We discuss physics of the three neutrino flavor transformation with non-unitary mixing matrix, with particular attention to the correlation between the $ν$SM- and the $α$ parameters which represent effect of unitarity violating (UV) new physics. Toward the goal, a new perturbative framework is created to illuminate the effect of non-unitarity in region of the solar-scale enhanced oscillations. We refute the skepticism about the physical reality of the $ν$SM CP $δ$ - $α$ parameter phase correlation by analysis with the SOL convention of $U_{\text{\tiny MNS}}$ in which $e^{ \pm i δ}$ is attached to $s_{12}$. Then, a comparative study between the solar- and atmospheric-scale oscillation regions allowed by the framework reveals a dynamical $δ-$(blobs of the $α$ parameters) correlation in the solar oscillation region, in sharp contrast to the ``chiral'' type phase correlation $[e^{- i δ} \barα_{μe}, e^{ - i δ} \barα_{τe}, \barα_{τμ}]$ in the PDG convention seen in the atmospheric oscillation region. An explicit perturbative calculation to first order in the $ν_μ \rightarrow ν_{e}$ channel allows us to decompose the UV related part of the probability into the unitary evolution part and the genuine non-unitary part. We observe that the effect of non-unitarity tends to cancel between these two parts, as well as between the different $α_{βγ}$ parameters.
We generalize the geometrical description of CP violation in the Standard Model in terms of a unitarity triangle. For three left-handed Majorana neutrinos CP violation in the lepton sector is determined by three unitarity triangles. With three additional right-handed neutrinos 15 quadrangles are required to characterize CP violation. We show the relation of the unitarity polygons with physical observables.
The possible existence of light and heavy sterile neutrinos may give rise to direct and indirect unitarity violation of the $3\times3$ lepton mixing matrix respectively. In the current work we study the potential of future accelerator neutrino facilities in probing the unitarity violation effects. Taking DUNE, T2HK and a low-energy Neutrino Factory (LENF) as working examples of future accelerator neutrino facilities, we study the distinct effects of direct and indirect unitarity violation on the discovery reach of the leptonic CP violation and precision measurements of $θ_{23}$ in the three ne…
We obtain tree-level unitarity constraints for the Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) with explicit CP-violation. We limit ourselves to the case with soft violation of the discrete Z_2 symmetry of theory. The key role is played by the rephasing invariance of the 2HDM lagrangian. Our simple approach for derivation of these constraints can be easily transferred to other forms of Higgs sector. We briefly discuss correspondence between possible violation of tree level unitarity limitation and physical content of theory.
We explore the unitarity violation of the CKM matrix in the model in which the third generation fermions are subjected to the separate SU(2)$_L$ gauge interaction. With the recent LEP and SLC data at $Z$-pole and low-energy neutral current interaction data, the analysis on the parameter space of the model is updated, and the unitary violation is predicted under the constraint.
We investigate the possibility of unitarity violation in the sequential neutrino mixing matrix in a scenario with extra compact spacelike dimensions. Gauge singlet neutrinos are assumed to propagate in one extra dimension, giving rise to an infinite tower of states in the effective four-dimensional theory. It is shown that this leads to small lepton-number violating entries in the neutrino mass matrix, which can violate unitarity on the order of one per cent.
Prompted by the recent observation of a Higgs-like particle at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), we investigate a quantitative correlation between possible departures of the gauge and Yukawa couplings of this particle from their Standard Model expectations and the scale of unitarity violation in the processes $WW \to WW$ and $t\bar t \to WW$.

Within a specific texture of the quark mass matrix the notion of a maximal violation of the $CP$ symmetry can be defined. The experimental constraints from weak decays imply that in reality one is close to the case of maximal $CP$ violation, which vanishes as the mass of the $u$--quark approaches zero. The unitarity triangle of the Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa matrix elements is determined. It is related to the triangle relating the Cabibbo angle to the quark mass ratios in the complex plane. The angle $α$ describing the $CP$ violation in the decay $B_d \rightarrow π^+ π^-$ is close to 90$^{\ci…
The presence of non-unitary neutrino mixing can affect the measurement of the three-neutrino leptonic Dirac CP phase and hamper efforts to probe CP violation due to degeneracies of the extra non-unitary CP phase with the standard CP phase. We study the effect of including non-unitarity on probing CP violation with the long-baseline experiments NO$ν$A, T2K and DUNE. We analyze the effect of non-unitary mixing at the level of oscillation probabilities associated with the relevant baselines, and present the CP violation sensitivity for the individual experiments and their combination. Our results…
We show how the tree level unitarity violations of compactified extra dimensional extensions of the Standard Model become much stronger when the scalar sector is included in the bulk. This effect occurs when the couplings are not suppressed for larger Kaluza-Klein levels, and could have relevant consequences for the phenomenology of the next generation of colliders. We also introduce a simple and generic formalism to obtain unitarity bounds for finite energies, taking into account coupled channels including the towers of Kaluza-Klein excitations.
