The fast forward scheme of adiabatic quantum dynamics is applied to finite regular spin clusters with various geometries and the nature of driving interactions is elucidated. The fast forward is the quasi-adiabatic dynamics guaranteed by regularization terms added to the reference Hamiltonian, followed by a rescaling of time with use of a large scaling factor. With help of the regularization terms consisting of pair-wise and 3-body interactions, we apply the proposed formula (Phys. Rev.A 96, 052106(2017)) to regular triangle and open linear chain for N = 3 spin systems, and to triangular pyramid, square, primary star graph and open linear chain for N = 4 spin systems. The geometry-induced symmetry greatly decreases the rank of coefficient matrix of the linear algebraic equation for regularization terms. Choosing a transverse Ising Hamiltonian as a reference, we find: (1) for N = 3 spin clusters, the driving interaction consists of only the geometry-dependent pairwise interactions and there is no need for the 3-body interaction; (2) for N = 4 spin clusters, the geometry-dependent pair-wise interactions again constitute major part of the driving interaction, whereas the universal 3-body interaction free from the geometry is necessary but plays a subsidiary role. Our scheme predicts the practical driving interaction in accelerating the adiabatic quantum dynamics of structured regular spin clusters.
A method for high-fidelity coherent adiabatic transport in a zig-zag tight-binding chain, based on application of two external periodic driving fields, is theoretically proposed. The method turns out to be robust against imperfections and disorder of the static lattice Hamiltonian, is tolerant to next-nearest neighborhood interactions, and enables coherent transport in long chains without the need for a local control and timing of the trapping potential.
Shortcut to adiabaticity in various quantum systems has attracted much attention with the wide applications in quantum information processing and quantum control. In this paper, we concentrate on stimulated Raman shortcut-to-adiabatic passage in quantum three-level systems. To implement counter-diabatic driving but without additional coupling, we first reduce the quantum three-level systems to effective two-level problems at large intermediate-level detuning, or on resonance, apply counter-diabatic driving along with the unitary transformation, and eventually modify the pump and Stokes pulses …
We discussed a method to accelerate an adiabatic quantum dynamics of XY spin model by using the fast-forward method proposed by Masuda and Nakamura. The Accelerated scheme is constructed by adding the driving Hamiltonian to the original Hamiltonian and speeding it up with a large time-scaling factor and an adiabatic parameter that realizes adiabatic quantum dynamics in a shortened time. Accelerated adiabatic dynamics start by assuming the candidate of driving Hamiltonian consists of the pair-wise exchange interaction and magnetic field. The driving Hamiltonian terms multiplied by the velocity …
Shortcut to adiabaticity (STA) is a speed way to produce the same final state that would result in an adiabatic, infinitely slow process. Two typical techniques to engineer STA are developed by either introducing auxiliary counterdiabatic fields or finding new Hamiltonians that own dynamical invariants to constraint the system into the adiabatic paths. In this paper, a consistent method is introduced to naturally connect the above two techniques with a unified Lie algebraic framework, which neatly removes the requirements of finding instantaneous states in the transitionless driving method and…
Berry's approach on "transitionless quantum driving" shows how to set a Hamiltonian which drives the dynamics of a system along instantaneous eigenstates of a reference Hamiltonian to reproduce the same final result of an adiabatic process in a shorter time. In this paper, motivated by transitionless quantum driving, we construct shortcuts to adiabatic passage in a three-atom system to create the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states with the help of quantum Zeno dynamics and of non-resonant lasers. The influence of various decoherence processes is discussed by numerical simulation and the result…
In fast forward quantum shortcuts to adiabaticity, a designed potential $U_{FF}(q,t)$ steers a wavefunction to evolve from the $n$'th eigenstate of an initial Hamiltonian $\hat H(0)$ to the $n$'th eigenstate of a final Hamiltonian $\hat H(τ)$, in finite time $τ$. Previously proposed strategies for constructing $U_{FF}$ are (in the absence of special symmetries) limited to the ground state, $n=0$. We develop a method that overcomes this limitation, thereby substantially expanding the applicability of this shortcut to adiabaticity, and we illustrate its effectiveness with numerical simulations. …
The preparation of ground states of spin systems is a fundamental operation in quantum computing and serves as the basis of adiabatic quantum computing. This form of quantum computation is subject to the adiabatic theorem which in turn poses a fundamental speed limit. We show that by employing diabatic transitions via counter diabatic driving a less strict requirement on adiabaticity applies. We demonstrate a scaling advantage from local and multi-spin counter diabatic driving in the ground-state fidelity compared to their adiabatic counterpart, for different Ising spin models.
