In light of recent 80-137 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ results at the LHC Run 2 establishing a lower gluino mass limit of 2.25 TeV, we revisit the supersymmetric GUT model Flipped $SU$(5) with extra vector-like particles, known as $\cal{F}$-$SU$(5), with vanishing No-Scale Supergravity boundary conditions at the string scale of about $2 \times 10^{17}$ GeV, including the supersymmetry breaking $B_μ$ parameter which is strictly enforced as $B_μ = 0$. Given the proportional dependence of all model scales on a single parameter $M_{1/2}$, No-Scale $\cal{F}$-$SU$(5) was shown to possess no electroweak fine-tuning and thus persists as a $natural$ one-parameter model. In this fresh analysis here, we demand consistency with the measured 125 GeV light Higgs boson mass, though we forgo an upper limit on the lightest neutralino relic density. The resulting phenomenology delivers a gluino mass of $M(\widetilde{g}) \lesssim 7.5$ TeV and a lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) of $M(\widetildeχ_1^0) \lesssim 1.6$ TeV. In order to dilute the relic density down to the WMAP and Planck measurements, we rely upon a single cosmological master coupling $λ_6$.
We consider the possibility that the lightest supersymmetric particle is a heavy gluino. After discussing models in which this is the case, we demonstrate that the gluino-LSP could evade cosmological and other constraints by virtue of having a very small relic density. We then consider how neutral and charged hadrons containing a gluino will behave in a detector, demonstrating that there is generally substantial apparent missing momentum associated with a produced gluino-LSP. We next investigate limits on a (heavy) gluino-LSP deriving from LEP, LEP2 and RunI Tevatron experimental searches for …
In this paper we consider a heavy gluino to be the lightest supersymmetric particle [LSP]. We investigate the limits on the mass of a heavy gluino LSP, using the searches for excess events in the jets plus missing momentum channel in Run I. The neutral and charged R-hadrons, containing a heavy gluino LSP, have distinct signatures at the Fermilab Tevatron. The range of excluded gluino masses depends on whether the R-hadron is charged or neutral and the amount of energy deposited in the hadronic calorimeter. The latter depends on the energy loss per collision in the calorimeter and the number of…
The static potentials for systems of a heavy quark and anti-quark, two gluinos and a quark and a gluino are computed for all possible colour configurations of a $SU(N_c)$ gauge group.
It is widely thought that increasing bounds on the gluino mass, which feeds down to the stop mass through renormalization group running, are making a light stop increasingly unlikely. Here we present a counter-example. We examine the case of the Minimal Composite Supersymmetric Standard Model which has a light composite stop. The large anomalous dimension of the stop from strong dynamics pushes the stop mass toward a quasi-fixed point in the infrared, which is smaller than standard estimates by a factor of a large logarithm. The gluino can be about three times heavier than the stop, which is c…
State-of-the-art predictions for the mass of the lightest MSSM Higgs boson usually involve the resummation of higher-order logarithmic contributions obtained within an effective-field-theory (EFT) approach, often combined with a fixed-order calculation into a hybrid result. For the phenomenologically interesting case of a significant hierarchy between the gluino mass and the masses of the scalar top quarks the predictions suffer from large theoretical uncertainties related to non-decoupling power-enhanced gluino contributions in the EFT results employing the $\overline{\text{DR}}$ renormalisat…
