In this paper, we study the viability of having a fermion Dark Matter particle below the TeV mass scale in connection to the neutrino mass generation mechanism. The simplest realization is achieved within the scotogenic model where neutrino masses are generated at the 1-loop level. Hence, we consider the case where the dark matter particle is the lightest $\mathbb{Z}_2$-odd Majorana fermion running in the neutrino mass loop. We assume that lepton number is broken dynamically due to a lepton number carrier scalar singlet which acquires a non-zero vacuum expectation value. In the present scenario the Dark Matter particles can annihilate via $t$- and $s$-channels. The latter arises from the mixing between the new scalar singlet and the Higgs doublet. We identify three different Dark Matter mass regions below 1 TeV that can account for the right amount of dark matter abundance in agreement with current experimental constraints. We compute the Dark Matter-nucleon spin-independent scattering cross-section and find that the model predicts spin-independent cross-sections ``naturally'' dwelling below the current limit on direct detection searches of Dark Matter particles reported by XENON1T.
We propose a radiatively induced quark and lepton mass model in the first and second generation with extra $U(1)$ gauge symmetry and vector-like fermions. Then we analyze the allowed regions which simultaneously satisfy the FCNCs for the quark sector, LFVs including $μ-e$ conversion, the quark mass and mixing, and the lepton mass and mixing. Also we estimate the typical value for the $(g-2)_μ$ in our model.
The vacuum of the Standard Model is known to be unstable for the measured values of the top and Higgs masses. Here we show how vacuum stability can be achieved naturally if lepton number is violated spontaneously at the TeV scale. More precise Higgs measurements in the next LHC run should provide a crucial test of our symmetry breaking scenario. In addition, these schemes typically lead to enhanced rates for processes involving lepton flavour violation .
A new ansatz of democratic lepton mixing is proposed at the GUT scale and the radiative corrections to its phenomenological consequences are calculated at the electroweak scale. We demonstrate that it is possible to obtain the experimentally favored results for both neutrino masses and lepton flavor mixing angles from this ansatz, provided the neutrino Yukawa coupling matrix takes a specific nontrivial pattern. The seesaw threshold effects play a significant role in the running of relevant physical quantities.
The kinematical difference between the description of radiative effects for fixed $Q^2$ vs a fixed scattering angle in the elastic lepton-proton ($lp$)-scattering is discussed. The technique of calculation as well as explicit expressions for radiative corrections to the lepton current in unpolarized elastic $lp$-scattering for these two cases are presented without using an ultrarelativistic approximation. A comparative numerical analysis within kinematic conditions of Jefferson Lab measurements and MUSE experiment in PSI is performed.
The notion of U(1) lepton number (which may only be softly broken) is applied to models of dark matter which interacts with leptons. Previous scotogenic models of Majorana or Dirac neutrino mass are shown to be derivable in this framework without additional symmetries. Only complete renormalizable theories are considered. An explicit class of models with $Z_n$ ($n \geq 5$) lepton and dark symmetry for Dirac neutrinos is derived, as well as an example of $Z_3$ dark symmetry.
The well-known leptonic U(1) symmetry of the standard model of quarks and leptons is extended to include a number of new fermions and scalars. The resulting theory has an invisible QCD axion (thereby solving the strong CP problem), a candidate for weak-scale dark matter, as well as radiative neutrino masses. A possible key connection is a color-triplet scalar, which may be produced and detected at the Large Hadron Collider.
