Numerical issues for the 3D travel time tomography problem with non-overdetemined data are considered. Truncated Fourier series with respect to a special orthonormal basis of functions depending on the source position is used. In addition, truncated trigonometric Fourier series with respect to two out of three spatial variables is used. First, the Lipschitz stability estimate is obtained. Next, a globally convergent numerical method is constructed using a Carleman estimate for an integral operator.
The first numerical solution of the 3-D travel time tomography problem is presented. The globally convergent convexification numerical method is applied.
We propose a new numerical method to solve the linearized problem of travel time tomography with incomplete data. Our method is based on the technique of the truncation of the Fourier series with respect to a special basis of L2. This way we derive a boundary value problem for a system of coupled partial diffeerential equations (PDEs) of the first order. This system is solved by the quasi-reversibility method. Hence, the spatially dependent Fourier coefficients of the solution to the linearized Eikonal equation are obtained. The convergence of this method is established. Numerical results for …
This paper introduces a neural network approach for solving two-dimensional traveltime tomography (TT) problems based on the eikonal equation. The mathematical problem of TT is to recover the slowness field of a medium based on the boundary measurement of the traveltimes of waves going through the medium. This inverse map is high-dimensional and nonlinear. For the circular tomography geometry, a perturbative analysis shows that the forward map can be approximated by a vectorized convolution operator in the angular direction. Motivated by this and filtered back-projection, we propose an effecti…
In this paper, we consider the imaging problem of terahertz (THz) tomography, in particular as it appears in non-destructive testing. We derive a nonlinear mathematical model describing a full THz tomography experiment, and consider linear approximations connecting THz tomography with standard computerized tomography and the Radon transform. Based on the derived models we propose different reconstruction approaches for solving the THz tomography problem, which we then compare on experimental data obtained from THz measurements of a plastic sample.
In this paper, we consider linear ill-posed problems in Hilbert spaces and their regularization via frame decompositions, which are generalizations of the singular-value decomposition. In particular, we prove convergence for a general class of continuous regularization methods and derive convergence rates under both a-priori and a-posteriori parameter choice rules. Furthermore, we apply our derived results to a standard tomography problem based on the Radon transform.
Here we present a novel microlocal analysis of a new toric section transform which describes a two dimensional image reconstruction problem in Compton scattering tomography and airport baggage screening. By an analysis of two separate limited data problems for the circle transform and using microlocal analysis, we show that the canonical relation of the toric section transform is 2--1. This implies that there are image artefacts in the filtered backprojection reconstruction. We provide explicit expressions for the expected artefacts and demonstrate these by simulations. In addition, we prove i…