A wide variety of unified models predict asymptotic relations at $M_{GUT}$ between the b quark and $τ$ lepton Yukawa couplings. Within the framework of supersymmetric SU(4) $\times$ SU(2)$_L \times$ SU(2)$_R$, we explore regions of the parameter space that are compatible with b-$τ$ quasi-Yukawa unification and the higgsinos being the lightest supersymmetric particles ($\lesssim$ 1 TeV). Among the colored sparticles, the stop weighs more than 1.5 TeV or so, whereas the squarks of the first two families are signifcantly heavier, approaching 10 TeV in some cases. The gluino mass is estimated to l…
800 GeV gluino pair production is simulated using ISASUSY 1.1 MC-program. The cascade decay of the gluino into two lightest neutralinos, $\widetilde{g} \rightarrow \widetildeχ_2^0 X$, $\widetildeχ_2^0 \rightarrow μ^+ μ^- \widetildeχ_1^0$, is studied for a convenient set of SUSY parameters: $μ$ = 200 GeV, tan$β$ = 2, average squark masses of 1600 GeV, charged Higgs mass of 500 GeV, and top quark mass of 140 GeV. With such parameters the mass difference between $\widetildeχ_2^0$ and $\widetildeχ_1^0$ is less than the mass of Z. As a background, $t\bar{t}$, Z + jets, WW, WZ and ZZ events were gen…
We have explored the possibilities of scenarios with heavy gluinos and light stops in supersymmetric (SUSY) standard models with extra vector-like multiplets. If we assume the hierarchical structure for soft masses of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) scalar fields and extra scalars, the light stop and the observed Higgs boson can be realized. While the stau is the lightest SUSY particle (LSP) in broad parameter space, we have found that the neutralino LSP is realized in the case that the non-zero soft parameters for the MSSM Higgs doublets or the non-universal gaugino masses ar…
In this work we explore the 7 TeV LHC implication on light top squark (stop) and investigate discovery limits at both 8 and 14 TeV LHC using same-sign dilepton signature. We consider a simplified spectrum with gluino pair production followed by heavy gluino decay into on-shell stop and top quark in pair. The light stop is then assumed to uniquely decay into c\tildeχ_1^0, bW^+\tildeχ_1^0 or t\tildeχ_1^0. The same-sign dilepton search at 7 TeV LHC places a lower bound of about 800 GeV on the gluino mass in this scenario. We find that the 8 TeV LHC with 30 fb^{-1} luminosity can reach 960 (900) G…
Restrictive upper bounds on the heavy bottom squark mass when the gluino and one bottom squark are both light are based on the predicted reduction of $R_b$ (the fraction of $Z$ hadronic decays to $b \bar b$ pairs) in such a scenario. These bounds are found to be relaxed by the process $Z \to b\bar{\tilde b}{\tilde g}/{\bar b}{\tilde b}{\tilde g}$, which may partially compensate for the reduction of $R_b$. The relaxation of bounds on the top squark and the scale-dependence of the strong coupling constant are also discussed.
Scalar MSSM Higgs boson production via gluon fusion gg -> h,H is mediated by heavy quark and squark loops. The higher order QCD corrections to these processes turn out to be large. The full supersymmetric QCD corrections have been calculated recently. In the limit of large SUSY masses a conceptual problem appears, i.e. the proper treatment of the large gluino mass limit. In this work we will describe the consistent decoupling of heavy gluino effects and derive the effective Lagrangian for decoupled gluinos.
