Vectorial Boolean functions are crucial building-blocks in symmetric ciphers. Different known attacks on block ciphers have resulted in diverse cryptographic criteria for vectorial Boolean functions, such as differential uniformity and nonlinearity. Very recently, Bar-On et al. introduced at Eurocrypt'19 a new tool, called the differential-linear connectivity table (DLCT), which allows for taking into account the dependency between the two subciphers $E_0$ and $E_1$ involved in differential-linear attacks. This new notion leads to significant improvements of differential-linear attacks on several ciphers. This paper presents a theoretical characterization of the DLCT of vectorial Boolean functions and also investigates this new criterion for some families of functions with specific forms.
More precisely, we firstly reveal the connection between the DLCT and the autocorrelation of vectorial Boolean functions, we characterize properties of the DLCT by means of the Walsh transform of the function and of its differential distribution table, and we present generic bounds on the highest magnitude occurring in the DLCT of vectorial Boolean functions, which coincides (up to a factor~\(2\)) with the well-established notion of absolute indicator. Next, we investigate the invariance property of the DLCT of vectorial Boolean functions under the affine, extended-affine, and Carlet-Charpin-Zinoviev (CCZ) equivalence and exhaust the DLCT spectra of optimal $4$-bit S-boxes under affine equivalence. Furthermore, we study the DLCT of APN, plateaued and AB functions and establish its connection with other cryptographic criteria. Finally, we investigate the DLCT and the absolute indicator of some specific polynomials with optimal or low differential uniformity, including monomials, cubic functions, quadratic functions and inverses of quadratic permutations.
Recently, much progress has been made to construct minimal linear codes due to their preference in secret sharing schemes and secure two-party computation. In this paper, we put forward a new method to construct minimal linear codes by using vectorial Boolean functions. Firstly, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a generic class of linear codes from vectorial Boolean functions to be minimal. Based on that, we derive some new three-weight minimal linear codes and determine their weight distributions. Secondly, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for another generic clas…

In this paper we study the relationship between vectorial (Boolean) functions and cyclic codes in the context of algebraic attacks. We first derive a direct link between the annihilators of a vectorial function (in univariate form) and certain $2^{n}$-ary cyclic codes (which we prove that they are LCD codes) extending results due to Rønjom and Helleseth. The knowledge of the minimum distance of those codes gives rise to a lower bound on the algebraic immunity of the associated vectorial function. Furthermore, we solve an open question raised by Mesnager and Cohen. We also present some properti…
Binary linear codes with good parameters have important applications in secret sharing schemes, authentication codes, association schemes, and consumer electronics and communications. In this paper, we construct several classes of binary linear codes from vectorial Boolean functions and determine their parameters, by further studying a generic construction developed by Ding \emph{et al.} recently. First, by employing perfect nonlinear functions and almost bent functions, we obtain several classes of six-weight linear codes which contains the all-one codeword. Second, we investigate a subcode o…
Propagation criterion of degree $l$ and order $k$ ($PC(l)$ of order $k$) and resiliency of vectorial Boolean functions are important for cryptographic purpose (see [1, 2, 3,6, 7,8,10,11,16]. Kurosawa, Stoh [8] and Carlet [1] gave a construction of Boolean functions satisfying $PC(l)$ of order $k$ from binary linear or nonlinear codes in. In this paper, algebraic-geometric codes over $GF(2^m)$ are used to modify Carlet and Kurosawa-Satoh's construction for giving vectorial resilient Boolean functions satisfying $PC(l)$ of order $k$. The new construction is compared with previously known results…
There are two construction methods of designs from $(n,m)$-bent functions, known as translation and addition designs. In this paper we analyze, which equivalence relation for Boolean bent functions, i.e. $(n,1)$-bent functions, and vectorial bent functions, i.e. $(n,m)$-bent functions with $2\le m\le n/2$, is coarser: extended-affine equivalence or isomorphism of associated translation and addition designs. First, we observe that similar to the Boolean bent functions, extended-affine equivalence of vectorial $(n,m)$-bent functions and isomorphism of addition designs are the same concepts for a…
The notion of o-polynomial comes from finite projective geometry. In 2011 and later, it has been shown that those objects play an important role in symmetric cryptography and coding theory to design bent Boolean functions, bent vectorial Boolean functions, semi-bent functions and to construct good linear codes. In this note, we characterize o-polynomials by the Walsh transform of the associated vectorial functions.
In \cite{Bapic, Tang, Zheng} a new method for the secondary construction of vectorial/Boolean bent functions via the so-called $(P_U)$ property was introduced. In 2018, Qi et al. generalized the methods in \cite{Tang} for the construction of $p$-ary weakly regular bent functions. The objective of this paper is to further generalize these constructions, following the ideas in \cite{Bapic, Zheng}, for secondary constructions of vectorial $p$-ary weakly regular bent and plateaued functions. We also present some infinite families of such functions via the $p$-ary Maiorana-McFarland class. Addition…
Boolean functions with high algebraic immunity are important cryptographic primitives in some stream ciphers. In this paper, two methodologies for constructing binary minimal codes from sets, Boolean functions and vectorial Boolean functions with high algebraic immunity are proposed. More precisely, a general construction of new minimal codes using minimal codes contained in Reed-Muller codes and sets without nonzero low degree annihilators is presented. The other construction allows us to yield minimal codes from certain subcodes of Reed-Muller codes and vectorial Boolean functions with high …
In this paper we generalize the partial spread class and completely describe it for generalized Boolean functions from $\F_2^n$ to $\mathbb{Z}_{2^t}$. Explicitly, we describe gbent functions from $\F_2^n$ to $\mathbb{Z}_{2^t}$, which can be seen as a gbent version of Dillon's $PS_{ap}$ class. For the first time, we also introduce the concept of a vectorial gbent function from $\F_2^n$ to $\Z_q^m$, and determine the maximal value which $m$ can attain for the case $q=2^t$. Finally we point to a relation between vectorial gbent functions and relative difference sets.
