of the quark propagator alone. We define two different momentum subtraction renormalisation schemes -- \MOMT (asymmetric) and \MOMB\ (symmetric) -- and determine the running coupling in both schemes. We find Lam…
We present the first lattice calculation of the B-meson binding energy $\labar$ and of the kinetic energy $-λ_1/2 m_Q$ of the heavy-quark inside the pseudoscalar B-meson. This calculation has required the non-perturbative subtraction of the power divergences present in matrix elements of the Lagrangian operator $\bar h D_4 h$ and of the kinetic energy operator $\bar h \vec D^2 h$. The non-perturbative renormalisation of the relevant operators has been implemented by imposing suitable renormalisation conditions on quark matrix elements, in the Landau gauge. Our numerical results have been obtai…

We use clover fermion action for the valence quarks and tune the quark mass to match the lightest light and strange masses in the sea.