In recent years it has been learned that scalar superpartner masses and trilinear couplings should both generically be larger than about 20 TeV at the short distance string scale if our world is described by a compactified string or M-theory with supersymmetry breaking and stabilized moduli. Here we study implications of this, somewhat generally and also in detail for a particular realization (compactification of M-theory on a G_2 manifold) where there is significant knowledge of the superpotential and gauge kinetic function, and a light gluino. In a certain sense this yields an ultraviolet co…
The ATLAS Collaboration announced a 3$σ$ excess in the leptonic-$Z+jets+\met$ channel. We show that such an excess can be interpreted in the extension of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) with a heavy Dirac gluino and light squarks. The abundant $Z$ bosons can be produced by light squark pair productions with the subsequent decays $\tilde{q} \to q \tildeχ_2^0 \to q Z \tildeχ_1^0$. We investigate the relevant parameter space by considering the constraints from both the ATLAS and CMS direct SUSY searches. Our model can provide sufficient $Z$-signal events in large paramet…
We reinterpret the generic CDF charged massive particle limit to obtain a limit on the mass of a stable or long-lived gluino. Various sources of uncertainty are examined. The $R$-hadron spectrum and scattering cross sections are modeled based on known low-energy hadron physics and the resultant uncertainties are quantified and found to be small compared to uncertainties from the scale dependence of the NLO pQCD production cross sections. The largest uncertainty in the limit comes from the unknown squark mass: when the squark -- gluino mass splitting is small, we obtain a gluino mass limit of 4…
In this paper we present a solution to the $μ$ problem in an SO(10) supersymmetric grand unified model with gauge mediated and D-term supersymmetry breaking. A Peccei-Quinn symmetry is broken at the messenger scale $M\sim 10^{12}$ GeV and enables the generation of the $μ$ term. The boundary conditions defined at $M$ lead to a phenomenologically acceptable version of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with novel particle phenomenology. Either the gluino or the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). If the gravitino is the LSP, then the gluino is the next-to-LSP (NLSP) w…
We present a solution to the $μ$ problem in an SO(10) supersymmetric grand unified (SUSY GUT) model with gauge mediated (GMSB) and D-term supersymmetry breaking. A Peccei-Quinn ({\bf PQ}) symmetry is broken at the messenger scale and enables the generation of the $μ$ term. The invisible axion (Goldstone boson of {\bf PQ} symmetry breaking) is a cold dark matter candidate. At low energy, our model leads to a phenomenologically acceptable version of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with novel particle phenomenology. Either the gluino or the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetri…
A supersymmetric standard model with heavier scalar supersymmetric particles has many attractive features. If the scalar mass scale is O(10 - 10^4) TeV, the standard model like Higgs boson with mass around 125 GeV, which is strongly favored by the LHC experiment, can be realized. However, in this scenario the scalar particles are too heavy to be produced at the LHC. In addition, if the scalar mass is much less than O(10^4) TeV, the lifetime of the gluino is too short to be measured. Therefore, it is hard to probe the scalar particles at a collider. However, a detailed study of the gluino decay…
In this work we study the collider phenomenology of a compressed supersymmetric model with gluino and the lightest neutralino. All other sparticles are assumed to be heavy. We consider gluino pair production at the 14 TeV LHC and present the mass reach of gluino as a function of mass splitting between gluino and the the lightest neutralino. We find that the gluino mass below 1 TeV can be excluded at 95% CL with integrated luminosity of 100 fb$^{-1}$ for extreme degenerate case where mass separation between gluino and the lightest neutralino is about 20 GeV. On the other hand, the lower bound o…
We study the potential of high-energy photon colliders for the production of gluino pairs within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In this model, the process gamma gamma -> gluino gluino is mediated by quark/squark box diagrams with enhancements for up-type quarks/squarks from their larger charges and for third generation squarks from their large mass splittings, generated by the mixing of left- and right-handed states. Far above threshold and in scenarios with very heavy squarks, resolved photons can contribute significantly at tree level. Taking into account the laser photon …
In the light gluino scenario, squarks in the 100 GeV mass region can be copiously produced at the Tevatron without a second heavy particle. Their subsequent dijet decay into quark plus gluino leads to non-scaling structure in the inclusive jet X_T distribution. The expected behavior is similar to recent observations.
