The non-collinear spin configurations cause many nontrivial phenomena related to the Berry phase. They are described by the vector spin chirality $χ_{ij} ={\bf S}_i\times{\bf S}_j$ or scalar spin chirality $χ_{ijk}=({\bf S}_i \times {\bf S}_j) \cdot {\bf S}_k$, which are related to the spin current and effective magnetic field, respectively. The scalar spin chirality leads to the topological Hall effect in metals, while the vector spin chirality to the ferroelectricity of spin origin, i.e., multiferroics in insulators. However, the role of the vector spin chirality in conducting systems has not yet elucidated. Here we show theoretically that the spin fluctuation with vector spin chirality in chiral magnets scatters electrons asymmetrically, resulting in a nonreciprocal transport phenomena, i.e., electrical magnetochiral effect (eMChE). This asymmetric scattering appears in the leading-order scattering term, implying a large nonreciprocity in the charge and spin currents. We find that the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the eMChE reproduces that observed in MnSi. Our results reveal the microscopic mechanism of eMChE and its potential in producing a large nonreciprocal response.
Chirality of matter can produce unique responses in optics, electricity and magnetism. In particular, magnetic crystals transmit their handedness to the magnetism via antisymmetric exchange interaction of relativistic origin, producing helical spin orders as well as their fluctuations. Here we report for a chiral magnet MnSi that chiral spin fluctuations manifest themselves in the electrical magnetochiral effect (eMChE), i.e. the nonreciprocal and nonlinear response characterized by the electrical conductance depending on inner product of electric and magnetic fields $\boldsymbol{E} \cdot \bol…
Nonreciprocal resistance, depending on both directions of current ($j$) and magnetic-field ($H$) or magnetization ($M$), is generally expected to emerge in a chiral conductor, and be maximized for $j$ $\parallel$ $H$($M$). This phenomenon, electrical magnetochiral effect (eMChE), is empirically known to increase with $H$ in a paramagnetic or fully ferromagnetic state on chiral lattice or to depend on fluctuation properties of a helimagnetic state. We report here the eMChE over a wide temperature range in the chiral-lattice magnet MnGe in which the spin hedgehog lattice (HL) forms with the trip…
In the quantum anomalous Hall effect, chiral edge modes are expected to conduct spin polarized current without dissipation and thus hold great promise for future electronics and spintronics with low energy consumption. However, spin polarization of chiral edge modes has never been established in experiments. In this work, we theoretically study spin polarization of chiral edge modes in the quantum anomalous Hall effect, based on both the effective model and more realistic tight-binding model constructed from the first principles calculations. We find that spin polarization can be manipulated b…

We demonstrate quite generally how a conserved current can have an anomalous dimension. We show here that if the current in the normal state of the cuprates has an anomalous dimension, then the Aharonov-Bohm flux through a ring does not have the standard $eBA/\hbar$ form, where $A$ is the area and $B$ the external magnetic field, but instead is modified by a geometrical factor that depends directly on the anomalous dimension of the current. We calculate the signal in square and disk geometries. In both cases, the deviation from the standard result is striking and offers a fingerprint about wha…
We report the observation of a quantum anomalous Hall effect in twisted bilayer graphene showing Hall resistance quantized to within .1\% of the von Klitzing constant $h/e^2$ at zero magnetic field. The effect is driven by intrinsic strong correlations, which polarize the electron system into a single spin and valley resolved moiré miniband with Chern number $C=1$. In contrast to extrinsic, magnetically doped systems, the measured transport energy gap $Δ/k_B\approx 27$~K is larger than the Curie temperature for magnetic ordering $T_C\approx 9$~K, and Hall quantization persists to temperatures o…
Magnetism typically arises from the joint effect of Fermi statistics and repulsive Coulomb interactions, which favors ground states with non-zero electron spin. As a result, controlling spin magnetism with electric fields---a longstanding technological goal in spintronics and multiferroics---can be achieved only indirectly. Here, we experimentally demonstrate direct electric field control of magnetic states in an orbital Chern insulator, a magnetic system in which non-trivial band topology favors long range order of orbital angular momentum but the spins are thought to remain disordered. We us…

