We compute the $n_h$ terms to the massive three loop vector-, axialvector-, scalar- and pseudoscalar form factors in a direct analytic calculation using the method of large moments. This method has the advantage, that the master integrals have to be dealt with only in their moment representation, allowing to also consider quantities which obey differential equations, which are not first order factorizable (elliptic and higher), already at this level. To obtain all the associated recursions, up to 8000 moments had to be calculated. A new technique has been applied to solve the associated differential equation systems. Here the decoupling is performed such, that only minimal depth $ε$--expansions had to be performed for non--first-order factorizing systems, minimizing the calculation of initial values. The pole terms in the dimensional parameter $ε$ can be completely predicted using renormalization group methods, as confirmed by the present results. A series of contributions at $O(ε^0)$ have first order factorizable representations. For a smaller number of color--zeta projections this is not the case. All first order factorizing terms can be represented by harmonic polylogarithms. We also obtain analytic results for the non--first-order factorizing terms by Taylor series in a variable $x$, for which we have calculated at least 2000 expansion coefficients, in an approximation. Based on this representation the form factors can be given in the Euclidean region and in the region $q^2 \approx 0$. Numerical results are presented.
Using an effective Lagrangian approach we analyze a generic Higgsless model with composite heavy fermions, transforming as SU(2)_{L+R} Doublets. Assuming that the Standard Model fermions acquire mass through mixing with the new heavy fermions, we constrain the free parameters of the effective Lagrangian studying Flavour Changing Neutral Current processes. In so doing we obtain bounds that can be applied to a wide range of models characterized by the same fermion mixing hypothesis.
A simple nondiagrammatic evaluation of the nondecoupling effect of heavy fermions on the Veltman's Rho parameter is presented in detail. This calculation is based on the path integral approach, the electroweak chiral Lagrangian formalism, and the Schwinger proper time method.
We evaluate the cross sections for new heavy fermion production at three Large Hadron Collider energies accurate to next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. We treat the cases of pair production of heavy quarks via strong interactions, single heavy quark production via electroweak interactions, and the production of heavy leptons. Theoretical uncertainties associated with the choice of the renormalization scale and the parton distribution functions are specified. We derive a simple and useful parameterization of our results which should facilitate phenomenological studies …
Within a spontaneously broken gauge group we carefully analyse and calculate triple gauge boson vertices dominated by triangle one-loop Feynman diagrams involving heavy fermions compared to external momenta and gauge boson masses. We perform our calculation strictly in four dimensions and derive a general formula for the off-shell, one-particle irreducible (1PI) effective vertex which satisfies the relevant Ward Identities and the Goldstone boson equivalence theorem. Our goal is to search for non-decoupling heavy fermion effects highlighting their synergy with gauge chiral anomalies. Particula…
We present an extension of the antenna subtraction formalism at NLO to include massive final state fermions. The basic ingredients to the subtraction terms, the NLO massive final-final antenna functions are derived and integrated over the corresponding factorised phase space. Those antenna functions account for all soft, collinear and quasi-collinear limits of the QCD matrix elements involving massive fermions in the final state.
In this project we study the phenomenology of models where the Higgs is a bound state of a strongly interacting dynamics at the TeV scale and we assess the LHC potential to discover new heavy colored states. In the first part of the thesis we analyze the bounds on the spectrum of Composite Higgs Models (CHM) that come from flavor observables. In the second part we propose a novel strategy to discover a heavy gluon ($G^*$) and heavy fermions at the LHC. We do so by means of simple two-site effective Lagrangians, which could also be used in further phenomenological studies on CHM. From the analy…
We calculate the full set of the two-loop master integrals for heavy-to-light form factors of two different massive fermions for arbitrary momentum transfer in NNLO QCD or QED corrections. These integrals allow to determine the two-loop QCD or QED corrections to the amplitudes for heavy-to-light form factors of two massive fermions in a full analytical way, without any approximations. The analytical results of the master integrals are derived using the method of differential equations, along with a proper choosing of canonical basis for the master integrals. All the results of master integrals…
Strongly Interacting W's and Z's and the Existence of a Heavy Fourth Generation of Fermions
We perform a study of the LHC discovery reach on a heavy gluon (G*) and heavy fermions (top and bottom excitations), coming from a new composite sector. We find that heavy fermion resonances have a great impact on the composite gluon phenomenology. If the composite gluon is heavier than composite fermions, as flavor observables seem to suggest, the search in the channel where G* decays into a heavy fermion plus its Standard Model partner is very promising, with the possibility for both the G* and heavy fermions to be discovered at the early stage of the LHC. The channel offers also the possibi…
A composite Fermion (CF) model of quasi particle has been used to describe a diquark. Considering baryons in quark-diquark configuration, the masses of the heavy light baryons like $Λ_{c}^{+}$, $Σ_{c}^{+}$, $Ξ_{c}^{0}$, $Ω_{c}^{0}$ and $Λ_{b}^{+}$, $Σ_{b}^{+}$, $Ξ_{b}^{0}$, $Ω_{b}^{-}$ have been computed using this CF model of the diquark. The results are found to be in good agreement with the corresponding experimental findings. It has been suggested that the diquark can be well described in the framework of CF model in a gauge invariant way.