There is an intriguing discrepancy between α_s(M_Z) values measured directly at the CERN $Z_0$-factory and low-energy (at few GeV) measurements transformed to $Q=M_{Z_0}$ by a massless QCD α_s(Q) evolution relation. There exists an attempt to reconcile this discrepancy by introducing a light gluino $\gl$ in the MSSM. We study in detail the influence of heavy thresholds on α_s(Q) evolution. First, we consruct the "exact" explicit solution to the mass-dependent two-loop RG equation for the running α_s(Q). This solution describes heavy thresholds smoothly. Second, we use this solution to recalcul…
Dirac gauginos are a well-motivated extension of the MSSM, leading to interesting phenomenological consequences. At the LHC, gluino-pair production is enhanced while squark production is suppressed as compared to the MSSM, and the decay signatures are altered by a more complex chargino and neutralino spectrum. We investigate how this impacts current gluino and squark mass limits from Run~2 of the LHC. Concretely, we compare different assumptions about the electroweak-ino spectrum through four benchmark models paying particular attention to the effect of the trilinear $λ_S$ coupling, which indu…
In this note, we advocate a new method for identifying gluino pair production events at the LHC. The method is motivated by and works for theories with heavy squarks and Wino-like LSPs (with nearly degenerate LSP and chargino). Such theories are well motivated and their gluinos typically have a O(50%) branching ratio to charged Winos. Observing the track of a long lived charged Wino produced from gluino decay could give a clear identification of a gluino event. Charged Wino NLSPs produced in colliders can be long-lived enough to leave a reconstructable high pT charged track before decaying int…
In this paper we study the experimental consequences of a theory which naturally has a heavy, stable (or almost stable) gluino. We define the boundary conditions at a messenger scale $M \sim 10^{14}$ GeV which lead to this alternative phenomenologically acceptable version of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In this theory, either the gluino or the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle [LSP]. If the gravitino is the LSP, then the gluino is the next-to-LSP with a lifetime on the order of 100 years. In either case, the gluino is (for all practical purposes) a stable particle…
In this article we investigate the influence of nuclear effects in the production of gluinos in nuclear collisions at the LHC, and estimate the transverse momentum dependence of the nuclear ratios $R_{pA} = {\frac{dσ(pA)}{dy d^2 p_T}} / A {\frac{dσ(pp)}{dy d^2 p_T}}$ and $R_{AA} = {\frac{dσ(AA)}{dy d^2 p_T}} / A^2 {\frac{dσ(pp)}{dy d^2 p_T}}$. We demonstrate that depending on the magnitude of the nuclear effects, the production of gluinos could be enhanced, compared to proton-proton collisions. The study of these observables can be useful to determine the magnitude of the shadowing and antisha…
Processes of the form $pp\to anything \to X_i X_j \to x\bar{x} + y\bar{y} (+ \slashchar{E})$ are studied via a technique that may be viewed as an adaptation of time-honoured Dalitz plot analyses. $X_i$ and $X_j$ are new heavy states (with $i,j=1...n$), which may be identical or distinct; and $x\bar{x}$ and $y\bar{y}$ are necessarily distinct Standard Model (SM) fermion pairs whose invariant masses can be measured. A Dalitz-like plot of said invariant masses, $M(x\bar{x})$ {\it vs.$$} $M(y\bar{y})$, exhibits a topology connected to the masses and specific decay chains of $X_i$ and $X_j$. Aside …
In the light gluino variant of the minimal supersymmetric model gluino pairs can be readily produced in collider experiments even if the squarks are arbitrarily heavy. This enhances the jet transverse energy distributions. In addition the slower running of the strong coupling constant in the presence of light gluinos leads to a further enhancement at higher transverse energies relative to the standard $QCD$ expectations. Finally, the enhanced squark gluino production would lead to a Jacobian peak in the $E_T$ distribution at about $M_{\tilde Q}/2$. These effects are of about the right magnitud…
We perform a comparison study of the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and Constrained General Gauge Mediation with and without a heavy Dirac gluino. These extremely simple models have very few free parameters and exhibit the characteristic features of supersoftness and supersafeness. We determine the characteristic low energy spectra, the production cross sections of key processes at the Large Hadron Collider and the degree of fine tuning for a representative range of parameters for each model.
