We initiate a study of non-supersymmetric Born-Infeld electrodynamics in 4d at the quantum level. Explicit all-multiplicity expressions are calculated for the purely rational one-loop amplitudes in the self-dual ($++\ldots+$) and next-to-self-dual ($-+\ldots+$) helicity sectors. Using a supersymmetric decomposition, $d$-dimensional unitarity cuts of the integrand factorize into tree-amplitudes in a 4d model of Born-Infeld photons coupled to a massive complex scalar. The two-scalar tree-amplitudes needed to construct the Born-Infeld integrand are computed using two complimentary approaches: (1) as a double-copy of Yang-Mills coupled to a massive adjoint scalar with a dimensionally reduced form of Chiral Perturbation Theory, and (2) by imposing consistency with low-energy theorems under a reduction from 4d to 3d and T-duality. The Born-Infeld integrand is integrated in $d=4-2ε$ dimensions at order $\mathcal{O}(ε^0)$ using the dimension-shifting formalism. We comment on the implications for electromagnetic duality in quantum Born-Infeld theory.
In this paper, we have analytically computed the conductivity of holographic superconductors in the framework of Born-Infeld electrodynamics taking into account the backreaction of the matter fields on the bulk spacetime metric. The effect of the Born-Infeld electrodynamics is incorporated in the metric. The band gap energy is found to be corrected by the backreaction and Born-Infeld parameters. The conductivity expression is then compared with that obtained from a self consistent approach.
All solutions of the no-birefringence conditions for nonlinear electrodynamics are found. In addition to the known Born-Infeld and Plebanski cases, we find a ``reverse Born-Infeld'' case, which has a limit to Plebanski, and an ``extreme-Born-Infeld'' case, which arises as a Lagrangian constraint. Only Born-Infeld has a weak-field limit, and only Born-Infeld and extreme-Born Infeld avoid superluminal propagation in constant electromagnetic backgrounds, but all cases have a conformal strong-field limit that coincides with the strong-field limit of Born-Infeld found by Bialynicki-Birula.
In this paper, we have investigated the Meissner effect of holographic superconductors in the presence of Dirac-Born-Infeld electrodynamics. The matching method is applied to obtain the critical magnetic field and the critical temperature. The critical magnetic field obtained from this investigation shows the effects of the DBI parameter $b$ and differs from that obtained from Born electrodynamics because of the extra $\vec{E}.\vec{B}$ term in the Dirac-Born-Infeld theory. It is observed that the critical magnetic field increases in Dirac-Born-Infeld theory compared to that in the Born theory.
In 1934, Max Born and Leopold Infeld suggested and developed a nonlinear modification of Maxwell electrodynamics, in which the electrostatic self-energy of an electron was a finite value. In this paper, after a brief introduction to Lagrangian formulation of Born-Infeld electrodynamics with an external source, the explicit forms of Gauss's law and the electrostatic energy density in Born-Infeld theory are obtained. The capacitance and the stored electrostatic energy for a parallel-plate and spherical capacitors are computed in the framework of Born-Infeld electrostatics. We show that the usual…
We construct a class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship in four dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld theory with asymptotically anti-de Sitter boundary conditions, and investigate the effect of the Born-Infeld parameter $b$ in comparison with the counterpart of Einstein-Maxwell theory. When a charged massive scalar field is included into the action, we find that this class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship would be removed if the charge of scalar fields is above the minimum value of charge $q_{min}$. In particular, the minimum value of charge required to preserve cosmic censorship incre…
We study vortex solutions in the Born-Infeld theory coupled with a complex scalar field. We show that for a specific form of the "Higgs" potential the vortex satisfies a set of Bogomol'nyi-type equations. Another model, with nonlinear interaction between gauge and Higgs fields, is also considered. We show how it is derived from a supersymmetric extension of the Born-Infeld theory with a minimally coupled complex scalar field.
We present a Born-Infeld gravity theory based on generalizations of Maxwell symmetries denoted as $\mathfrak{C}_{m}$. We analyze different configuration limits allowing to recover diverse Lovelock gravity actions in six dimensions. Further, the generalization to higher even dimensions is also considered.