Let $n$ be an even positive integer, and $m<n$ be one of its positive divisors. In this paper, inspired by a nice work of Tang et al. on constructing large classes of bent functions from known bent functions [27, IEEE TIT, 63(10): 6149-6157, 2017], we consider the construction of vectorial bent and vectorial plateaued $(n,m)$-functions of the form $H(x)=G(x)+g(x)$, where $G(x)$ is a vectorial bent $(n,m)$-function, and $g(x)$ is a Boolean function over $\mathbb{F}_{2^{n}}$. We find an efficient generic method to construct vectorial bent and vectorial plateaued functions of this form by establi…
The study of non-linearity (linearity) of Boolean function was initiated by Rothaus in 1976. The classical non-linearity of a Boolean function is the minimum Hamming distance of its truth table to that of affine functions. In this note we introduce new "multidimensional" non-linearity parameters $(N_f,H_f)$ for conventional and vectorial Boolean functions $f$ with $m$ coordinates in $n$ variables. The classical non-linearity may be treated as a 1-dimensional parameter in the new definition. $r$-dimensional parameters for $r\geq 2$ are relevant to possible multidimensional extensions of the Fas…
In this paper, we show that there is no vectorial Boolean function of degree 4e, with e satisfaying certain conditions, which is APN over infinitely many extensions of its field of definition. It is a new step in the proof of the conjecture of Aubry, McGuire and Rodier
We associate to each Boolean function a polynomial whose evaluations represents the distances from all possible Boolean affine functions. Both determining the coefficients of this polynomial from the truth table of the Boolean function and computing its evaluation vector requires a worst-case complexity of $O(n2^n)$ integer operations. This way, with a different approach, we reach the same complexity of established algorithms, such as those based on the fast Walsh transform.
In this paper, we investigate permutation rotation-symmetric (shift-invariant) vectorial Boolean functions on $n$ bits that are liftings from Boolean functions on $k$ bits, for $k\leq n$. These functions generalize the well-known map used in the current Keccak hash function, which is generated via the Boolean function on $3$ variables, $x_1+(x_2+1)x_3$. We provide some general constructions, and also study the affine equivalence between rotation-symmetric S-boxes and describe the corresponding relationship between the Boolean function they are associated with.
Table (database) / Relational database Classification for big/smart/fast data machine learning is one of the most important tasks of predictive analytics and extracting valuable information from data. It is core applied technique for what now understood under data science and/or artificial intelligence. Widely used Decision Tree (Random Forest) and rare used rule based PRISM , VFST, etc classifiers are empirical substitutions of theoretically correct to use Boolean functions minimization. Developing Minimization of Boolean functions algorithms is started long time ago by Edward Veitch's 1952. …
The r-th order nonlinearity of a Boolean function is the minimum number of elements that have to be changed in its truth table to arrive at a Boolean function of degree at most r. It is shown that the (suitably normalised) r-th order nonlinearity of a random Boolean function converges strongly for all r\ge 1. This extends results by Rodier for r=1 and by Dib for r=2. The methods in the present paper are mostly of elementary combinatorial nature and also lead to simpler proofs in the cases that r=1 or 2.
In this work, we employ the concept of {\em composite representation} of Boolean functions, which represents an arbitrary Boolean function as a composition of one Boolean function and one vectorial function, for the purpose of specifying new secondary constructions of bent/plateaued functions. This representation gives a better understanding of the existing secondary constructions and it also allows us to provide a general construction framework of these objects. This framework essentially gives rise to an {\em infinite number} of possibilities to specify such secondary construction methods (w…
In this article, we introduce new notions $cc$-differential uniformity, $cc$-differential spectrum, PccN functions and APccN functions, and investigate their properties. We also introduce $c$-CCZ equivalence, $c$-EA equivalence, and $c1$-equivalence. We show that $c$-differential uniformity is invariant under $c1$-equivalence, and $cc$-differential uniformity and $cc$-differential spectrum are preserved under $c$-CCZ equivalence. We characterize $cc$-differential uniformity of vectorial Boolean functions in terms of the Walsh transformation. We investigate $cc$-differential uniformity of power…
Recently, the construction of Narain CFT from a certain class of quantum error correcting codes has been discovered. In particular, the spectral gap of Narain CFT corresponds to the binary distance of the code, not the genuine Hamming distance. In this paper, we show that the binary distance is identical to the so-called EPC distance of the boolean function uniquely associated with the quantum code. Therefore, seeking Narain CFT with high spectral gap is equivalent to getting a boolean function with high EPC distance. Furthermore, this problem can be addressed by finding lower Peak-to-Average …