In this paper we study the Yukawa Higgs-quark-quark interactions that are generated from radiative corrections of squarks and gluinos, in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We compute the corrections to the effective action for Higgs and quark fields that are produced by explicit integration, in the path integral formalism, of all the squarks and gluinos, at the one-loop level and order $α_s$. In addition, we consider the limit of nearly degenerate heavy squarks and gluinos, with masses much larger than the electroweak scale, and derive the effective Lagrangian containing all the relev…
We study the compatibility of a light bottom squark M_{\tilde b}< O(10 GeV) in the unconstrained MSSM. We consider the one-loop radiative corrections which are large for a heavy gluino (> O(150 GeV)). We then consider the renormalization group flow up to the Grand Unified scale. For most regions of the parameter space with a light sbottom we find colour and charge breaking minima. Only a small window in gluino mass and tan(beta) is consistent with all bounds. This is alleviated by a light gluino, which is however only marginally experimentally allowed.
If a light gluino, with a mass of the order of GeV, exists in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, then it can contribute to the production rate of the top quark pairs at hadron colliders via the process gluino + gluino --> t + tbar. Because the top quark is heavy, the masses of the superpartners of the left-handed and right-handed top quarks can be very different such that a parity-violating observable can be induced at the tree level. We discuss the phenomenology of this parity violating asymmetry at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.
We extend the recently proposed gluino axion model to include neutrino masses. We discuss how the canonical seesaw model and the Higgs triplet model may be realized in this framework. In the former case, the heavy singlet neutrinos are contained in superfields which do not have any vacuum expectation value, whereas the gluino axion is contained in one which does. We also construct a specific renormalizable model which realizes the mass scale relationship $M_{SUSY} \sim f_a^2/M_U$, where $f_a$ is the axion decay constant and $M_U$ is a large effective mass parameter.
The search for supersymmetry at Run 1 of LHC has resulted in gluino mass limits m(gluino)>~ 1.3 TeV for the case where m(gluino)<<m(squark) and in models with gaugino mass unification. The increased energy and ultimately luminosity of LHC13 will explore the range m(gluino)~ 1.3-2 TeV. We examine how the discovery of SUSY via gluino pair production would unfold via a comparative analysis of three LSP archetype scenarios: 1. mSUGRA/CMSSM model with a bino-like LSP, 2. charged SUSY breaking (CSB) with a wino-like LSP and 3. SUSY with radiatively-driven naturalness (RNS) and a higgsino-like LSP. I…
We propose a mechanism which could explain a slight excess of top signal rate recently reported by CDF in the framework of the supersymmetric standard model. If the scalar partner of the top (stop) is sufficiently light, the gluino with an appropriate mass could decay into the stop plus the top with almost 100\% branching ratio and experimental signatures of the gluino pair production could be indistinguishable from those of the top production in the present integrated luminosity Tevatron running. In this case the standard top signal, $W$ $+$ multi-jets events, would be effectively enhanced by…
The minimal supersymmetric model with light sbottom ($\sim m_b$) and light gluino (12 $\sim$ 16 GeV) can explain the excess of bottom quark production cross section at hadron colliders and has drawn much attention. We calculate one-loop contribution to Z-pole observable $R_b$ in this scenario when large CP violating phases are allowed in the gluino mass and/or sbottom sector. We show that these large CP violating phases can suppress the new contribution $δR_b$ safely within the experimental bounds even for heavier sbottom too heavy ($\wt{b}_2 \gtrsim$ 200 GeV) to be produced at LEP2 in associa…