We perform an updated analysis for the one-loop induced lepton flavor violating radiative decays $l_i \to l_j γ$ in an extended mirror model. Mixing effects of the neutrinos and charged leptons constructed with a horizontal $A_4$ symmetry are also taken into account. Current experimental limit and projected sensitivity on the branching ratio of $μ\to e γ$ are used to constrain the parameter space of the model. Calculations of two related observables, the electric and magnetic dipole moments of the leptons, are included. Implications concerning the possible detection of mirror leptons at the LH…
The recent experimental status, including the confirmation of the muon $g-2$ anomaly at Fermilab, indicates a Beyond Standard Model (BSM) satisfying the following properties: 1) it enhances the $g-2$ 2) suppresses flavor violations, such as $μ\to e γ$, 3) suppresses CP violations, such as the electron electric dipole moment (EDM). In this letter, I show that if the masses of heavy leptons are generated radiatively, the eigenbasis of the mass matrix and higher dimensional photon operators can be automatically aligned. As a result, the muon $g-2$ is enhanced but the EDM of the electron and $μ\to…
The polarization effects in the one-meson radiative decay of the polarized $τ$ lepton, $τ^-\toπ^-γν_τ$, are investigated. The inner bremsstrahlung and structural amplitudes are taken into account. The asymmetry of the differential decay width caused by the $τ$ lepton polarization and the Stokes parameters of the emitted photon itself, are calculated depending on the polarization of the decaying $τ$ lepton. The numerical estimation of these physical quantities was done for arbitrary direction of the $τ$ lepton polarization 3-vector in the rest frame. The vector and axial-vector form factors des…
A two-loop induced radiative neutrino model is proposed as an extension of our previous work in which the first and second generation standard model fermion masses are generated at one-loop level in both quark and lepton sectors. Then we discuss current neutrino oscillation data, lepton flavor violations, muon anomalous magnetic moment, and a bosonic dark matter candidate, for both the normal and inverted neutrino mass hierarchy. Our numerical analysis shows that less hierarchical Yukawa coupling constants can fit the experimental data with TeV scale dark matter.
Radiative corrections to the three-body region of the Dalitz plot of baryon semileptonic decays with angular correlation between polarized emitted baryons and charged leptons: The initial-baryon rest frame case
Radiative muon and tau lepton decays are described within the model-independent approach with the help of generalized Michel parameters. The exact dependence on charged lepton masses is taken into account. The results are relevant for modern and future experiments on muon and tau lepton decays.
We propose a new mechanism to explain neutrino masses with lepton number conservation, in which the Dirac neutrino masses are generated at the two-loop level involving a dark matter candidate. In this model, branching ratios of lepton flavor violating decays of the Higgs boson can be much larger than those of lepton flavor violating decays of charged leptons. If lepton flavor violating decays of the Higgs boson are observed at future collider experiments without detecting lepton flavor violating decays of charged leptons, most of the models previously proposed for tiny neutrino masses are excl…
We propose a simple model of spontaneous lepton number violation with potentially large flavor violating decays, including the possibility that majoron emitting decays, such as $μ\to e \, J$, saturate the experimental bounds. In this model the majoron is a singlet-doublet admixture. It generates a type-I seesaw for neutrino masses and contains also a vector-like lepton. As a by-product, the model can explain the anomalous $(g-2)_μ$ in parts of its parameter space, where one expects that the branching ratio of the Higgs to muons is changed with respect to Standard Model expectations. However, t…
An anomaly-free U(1) gauge extension of the standard model (SM) is presented. Only one Higgs doublet with a nonzero vacuum expectation is required as in the SM. New fermions and scalars as well as all SM particles transform nontrivially under this U(1), resulting in a model of three active neutrinos and one sterile neutrino, all acquiring radiative masses. Charged-lepton masses are also radiative as well as the mixing between active and sterile neutrinos. At the same time, a residual $Z_2$ symmetry of the U(1) gauge symmetry remains exact, allowing for the existence of dark matter.
A symmetry violation model is considered for a system that can spontaneously choose between identical states which differ from each other only in weak properties (R-L). Such mirror symmetry allows reproduction of observed qualitative properties of quark and lepton mixing matrices. The lepton mixing matrix evidences in this case in favor of the inverse mass spectrum and the Dirac nature of SM neutrino. Notwithstanding the Dirac properties of neutrino, an exchange of lepton numbers such as $e^{-}+μ^{+}\rightarrow e^{+}+μ^{-}$ is possible but with only leptons participating in the process.
