Human pose estimation has witnessed a significant advance thanks to the development of deep learning. Recent human pose estimation approaches tend to directly predict the location heatmaps, which causes quantization errors and inevitably deteriorates the performance within the reduced network output. Aim at solving it, we revisit the heatmap-offset aggregation method and propose the Offset-guided Network (OGN) with an intuitive but effective fusion strategy for both two-stages pose estimation and Mask R-CNN. For two-stages pose estimation, a greedy box generation strategy is also proposed to keep more necessary candidates while performing person detection. For mask R-CNN, ratio-consistent is adopted to improve the generalization ability of the network. State-of-the-art results on COCO and PoseTrack dataset verify the effectiveness of our offset-guided pose estimation and tracking.
Most online multi-object trackers perform object detection stand-alone in a neural net without any input from tracking. In this paper, we present a new online joint detection and tracking model, TraDeS (TRAck to DEtect and Segment), exploiting tracking clues to assist detection end-to-end. TraDeS infers object tracking offset by a cost volume, which is used to propagate previous object features for improving current object detection and segmentation. Effectiveness and superiority of TraDeS are shown on 4 datasets, including MOT (2D tracking), nuScenes (3D tracking), MOTS and Youtube-VIS (insta…
Multi-object tracking (MOT) has made great progress in recent years, but there are still some problems. Most MOT algorithms follow tracking-by-detection framework, which separates detection and tracking into two independent parts. Early tracking-by-detection algorithms need to do two feature extractions for detection and tracking. Recently, some algorithms make the feature extraction into one network, but the tracking part still relies on data association and needs complex post-processing for life cycle management. Those methods do not combine detection and tracking well. In this paper, we pre…

Most modern multiple object tracking (MOT) systems follow the tracking-by-detection paradigm, consisting of a detector followed by a method for associating detections into tracks. There is a long history in tracking of combining motion and appearance features to provide robustness to occlusions and other challenges, but typically this comes with the trade-off of a more complex and slower implementation. Recent successes on popular 2D tracking benchmarks indicate that top-scores can be achieved using a state-of-the-art detector and relatively simple associations relying on single-frame spatial …

This paper focuses on the problem of online golf ball detection and tracking from image sequences. An efficient real-time approach is proposed by exploiting convolutional neural networks (CNN) based object detection and a Kalman filter based prediction. Five classical deep learning-based object detection networks are implemented and evaluated for ball detection, including YOLO v3 and its tiny version, YOLO v4, Faster R-CNN, SSD, and RefineDet. The detection is performed on small image patches instead of the entire image to increase the performance of small ball detection. At the tracking stage…

Deep learning approaches to accelerated MRI take a matrix of sampled Fourier-space lines as input and produce a spatial image as output. In this work we show that by careful choice of the offset used in the sampling procedure, the symmetries in k-space can be better exploited, producing higher quality reconstructions than given by standard equally-spaced samples or randomized samples motivated by compressed sensing.

In video object tracking, there exist rich temporal contexts among successive frames, which have been largely overlooked in existing trackers. In this work, we bridge the individual video frames and explore the temporal contexts across them via a transformer architecture for robust object tracking. Different from classic usage of the transformer in natural language processing tasks, we separate its encoder and decoder into two parallel branches and carefully design them within the Siamese-like tracking pipelines. The transformer encoder promotes the target templates via attention-based feature…
Current state-of-the-art trackers only rely on a target appearance model in order to localize the object in each frame. Such approaches are however prone to fail in case of e.g. fast appearance changes or presence of distractor objects, where a target appearance model alone is insufficient for robust tracking. Having the knowledge about the presence and locations of other objects in the surrounding scene can be highly beneficial in such cases. This scene information can be propagated through the sequence and used to, for instance, explicitly avoid distractor objects and eliminate target candid…
Autonomous systems need to localize and track surrounding objects in 3D space for safe motion planning. As a result, 3D multi-object tracking (MOT) plays a vital role in autonomous navigation. Most MOT methods use a tracking-by-detection pipeline, which includes object detection and data association processing. However, many approaches detect objects in 2D RGB sequences for tracking, which is lack of reliability when localizing objects in 3D space. Furthermore, it is still challenging to learn discriminative features for temporally-consistent detection in different frames, and the affinity mat…

Inspired by the complementarity between conventional frame-based and bio-inspired event-based cameras, we propose a multi-modal based approach to fuse visual cues from the frame- and event-domain to enhance the single object tracking performance, especially in degraded conditions (e.g., scenes with high dynamic range, low light, and fast-motion objects). The proposed approach can effectively and adaptively combine meaningful information from both domains. Our approach's effectiveness is enforced by a novel designed cross-domain attention schemes, which can effectively enhance features based on…

3D single object tracking is a key task in 3D computer vision. However, the sparsity of point clouds makes it difficult to compute the similarity and locate the object, posing big challenges to the 3D tracker. Previous works tried to solve the problem and improved the tracking performance in some common scenarios, but they usually failed in some extreme sparse scenarios, such as for tracking objects at long distances or partially occluded. To address the above problems, in this letter, we propose a sparse-to-dense and transformer-based framework for 3D single object tracking. First, we transfo…