We examine the top squark (stop) and gluino reach of the proposed 33 TeV energy upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC33) in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with light higgsinos and relatively heavy electroweak gauginos. In our analysis, we assume that stops decay to higgsinos via ${\tilde t}_1 \to t {\tilde{Z}}_1$, $\tilde{t}_1 \to t\tilde{Z}_2$ and $\tilde{t}$$_1 \to b\tilde{W}_1$ with branching fractions in the ratio 1:1:2 (expected if the decay occurs dominantly via the superpotential Yukawa coupling) while gluinos decay via $\tilde{g}\to t\tilde{t}_1$ or via three-body…
We propose the Supersymmetric Standard Models (SSMs) with a pseudo-Dirac gluino from hybrid $F-$ and $D-$term supersymmetry (SUSY) breakings. Similar to the SSMs before the LHC, all the supersymmetric particles in the Minimal SSM (MSSM) obtain the SUSY breaking soft terms from the traditional gravity mediation and have masses within about 1 TeV except gluino. To evade the LHC SUSY search constraints, the gluino also has a heavy Dirac mass above 3 TeV from $D-$term SUSY breaking. Interestingly, such a heavy Dirac gluino mass will not induce the electroweak fine-tuning problem. We realize such S…
Recently the ATLAS experiment announced a 3 $σ$ excess at the Z-peak consisting of 29 pairs of leptons together with two or more jets, $E_T^{\rm miss}> 225$ GeV and $H_T \geq 600$ GeV, to be compared with $10.6 \pm 3.2$ expected lepton pairs in the Standard Model. No excess outside the Z-peak was observed. By trying to explain this signal with SUSY we find that only relatively light gluinos, $m_{\tilde g} \lesssim 1.2$ TeV, together with a heavy neutralino NLSP of $m_{\tilde χ} \gtrsim 400$ GeV decaying predominantly to Z-boson plus a light gravitino, such that nearly every gluino produces at …
We calculate the production cross-sections for the vector and pseudoscalar bound states of two gluinos. It is shown that existing and future colliders imply a realistic chance of observing gluinonium as a narrow peak in the two-jet invariant mass spectrum. With an integrated luminosity of 0.2 fb$^{-1}$ at the Tevatron, and the high efficiency for tagging heavy quark jets at CDF, one should be able to detect vector gluinonium for gluino masses up to about 170 GeV; or up to about 260 GeV for an upgraded Tevatron with a centre of mass energy of 2 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 1 fb$^{-1}$. T…
The branching fraction for the decays of gluinos to third generation quarks is expected to be enhanced in classes of supersymmetric models where either third generation squarks are lighter than other squarks, or in mixed-higgsino dark matter models constructed to be in concordance with the measured density of cold dark matter. In such scenarios, gluino production events at the CERN Large Hadron Collider should be rich in top and bottom quark jets. Requiring b-jets in addition to missing transverse energy should, therefore, enhance the supersymmetry signal relative to Standard Model backgrounds…
In the MSSM scalar h,H production is mediated by heavy quark and squark loops. The higher order QCD corrections have been obtained some time ago and turned out to be large. The full SUSY QCD corrections have been obained recently including the full mass dependence of the loop particles. We describe our calculation and present first numerical results. We also address the question of the proper treatment of the large gluino mass limit, i.e. the consistent decoupling of heavy gluino effects, and present the effective Lagrangian for decoupled gluinos.
