A new method to improve the performance of Random weight change (RWC) algorithm based on a simple genetic algorithm, namely, Genetic random weight change (GRWC) is proposed. It is to find the optimal values of global minima via learning. In contrast to Random Weight Change (RWC), GRWC contains an effective optimization procedure which are good at exploring a large and complex space in an intellectual strategies influenced by the GA/RWC synergy. By implementing our simple GA in RWC we achieve an astounding accuracy of finding global minima.
We present an automatic multilayer power plane generation method to accelerate the design of printed circuit boards (PCB). In PCB design, while automatic solvers have been developed to predict important indicators such as the IR-drop, power integrity, and signal integrity, the generation of the power plane itself still largely relies on laborious manual methods. Our automatic power plane generation approach is based on genetic optimization combined with a multilayer perceptron and is able to automatically generate power planes across a diverse set of problems with varying levels of difficulty.…
The paper presents a solution for the problem of choosing a method for analytical determining of weight factors for a genetic algorithm additive fitness function. This algorithm is the basis for an evolutionary process, which forms a stable and effective query population in a search engine to obtain highly relevant results. The paper gives a formal description of an algorithm fitness function, which is a weighted sum of three heterogeneous criteria. The selected methods for analytical determining of weight factors are described in detail. It is noted that expert assessment methods are impossib…

We consider the optimization problem of constructing a binary orthogonal array (OA) starting from a bigger one, by removing a specified amount of lines. In particular, we develop a genetic algorithm (GA) where the underlying chromosomes are constant-weight binary strings that specify the lines to be cancelled from the starting OA. Such chromosomes are then evolved through balanced crossover and mutation operators to preserve the number of ones in them. The fitness function evaluates the matrices obtained from these chromosomes by measuring their distance from satisfying the constraints of an O…
Gradual argumentation frameworks represent arguments and their relationships in a weighted graph. Their graphical structure and intuitive semantics makes them a potentially interesting tool for interpretable machine learning. It has been noted recently that their mechanics are closely related to neural networks, which allows learning their weights from data by standard deep learning frameworks. As a first proof of concept, we propose a genetic algorithm to simultaneously learn the structure of argumentative classification models. To obtain a well interpretable model, the fitness function balan…
When training Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) there is a large emphasis on creating efficient optimization algorithms and highly accurate networks. The state-of-the-art method of optimizing the networks is done by using gradient descent algorithms, such as Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). However, there are some limitations presented when using gradient descent methods. The major drawback is the lack of exploration, and over-reliance on exploitation. Hence, this research aims to analyze an alternative approach to optimizing neural network (NN) weights, with the use of population-based m…

Neuroevolution has recently been shown to be quite competitive in reinforcement learning (RL) settings, and is able to alleviate some of the drawbacks of gradient-based approaches. This paper will focus on applying neuroevolution using a simple genetic algorithm (GA) to find the weights of a neural network that produce optimally behaving agents. In addition, we present two novel modifications that improve the data efficiency and speed of convergence when compared to the initial implementation. The modifications are evaluated on the FrozenLake environment provided by OpenAI gym and prove to be …
In this paper we investigate the relationships between a multipreferential semantics for defeasible reasoning in knowledge representation and a deep neural network model. Weighted knowledge bases for description logics are considered under a "concept-wise" multipreference semantics. The semantics is further extended to fuzzy interpretations and exploited to provide a preferential interpretation of Multilayer Perceptrons.
The spiking neural network (SNN) has been attracting considerable attention not only as a mathematical model for the brain, but also as an energy-efficient information processing model for real-world applications. In particular, SNNs based on temporal coding are expected to be much more efficient than those based on rate coding, because the former requires substantially fewer spikes to carry out tasks. As SNNs are continuous-state and continuous-time models, it is favorable to implement them with analog VLSI circuits. However, the construction of the entire system with continuous-time analog c…

Our goal in this paper is to automatically extract a set of decision rules (rule set) that best explains a classification data set. First, a large set of decision rules is extracted from a set of decision trees trained on the data set. The rule set should be concise, accurate, have a maximum coverage and minimum number of inconsistencies. This problem can be formalized as a modified version of the weighted budgeted maximum coverage problem, known to be NP-hard. To solve the combinatorial optimization problem efficiently, we introduce a nested genetic algorithm which we then use to derive expla…
We create an artificial system of agents (attention-based neural networks) which selectively exchange messages with each-other in order to study the emergence of memetic evolution and how memetic evolutionary pressures interact with genetic evolution of the network weights. We observe that the ability of agents to exert selection pressures on each-other is essential for memetic evolution to bootstrap itself into a state which has both high-fidelity replication of memes, as well as continuing production of new memes over time. However, in this system there is very little interaction between thi…