Appearance-based gaze estimation provides relatively unconstrained gaze tracking. However, subject-independent models achieve limited accuracy partly due to individual variations. To improve estimation, we propose a novel gaze decomposition method and a single gaze point calibration method, motivated by our finding that the inter-subject squared bias exceeds the intra-subject variance for a subject-independent estimator. We decompose the gaze angle into a subject-dependent bias term and a subject-independent term between the gaze angle and the bias. The subject-independent term is estimated by…

We present a method for human pose tracking that is based on learning spatiotemporal relationships among joints. Beyond generating the heatmap of a joint in a given frame, our system also learns to predict the offset of the joint from a neighboring joint in the frame. Additionally, it is trained to predict the displacement of the joint from its position in the previous frame, in a manner that can account for possibly changing joint appearance, unlike optical flow. These relational cues in the spatial domain and temporal domain are inferred in a robust manner by attending only to relevant areas…
Tracking multiple objects in real time is essential for a variety of real-world applications, with self-driving industry being at the foremost. This work involves exploiting temporally varying appearance and motion information for tracking. Siamese networks have recently become highly successful at appearance based single object tracking and Recurrent Neural Networks have started dominating both motion and appearance based tracking. Our work focuses on combining Siamese networks and RNNs to exploit appearance and motion information respectively to build a joint system capable of real time mult…

We present a novel algorithm utilizing a deep Siamese neural network as a general object similarity function in combination with a Bayesian optimization (BO) framework to encode spatio-temporal information for efficient object tracking in video. In particular, we treat the video tracking problem as a dynamic (i.e. temporally-evolving) optimization problem. Using Gaussian Process priors, we model a dynamic objective function representing the location of a tracked object in each frame. By exploiting temporal correlations, the proposed method queries the search space in a statistically principled…

Model-based approaches to 3D hand tracking have been shown to perform well in a wide range of scenarios. However, they require initialisation and cannot recover easily from tracking failures that occur due to fast hand motions. Data-driven approaches, on the other hand, can quickly deliver a solution, but the results often suffer from lower accuracy or missing anatomical validity compared to those obtained from model-based approaches. In this work we propose a hybrid approach for hand pose estimation from a single depth image. First, a learned regressor is employed to deliver multiple initial …
The ability to detect and track objects in the visual world is a crucial skill for any intelligent agent, as it is a necessary precursor to any object-level reasoning process. Moreover, it is important that agents learn to track objects without supervision (i.e. without access to annotated training videos) since this will allow agents to begin operating in new environments with minimal human assistance. The task of learning to discover and track objects in videos, which we call \textit{unsupervised object tracking}, has grown in prominence in recent years; however, most architectures that addr…
Visual object tracking is an important application of computer vision. Recently, Siamese based trackers have achieved good accuracy. However, most of Siamese based trackers are not efficient, as they exhaustively search potential object locations to define anchors and then classify each anchor (i.e., a bounding box). This paper develops the first Anchor Free Siamese Network (AFSN). Specifically, a target object is defined by a bounding box center, tracking offset, and object size. All three are regressed by Siamese network with no additional classification or regional proposal, and performed o…

Discriminative Correlation Filters based tracking algorithms exploiting conventional handcrafted features have achieved impressive results both in terms of accuracy and robustness. Template handcrafted features have shown excellent performance, but they perform poorly when the appearance of target changes rapidly such as fast motions and fast deformations. In contrast, statistical handcrafted features are insensitive to fast states changes, but they yield inferior performance in the scenarios of illumination variations and background clutters. In this work, to achieve an efficient tracking per…

Siamese trackers demonstrated high performance in object tracking due to their balance between accuracy and speed. Unlike classification-based CNNs, deep similarity networks are specifically designed to address the image similarity problem, and thus are inherently more appropriate for the tracking task. However, Siamese trackers mainly use the last convolutional layers for similarity analysis and target search, which restricts their performance. In this paper, we argue that using a single convolutional layer as feature representation is not an optimal choice in a deep similarity framework. We …

Most of the existing trackers usually rely on either a multi-scale searching scheme or pre-defined anchor boxes to accurately estimate the scale and aspect ratio of a target. Unfortunately, they typically call for tedious and heuristic configurations. To address this issue, we propose a simple yet effective visual tracking framework (named Siamese Box Adaptive Network, SiamBAN) by exploiting the expressive power of the fully convolutional network (FCN). SiamBAN views the visual tracking problem as a parallel classification and regression problem, and thus directly classifies objects and regres…
More powerful feature representations derived from deep neural networks benefit visual tracking algorithms widely. However, the lack of exploitation on temporal information prevents tracking algorithms from adapting to appearances changing or resisting to drift. This paper proposes a correlation filter based tracking method which aggregates historical features in a spatial-aligned and scale-aware paradigm. The features of historical frames are sampled and aggregated to search frame according to a pixel-level alignment module based on deformable convolutions. In addition, we also use a feature …
