Integral categories were recently developed as a counterpart to differential categories. In particular, integral categories come equipped with an integration operator, known as an integral transformation, whose axioms generalize the basic integration identities from calculus such as integration by parts. However, the literature on integral categories contains no example that captures integration of arbitrary smooth functions: the closest are examples involving integration of polynomial functions. This paper fills in this gap by developing an example of an integral category whose integral transformation operates on smooth 1-forms. We also provide an alternative viewpoint on the differential structure of this key example, investigate derivations and coderelictions in this context, and prove that free $C^{\infty}$-rings are Rota-Baxter algebras.
In this paper we present the notion of a von Neumann regular $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}-$ring, we prove some results about them and we describe some of their properties. We prove, using two different methods, that the category of von Neumann regular $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}-$rings is a reflective subcategory of $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}{\rm \bf Rng}$. We prove that every homomorphism between Boolean algebras can be represented by a $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}-$ring homomorphism between von Neumann regular $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}-$rings.
In this paper we present classifying toposes for the following theories: the theory of $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}-$rings, the theory of local $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}-$rings and the theory of von Neumann regular $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}-$rings. The classifying toposes for the first two theories were stated without proof by Ieke Moerdijk and Gonzalo Reyes on the page 366 of \cite{MSIA}, where they assert that the topos ${\rm \bf Set}^{\mathcal{C}^{\infty}{\rm \bf Rng}_{\rm fp}}$ classifies the theory of $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}-$rings and that the smooth Zariski topos classifies the theory of local $\mathcal…
$\mathrm{LMod}_{R}(\mathcal{V})$-enriched $\infty$-categories are left $R$-module objects of $\mathcal{C}at^{\mathcal{V}}$ and $\mathcal{C}at^{\mathcal{V}}$-enriched $\infty$-functors
This article is a survey of algebra in the $\infty$-categorical context, as developed by Lurie in "Higher Algebra", and is a chapter in the "Handbook of Homotopy Theory". We begin by introducing symmetric monoidal stable $\infty$-categories, such as the derived $\infty$-category of a commutative ring, before turning to our main example, the $\infty$-category of spectra. We then go on to consider ring spectra and their $\infty$-categories of modules, as well as basic constructions such as localization, completion, and dualizability. We conclude with a brief account of the cotangent complex and …
Goerss--Hopkins obstruction theory is a powerful tool for constructing structured ring spectra from purely algebraic data. Using the formalism of model $\infty$-categories, we provide a generalization that applies in an arbitrary presentably symmetric monoidal stable $\infty$-category (such as that of equivariant spectra or of motivic spectra).
Let $f:G\to \mathrm{Pic}(R)$ be a map of $E_\infty$-groups, where $\mathrm{Pic}(R)$ denotes the Picard space of an $E_\infty$-ring spectrum $R$. We determine the tensor $X\otimes_R Mf$ of the Thom $E_\infty$-$R$-algebra $Mf$ with a space $X$; when $X$ is the circle, the tensor with $X$ is topological Hochschild homology over $R$. We use the theory of localizations of $\infty$-categories as a technical tool: we contribute to this theory an $\infty$-categorical analogue of Day's reflection theorem about closed symmetric monoidal structures on localizations, and we prove that for a smashing local…
We propose an algorithm to compute the $C^\infty$-ring structure of arbitrary Weil algebra. It allows us to do some analysis with higher infinitesimals numerically and symbolically. To that end, we first give a brief description of the (Forward-mode) automatic differentiation (AD) in terms of $C^\infty$-rings. The notion of a $C^\infty$-ring was introduced by Lawvere and used as the fundamental building block of smooth infinitesimal analysis and synthetic differential geometry. We argue that interpreting AD in terms of $C^\infty$-rings gives us a unifying theoretical framework and modular ways…
This paper is the first in a series in which we offer a new framework for hermitian K-theory in the realm of stable $\infty$-categories. Our perspective yields solutions to a variety of classical problems involving Grothendieck-Witt groups of rings and clarifies the behaviour of these invariants when 2 is not invertible. In this article we lay the foundations of our approach by considering Lurie's notion of a Poincaré $\infty$-category, which permits an abstract counterpart of unimodular forms called Poincaré objects. We analyse the special cases of hyperbolic and metabolic Poincaré objects, a…
We define the notion of a 2-operad relative to an operad, and prove that the 2-associahedra form a 2-operad relative to the associahedra. Using this structure, we define the notions of an $(A_\infty,2)$-category and $(A_\infty,2)$-algebra in spaces and in chain complexes over a ring. Finally, we show that for any continuous map $A \to X$, we can associate an $(A_\infty,2)$-algebra $θ(A \to X)$ in $\textsf{Top}$, which specializes to $θ(\text{pt} \to X) = Ω^2 X$ and $θ(A \to \text{pt}) = ΩA \times ΩA$.