In the light of the recent LHC data, we study precision tests sensitive to the violation of lepton universality, in particular the violation of unitarity in neutrino mixing. Keeping all data we find no satisfatory fit, even allowing for violations of unitarity in neutrino mixing. Leaving out sin$^2 θ_{\scriptsize \mbox{eff}}$ from the hadronic forward-backward asymmetry at LEP, we find a good fit to the data with some evidence of lepton universality violation at the $\mathcal{O}(10^{-3})$ level.
Phenomenological issues of the CP violation in the quark sector of the Standard Model are discussed. We consider quark mixing in the SM, standard and Wolfenstein parametrization of the $CKM$ mixing matrix and unitarity triangle. We discuss the phenomenology of the CP violation in $K^{0}_{L}$ and $B_{d}^{0} (\bar B_{d}^{0})$-decays. The standard unitarity triangle fit of the existing data is discussed. In appendix A we compare the $K^{0}\leftrightarrows \bar K^{0}$, $B_{d,s}^{0}\leftrightarrows \bar B^{0}_{d,s}$ etc oscillations with neutrino oscillations. In Appendix B we derive the evolution …
The area of the unitarity triangle is a measure of CP-violation. We introduce the leptonic unitarity triangles and study their properties. We consider the possibility of reconstructing the unitarity triangle in future oscillation and non-oscillation experiments. A set of measurements is suggested which will, in principle, allow us to measure all sides of the triangle, and consequently to establish CP-violation. For different values of the CP-violating phase, $δ_D$, the required accuracy of measurements is estimated. The key elements of the method include determination of $|U_{e3}|$ and studies…
If neutrino masses are obtained via the canonical seesaw mechanism, based on an underlying 2X2 mass matrix, unitarity violation of the neutrino mixing matrix is unavoidable, but its effect is extremely small. On the other hand, in the inverse (and linear) seesaw mechanisms, based on an underlying 3X3 mass matrix, it can be significant and possibly observable. This 3X3 matrix is examined in more detail, and a NEW variation (the lopsided seesaw) is proposed which has features of both mechanisms. A concrete example based on U(1)_N is discussed.
The Two-Higgs-Doublet Model is considered, in its CP-non-conserving version. It is shown quantitatively how vacuum stability and tree-level unitarity in the Higgs-Higgs-scattering sector constrain the parameter space of the model. In particular, at high values of tanbeta, the model violates unitarity, unless some of the Higgs bosons are heavy. In the regime of large CP violation in the neutral-Higgs-t-quark sector, which requires tanbeta lsim 1, the Yukawa coupling parameter space (determined by the neutral-Higgs-sector rotation matrix) is reasonably unconstrained. On the other hand, the corre…
We obtain tree-level unitarity constraints for the most general Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) with explicit CP-violation. We briefly discuss correspondence between possible violation of tree level unitarity limitation and physical content of the theory.