Heavy flavour tagging provides a broad range of possibilities in testing QCD features at LEP. We present here a study of 4jets events at LEP I where the so-called light gluinos could be directly produced. We show that microvertex techniques offer a unique chance to exploit simple kinematical distributions in order to optimise the signal coming from gluino production with respect to the background of ordinary QCD events. Our results indicate that experimental analyses along the lines suggested here can exclude or reveal the presence of a gluino for masses up to 10 GeV and lifetimes below 10$^{-…
We analyze the implications of the light gluino scenario for the unification of gauge and Yukawa couplings within the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Within this scheme all fermionic supersymmetric particles are naturally light, while the scalar partners of quarks and leptons, together with the heavy Higgs doublet may be heavy. This implies both a bound on $\tanβ< 2.3$, in order to fulfill the experimental constraints on the chargino masses, and a strong correlation between $\sin^2θ_W(M_Z)$ and $α_3(M_Z)$, due to the suppression of the supersymmetric threshold corrections to the low ene…
In this article, we study the interactions of stable, hadronizing new states, arising in certain extensions of the Standard Model. A simple model, originally intended for stable gluino hadrons, is developed to describe the nuclear interactions of hadrons containing any new colour triplet or octet stable parton. Hadron mass spectra, nuclear scattering cross sections and interaction processes are discussed. Furthermore, an implementation of the interactions of heavy hadrons in GEANT 3 is presented, signatures are studied, and a few remarks about possible detection with the ATLAS experiment are g…
We propose a new variable, the charm fraction, for collider searches for new physics. We analyze this variable in the context of searches for simplified supersymmetry models with squarks, the gluino, and the bino, assuming that only the lightest mass-degenerate squarks can be produced at the high-luminosity LHC. The charm fraction complements event counting and kinematic information, increasing the sensitivity of the searches for models with heavy gluinos, for which squark production is flavor-blind. If squarks are discovered at the LHC, this variable can help discriminate between different un…
In this article we study the MSSM with stops and Higgs scalars much lighter than gluinos and squarks of the first two generations. In this setup, one should use an effective field theory with partial supersymmetry in which the gluino and heavy squarks are integrated out in order to connect SUSY parameters (given at a high scale) to observables in the stop sector. In the construction of this effective theory, valid below the gluino mass scale, we take into account $O(α_3)$ and $O(Y_{t,b}^2)$ effects and calculate the matching as well as the renormalization group evolution. As a result, the runn…
Squarks and gluinos have been searched for at hadron colliders in events with multiple jets and missing transverse energy. No excess has been observed to date, and from a comparison of experimental cross section limits and theoretical cross section predictions one can deduce lower bounds on the squark and gluino masses. We present an improved analysis of squark and gluino mass bounds which is based on state-of-the-art cross section calculations including the summation of large threshold corrections. For illustration, we consider experimental data obtained by the CDF collaboration at the Fermil…
We re-assess constraints from flavour-changing neutral currents in the kaon system on supersymmetric scenarios with a light gluino, two heavy generations of squarks and a lighter third generation. We compute for the first time limits in scenarios with three heavy squark families, taking into account QCD corrections at the next-to-leading order. We compare our limits with those in the case of two heavy families. We use the mass insertion approximation and consider contributions from gluino exchange to constrain the mixing between the first and second squark generation. While it is not possible …
In Profumo di SUSY, we presented evidence that CMS&ATLAS may have already registered a handful of deftly camouflaged supersymmetry events at the LHC in the multijet channels. Here, we explore the prospect for corroboration of this suggestion from 5 additional CMS&ATLAS search strategies targeting the production of light stops & gluinos at lower jet counts, which variously depend on heavy flavor tagging and the inclusion or exclusion of associated leptons. The current operating phase of the 7TeV LHC is highly conducive to the production of gluinos & light stops, given the supersymmetric particl…
We describe a region of the No-Scale F-SU(5) supersymmetric model with TeV-scale vector-like matter multiplets that is potentially opaque to LHC observations based upon top quark reconstruction. Possessing a 100% on-shell branching fraction for gluino to light stop decays, the gluino-light stop mass splitting in F-SU(5) lies very close to the top quark rest mass in the region 810 (650) <~ M(gluino) (M(light stop)) <~ 1170 (975) GeV. For unboosted gluino pair-production, this could render two soft top quarks in the dominant 4-top signature, greatly reducing the likelihood for discrimination fro…
We describe an extension of the SOFTSUSY spectrum calculator to include two-loop supersymmetric QCD (SUSYQCD) corrections of order $\mathcal{O}(α_s^2)$ to gluino and squark pole masses, either in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) or the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM). This document provides an overview of the program and acts as a manual for the new version of SOFTSUSY, which includes the increase in accuracy in squark and gluino pole mass predictions.