Universal speeded-up adiabatic geometric quantum computation~(SAGQC) is studied in $Λ$-type three-level system with different coupling cases, i.e., time-dependent detuning, large detuning and one-photon resonance couplings, respectively. In these cases, the counterdiabatic driving method is used to speed up the universal quantum computation. These schemes in $Λ$-type three-level system are feasible in experiment because additional unaccessible ground-state-coupling is not needed. Only the shapes and phases of the initial adiabatic classical-field pulse are modified with the aid of effective tw…
The "fast-forward" approach by Masuda and Nakamura generates driving potentials to accelerate slow quantum adiabatic dynamics. First we present a streamlined version of the formalism that produces the main results in a few steps. Then we show the connection between this approach and inverse engineering based on Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants. We identify in this manner applications in which the engineered potential does not depend on the initial state. Finally we discuss more general applications exemplified by wave splitting processes.
In this paper, we propose an efficient scheme to drive three atoms in an optical cavity into a singlet state via adiabatic passage. Appropriate Rabi frequencies of the classical fields are selected to realize the present scheme. The scheme is robust against deviations in the pulse delay and laser intensity through some simple analysis of the adiabatic condition. It is notable that the estimated range of the effective adiabaticity condition coincides with the numerical results. When taking dissipation into account, we show that the process is immune to atomic spontaneous emission as the atomic …
In this paperwe propose two theoretical schemes for implementation of quantum phase gates by engineering the phase-sensitive dark state of two atoms subjected to Rydberg-Rydberg interaction. Combining the conventional adiabatic techniques and currently developed approaches of phase control, a feasible proposal for implementation of a geometric phase gate is presented, where the conditional phase shift (Berry phase) is achieved by adiabatically and cyclically changing the parameters of the driving fields. Here we find that the geometric phase acquired is related to the way how the relative phas…
Motivated by transitionless quantum driving, we construct shortcuts to adiabatic passage in a three-atom system to create a singlet state with the help of quantum zeno dynamics and non-resonant lasers. The influence of various decoherence processes is discussed by numerical simulation and the results reveal that the scheme is fast and robust against decoherence and operational imperfection. We also investigate how to select the experimental parameters to control the cavity dissipation and atomic spontaneous emission which will have an application value in experiment.
We develop a scheme of fast forward of adiabatic spin dynamics of quantum entangled states. We settle the quasi-adiabatic dynamics by adding the regularization terms to the original Hamiltonian and then accelerate it with use of a large time-scaling factor. Assuming the experimentally-realizable candidate Hamiltonian consisting of the exchange interactions and magnetic field, we solved the regularization terms. These terms multiplied by the velocity function give rise to the state-dependent counter-diabatic terms. The scheme needs neither knowledge of full spectral properties of the system nor…
By developing the preceding work on the fast forward of transient phenomena of quantum tunneling by Khujakulov and Nakamura (Phys. Rev. {\bf A 93}, 022101 (2016) ), we propose a scheme of the exact fast forward of adiabatic control of stationary tunneling states with use of the electromagnetic field. The idea allows the acceleration of both the amplitude and phase of wave functions throughout the fast-forward time range. The scheme realizes the fast-forward observation of the transport coefficients under the adiabatically-changing barrier with the fixed energy of an incoming particle. As typic…
Shortcuts to adiabaticity are well-known methods for controlling the quantum dynamics beyond the adiabatic criteria, where counter-diabatic (CD) driving provides a promising means to speed up quantum many-body systems. In this work, we show the applicability of CD driving to enhance the digitized adiabatic quantum computing paradigm in terms of fidelity and total simulation time. We study the state evolution of an Ising spin chain using the digitized version of the standard CD driving and its variants derived from the variational approach. We apply this technique in the preparation of Bell and…
Adiabatic processes are important for studying the dynamics of a time-dependent system. Conventionally, the adiabatic processes can only be achieved by varying the system slowly. We speed up both classical and quantum adiabatic processes by adding control protocols. In classical systems, we work out the control protocols by analyzing the classical adiabatic approximation. In quantum systems, we follow the idea of transitionless driving by Berry [J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. Vol.42 365303 (2009)]. Such fast-forward adiabatic processes can be performed at arbitrary fast speed, and in the meanwhile r…
Speeding up adiabatic method has attracted much attention with the wide applications in quantum information processing. In this paper, two kinds of methods, Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant-based inverse engineering and transitionless quantum driving are applied to implement speeding up adiabatic state conversion in optomechanical system. The perfect population transfer can be achieved within a short time. At last, the energetic cost is analysed for the transitionless quantum driving.