We report anomalous Hall effect (AHE) and transport properties of trigonal Cr$_5$Te$_8$ (tr-Cr$_5$Te$_8$) single crystals. The electrical resistivity as well as the Seebeck coefficient shows a clear kink at the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition of tr-Cr$_5$Te$_8$, which is also confirmed by the heat capacity measurement. The scaling behavior between anomalous Hall resistivity $ρ^A_{xy}$ and longitudinal resistivity $ρ_{xx}$ is linear below $T_c$. Further analysis suggests that the AHE in tr-Cr$_5$Te$_8$ is dominated by the skew-scattering mechanism rather than the intrinsic or extrinsic si…
We report complex metamagnetic transitions in single crystals of the new low carrier Kondo antiferromagnet YbRh3Si7. Electrical transport, magnetization, and specific heat measurements reveal antiferromagnetic order at T_N = 7.5 K. Neutron diffraction measurements show that the magnetic ground state of YbRh3Si7 is a collinear antiferromagnet where the moments are aligned in the ab plane. With such an ordered state, no metamagnetic transitions are expected when a magnetic field is applied along the c axis. It is therefore surprising that high field magnetization, torque, and resistivity measure…

One of the key technologies in spintronics is to tame spin-orbit coupling (SOC) that links spin and motion of electrons, giving rise to intriguing magneto-transport properties in itinerant magnets. Prominent examples of such SOC-based phenomena are anomalous and topological Hall effects. However, controlling them by electric field has remained unachieved since electric field tends to be screened in itinerant magnets. Here we demonstrate that both anomalous and topological Hall effects can be modulated by electric field in oxide heterostructures consisting of ferromagnetic SrRuO$_{3}$ and nonma…
We report bulk superconductivity at 2.5K in LaO0.5F0.5BiSe2 compound through the DC magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity measurements. The synthesized LaO0.5F0.5BiSe2 compound is crystallized in tetragonal structure with space group P4/nmm and Reitveld refined lattice parameters are a= 4.15(1)A and c=14.02(2)A. The lower critical field of Hc1= 40Oe, at temperature 2K is estimated through the low field magnetization measurements. The LaO0.5F0.5BiSe2 compound showed metallic normal state electrical resistivity with residual resistivity value of 1.35mΩ-cm. The compound is type-II su…
We revealed the electrical transport through surface ferromagnetic states of a nonmagnetic metal PdCoO2. Electronic reconstruction at the Pd-terminated surface of PdCoO2 induces Stoner-like ferromagnetic states, which could lead to spin-related phenomena among the highly conducting electrons in PdCoO2. Fabricating a series of nanometer-thick PdCoO2 thin films, we detected a surface-magnetization-driven anomalous Hall effect via systematic thickness- and termination-dependent measurements. Besides, we discuss that finite magnetic moments in electron doped CoO2 triangular lattices may have given…
Single crystals of intermetallic Re$_3$Ge$_7$ were grown and characterized by measuring magnetization, electrical resistivity, Hall coefficient, and specific heat. Magnetization measurements show the material is weakly diamagnetic. A phase transition is indicated by a kink in magnetic susceptibility at $T_{c} = 58.5$K and is confirmed by a $λ$-like anomaly in specific heat. In zero-field, the temperature dependence of electrical resistivity $ρ(T)$ follows a typical metallic behavior above $T_c$ and sharply increases below $T_c$, showing a metal-to-insulator-like transition. When a magnetic fie…
We report magnetic and electrical properties for single crystals of NdMn$_6$Sn$_6$ and SmMn$_6$Sn$_6$. They crystallize into a structure which has distorted, Mn-based kagome lattices, compared to the pristine kagome lattices in heavy-rare-earth-bearing RMn$_6$Sn$_6$ compounds. They are hightemperature ferromagnets of which the R moment is parallel with the Mn moment. We observed a large intrinsic anomalous Hall effect (AHE) that is comparable to the ferrimagnetic, heavy-R siblings in a wide range of temperature. We conclude that their intrinsic AHE is stemming from the Mn-based kagome lattice,…