We derive the scale of unitarity violation from the geometry of Effective Field Theory (EFT) extensions of the Standard Model Higgs sector. The high-energy behavior of amplitudes with more than four scalar legs depends on derivatives of geometric invariants with respect to the physical Higgs field $h$, such that higher-point amplitudes begin to reconstruct the scalar manifold away from our vacuum. In theories whose low-energy limit can be described by the Higgs EFT (HEFT) but not the Standard Model EFT (SMEFT), non-analyticities in the vicinity of our vacuum limit the radius of convergence of …
If finite but tiny masses of the three active neutrinos are generated via the canonical seesaw mechanism with three heavy sterile neutrinos, the 3\times 3 Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata neutrino mixing matrix V will not be exactly unitary. This kind of indirect unitarity violation can be probed in a precision reactor antineutrino oscillation experiment, but it may be entangled with terrestrial matter effects as both of them are very small. We calculate the probability of \overlineν_e \to \overlineν_e oscillations in a good analytical approximation, and find that, besides the zero-distance eff…
We analyze the scattering of fermions, Higgs and electroweak gauge bosons in order to obtain the partial-wave unitarity bounds on dimension-six effective operators, including those involving fermions. We also quantify whether, at the LHC energies, the dimension-six operators lead to unitarity violation after taking into account the presently available constraints on their Wilson coefficients. Our results show that for most dimension-six operators relevant for the LHC physics there is no unitarity violation at the LHC energies, and consequently, there is no need for the introduction of form fac…
In effective field theories it is common to identify the onset of new physics with the violation of tree-level unitarity. However, we show that this is parametrically incorrect in the case of chiral perturbation theory, and is probably theoretically incorrect in general. In the chiral theory, we explore perturbative unitarity violation as a function of the number of colors and the number of flavors, holding the scale of the "new physics" (i.e. QCD) fixed. This demonstrates that the onset of new physics is parametrically uncorrelated with tree-unitarity violation. When the latter scale is lower…
Starting from a (new physics independent) tree level determination of rhobar and etabar, we perform the Unitarity Triangle analysis in general extensions of the Standard Model with arbitrary new physics contributions to loop-mediated processes. Using a simple parameterization, we determine the allowed ranges of non-standard contributions to |Delta F|=2 processes. Remarkably, the recent measurements from B factories allow us to determine with good precision the shape of the Unitarity Triangle even in the presence of new physics, and to derive stringent constraints on non-standard contributions …
The effects of physics beyond the Standard Model may be parametrized by a set of higher-dimensional operators leading to an effective theory. The introduction of these operators makes the theory nonrenormalizable, and one may reasonably expect a violation of unitarity in $2\to 2$ scattering processes, depending on the values of the Wilson coefficients of the higher dimensional operators. Bounds on these coefficients may be obtained from demanding that there be no such unitarity violation below the scale of the effective theory. We show, at the lowest level, how the new operators affect the scat…
We examine the unitarity properties of spontaneously broken non-commutative gauge theories. We find that the symmetry breaking mechanism in the non-commutative Standard Model of Chaichian et al. leads to an unavoidable violation of tree-level unitarity in gauge boson scattering at high energies. We then study a variety of simplified spontaneously broken non-commutative theories and isolate the source of this unitarity violation. Given the group theoretic restrictions endemic to non-commutative model building, we conclude that it is difficult to build a non-commutative Standard Model under the …
We investigate the sensitivity with which two angles of the "flat" unitarity triangle, defined by $V_{ub}^* V_{us} + V_{cb}^* V_{cs} + V_{tb}^* V_{ts} =0$, can possibly be measured directly at FCCee. We show that the measured errors on the angle $α_s = \arg(- V_{ub}^* V_{us} /V_{tb}^* V_{ts})$ and $β_s = \arg(-V_{tb}^* V_{ts} / V_{cb}^* V_{cs})$ should be better than $0.4^\circ$ and $0.035^\circ$, respectively. These measurements, combined with the measurement of the 3rd angle $γ_s = \arg(- V_{cb}^* V_{cs}/ V_{ub}^* V_{us})$, discussed in a different paper, will contribute to probe further the…
We present a new method to analyze upcoming results in the search for CP violating neutrino oscillations. The CP violating amplitudes $\mathcal{A}_{αβ}^{kj}$ provide parametrization independent observables, which will be accessible by experiments soon. The strong prediction of a unique $\mathcal{A}_{αβ}^{kj}$ (the Jarlskog invariant) in case of the standard three neutrino model does not hold in models with new physics beyond the Standard Model. Nevertheless there are still correlations among the amplitudes depending on the specific model. Due to these correlations it is possible to reject spec…
Unitarity-violation presents a challenge for non-minimally coupled models of inflation based on weak-scale particle physics. We examine the energy scale of tree-level unitarity-violation in scattering processes for generalized models with multiple scalar fields where the inflaton is either a singlet scalar or the Higgs. In the limit that the non-minimal couplings are all equal (e.g. in the case of Higgs or other complex inflaton), the scale of tree-level unitarity-violation matches the existing result. However if the inflaton is a singlet, and if it has a larger non-minimal coupling than other…