We consider the one-loop radiative corrections to the light-neutrino mass matrix and their consequences for the predicted branching ratios of the five lepton-flavour-violating decays $\ell_1^- \to \ell_2^- \ell_3^+ \ell_3^-$ in a two-Higgs-doublet model furnished with the type-I seesaw mechanism and soft lepton-flavour violation. We find that the radiative corrections are very significant; they may alter the predicted branching ratios by several orders of magnitude and, in particular, they may help explain why $\mbox{BR}(μ^- \to e^- e^+ e^-)$ is strongly suppressed relative to the branching ra…
We investigate charged lepton flavor violating processes $μ\rightarrow e γ$, $μ\rightarrow e e \overline{e}$ and $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei for a class of three-loop radiative neutrino mass generation models with electroweak multiplets of increasing order. We find that, because of certain cancellations among various one-loop diagrams which give the dipole and non-dipole contributions in effective $μe γ$ vertex and Z-penguin contribution in effective $μe Z$ vertex, the flavor violating processes $μ\rightarrow eγ$ and $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei become highly suppressed compared to $μ\rightarrow …
Complete one-loop electroweak radiative corrections to the cross section of the process $e^+e^- \to μ^-μ^+ (τ^-τ^+)$ are evaluated with the help of the \SANC system. Higher-order contributions of the initial state radiation are computed in the QED structure function formalism. Numerical results are given for the center-of-mass energy range $\sqrt{s}=5, ~7$~GeV for various polarization degrees of the initial particles.
We discuss how charged-lepton masses can be induced in multi-Higgs doublet models (NHDMs) through renormalization group running of Yukawa couplings. Examples of electron and muon mass generation are presented within scenarios with two- and three-Higgs-doublet models. We also show that quantum corrections to the Yukawa couplings can be naturally of the same order as the tree-level values. The impact of such corrections in NHDMs with right-handed neutrinos is briefly commented.
Though models with the radiative neutrino mass generation are phenomenologically attractive, the complicated relationship between the flavour structure of additional Yukawa matrices and the neutrino mass matrix sometimes is a barrier to explore the models. We introduce a simple prescription to analyze the relation in a class of models with the asymmetric Yukawa structure. We then apply the treatment to the Zee-Babu model as a concrete example of the class and discuss the phenomenological consequences of the model. The combined studies among the neutrino physics, the lepton flavour violation, a…
One-loop radiative corrections will lead to a small difference between the matter potentials developed by $ν_μ^{}$ and $ν_τ$ when they travel in a medium. By including such radiative corrections, we derive the exact expressions of the corresponding effective mass-squared differences and the moduli square of the lepton flavor mixing matrix elements $|\widetilde U_{αi}^{}|^2$ (for $α=e,μ,τ$ and $i=1,2,3$) in matter in the standard three-flavor mixing scheme and focus on their asymptotic behaviors when the matter density is very big (i.e., the matter effect parameter $A\equiv 2\sqrt{2} G_{\rm F}^…
The interpretation of high-precision lepton-nucleon scattering experiments requires the knowledge of higher-order radiative corrections. We present a calculation of the cross section for unpolarized lepton-proton scattering including leptonic radiative corrections up to second order, including one- and two-loop corrections, radiation of one and two photons and one-loop corrections for one-photon radiation. Numerical results are given for the planned P2 experiment at the MESA facility in Mainz, and some results are also discussed for Qweak and the suggested MUSE experiment.
If leptons do not couple directly to the one Higgs doublet of the standard model of particle interactions, they must still do so somehow indirectly to acquire mass, as proposed recently in several models where it happens in one loop through dark matter. We analyze the important consequences of this scenario in a specific model, including Higgs decay, muon anomalous magnetic moment, $μ\to e γ$, $μ\to eee$, and the proposed dark sector.
This paper presents the high-precision theoretical predictions for $e^+e^- \to l^-l^+$ scattering. Calculations are performed using the {\tt SANC} system. They take into account complete one-loop electroweak radiative corrections as well as longitudinal polarization of initial beams. Reaction observables are obtained using the helicity amplitude method with taking into account initial and final state fermion masses. Numerical results are given for the center-of-mass energy range $\sqrt{s}=250-1000$ GeV with various degrees of polarization.