The application of adiabatic protocols in quantum technologies is severely limited by environmental sources of noise and decoherence. Shortcuts to adiabaticity by counterdiabatic driving constitute a powerful alternative that speed up time-evolution while mimicking adiabatic dynamics. Here we present the first experimental implementation of counterdiabatic driving in a continuous variable system, a shortcut to the adiabatic transport of a trapped ion in the phase space. The resulting dynamics is equivalent to a "fast-motion video" of the adiabatic trajectory. The robustness of this protocol is…

Quantum adiabatic evolution is a dynamical evolution of a quantum system under slow external driving. According to the quantum adiabatic theorem, no transitions occur between non-degenerate instantaneous eigen-energy levels in such a dynamical evolution. However, this is true only when the driving rate is infinitesimally small. For a small nonzero driving rate, there are generally small transition probabilities between the energy levels. We develop a classical mechanics framework to address the small deviations from the quantum adiabatic theorem order by order. A hierarchy of Hamiltonians are …
It is known that high intensity fields are usually required to implement shortcuts to adiabaticity via Transitionless Quantum Driving (TQD). Here, we show that this requirement can be relaxed by exploiting the gauge freedom of generalized TQD, which is expressed in terms of an arbitrary phase when mimicking the adiabatic evolution. We experimentally investigate the performance of generalized TQD in comparison with both traditional TQD and adiabatic dynamics. By using a $^{171}$Yb$^+$ trapped ion hyperfine qubit, we implement a Landau-Zener adiabatic Hamiltonian and its (traditional and general…
We propose a quantum speedup method for adiabatic generation of cat states in bosonic Josephson junctions via shortcuts to adiabaticity. We apply approximated counter-diabatic driving to a bosonic Josephson junction using the Holstein-Primakoff transformation. In order to avoid the problem of divergence in counter-diabatic driving, we take finite-size corrections into account. The resulting counter-diabatic driving is well-defined over whole processes. Schedules of the counter-diabatic driving consist of three steps; the counter-diabatic driving in the disordered phase, smoothly and slowly app…
Quantum battery is an emerging subject in the field of quantum thermodynamics, which is applied to charge, store and dispatch energy in quantum systems. In this work, we propose a fast and stable charging protocol based on the adiabatic evolution for the dark state of a three-level quantum battery. It combines the conventional stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) and the quantum transitionless driving technique. The charging process can be accelerated up to nearly one order in magnitude even under constraint of the strength of counter-diabatic driving. To perform the charging protocol i…
We study quantum dynamics of Grover's adiabatic search algorithm with the equivalent two-level system. Its adiabatic and non-adiabatic evolutions are visualized as trajectories of Bloch vectors on a Bloch sphere. We find the change in the non-adiabatic transition probability from exponential decay for short running time to inverse-square decay for long running time. The size dependence of the critical running time is expressed in terms of Lambert $W$ function. The transitionless driving Hamiltonian is obtained to make a quantum state follow the adiabatic path. We demonstrate that a constant Ha…
A shortcut to adiabaticity is a driving protocol that reproduces in a short time the same final state that would result from an adiabatic, infinitely slow process. A powerful technique to engineer such shortcuts relies on the use of auxiliary counterdiabatic fields. Determining the explicit form of the required fields has generally proven to be complicated. We present explicit counterdiabatic driving protocols for scale-invariant dynamical processes, which describe for instance expansion and transport. To this end, we use the formalism of generating functions, and unify previous approaches ind…
Envariance is a symmetry exhibited by correlated quantum systems. Inspired by this "quantum fact of life," we propose a novel method for shortcuts to adiabaticity which enables the system to evolve through the adiabatic manifold at all times, solely by controlling the environment. As main results, we construct the unique form of the driving on the environment that enables such dynamics, for a family of composite states of arbitrary dimension. We compare the cost of this environment-assisted technique with that of counterdiabatic driving, and we illustrate our results for a two-qubit model.