We show that it is possible to accommodate the observed size of the phase in $B^0_s$--$\bar B^0_s$, mixing in the framework of a model with violation of $3\times 3$ unitarity. This violation is associated to the presence of a new $Q=2/3$ isosinglet quark $T$, which mixes both with $t$ and $c$ and has a mass not exceeding 500 GeV. The crucial point is the fact that this framework allows for $χ\equiv\arg(-V_{ts}V_{cb}V_{tb}^*V_{cs}^*)$ of order $λ$, to be contrasted with the situation in the Standard Model, where $χ$ is constrained to be of order $λ^2$. We point out that this scenario implies ra…
We derive model independent lower bounds on the CKM parameters (1-rhobar) and etabar as functions of the mixing-induced CP asymmetry S in B-> pi+ pi- and sin(2 beta) from B->psi K_S. The bounds do not depend on specific results of theoretical calculations for the penguin contribution to B-> pi+ pi-. They require only the very conservative condition that a hadronic phase, which vanishes in the heavy-quark limit, does not exceed 90 degrees in magnitude. The bounds are effective if -sin(2 beta) < S < 1. Dynamical calculations indicate that the limits on rhobar and etabar are close to their actual…
We study particle production and unitarity violation caused by a curved target space right after inflation. We use the inflaton field value instead of cosmic time as the time variable, and derive a semiclassical formula for the spectrum of produced particles. We then derive a simple condition for unitarity violation during preheating, which we confirm by our semiclassical method and numerical solution. This condition depends not only on the target space curvature but also on the height of the inflaton potential at the end of inflation. This condition tells us, for instance, that unitarity is v…
In the presence of both direct and indirect unitarity violation in the lepton mixing matrix, we derive a complete set of series expansion formulas for neutrino oscillation probabilities in matter of constant density. Expansions in the mass hierarchy parameter $α\equiv Δm_{21}^{2} / Δm_{31}^{2}$ and those unitarity violation parameters $s^{2}_{ij}$ (for i = 1, 2, 3 and j = 4, 5, 6) up to the first order are studied in this paper. We analyse the accuracy of the analytical series expansion formulas in different regions of L / E. A detailed numerical analysis is also performed, of which the differ…
Perturbative unitarity conditions have been playing an important role by estimating the energy scale of new physics, including the Higgs mass as one of the most important examples. In this letter, we show that there is a possibility to see the hint of a new physics (top quark partner) indirectly by observing an "apparent" unitarity violation in $M_{bw}$ distribution well above top quark mass in a process of a heavy resonance decaying into a pair of top quarks.
We discuss the determination of the CKM parameters from the forthcoming $CP$ violation observables in $B_s \to K^+ K^-$ decays. Combining the information on mixing induced CP violation in $B_s \to K^+ K^-$, with the $B_d \to J/ψK_s$ precision observable $\sin 2β$ and the $B^0_s$--$\bar{B^0_s}$ mixing phase $ϕ_s$, we propose a determination of the unitarity triangle $(\barρ, \barη)$. Computing the penguin parameters $(r, θ)$ within QCD factorization yield precise determination of $(\barρ, \barη)$, reflected by a weak dependence on the $θ$ which is shown as a second order effect. The impact of t…
In view of the latest T2K and MINOS observations regarding the mixing angle s_{13}, we have explored the possibility of existence of CP violation in the leptonic sector. Using hints from the construction of the 'db' unitarity triangle in the quark sector, we have made an attempt to construct the 'ν_1.ν_3' leptonic unitarity triangle, suggesting a good possibility of having non zero CP violation.
We study the linking between the CP violating phase of the lepton sectors and the unitarity triangle of the B0 meson system. Antusch, King, Malinsky and Spinrath have shown that the quark mass matrices with the negligible 1-3 mixing give an interesting relation between the phase of the quark mixing matrices and CP violating measure phi_2(alpha). This approach is extended by considering the SO(10) GUT including the Pati-Salam symmetry, which links the Yukawa matrices of the quark sector to the one of the lepton sector. We discuss the relation of the CP violating phases between both quark and le…
We perform a combined analysis of the unitarity triangle and of the CP violating parameter epsilon'/epsilon using the most recent determination of the relevant experimental data and, whenever possible, hadronic matrix elements from lattice QCD. We discuss the role of the main non-perturbative parameters and make a comparison with other recent analyses. We use lattice results for the matrix element of Q_8 obtained without reference to the strange quark mass. Since a reliable lattice determination of the matrix element of Q_6 is still missing, the theoretical predictions for epsilon'/epsilon suf…
Possible effects of noncommutative geometry on weak CP violation and unitarity triangles are discussed by taking account of a simple version of the momentum-dependent quark mixing matrix in the noncommutative standard model. In particular, we calculate nine rephasing invariants of CP violation and illustrate the noncommutative CP-violating effect in a couple of charged D-meson decays. We also show how inner angles of the deformed unitarity triangles are related to CP-violating asymmetries in some typical B_d and B_s transitions into CP eigenstates. B-meson factories are expected to help probe …
Perturbative probability conservation provides a strong constraint on the presence of new interactions of the Higgs boson. In this work we consider CP violating Higgs interactions in conjunction with unitarity constraints in the gauge-Higgs and fermion-Higgs sectors. Injecting signal strength measurements of the recently discovered Higgs boson allows us to make concrete and correlated predictions of how CP-violation in the Higgs sector can be directly constrained through collider searches for either characteristic new states or tell-tale enhancements in multi-Higgs processes.
