This paper describes the reconstruction of electrons and photons with the ATLAS detector, as employed for measurements and searches exploiting the complete LHC Run 2 dataset. An improved energy clustering algorithm is introduced, and its implications for the measurement and identification of electrons and photons are discussed in detail. Corrections and calibrations that affect performance, including energy calibration, identification and isolation efficiencies, and the measurement of the charge of reconstructed electron candidates are determined using up to 81 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data collected at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV between 2015 and 2017.
New measurements from ATLAS at the LHC are presented on the total cross section at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV from elastic scattering using the ALFA sub-detector and on the inelastic cross section at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV using the MBTS sub-detector.
Selected results of searches for neutral long-lived particles with displaced and delayed jets, trackless jets and emerging jets, as well as displaced muons, obtained with data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations during LHC's Run 2 are presented, as well as challenges and techniques.
Searches for high-mass resonances decaying to pairs of standard model bosons using ATLAS and CMS detectors are presented. The searches use 15 - 36 $\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data collected at the centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the LHC. Many different final states have been considered and the results are interpreted in a range of theories beyond the standard model of particle physics, most common being heavy vector triplet and warped extra dimensions.
The ATLAS detector at the LHC is equipped with dedicated systems designed for the detection of forward protons produced in diffractive and photon-induced processes. These detectors significantly extend the ATLAS physics reach. Recent measurements performed using these forward proton detectors: elastic proton-proton scattering, exclusive charged pion-pair production, and two-photon production of lepton pairs are presented.
ATLAS has developed a new approach for vertex selection in VBF invisible events at HL-LHC conditions, exploiting its new forward tracking capabilities, integrating calorimeter and tracking information to mitigate the impact of pileup vertex merging, and introducing a new way to apply pile-up jet suppression methods for the selection of VBF jets. The new algorithm is insensitive to pileup density and improves the average vertex selection efficiency from 86% to 95% under tight VBF event selection cuts.

ATLAS Sensitivity to Leptoquarks, W_R and Heavy Majorana Neutrinos in Final States with High-pt Dileptons and Jets with Early LHC Data at 14 TeV proton-proton collisions
The production of exclusive $γγ\rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$ events in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb$^{-1}$. The measurement is performed for a dimuon invariant mass of 12 GeV $<m_{μ^+μ^-}<$ 70 GeV. The integrated cross-section is determined within a fiducial acceptance region of the ATLAS detector and differential cross-sections are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The results are compared to theoretical predictions that include corrections…
Search for squarks and gluinos with the ATLAS detector in final states with jets and missing transverse momentum using 20.3 $fb^{-1}$ of $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV proton-proton collision data
A review of the searches for the SM Higgs boson produced in association with a pair of top quarks, ${t\bar{t}H}$, using up to 13.3 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. Searches in the diphoton, multilepton and $b\bar{b}$ decay channels are summarised. The combination of these searches yields a measured (expected) significance for the observation of the ${t\bar{t}H}$ production process of $2.8 σ$ ($1.8 σ$).
We present a search for new high mass phenomena using the latest data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. The search is conducted for both resonant and non-resonant new phenomena in dimuon final states. The dimuon invariant mass spectrum is the discriminating variable used in the search. No significant deviations from the Standard Model expectation are observed. Lower limits are set on the signal parameters of interest at 95% credibility level, using a Bayesian interpretation. In particular, a Sequential Standard Model Z' resonanc…
Search for a light Higgs boson decaying to long-lived weakly-interacting particles in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Search for events with large missing transverse momentum, jets, and at least two tau leptons in 7 TeV proton-proton collision data with the ATLAS detector
The luminosity determination for the ATLAS detector at the LHC during pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV in 2012 is presented. The evaluation of the luminosity scale is performed using several luminometers, and comparisons between these luminosity detectors are made to assess the accuracy, consistency and long-term stability of the results. A luminosity uncertainty of dL/L = +/- 1.9% is obtained for the 22.7 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collision data delivered to ATLAS at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV in 2012.
Search for supersymmetric particles in events with lepton pairs and large missing transverse momentum in sqrt{s} = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS experiment
These proceedings present the first observation of single top-quark production associated with a photon using the full Run2 proton-proton dataset collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC.
Results of dedicated Monte Carlo simulations of beam-induced background (BIB) in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are presented and compared with data recorded in 2012. During normal physics operation this background arises mainly from scattering of the 4 TeV protons on residual gas in the beam pipe. Methods of reconstructing the BIB signals in the ATLAS detector, developed and implemented in the simulation chain based on the FLUKA Monte Carlo simulation package, are described. The interaction rates are determined from the residual gas pressure distribution in the LHC ri…