High performance quantum information processing requires efficient control of undesired decohering effects, which are present in realistic quantum dynamics. To deal with this issue, a powerful strategy is to employ transitionless quantum driving (TQD), where additional fields are added to speed up the evolution of the quantum system, achieving a desired state in a short time in comparison with the natural decoherence time scales. In this paper, we provide an experimental investigation of the performance of a generalized approach for TQD to implement shortcuts to adiabaticity in nuclear magneti…
We introduce an inhomogeneous protocol to drive a weakly disordered quantum spin chain quasi-adiabatically across a quantum phase transition and minimize the residual energy of the final state. The number of spins that simultaneously reach the critical point is controlled by the length scale in which the magnetic field is modulated, introducing an effective size that favors adiabatic dynamics. The dependence of the residual energy on this length scale and the velocity at which the magnetic field sweeps out the chain is shown to be nonmonotonic. We determine the conditions for an optimal suppre…
By using transitionless quantum driving algorithm (TQDA), we present an efficient scheme for the shortcuts to the holonomic quantum computation (HQC). It works in decoherence-free subspace (DFS) and the adiabatic process can be speeded up in the shortest possible time. More interestingly, we give a physical implementation for our shortcuts to HQC with nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamonds dispersively coupled to a whispering-gallery mode microsphere cavity. It can be efficiently realized by controlling appropriately the frequencies of the external laser pulses. Also, our scheme has good scalabi…
We investigate theoretically and numerically the light-matter interaction in a two-level system (TLS) as a model system for excitation in a solid-state band structure. We identify five clearly distinct excitation regimes, categorized with well-known adiabaticity parameters: (1) the perturbative multiphoton absorption regime for small driving field strengths, and four light field-driven regimes, where intraband motion connects different TLS: (2) the impulsive Landau-Zener (LZ) regime, (3) the non-impulsive LZ regime, (4) the adiabatic regime and (5) the adiabatic-impulsive regime for large elec…
We review methods to shuttle quantum particles fast and robustly. Ideal robustness amounts to the invariance of the desired transport results with respect to deviations, noisy or otherwise, from the nominal driving protocol for the control parameters; this can include environmental perturbations. "Fast" is defined with respect to adiabatic transport times. Special attention is paid to shortcut-to-adiabaticity protocols that achieve, in faster-than-adiabatic times, the same results of slow adiabatic driving.
A general approach for transitionless quantum driving in open quantum systems is introduced. Under the assumption of adiabatic evolution for time-local master equations, we derive the generalized transitionless Lindbladian required to implement a shortcut to adiabaticity in an open system scenario. The general counter-diabatic Lindbladian obtained accounts for a phase freedom, which translates into a set of free parameters throughout the dynamics. We then discuss how our generalized approach allows us to recover the transitionless Lindbladian introduced by G. Vacanti et al. [New J. Phys. 16, 0…
Approximate counterdiabatic (CD) protocols are a powerful tool to enhance quantum adiabatic processes that allow to reliably manipulate quantum systems on short time scales. However, implementing CD protocols entails the introduction of additional control fields in the Hamiltonian, often associated with highly non-local multi-body interactions. Here, we introduce a novel variational rotated ansatz (RA) to systematically generate experimentally accessible approximate CD protocols. We numerically benchmark our approach on state preparation and adiabatic quantum computing algorithms, and find tha…
A practical quantum computer must be capable of performing high fidelity quantum gates on a set of quantum bits (qubits). In the presence of noise, the realization of such gates poses daunting challenges. Geometric phases, which possess intrinsic noise-tolerant features, hold the promise for performing robust quantum computation. In particular, quantum holonomies, i.e., non-Abelian geometric phases, naturally lead to universal quantum computation due to their non-commutativity. Although quantum gates based on adiabatic holonomies have already been proposed, the slow evolution eventually compro…
We consider the dynamics of a two-level system (qubit) driven by strong and short resonant pulses in the framework of Floquet theory. First we derive analytical expressions for the quasienergies and Floquet states of the driven system. If the pulse amplitude varies very slowly, the system adiabatically follows the instantaneous Floquet states, which acquire dynamical phases that depend on the evolution of the quasienergies over time. The difference between the phases acquired by the two Floquet states corresponds to a qubit state rotation, generalizing the notion of Rabi oscillations to the ca…