In view of the observed strong hierarchy of quark masses, we propose a new description of flavor mixing which is particularly suited for models of quark mass matrices based on flavor symmetries. The necessary and sufficient conditions for CP violation are clarified. The emergence of CP violation is primarily linked to a large phase difference (near 90^{\circ}) in the light quark sector. The unitarity triangle is determined by the mass ratios of the light quarks. We conclude that the unitarity triangle should be close or identical to a rectangular triangle, and CP violation is maximal in this s…
We regularize QCD using the combination of higher covariant derivatives and Pauli-Villars determinants proposed by Slavnov. It is known that for pure Yang-Mills theory the Pauli-Villars determinants generate unphysical logarithmic radiative corrections at one loop that modify the beta function. Here we prove that when the gauge fields are coupled to fermions so that one has QCD, these unphysical corrections translate into a violation of unitarity. We provide an understanding of this by seeing that Slavnov's choice for the Pauli-Villars determinants introduces extra propagating degrees of freed…
After the observation of non-zero $θ_{13}$ the goal has shifted to observe $CP$ violation in the leptonic sector. Neutrino oscillation experiments can, directly, probe the Dirac $CP$ phases. Alternatively, one can measure $CP$ violation in the leptonic sector using Leptonic Unitarity Quadrangle(LUQ). The existence of Standard Model (SM) gauge singlets - sterile neutrinos - will provide additional sources of $CP$ violation. We investigate the connection between neutrino survival probability and rephasing invariants of the $4\times4$ neutrino mixing matrix. In general, LUQ contain eight geometri…
Neutrino flavour oscillation is one of the primary indication of the existence of new physics beyond standard model. The presence of small neutrino mass is indispensable to explicate the oscillation among different flavours of neutrino. By the addition of a right handed neutral lepton with the standard model fermions, it is possible to generate tiny neutrino mass. Such additional fermion may induce non-unitarity to the $3\times 3$ PMNS mixing matrix which influences the propagation of neutrino in space-time. In this work the effect of non-unitary mixing matrix is analyzed in neutrino oscillati…
In this work, in the light of the developments for indefinite metric theories made by Lee and Wick, we study perturbative unitarity in a Lorentz-invariance violating QED model with higher-order operators. We show that by following the Lee-Wick prescription it is possible to preserve unitarity in the model at one-loop order in the coupling.
We review the subject of CP violation in $B$ decays in the Standard Model (SM) and beyond the SM. We describe some of the present most promising ways of testing the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) origin of CP violation through a determination of the three angles of the CKM matrix unitarity triangle. Other sources of CP nonconservation violate SM constraints on the unitarity triangle. We show that different models of physics beyond the SM can be distinguished by combining their effects in CP asymmetries and in rare flavor-changing $B$ decays.
We calculate the rates of radiative $β^- \to α^- + γ$ decays for $(α, β) = (e, μ)$, $(e, τ)$ and $(μ, τ)$ by taking the {\it unitary} gauge in the $(3+n)$ active-sterile neutrino mixing scheme, and make it clear that constraints on the unitarity of the $3\times 3$ Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) matrix $U$ extracted from $β^- \to α^- + γ$ decays in the {\it minimal unitarity violation} scheme differ from those obtained in the canonical seesaw mechanism with $n$ heavy Majorana neutrinos by a factor $5/3$. In such a natural seesaw case we show that the rates of $β^- \to α^- + γ$ can be us…
In this paper we explore the effect of non-unitary neutrino mixing on neutrino oscillation probabilities both in vacuum and matter. In particular, we consider the $ν_μ\to ν_τ$ channel and using a Neutrino Factory as the source for $ν_μ$'s discuss the constraints that can be obtained on the moduli and phases of the parameters characterizing the violation of unitarity. We point out how the new CP violation phases present in the case where the non-unitary mixings give rise to spurious ``degenerate'' solutions in the parameter space and discuss how the true solutions can be extricated by combining…
We analyze the extraction of weak phases from CP violation in $B\toπ^+π^-$ decays. We propose to determine the unitarity triangle $(\barρ,\barη)$ by combining the information on mixing induced CP violation in $B\toπ^+π^-$, $S$, with the precision observable $\sin 2β$ obtained from the CP asymmetry in $B\toψK_S$. It is then possible to write down exact analytical expressions for $\barρ$ and $\barη$ as simple functions of the observables $S$ and $\sin 2β$, and of the penguin parameters $r$ and $ϕ$. As an application clean lower bounds on $\barη$ and $1-\barρ$ can be derived as functions of $S$ a…
We present a classification of the unitarity quadrangles in the four-neutrino mixing scheme. We find that there are totally thirty-six distinct topologies among twelve different unitarity quadrangles. Concise relations are established between the areas of those unitarity quadrangles and the rephasing invariants of CP and $T$ violation.