Results are presented for a variety of SUSY Simplified Models at the 14 TeV LHC as well as a 33 and 100 TeV proton collider. Our focus is on models whose signals are driven by colored production. We present projections of the upper limit and discovery reach in the gluino-neutralino (for both light and heavy flavor decays), squark-neutralino, and gluino-squark Simplified Model planes. Depending on the model a jets + MET, mono-jet, or same-sign di-lepton search is applied. The impact of pileup is explored. This study utilizes the Snowmass backgrounds and combined detector. Assuming 3000 fb^{-1} …
Radiatively-driven natural SUSY (RNS) models enjoy electroweak naturalness at the $10\%$ level while respecting LHC sparticle and Higgs mass constraints. Gluino and top squark masses can range up to several TeV (with other squarks even heavier) but a set of light Higgsinos are required with mass not too far above $m_h\sim 125$ GeV. Within the RNS framework, gluinos dominantly decay via ${\tilde g} \to t{\tilde t}_1^{*},\ \bar{t}{\tilde t}_1 \to t\bar{t}{\widetilde Z}_{1,2}$ or $t\bar{b}{\widetilde W}_1^-+c.c.$, where the decay products of the higgsino-like ${\widetilde W}_1$ and ${\widetilde Z…
The current measurement of the Higgs mass, the ubiquitous nature of loop-suppressed gaugino masses in gravity-mediated supersymmetry breaking, relic dark matter density from $\sim$ TeV mass gauginos, together with the success of supersymmetric gauge coupling unification, suggest that scalar superpartner masses are roughly $m_{sc} \sim$ 100-1000 TeV. Higgsino masses, if not at the Planck scale, should generically appear at the same scale. The gaugino mass contributions from anomaly mediation, with the heavy Higgsino threshold, generally leads to a more compressed spectrum than standard anomaly …
We reanalyze the constraints on light gluinos (m_{\tilde{g}}\leq 5 GeV/c^2) from the hadronic Z decays into four jets. We find that the published OPAL data from the 1991 and 1992 runs exclude a light quasi-stable gluino with mass \lesssim 1.5 GeV/c^2 at more than 90% confidence level. This limit depends little on assumptions about the gluino fragmentation and the definition of the gluino mass. The exclusion confidence level is shown as a function of the mass. A future projection is briefly discussed. We also discuss quantitatively how the distributions in the Bengtsson-Zerwas and the modified …
The production of exotic heavy hadronic particles arise in several models for physics beyond the Standard Model. A study of the detection possibilities of new heavy hadron states with the ATLAS detector is presented. The focus is on R-hadrons, which are stable hadronized gluinos, predicted by certain supersymmetric models. Interactions and signatures of single R-hadrons are studied with the ATLAS simulation and reconstruction framework and issues concerning triggering on R-hadron events are addressed. The ATLAS fast simulation framework has been extended to include parameterizations for R-hadr…
The Z boson can decay to a pair of light gluinos through loop-mediated processes. Based on unitarity of the S-matrix, the imaginary part of the decay amplitude is computed in the presence of a light bottom squark. This imaginary part can provide useful information on the full amplitude. Implications are discussed for a recently proposed light gluino and light bottom squark scenario.
We investigate squark and gluino pair production at LHC (CMS) with subsequent decays into quarks, leptons and LSP in models with effective supersymmetry where third generation of squarks is relatively light while the first two generations of squarks are heavy. We consider the general case of nonuniversal gaugino masses. Visibility of signal by an excess over SM background in (n \geq 2)jets + (m \geq 0)leptons + E^{miss}_T events depends rather strongly on the relation between LSP, second neutralino, gluino and squark masses and it decreases with the increase of LSP mass. We find that for relat…
We study single top production at the LHC in a SUSY-QCD model with a heavy Dirac gluino. The presence of a heavy Dirac gluino allows for notable top-up flavour changing neutral currents. In this scenario, we find that the process ug->tg gives the largest contribution to single top production via FCNCs at the LHC. The key features of this signal are that the top quark is produced very forward and that it is asymmetric to its anti-top counterpart, as the latter lacks a valence quark.