Single photon source is one of the key devices for optical quantum information processing. Differing from the usual stimulated Raman adiabatic passage to obtain single-photon radiation, here we propose an approach to produce optical Fock state on demand in the usual atom-cavity system by utilizing the technique of transitionless quantum driving. The present proposal effectively suppresses the unwanted but practically unavoidable nonadiabatic transitions in the previous adiabatic schemes. Therefore, the efficiency of Fock state production by the present technique could be significantly high, ev…
Recently, a novel three-dimensional entangled state called tree-type entanglement, which is likely to have applications for improving quantum communication security, was prepared via adiabatic passage by Song et al. [Phys. Rev. A 93, 062321 (2016)]. Here we propose two schemes for fast generations of tree-type three-dimensional entanglement among three spatially separated atoms via shortcuts to adiabatic passage. With the help of quantum Zeno dynamics, two kinds of different but equivalent methods, Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants and transitionless quantum driving, are applied to construct shortcu…
In this thesis, it is presented a set of results in adiabatic dynamics (closed and open system) and transitionless quantum driving that promote some advances in our understanding on quantum control and Hamiltonian inverse engineering. In the context of adiabatic dynamics in closed systems, it is introduced a validation mechanism for the adiabaticity conditions by studing the system dynamics from a non-inertial reference frame. By considering a decohering scenario, validity conditions of the adiabatic approximation are also studied. As a fresh general result with potential applications, it is s…
The dynamics of a periodically driven system whose time evolution is governed by the Schrödinger equation with non-Hermitian Hamiltonians can be perfectly stable. This finding was only obtained very recently and will be enhanced by many exact solutions discovered in this work. The main concern of this study is to investigate the adiabatic following dynamics in such non-Hermitian systems stabilized by periodic driving. We focus on the peculiar behaviour of stable cyclic (Floquet) states in the slow-driving limit. It is found that the stable cyclic states can either behave as intuitively expecte…
The treatment of time-dependent dynamics of quantum systems involving multiple states poses considerable technical challenges. One of the most efficient approaches in treating such systems is the Morris-Shore (MS) transformation which decomposes the multistate dynamics to a set of independent systems of simpler interaction pattern and uncoupled spectator states. The standard MS transformation imposes restrictions on the time dependence of the external fields addressing the states, as it requires that both Rabi frequencies have the same time profile. In this work we treat the case of the time-d…
The superadiabatic quantum driving, producing a perfect adiabatic transfer on a given Hamitonian by introducing an additional Hamiltonian, is theoretically analysed for transfers within a three-level system. Our starting point is the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage, realized through different schemes of laser pulses. We determine the superadiabatic correction for each scheme. The fidelity, robustness and transfer time of all the superadiabatic transfer schemes are discussed. We derive that all superadiabatic corrections are based on a $π$- (or near-$π$)-area pulse coupling between the initi…
Adiabatic quantum state evolution can be accelerated through a variety of shortcuts to adiabaticity. In one approach, a counterdiabatic quantum Hamiltonian $\hat H_{CD}$ is constructed to suppress nonadiabatic excitations. In the analogous classical problem, a counterdiabatic classical Hamiltonian $H_{CD}$ ensures that the classical action remains constant even under rapid driving. Both the quantum and classical versions of this problem have been solved for the special case of scale-invariant driving, characterized by linear expansions, contractions or translations of the system. Here we inves…
We propose a scheme for sensing of an oscillating field in systems with large inhomogeneous broadening and driving field variation by applying sequences of phased, adiabatic, chirped pulses. The latter act as a double filter for dynamical decoupling, where the adiabatic changes of the mixing angle during the pulses rectify the signal and partially remove frequency noise. The sudden changes between the pulses act as instantaneous $π$ pulses in the adiabatic basis for additional noise suppression. We also use the pulses' phases to correct for other errors, e.g., due to non-adiabatic couplings. O…