Neutrino Physics is a mature branch of science with all the three neutrino mixing angles and two mass squared differences determined with high precision. Inspite of several experimental verifications of neutrino oscillations and precise measurements of two mass squared differences and the three mixing angles, the unitarity of the leptonic mixing matrix is not yet established, leaving room for the presence of small non-unitarity effects. Deriving the bounds on these non-unitarity parameters from existing experimental constraints, on cLFV decays such as, $ μ\rightarrow eγ$, $ μ\rightarrow τγ$, $…
Pion-pion scattering amplitude obtained from one-loop Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) is crossing symmetric, however the corresponding partial-wave amplitudes do not respect exact unitarity relation. There are different approaches to get unitarized results from ChPT. Here we consider the inverse amplitude method (IAM) and, using the Roskies relations, we measure the amount of crossing symmetry violation when IAM is used in order to fit pion-pion phase-shifts to experimental data in the resonance region. We also show the unitarity violation of the crossing symmetric ChPT amplitude with its pa…
If leptonic unitarity is violated by new physics at an energy scale much lower than the electroweak scale, which we call low-scale unitarity violation, it has different characteristic features from those expected in unitarity violation at high-energy scales. They include maintaining flavor universality and absence of zero-distance flavor transition. We present a framework for testing such unitarity violation at low energies by neutrino oscillation experiments. Starting from the unitary 3 active plus $N$ (arbitrary integer) sterile neutrino model we show that by restricting the active-sterile a…
Recent highlights in CP violation phenomena are reviewed. B-factory results imply that CP-violation phase in the CKM matrix is the dominant contributor to the observed CP violation in K and B-physics. Deviations from the predictions of the CKM-paradigm due to beyond the Standard Model CP-odd phase are likely to be a small perturbation. Therefore, large data sample of clean B's will be needed. Precise determination of the unitarity triangle, along with time dependent CP in penguin dominated hadronic and radiative modes are discussed. Null tests in B, K and top-physics and separate determination…

If massive neutrinos are Majorana particles, then the lepton number should be violated and neutrino-antineutrino oscillations will take place. In this talk, we present the properties of CP violation in neutrino-antineutrino oscillations with a non-unitary leptonic flavor mixing matrix, which naturally arises in the type-I seesaw model due to the mixing between light and heavy Majorana neutrinos. Taking into account current experimental bounds on the leptonic unitarity violation, we show that the CP asymmetries induced by the non-unitary mixing parameters can significantly deviate from those in…
Due to a recent more precise evaluation of $V_{ud}$ and $V_{us}$, the unitarity condition of the first row in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix: $|V_{ud}|^2 + |V_{us}|^2 + |V_{ub}|^2 = 0.99798 \pm 0.00038$ now stands at a deviation more than $4σ$ from unity. Furthermore, a mild excess in the overall Higgs signal strength appears at about $2σ$ above the standard model (SM) prediction, as well as the long-lasting discrepancy in the forward-backward asymmetry ${\cal A}_{\rm FB}^b$ in $Z\to b\bar b$ at LEP. Motivated from the above three anomalies we investigate an extension of the SM wit…
Explorations of the violation of null energy condition (NEC) in cosmology could enrich our understanding of the very early universe and the related gravity theories. Although a fully stable NEC violation can be realized in the ``beyond Horndeski'' theory, it remains an open question whether a violation of the NEC is allowed by some fundamental properties of UV-complete theories or the consistency requirements of effective field theory (EFT). We investigate the tree-level perturbative unitarity for stable NEC violations in the contexts of both Galileon and ``beyond Horndeski'' genesis cosmology…