New heavy particles in an SU(2)_L multiplet, sometimes introduced in extensions of the standard model, have highly degenerate tree-level mass M if their couplings to the Higgs bosons are very small or forbidden. However, loop corrections may generate the gauge-symmetry-breaking mass splitting within the multiplet, which does not vanish in the large M limit due to the threshold singularity. We calculate the electroweak contribution to the mass splitting for a heavy fermion multiplet, to the two-loop order. Numerically, two-loop electroweak contributions are typically O(MeV).
We study a model of scalars which includes both the SM Higgs and a scalar singlet as composites of heavy vector-like fermions. The vector-like fermions are bounded by the super-strong four-fermion interactions. The scalar singlet decays to SM vector bosons through loop of heavy vector-like fermions. We show that the surprisingly large production cross section of di-photon events at 750 GeV resonance and the odd decay properties can all be explained. This model serves as a good model for both SM Higgs and a scalar resonance at 750 GeV.
We report on recent results obtained for the massive operator matrix elements which contribute to the massive Wilson coefficients in deep-inelastic scattering for $Q^2 \gg m_i^2$ in case of sub-processes with two fermion lines and different mass assignment.
We study resummed perturbative contributions due to a heavy top-quark. These renormalon contributions are evaluated for fermion propagators. Results for the top-quark width are given. Estimates of non-perturbative uncertainties are made on the ρ-parameter using different schemes of dealing with the Landau-pole. For the physical top-quark mass the effects are negligible.
Following the previous paper arXiv:1205.4827, we formulate an S-matrix functional for massive fermion ultra-helicity-violating (UHV) amplitudes, i.e., scattering amplitudes of positive-helicity gluons and a pair of massive fermions. The S-matrix functional realizes a massive extension of the Cachazo-Svrcek-Witten (CSW) rules in a functional language. Mass-dimension analysis implies that interactions among gluons and massive fermions should be decomposed into three-point massive fermion subamplitudes. Namely, such interactions are represented by combinations of three-point UHV and next-to-UHV (…
A possibility to produce bound states of several heavy fermions, which are bound together due to the Higgs exchange, is examined. It is shown that for 12 fermions, 6 fermions and 6 antifermions, occupying the lowest S_{1/2} shell this bound state cannot exist if the fermion mass is below the critical value, which depends on the Higgs mass and is found to be restricted to 320 < m_{cr} < 410 Gev/c^2 for the Higgs mass in the interval 100 < m_{H}< 200 Gev/c^2. This estimate is derived in the relativistic mean field approximation. The corrections are estimated to be not able to reduce significantl…
We formulate an effective theory for systems containing a heavy Majorana fermion, such as bound states of a long-lived gluino. This "Majorana HQET" has the same degrees of freedom as the well-studied Dirac HQET. It respects an emergent U(1) symmetry despite the fundamental absence of a U(1) for Majorana fermions. Reparameterization invariance works identically in the two HQETs. Remarkably, while a Dirac HQET may or may not be charge conjugation symmetric, a charge conjugation symmetry emerges in all Majorana HQETs, potentially offering low energy probes to distinguish the two theories.
Many extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics contain new electrically-neutral fermions. Should one of these particles be discovered, questions will naturally arise regarding its nature. For instance: is it a self-conjugate particle (i.e., is it a Dirac or a Majorana fermion)?, does it interact via the Standard Model force carriers or something else? One set of well-motivated particles in this class are Heavy Neutral Leptons (HNLs), Standard Model gauge-singlet fermions that mix with the neutrinos and may be produced in meson decays. We demonstrate that measuring the three body dec…
The amplitude of the diphoton decay of the Higgs boson is considered in an extension of the Standard Model involving heavy vectorlike fermions, which was recently suggested in the literature in order to explain a possible enhancement of the h -> gamma gamma decay rate. It is pointed out that generally in such models the decay amplitude acquires a sizable CP-odd contribution from the complex phases in the mass matrix of the new heavy fermions. The resulting CP violation in the diphoton decay can be studied experimentally when both photons are converted into e^+ e^- pairs by measuring the distri…
