Polarization operator approach to electron-positron pair production in combined laser and Coulomb fields

The optical theorem is applied to the process of electron-positron pair creation in the superposition of a nuclear Coulomb and a strong laser field. We derive new representations for the total production rate as two-fold integrals, both for circular laser polarization and for the general case of elliptic polarization, which has not been treated before. Our approach allows us to obtain by analytical means the asymptotic behaviour of the pair creation rate for various limits of interest. Effects of electric field polarizations on pair production

The effects of electric field polarizations on pair production from a vacuum are investigated numerically by employing the real-time Dirac-Heisenberg-Wigner formalism. For few-cycle fields, it is found that the interference pattern in momentum spectra is absent and the circular distortion of momentum distribution becomes more apparent with the increase of polarization. For multi-cycle fields, it is found that the interference effects in momentum spectra are obvious. Nonperturbative signatures in pair production for general elliptic polarization fields

The momentum signatures in nonperturbative multiphoton pair production for general elliptic polarization electric fields are investigated by employing the real-time Dirac-Heisenberg-Wigner formalism. For a linearly polarized electric field we find that the positions of the nodes in momenta spectra of created pairs depend only on the electric field frequency. Complete description of polarization effects in e^+e^- pair production by a photon in the field of a strong laser wave

We consider production of a e^+e^- pair by a high-energy photon in the field of a strong laser wave. A probability of this process for circularly or linearly polarized laser photons and for arbitrary polarization of all other particles is calculated. We obtain the complete set of functions which describe such a probability in a compact invariant form. Besides, we discuss in some detail the polarization effects in the kinematics relevant to the problem of electron-photon conversion at photon-photon and electron-photon colliders.

Polarized positron production at MeV electron accelerators

The Polarized Electrons for Polarized Positrons (PEPPo) experiment has demonstrated the efficient transfer of polarization from electrons to positrons produced by the bremsstrahlung radiation of a polarized electron beam in a high-$Z$ target. Positron polarization up to 82\% has been measured for an initial electron beam momentum of 8.19 MeV/$c$, limited only by the electron beam polarization.
