Veneroni maps

Veneroni maps are a class of birational transformations of projective spaces. This class contains the classical Cremona transformation of the plane, the cubo-cubic transformation of the space and the quatro-quartic transformation of $\mathbb{P}^4$. Their common feature is that they are determined by linear systems of forms of degree $n$ vanishing along $n+1$ general flats of codimension $2$ in $\mathbb{P}^n$. They have appeared recently in a work devoted to the so called unexpected hypersurfaces. The purpose of this work is to refresh the collective memory of the mathematical community about these somewhat forgotten transformations and to provide an elementary description of their basic properties given from a modern point of view.

Monomial Cremona transformations and toric polar maps

Given a birational map in the three dimensional projective space defined by monomials of degree $d$, we prove that its inverse is defined by monomials of degree at most $d^2-d+1$.

Classification of the monomial Cremona transformations of the plane

We classify all monomial planar Cremona maps by multidegree using recent methods developed by Aluffi. Following the main result, we prove several more properties of the set of these maps, and also extend the results to the more general `r.c. monomial' maps.

The group of Cremona transformations generated by linear maps and the standard involution

This article studies the group generated by automorphisms of the projective space of dimension $n$ and by the standard birational involution of degree $n$. Every element of this group only contracts rational hypersurfaces, but in odd dimension, there are simple elements having this property which do not belong to the group. Geometric properties of the elements of the group are given, as well as a description of its intersection with monomial transformations.

Inversion maps and torus actions on rational homogeneous varieties

Complex projective algebraic varieties with $\mathbb{C}^*$-actions can be thought of as geometric counterparts of birational transformations. In this paper we describe geometrically the birational transformations associated to rational homogeneous varieties endowed with a $\mathbb{C}^*$-action with no proper isotropy subgroups.

New Class of Integrable Maps of the Plane: Manin Transformations with Involution Curves

For cubic pencils we define the notion of an involution curve. This is a curve which intersects each curve of the pencil in exactly one non-base point of the pencil. Involution curves can be used to construct integrable maps of the plane which leave invariant a cubic pencil.

Bijective Cremona transformations of the plane

We study the birational self-maps of the projective plane over finite fields that induce permutations on the set of rational points. As a main result, we prove that no odd permutation arises over a non-prime finite field of characteristic two, which completes the investigation initiated by Cantat about which permutations can be realized this way. Main ingredients in our proof include the invariance of parity under groupoid conjugations by birational maps, and a list of generators for the group of such maps.

Quarto-quartic birational maps of $\mathbb{P}_3(\mathbb{C})$

We construct a determinantal family of quarto-quartic transformations of a complex projective space of dimension $3$ from trigonal curves of degree $8$ and genus $5$. Moreover we show that the variety of $(4,4)$-birational maps of $\mathbb{P}_3(\mathbb{C})$ has at least four irreducible components and describe three of them.

Quadratic Planar Differential Systems with Algebraic Limit Cycles via Quadratic Plane Cremona Maps

In this paper we show how we can transform quadratic systems into new quadratic systems after some kind of birational transformations, the quadratic plane Cremona maps. On special quadratic birational transformations of a projective space into a hypersurface

We study transformations as in the title with emphasis on those having smooth connected base locus, called "special". In particular, we classify all special quadratic birational maps into a quadric hypersurface whose inverse is given by quadratic forms by showing that there are only four examples having general hyperplane sections of Severi varieties as base loci.

Remarks on the degree growth of birational transformations

We look at sequences of positive integers that can be realized as degree sequences of iterates of rational dominant maps of smooth projective varieties over arbitrary fields. New constraints on the degree growth of endomorphisms of the affine space and examples of degree sequences are displayed. Backlund transformations for finite-dimensional integrable systems: a geometric approach

We present a geometric construction of Backlund transformations and discretizations for a large class of algebraic completely integrable systems. To be more precise, we construct families of Backlund transformations, which are naturally parametrized by the points on the spectral curve(s) of the system.
